American drummer
POPULARITY
Ronnie SimmonsHe's played guitar with Rose Tattoo, Faster Pussycat and Richie Ramone – which automatically triples his cool factor (although he's too modest to say so himself). Ronnie Simmons joins us from Australia to discuss his latest band, Ronnie Simmons and the Redback Spiders, lessons learned from Angry Anderson, Taime Downe and Richie Ramone, plus jamming with Slash and falling in love with America.Created and Produced by Jared Tuten
Guitarist Ronnie Simmons has spread his talents far and wide over the span of his playing career, travelling as far away as LA to play with Faster Pussycat and Richie Ramone before settling on a permanent gig with Australian rock royalty Angry Anderson and Rose Tattoo. While travelling the world doing the thing you love may seem like the pinnacle of musical achievement, Simmons had one more peak to conquer.Fronting his own band. And what better way to launch into that next phase of your career than to record a collection of tunes, utilising the help of former bandmates and good friends to herald your arrival?Rather than jumping the gun with a product that has obvious potential but nothing by which to test that mettle, Simmons decided to commit a bunch of tracks to disk for future release before making his Australian assault, recording what would become his debut EP Bite! Part 1 at One More Time Recording in Los Angeles with the backing of Richie Ramone (The Ramones) and the late Chris Moye on drums, Johnny Martin (LA Guns) on bass, backing vocals by Danny Nordahl (Faster Pussycat) and Scott Churilla (Reverend Horton Heat). With this assortment of punk-fuelled rock numbers safely recorded, Simmons returned to Australia to start gigging with his new band Ronnie Simmons & The Redback Spiders, confident in the knowledge he had a viable product to sell. With the EP set for release on November 22, HEAVY sat down with Simmons for a chat about the new band plus anything else that seemed relevant."I'm excited," he enthused when we asked how the nerves were. "I was listening over the masters this morning and I'm really psyched to release this into the world."We point out that Ronnie is used to releasing music with other bands, but with this being his first out the front of a project, the pressure is on possibly more than usual."Yeah, this is the first time in a long, long time I'm out the front doing my own thing," he affirmed. "It's a very new experience for me, putting myself out there like that. A lot of these songs are straight from the heart, so it's very different to slotting into an already existing band. I'm enjoying it. It's a lot to think about, and it's a new experience, but I think I've got enough gigs and experience under my belt to give it a solid crack (laughs)."In the full interview, we discussed Bite! Part 1, with Ronnie explaining the sound is a mix of his various musical influences, including punk, ska, and rock. We spoke about the two singles released so far and how they represent the EP, as well as the decision to record in LA. He ran through his musical journey from LA back to Australia and the advantage of playing in bands of differing styles and genres.Talk turned to the band's upcoming run of shows, with Ronnie telling us what to expect from the band live and who is in the outfit full time plus more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Interview by Angela CroudaceRonnie Simmons talks about his new release with the Red Back Spiders and stories from his time with Rose Tattoo and beyond. We sat down with Ronnie Simmons, guitarist from Rose Tattoo, to talk about the latest release from his band, Ronnie Simmons and the Redback Spiders. The single Alone With You was released in true rockstar fashion atop a boat in the middle of Sydney Harbour! But if you thought a tiny bit of bone-chilling 40km winds would mess everything up, you'd be very wrong. Ronnie talks about everything from tour stories featuring Richie Ramone to his adoration for fellow bandmate Angry Anderson. Ronnie also gives some solid advice to aspiring musicians.Ronnie has toured with an array of artists that he grew up listening to that influenced the sound of Ronnie Simmons and the Redback Spiders: “I'm very fortunate that my resume now reflects my record collection, like the Ramones, Rose Tattoo, Faster Pussycat: they were all really big influences for me when I was starting out.”Check out the full interview below.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
CJ Ramone aka Christopher Joseph Ward's ALLEGED legal testimony has entered the broiling Ramones estate feud between Linda Ramone and Mickey Leigh. If real, it paints a damning, weighted picture of Joey's relationship with his brother. I am so very curious to hear what Marky Ramone might have to say about all of this. www.frumess.com FRUMESS is POWERED by www.riotstickers.com/frumess JOIN THE PATREON FOR LESS THAN A $2 CUP OF COFFEE!! https://www.patreon.com/Frumess

On this spooky season edition of Parallax Views, we've got not one but two conversations to get you ready for Halloween! First, up Jason Brooks joins us to discuss the new Friday the fan film he's directed, wrote, and starred in called Friday the 13th Vengeance Part 2: Bloodlines. the first Friday the 13th Vengeance was a huge hit with fans of the Jason Voorhees saga and with it's professional-look, use of alumni from the Friday the 13th franchise, and feature-length running time was often spoken about as being "more than a fan film" when it came out. The sequel ups the ante further by featuring Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers's Tamara Glynn and Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives's Darcy Demoss and fan favorite Thom Matthews reprising their roles as Nikki and the Jason's heroic arch-nemesis Tommy Jarvis. Also returning are Friday the 13th Part 6's C.J. Graham (who played Jason in Part 6), as Jason's father Elias Voorhees, and Tom McLoughlin, the writer and director of Part 6, as the new character Gravekeeper Walt. Both Vengeance Pt. 2 and its predecessor features a massive amount of gory carnage candy for fans of the series as well as some surprises along the way, including an appearance from The Ramones' Richie Ramone as a punk rocker! In this short but sweet conversation Jason and I discuss: - The origins of Friday the 13th Vengeance and how it started as an entirely different film called Friday the 13th: Mythos; the love and passion that went into Vengeance and how it became known as "More Than Just a Fan Film" thanks to the effort of Friday