With the seemingly endless creative possibilities made possible by the rise of GenAI, why does it seem more challenging than ever to be a Design Leader? In this episode, Adaptive Path co-founder, author, and Design Leadership coach Peter Merholz joins us for a beer and a chat to discuss this and many other topics. We discuss his journey from Studio Archetype in the mid-90's to the present day, where he leads his own consultancy, Humanism at Scale. In this role, Peter coaches Design leaders going through the 'liminal phase' of their careers as they adjust to new realities in the marketplace. We further discuss how the shift in focus from 'craft' to 'impact', and understanding how that may require a shift in identity, is one of several keys to ongoing success in this new reality. A very timely and far-reaching discussion...enjoy! Drinks: Mayflower Brewing Company Quahog Republic Golden Ale, Tree House Brewing Company Very Green New England IPA, North Coast Brewing Co. Expend4bles is the epitome of milking an idea dry. It's lazy, visually a mess, and its narrative is almost completely nonsensical. Worse, like the third entry in the series, Expend4bles doesn't seem to grasp what made people interested in its concept in the first place. We lose even more of the action stars we all love and replace them with even less interesting people. Sure, this one returns the R rating, but the blood and carnage are swallowed by the horrific green screen and ludicrous plot. Its greatest offense, though, may be its complete waste of the talents of Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais. If you have two of Asia's great action stars in your movie, then back up and let them make magic. Sly Stallone, who created the franchise and has served as its main star, is so disinterested in the proceedings that he's barely in the movie; when he is, he mostly sits alone in random vehicles. Exend4bles is wholly deserving of its seven Razzie Nominations and complete implosion at the box office. And, yet, I still love it. Damn you, nostalgia! Now, sit back, toast to Barney's memory with a Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale from North Coast Brewing Co., and equip your prescription scope! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Bling Blake, and Capt. Cash are bashing some skulls with the classics at our local watering hole! Welcome to Beerelevant, where Jess and David talk about a random beer that they picked up from the store. There are no experts involved, so just relax and get a review from regular people. We hope everyone is staying safe out there. North Coast Brewery has been kicking for quite a while, and we decided to give them some patronage. You may know Old Rasputin, but this month we tried Brother Thelonious. With quite the past, and a little Monk history, we drink this fantastic beer!

2016 may have sucked, but this year-end episode of Beats, Beards & Brews is all right. Dan and Eric kick things off with a review of the Howling Rain and Black Knight beard oils from Black Rebel Beard Co. out of El Paso. Evan, Eric and Dan then list off their top three albums (plus some extras) that they listened to in 2016 and that may or may not have been reviewed on the podcast. They also put together a super random Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/user/123699728/playlist/5LaPnTQLdYZYKslpMlVw69 Finally, the three brothers from three very different mothers (and fathers), give a toast to their new Russian overlords who may or may not take over the U.S. in 2017 (За твоё здоровье!) and partake in the drinking of Old Rasputin Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing Co. out of Fort Bragg, California. Evan somehow proves to have the most knowledge about Rasputin due to having watched the 1997 animated film Anastasia. But you should probably look to Wikipedia over the skewed cartoon dramatization of this historical figure. Eric, Evan and Dan also give their New Year's resolutions to close out the final podcast of 2016 (which we almost thought Dan sabotaged again, but that's another story we won't get into). Post-Show Fun Fact: Many Russian cities have a strip club called Rasputin. We cannot verify this factoid from Wikipedia, but let us know via Twitter or Instagram if you are able.
