RockerMike and Rob presents: Monte A. Melnick Ramones Tour Manager Monte A. Melnick on the fights, the insanity, and the passions! The Ramones formed in March of 1974 and broke up in August of 1996 and Monte A. Melnick was a witness to almost every moment of their groundbreaking and influential career. But his connection to the band goes back even further—to junior high school and their Forest Hills neighborhood in Queens. In his wonderful book On The Road With The Ramones (Sanctuary), he details his time with the band, which included traveling with them for most of their 2,263 live shows. Some people have called him “The Fifth Ramone,” which is fitting (though he is uncomfortable with the designation), because there is no one who spent more time or had closer physical proximity to the band then Monte, especially since his job was not limited to days when the band was on tour; it was a fifty-two-week-a-year gig of solving problems and negotiating the oversized and increasingly at odds personalities of the band members, while keeping the Ramones machine moving forward through 22 years of highs and lows, personnel changes, and music business baloney. After speaking with him, I can understand how he was able to last so long in such a challenging position. He's unflappable and modest, with a dedication to the band that is still strong 22 plus years after they played their last show. https://m.facebook.com/monte.a.melnick https://www.instagram.com/montea.melnick/?hl=en https://www.amazon.com/Road-Ramones-Monte-Melnick/dp/1847721036 http://www.classicbands.com/MonteAMelnickInterview.html https://www.blogtalkradio.com/redvelvetmedia/2019/08/02/monte-a-melnick-on-the-road-with-the-ramones-bonus-edition https://g.co/kgs/wxEXBU https://www.sflmusic.com/memory-road-with-monte-a-melnick/ #musicvideo #musicstudio #musiclover #musiclife #musicindustry #musiclovers #musiccover #musician #ramones #musicproducer #musicproduction #musicians #musicislife #musicartist #musicphotography #musicvideos #Music Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ https://app.hashtag.expert/?fpr=roberto-rossi80 https://dc2bfnt-peyeewd4slt50d2x1b.hop.clickbank.net https://8bcded2xph1jdsb8mqp8th3y0n.hop.clickbank.net/?cbpage=nb Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/getting-lumped-up-with-rob-rossi/id1448899708 https://open.spotify.com/show/00ZWLZaYqQlJji1QSoEz7a https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support
Monte A. Melnick traveled all over the world for over 22 years as tour manager (and much more) to the legendary Ramones. Monte could live anywhere, but he stayed in the place where it all began for him and the Ramones, Queens, New York. He has encountered many cultures around the world, perhaps that is why he has remained in Queens--one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States. On Episode 47 of Retire There with Gil & Gene, learn about Monte's ride from the borough to touring the universe and back to Queens.Monte A. Melnick's informative and revealing book on the Ramones is On the Road with the Ramones, BONUS EDITION.
Monte A. Melnick He spent 22 years “On the Road with the Ramones” as the unsung hero of punk rock's hardest working, most influential (and dysfunctional!) band. He's also an author and musician who had a recording contract before “joining” the Ramones. Enjoy the ride as we get in the van with Monte A. Melnick to learn how he kept his sanity for more than two decades as the babysitter for rock's best-dressed, underdog gang of cretins. Created and Produced by Jared Tuten

New York punk trendsetters The Ramones had spent years cranking out influential albums that failed to set the charts on fire, so it was decided they should team with legendary '60s producer Phil Spector to make that elusive hit album that would take them to the top. But like most thing in the world of The Ramones, things didn't quite work out the way they planned. Guns, drugs, affairs, death, mannequins and madness ensued as the band attempted to fuse their style with the work of an esteemed madman. All the while the band was shooting the Roger Corman b-movie Rock 'n' Roll High School and burning the candle at both ends. The result is the misunderstood classic, End of the Century. Penned by On the Road with the Ramones author and Streetwalkin' Cheetahs frontman Frank Meyer, "When the Wall of Sound Met the New York Underground" unearths the most fascinating story in the Ramones saga.Purchase the book through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/When-Wall-Sound-York-Underground-ebook/dp/B008FT4V1C/refSongs Discussed In This Episode: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Oj5bCaV03hWKC3pEP4xjT?si=0a2d67b208294278The Booked On Rock Website: https://www.bookedonrock.comFollow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich:FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/bookedonrockpodcastTWITTER: https://twitter.com/bookedonrockContact The Booked On Rock Podcast:thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.comThe Booked On Rock Theme Song: “Whoosh” by Crowander [ https://freemusicarchive.org/music/crowander]

