A Vulcan Mind Meld with Tara Rosling Tara Rosling joins Trek Untold this week to discuss her time on seasons 3 and 4 of "Star Trek: Discovery" and what it's like to be the President of Ni'Var! Tara discusses her origins in acting in Canada and what she learned studying at York University, how she went from waitressing to her first film gig, "Extreme Measures" with Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker, balancing stage work in the theater VS on-screen in TV and film and what type of performing she prefers. From there, we beam into our Trek talk to learn how Tara was cast as President T'rina and how it linked with her playing a repressed Mennonite on "Impulse" along with another character she portrayed elsewhere, her understanding of what a Vulcan is, and how they behave to control their emotions, the method to do a proper Vulcan mind meld, the leadership on and off set with Soneqhua Martin-Green, working with Doug Jones and how the romance between T'Rina and Saru happened, the day Stacey Abrams showed up on set, what it was like to film during the COVID-19 pandemic and how that affected her scenes. Plus, an early role in William Shatner's "Tek War" series, being the voice of Nova on the 90's "Silver Surfer" cartoon, her first time being squibbed on "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" and more! Tread Perilously's annual Star Trek month begins with a look in on Star Trek: Discovery and its fourth season episode "All is Possible." While the threat of the DMA looms, Discovery orbits Ni'Var ahead of the planet's return to the Federation. But as Captain Michael Burnham soon learns, the accord is in jeopardy. Will she be able to maneuver people and assets to save the Federation's most important political negotiation in over a hundred years? Meanwhile, Lt. Tilly helps out Starfleet Academy by taking some trainees on a team-building exercise, but it proves to be more than she expects when their shuttle crash-lands on an ice planet. Erik explains his plan for an all Kurtzman Era Star Trek month. He also blames Bryan Fuller for some of Discovery's shortcomings. Justin reveals this episode broke his appreciation of the series. The lack of detail regarding Burnham's interests and hobbies proves to be a problem. Saru and Tilly continue to be favorite characters while the rest of the crew continue to be unknowable. Book's story is criticized while Tilly's drives Justin to distraction. Ni'Var president T'Rina and Saru, however, still prove charming. The cultural imperialism of the Federation is examined and Erik briefly imagines Dustin Hoffman in Death Wish.

Anthony first appeared as a Romulan spectator on Ni'Var in "Unification, Part 3" and returned in season four to portray ALL the Ferengi characters seen on camera!  Lake explains how his interest in star trek came through horror makeup, scenes left on the cutting room floor from his time on Trek, tips for sitting in the makeup chair, and the different prosthetic processes, hairs, and wardrobes for each character he played. Plus, his unique path into acting and why much of his career involves prosthetics and intense makeup, his first big break on "Defiance," his first dose of prosthetics in "The Strain," becoming Blavglad the Exsanguinator in "What We Do In The Shadows," and the most NSFW thing ever discussed on the show, Anthony's time as the porn version of Jack From Jupiter in "The Boys." What is happening?! Michael and Saru get called down to the surface of Ni'var to help President Rillak close the deal with Ni'Var joining the Federation. Tilly goes to Starfleet academy, with Adira in tow, to run some critical team building exercises. Book sits down for a therapy session with Dr. Culber. I guess it's gonna be a pretty chill episode. Except, Book is really resistant to confronting his trauma no matter what Culber does... and Tilly and the bickering cadets crash land on the wrong moon and are being pursued by giant, predatory crustacean creatures... and the Ni'Var President asks for a last minute amendment to the agreement with Star Fleet that is completely non-negotiable. So, there's that. Here's hoping that the episode's title means all that can be resolved in an hour (cause it seems pretty bad!) When a rogue Qowat Milat sister goes, well, rogue and starts knocking over Starfleet ships delivering dilithium to planets in need (and, incidentally, kills a Starfleet officer in the process), Ni'Var, the Federation, and the Qowat Milat have to team up to hunt her down.   Yes, Michael's mother is the Killer-Romulan-Warrior-Nun representing the order and, yes, Michael's representing the Federation. And yes, Tilly is along for the ride. And–YES–they have to give up their phasers in favor of swords!   Also, Gray Tal is getting his new body and Dr. Stamets and Book head to the Ni'Var Science Institute to get some help analyzing the anomaly that is eating planetary systems.   So swash your buckles as we attempt to unravel all that, well, unravels in this episode of Star Trek: Discovery!   Join our patreon to watch our episodes LIVE-STREAMED, early access to the audio episodes and be part of our monthly Netflix watch parties AND patron shout-outs: http://patreon.com/setphasers

What is this... a 3rd part to a classic TNG Two-Parter!? For this we travel to Ni'Var, or Vulcan if ya' nasty, to... sit in a conference room with the crew of the Discovery? There is a lot to unpack here, about 1000 years worth of lore, and it is mostly glossed over to build up the character of Michael Burnham. The B plot finds Tilly trying to figure out if she is First Officer Material. There is lots to love about this episode, but Michael and Sara bring wit to discuss things like "How do you have a galactic civilization without Warp Travel?", "Would the Romulans be considered refugees?" and of course... "Are the Matrix sequels good!?"

Discovering Trek: A Star Trek Discovery Companion

Discovering Trek listeners, in this episode we see the Vulcans get called out for spying and they REALLY don't like that. So T'Pol is being recalled, without a new gig, soon to be gone forever from the Enterprise crew. Archer being all Archery takes her on one last mission and flies down to Coridan, where things are not so peachy on the political front. This episode, Co-Hosts Sara and Kasey discuss captured crew, quick thinking, a sleepy returning character, plates of grool, a completely insulting scene, fake outs and the return of a beloved actor. You are Ni'Var far from adventure with this crew. So get ready for some blue, pointy, phasery and tension filled happenings in this episode. And seriously, is a little cinnamon in the oatmeal and less sexism too much to ask?
