On this episode, Hunter and returning guest Eric Zaldivar put on another edition of Midnight Millennial Cowboys as they probe Glenn Danzig's weirdo vampire western Death Rider in the House of Vampires. Featuring the likes of Devon Sawa, Julian Sands (RIP), Eli Roth, Kim Director, Danny Trejo, and ol' Glenn himself, Death Rider is Glenn's follow up to his...interesting movie Verotika. How does this sophomore effort compare? Listen to find out.

The legendary Paul Ledney of Profanatica makes his long overdue debut on Into The Necrosphere this week. Profanatica has just released their new EP, “Wreathed In Dead Angels” through Hells Headbangers. Paul is also a four decade veteran of extreme and underground music, who has literally seen every trend you can imagine - and was more than happy to share his unique perspective on the evolution of death and black metal, along with discussing a host of other topics. Then it's on to the news rant and this week I'm rounding up the latest singles by Thronum Vrondor, Dark Angel, Baest, Gaahl's Wyrd, Necrophobic, Sodom and others for judgement. I also comment on the recent attempt to cancel Glenn Danzig, Metallica appearing ever-so-smug on the teaser to their latest documentary, and I answer more of your questions. PLUS: a premiere on the sphere courtesy of Australian war metal brigade, Deathorde.
Darren and Sid kick things off by discussing their male pattern baldness. Rob has a problem with the tariffs – namely, how they affect his consumption of sunflower seeds. We spend a good chunk of the show dissecting disgraced Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer's first interview, discussing the events he got caught up in on January 6th, and wouldn't you believe it, it wasn't his fault! Glenn Danzig named his punk band after one of the most cursed Hollywood films of all time. The Misfits was where actor Montgomery Clift, permanently disfigured from a car accident, tried in vain to restart his stalled career. The director, John Huston, lost the film's entire production budget at a craps table. The lead actor, Clark Gable, suffered a heart attack the day after shooting ended and died ten days later. But was there any truth to the rumor that Gable was driven to an early grave not because of a grueling shoot or poor health, but by his demanding co-star, Marilyn Monroe?

In August 1979, punk rock history was made when Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only of The Misfits were arrested at the iconic Chelsea Hotel in New York City. The chaos unfolded in Room 513, where the punk legends reportedly trashed the room in a wild scene that still echoes through the annals of rock and roll infamy. A HardLore Investigative Special… In this incredibly special deep dive, we sit down with an important name in Misfits history: Tom Bejgrowicz, formerly of Caroline Records. When the band sued Danzig for nearly 20 years of back payment for performance royalties, Caroline Records stepped into the foot the bill… in exchange for owning the entire Misfits discography. Enter then lower level Caroline employee Tom Bejgrowicz, who's intimate knowledge and passion for The Misfits landed him the nearly impossible task of creating the formal releases for the Misfits' intended debut LP “Static Age”, their legendary discography Coffin Boxset, and eventually their even more legendary lost 2nd LP, “12 Hits From Hell”… Which was cancelled right before its official release. We were lucky enough to have Tom personally tell us the incredible story of why the band came together to stop “12 Hits” from officially releasing.. Enjoy. The Misfits were truly unique. Scary. Violent. Angry. Nihilistic. These words can easily describe not only their music, but also the band as people, particularly frontman Glenn Danzig. Rumored to have been arrested for grave robbery, locked up abroad and inciting riots here in the States, the Misfits blazed a path of annihilation trading on fictional B-movie and scandal rag imagery to create one of the most enduring cult followings of all time and combating the very real sense of alienation that fueled Danzig's creativity and violent behavior. BLOODSONG RETURNS AGAIN WITH GLUB! What is Glub? It is a song in the style of the Misfits Cough/Cool era band. Tune in and groove on! Check out Bloodsong HERE - https://bloodsongofficial.bandcamp.com/ https://imisanthropeofficial.bandcamp.com "Cough/Cool" is the first single released by the horror punk band the Misfits. It was released in August 1977 on singer Glenn Danzig's label Blank Records. 