Hey! Ho! we went. We are joined this week by author, rock n roll logistical master-mind and all round nice chap, Monte A. Melnick. Tour Manager to the Ramones from their inception to the bitter end. Is it possible to write and record an album if two key band members refuse to interact? Could you keep your cool being held hostage by a gun-toting maniac? Have you ever had to navigate through a warzone with a bunch of punk rockers in tow? Probably not, but that’s why Monte was the Ramones’ Tour Manager and you weren’t. We’ve got all this and more as well as Tom’s recollection of being woken up by artillery fire whilst on tour, Niallism’s Friday and Saturday night ritual in the early noughties and additional tunes from Screw 32 and Geoffery OIcott.
This week Jody and Nate are psyched to have Monte A. Melnick on the show. R-A-M-O-N-E-S RAMONES!

I had the great pleasure of speaking with Monte A. Melnick, the former tour manager of the legendary rock band, The Ramones. For over 20 years the Ramones toured the world playing to adoring and loyal audiences; but it is only now, over 20 years after their retirement, that their contributions to music are fully appreciated. Monte was there throughout the duration of their career and brings a unique perspective to what made this band tick through think and thin, good times and bad. It was an honor to talk with Monte about the legacy of this legendary band. Monte has written a classic book about the band and his time with them, and I highly recommend it. The book, On The Road with The Ramones, is a great read and can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Ramones-Monte-Melnick-Frank-Meyer/dp/1606710206/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543688724&sr=8-1&keywords=Melnick+Monte For those who would enjoy seeing a little bit of the Ramones in action and at their best, here's a little clip. 14 songs in 26 minutes! It doesn't get better than that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp3zaeOyL7Q&t=128s And finally, here's a great way to get familiar with their songs - a classic collection of hits. If like me, you prefer to hear actual albums, you can't go wrong with their first or third. But this collection will get you started: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ramones+mania+full+album Thanks again to Monte, and I hope everyone enjoys this episode of So Important!

Tales from the road! Ramones' tour manager Monte A. Melnick has some great stories!
Live From The Barrage
In 1975 John Holmstrom co-founded PUNK magazine with Ged Dunn, JR. It spear-headed the punk movement and was instrumental in the success of Blondie, The Ramones, the Dead Boys and other New York City punk bands. Its hand-lettered graphics inspired many crudely-designed fanzines in its wake, and its feature-length photo comics predated the graphic novels of today. PUNK also created the punk art, a short-lived but long-forgotten movement that inspired the East Village art scene a few years later. John Holmstrom has also drawn posters, t-shirt designs, record, book and CD covers for The Ramones, Blondie, The Dandy Warhols, Murphy's Law, MeatDepressed, The Kowalskis, The Cooties and Mykel Board. He also produced work for Scholastic, the Village Voice, High Times, Heavy Metal, Video Games and many other magazines. In 2000, 25 years after starting it, Holmstrom re-launched PUNK magazine, publishing several new issues, a comic book (Bosko), and in 2013 a book: The Best of PUNK Magazine. He's currently licensing PUNK- and Holmstrom-related images and artwork for clothing everything from baby clothes to high-end fashion-around the world. He also contributed art, graphics and animation to the upcoming CBGB Film, which will be released on October 10th in theaters around the country.*Monte A. Melnick was the Ramones Tour Manager (and much more) throughout their entire 22 year career (1974-1996, 2,263 live shows). His book “On The Road with the Ramones” is an insider's look from the people who were actually there, witnessing and experiencing all the extreme highs and lows of one of rock's greatest bands. The book is packed with interviews from the Ramones and people who where very close to the band. There are over 250 photographs and pictures of memorabilia Monte collected along the way. Monte now works at The New York Hall of Science in Corona Queens New York as their 3D Theater Audio/Visual Supervisor.
