Joseph Arthur's has worked hard, evolved and shares the value he's found in forgiveness. Joseph Arthur is a well known and respected musician. Joseph grew up in Dayton, Ohio, the son of a lawyer father and insurance salesman mother. It seems as if Joseph had a lot of conflict with his parents, but has some thoughtful things to say about forgiveness. He is someone who works hard on himself, physically, emotionally and spiritually. His creative work is instinctual whether it's songwriting, music,, poetry or visual art. Joseph Arthur started working in high school with a band of guys all older than him, 5 nights a week making a good living so he never went to college or even needing to look for a side job. An outspoken voice about his opinions about vaccines during the pandemic, along with the birth of his daughter around the same time, affected his career and recharged it. His opportunity to revisit his career and opened a lot of new doors and he's now enjoying life now more than ever. https://josepharthur.com/ #josepharthur @joseph_arthur Song/Video RISE Current Tour
I recently sat down with Joseph Arthur — Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, painter, poet, and one of the first artists signed to Peter Gabriel's Real World Records — for what is, without a doubt, one of the most profound conversations I've had on Creative Mood.Over a career spanning more than two decades, Joseph Arthur has released over twenty critically acclaimed albums, earned a Grammy nomination for his work with Peter Gabriel, and collaborated with some of the most respected artists in music, including Ben Harper, Peter Buck of R.E.M., Dhani Harrison, and Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam. An early favorite of Brian Eno, who helped launch his career on Real World Records, Joseph has continued to forge deep artistic connections — including a lasting creative relationship with Gabriel — building a body of work that pulses with raw humanity, unfiltered emotion, and an undeniable spiritual force.Introduced years ago to his music through the unforgettable « Honey and the Moon, » I always sensed there was a rare spirit behind the songs — fearless, unfiltered, and deeply alive. When our mutual friend Amélie Chopinet — who booked his current tour — put us in touch, I knew this would be a special meeting.Joseph is, by far, the most soulful and accomplished musician I've had the honor of welcoming to the podcast — a potent blend of artistic mastery, raw honesty, and spiritual depth. In the first half of our conversation, we explore the spiritual and emotional landscape that defines where he stands today: forgiveness, overcoming public and personal trials, dismantling the ego, aging, and finding meaning beyond survival. Joseph opens up with striking vulnerability about being, as he says, "canceled," and the grace and inner work it took to move beyond it without bitterness — with a deeper faith in himself. The second half dives into his music — past, present, and future — including an intimate look at his creative process, his approach to live music and the relentless drive that keeps his art flourishing. This episode is a tribute to the beauty of endurance, truth, and the indestructible fire of real artists. On a more personal note, I have to say: this meeting was a major moment for me — both as an artist and on a human level. Having an artist of Joseph's caliber on Creative Mood is a huge validation for what I'm building with this podcast. But beyond that, the timing felt almost fated. So much of what Joseph shared — spiritually, emotionally, and artistically — resonated deeply with where I am in my own life right now. Our conversation touched on the very struggles, questions, and transformations I'm currently living through, making this exchange feel all the more meaningful and alive.Thank you Joseph for making the time. For everything Joseph Arthur