500 copies were produced on black 7" vinyl. Both songs from the single were re-recorded and re-released in various versions over the following twenty years. The Misfits had formed in February 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey, with a lineup including Danzig (who also played electric piano), bassist Jerry Only, and drummer Manny Martínez. the band was without a guitar player for six months. Danzig therefore used his electric piano to fill out the rhythm on the two songs "Cough/Cool" and "She", which were recorded in June 1977 at the Rainbow Studio and mastered at Spectrum Sound in Brooklyn, New York, by Rich Flores. By the time of the single's release in August 1977 the band had added First guitarist Franché Coma and Danzig phased out the piano in favor of singing exclusively. Caiafa's surname was misspelled on the single's sleeve as "Caifa",[1] leading him to insist that from then on he be credited as "Jerry, only Jerry". "Jerry Only" soon became his pseudonym, which he has continued to use throughout the rest of his career. The subject of the song "She" is not mentioned in the lyrics, but Misfits associate Eerie Von noted in The Misfits box set in 1996 that the song was about Patty Hearst. The lyrics reference Hearst's participation in a San Francisco bank robbery in 1974: "She walked out with empty arms, machine gun in her hand/She is good and she is bad, no one understands/She walked in in silence, never spoke a word/She's got a rich daddy, she's her daddy's girl". "Cough/Cool" and "She" were re-recorded and re-released in several versions in subsequent years. "She" was re-recorded in January 1978, with guitar in place of the electric piano, for the Static Age album. The album was not released in its intended form for 20 years, though many of its songs saw release in various versions over the years. "She" had been one of three songs from the sessions that were never mixed, however, and so this version was not released until 1997, when Static Age was finally issued in its entirety. A third version of "She" was released in 1985 on the compilation album Legacy of Brutality, with overdubbed guitar and bass tracks by Danzig. This version was reissued on Misfits the following year. A new version of "Cough/Cool" appeared on Collection II in 1995; this version was recorded in 1987 by Danzig and former Misfits photographer Eerie Von . Danzig used the drum track from the original recording, but Danzig overdubbed guitar and drum machine tracks and new vocals. Ten years later, the greatest love story every told is back. Featuring an extensive interview with Tom Neely and Justin Hall, we take a deep look at "punk rock Bert and Ernie" where our anti-heroes celebrate toxic masculinity in full color for the first time. Is that Stephen King performing a pet funeral? Is that a joke about Lemmy? How many comic sight gags can you spot in 32 pages? Justin takes a deep look at how his comic students don't know who Henry Rollins or Glenn Danzig are but can appreciate the book's queer themes and social commentary.

Let's rewind to 1988. Metal underwent a massive transformation, with flashy glam metal and its catchy hooks coexisting alongside darker, more intense sounds on MTV's Headbangers Ball. Enter Glenn Danzig, fresh from his work with Misfits and Samhain, who was about to turn the metal world on its head with his new project. This shift was catalyzed by the involvement of legendary producer Rick Rubin, who signed Danzig to his label, Def American Recordings. Rubin, known for his work with diverse acts from Slayer to the Beastie Boys, recognized the unique potential in Danzig's vision. Released in 1988, Danzig's self-titled album brought a brooding, blues-infused metal sound unlike anything else. Recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios in New York City, the album blended raw power and dark, occult themes, setting a new standard for the genre.