the 13th Part II's Steve Dash (who appears as the town Sheriff in the fan film; his last film role); the stars of Vengeance including the aforementioned Steve Dash, Friday the 13th Part 6's C.J. Graham, Diana Prince (aka Darcy the Mail Girl of Joe Bob Briggs' Last Drive-In fame on Shudder), and former Penthouse Pet Veronica Ricci among others - The inclusion of Jason Voorhees' father Elias Voorhees in Friday the 13th Vengeance Part 2: Bloodlines and his origins in the Tom McLoughlin's original screenplay for Friday the 13th Part 6 (Elias also appeared in a number of the comic book spin-offs of Friday the 13th) - Talking about the special and make-up effects, kills, gore for the films and involvement of Hollywood/filmmaking professionals from special FX artist Joe Castro to Friday the 13th's original composer Harry Manfredini - What Jason and Co. learned from the experience of making the first Vengeance and how that informed Vengeance Pt. 2 - The shooting schedule and principle photography for Vengeance Pt. 2 and information about its budget - Video technology and the barrier to entry to making a professional-looking fan film - Why Jason and Co. wanted to make a sequel to Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives particularly - And much, much more! In the second half of the program, an old TV horror anthology has resurfaced after years of languishing in the tape trading underground of horror fanatics. Once only available in the form of poor quality bootlegs, Freddy's Nightmares is the forgotten Nightmare on Elm Street TV series that has recently experienced new life (and better quality) on the free (with ads) streaming service known as Tubi. Done in the style of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, the show featured Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund of the film series) hosting bizarre and gruesome stories about his stomping grounds of Spirngwood, Ohio. Some of the episodes feature Freddy within the story while most only feature him in host segment. One particularly notorious episode, the pilot "No More Mr. Nice Guy", was directed by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Tobe Hooper and acted as an origin story for Freddy Krueger and prequel to Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street. With the series getting more attention thanks to it's being hosted on Tubi now, indie filmmaker Henrique Couto and David Denoyer have started a podcast in which they discuss each episode entitled Welcome to Primetime: A Freddy's Nightmares Retrospective. Henrique and David joins us to discuss not only Freddy's Nightmares but also the Freddy-mania of the 1980s, J.G.'s first experience with Freddy Krueger as a child vis-a-vis an unrewound Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (notorious for its homosexual subtext), the before-they-were-stars appearances of actors and actresses like Brad Pitt and Tank Girl's Lori Petty in Freddy's Nightmares, the origin of Freddy's Nightmares, the subversive themes of the NOES franchise, Re-Animator's Jeffrey Combs appearance in Freddy's Nightmares, the idea of elevated horror, thoughts on David Gordon Green's divisive Halloween Ends, how technology (cameras, lighting equipment, etc.) has allowed for a lower barrier to entry for aspiring filmmakers, Henrique's new anthology series Found Footage, the importance of learning craft in filmmaking, the weird dream sequences in Freddy's Nightmares, whether we'll ever see a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie, the FREDDY's TRICKS & TREATS episode of FREDDY's NIGHTMARES featuring a sleazy striptease from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Mariska Hargitay, and much, much more!
Tommy Ramone talks about producing the Ramones and the Replacements in this interview from 2005 for Tape Op magazine. Along the way, we will look at how Tommy was the Ramones secret weapon all along. Without him, Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, Marky Ramone, CJ Ramone, and Richie Ramone would not have the punk rock onslaught that would deeply affect all alternative music that would come after it. Your host Tom Austin-Morgan is back to let you know what's been going on since the last episode and what you can expect from the next one... or possibly two! There's also all the news from the world of punk including stories about KRS-One, Steve Ignorant, Alice Bag, Richie Ramone, Loose Articles, Sick Of It All, Blondie and The Damned, Bauhaus, Shane MacGowan, The Sewer Cats, John Doe, MC5, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Weezer, The Last Gang, The Lunachicks, The Gaslight Anthem and Roxy Music. There's also a load of acts that have cancelled their gigs in Ukraine and Russia due to the continuing war there and, sadly, there have been a number of deaths as well. Additionally, there are reviews of three albums: Love Sux by Avril Lavigne (Is she cynically going back to pop punk from her more recent acoustic pop sound due to the resugence of early-2000s pop punk?), Torpedo by Feeder (have they finally gone back to the heavy grunge of their early albums like they keep saying they will?) and Never Let Me Go by Placebo (is this their best album since The Meds?). By sure to get in touch on social media or email and do to Apple Music to leave a rating and review, it's the podcast's second birthday, after all! Until next time, take care and stay safe. In this episode, I am talking with Victoria Smith about the feelings The Ramonas had about doing their first originals album, overcoming the fear of getting it wrong, going back to the drawing board and how to keep creative.Vicky is a bass guitar maestro of punk rock and the blues, who has worked with Charlie Harper, Dani Wilde, Richie Ramone, Cockwomble and, of course, one of my faves The Ramonas. She is a songwriter and vocalist as well as bass guitar teacher and artist. She is a fantastic and ferocious live performer and feeds the crowd with her energy (and many bass faces). She's even let me carry her equipment.Oh, and she can jump like Dee Dee better than me.I Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is a music podcast that does music interviews differently. I'm Giles Sibbald and I'm talking to extraordinary musicians, DJ's and producers about how they use an experimental mindset in their lives to amplify their own creativity, pursue new challenges, overcome fears and bounce back from mistakes.- brought to you by Hey Sunday, the mothership of the experimental mindset™.Podcast logo and art by Tide Adesanya, Coppie and Paste