On this edition of Parallax Views, we delve into the controversial world of deathmatch wrestling with deathmatch wrestler Mike Krueger. For those unfamiliar with deathmatch wrestling, it is by far the most extreme variant of professional wrestling imaginable. When watching a deathmatch promotion like Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), Xtreme Pro Wrestling (XPW), Underground Empire Wrestling (UEW), or any number of others similar promotions you can expect to see things that you'd never see in a mainstream pro wrestling promotion like WWE. This includes wrestler diving off balconies into glass, wrestler being thrown into flaming tables, and competitors using objects like light tubes and barbed wire bats as weapons. It is, in other words, the "outlaw" form of pro wrestling that is often heavily criticized for it's blood-n-guts gruesomeness. And yet, deathmatch wrestling has cultivated a rather diverse audience. On one hand there's the "anti-woke" fans of Rob Black's notorious XPW. On the other there's Game Changer Wrestling, which has become popular especially with some in the LGBTQ+ community for its inclusiveness. Additionally, despite its violence, deathmatch wrestling also has some famous fans. The Muslim gonzo punk novelist Michael Muhammad Knight, for example, is on record as being a fan of legendary deathmatch wrestler Necro Butcher. And then there's the RackaRacka Brothers aka Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, known for directing last year's A24-distributed sleeper horror hit Talk to Me, who are not only making a documentary on deathmatch wrestling, but have actually participated in deathmatches. And they aren't the only celebrities who have been involved in deathmatch wrestling. Actor David Arquette, known for the Scream movies (as well as his infamous stint in mainstream wrestling as the short-lived World Heavyweight champion of WCW), did a deathmatch with one of the genre's biggest names: Nick Gage. Additionally, rock stars like Glenn Danzig, Korn's Jonathan Davis, Slayer's Kerry King, and former Danzig bassist Josh Lazie as well as rap duo the Insane Clown Posse made appearances or were involved with XPW in the late 90s/early 2000s. The deathmatch performance art shows of New York's Casanova Valentine have gained the attention of punk rock and urban hipster youths at bars. And VICE has tackled the topic in multiple documentaries, most notably in in season 3 of the popular TV show Dark Side of the Ring's "The Ultra-Violence of Nick Gage" episode. Violent as it may be, deathmatch wrestling is, against seemingly all odds, arguably breaking through to the mainstream. The widely listened to Joe Rogan Experience podcast devoting an entire segment to the subject with the aforementioned Phillippou Bros. should attest to that fact. What is the appeal of deathmatch wrestling though? Is there more to it than the elements of ultra-violence? And what is it like being a deathmatch wrestler? Mike Krueger will help answers those questions and more. We'll discuss a number of topics including: - The punk rock nature of deathmatch wrestling - The connection between deathmatch wrestlers and the smaller, more intimate audiences they perform for - The Mount Rushmore of death match wrestling - The trendiness of deathmatch wrestling in the past few years - What drives deathmatch wrestlers? - The dangerous nature of deathmatch wrestling and the fact that the damage the wrestlers' bodies take in deathmatches can't be fact even if the results are predetermined - Trauma, psychological issues, and deathmatch wrestlers - The psychology of deathmatch wrestling - Old school deathmatch wrestling from Japan: Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling (FMW) and their infamous barbed wire exploding death match between Terry Funk and Atsushi Onita - Storytelling in deathmatch wrestling - The wear and tear Mike's body has endured from deathmatch wrestling - The cut-throat nature of the independent wrestling scene; backstabbing in the scene; promoters that don't pay the talent - The story of Mike getting hit multiple times with a weed whacker in a match - The role of muscle memory in pro wrestling - How do deathmatch wrestlers protect themselves when being hit by glass or lighttubes? - Has deathmatch wrestling gotten too violent since the time it began? How has the deathmatch wrestling scene changed since Mike got involved in it? - Mike Krueger's background in amateur wrestling and answering the question of how many deathmatch wrestlers are properly trained - Why Mike quit pro wrestling and why he more recently made a comeback - Deathmatch wrestling and how its violence combined with the type of wrestlers it attracts makes people question the "is this fake?" question more so than other forms of wrestling? How wrestlers like the late New Jack made people believe that they may be watching a "shoot" (a real fight) - The craziest thing Mike has ever seen in a deathmatch - The falls from high heights that deathmatch wrestlers take onto tables, concrete, etc. - The So Cal deathmatch wrestling scenes and the late deathmatch wrestler Supreme - What is "heat" in pro wrestling and how to get it in a match; how Mike has to get heat in a match without talking - What's it like working matches with barbed wire; Mike talks about preparing for his first ever no-ropes barbed wire match (the ropes are barbed wire); taking hits from glass vs. barbed wire; the worst part of barbed wire matches - The adrenaline rush the wrestlers get during a match and how the pain often sets in after the match is over rather than during - How time flows differently for a wrestler during a match - Feeding off the energy fans and the audiences during a match - And much, much more!
The Misfits lead singer Jerry Only had quite an adventure wrestling for WCW. Hear details of his infamous cage match with Dr. Death, the role Vampiro played in Jerry's pro-wrestling career, and how WCW almost broke up The Misfits! Plus, Jerry's talking about how The Misfits formed, what it was like working with Glenn Danzig & why Glenn ultimately left the band.
