As a House of The Dragon fan I am SO excited that we are joined by the show's stars Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke for this episode! If you are not familiar with the prequel series to Game of Thrones already - where have you been babes - it slays in many ways. There's murder, there's backstabbing, a whole lot of hot people getting up to hot things, and many storylines to get your head around, so it's time to take a trip to Westeros if you haven't already (and you don't even have to have watched Game of Thrones to love the show). At the centre of it all is Princess Rhaenyra played by Emma D'Arcy and her childhood best friend, Allicent Hightower, played by Olivia Cooke who destroy their friendship in the quest for power. If you thought you had had a tough friendship break up, this is NEXT LEVEL. Outside of Westeros you may also already recognise Olivia from the Oscar nominated The Sound of Metal, Me Earl and The Girl, Ready Player One and Apple TV's Slow Horses. And whilst this is Emma's breakout role they were nominated for a Golden Globe for their scene stealing performance. Today as they return to House of The Dragon season two - which is available now on Sky and streaming service NOW - they talk about the moments on the show that had them clutching their pearls, how they are finally finding their power in their roles and the sheer embarrassment of getting smacked in the face (or in Emma's case being spat in the face by a co-star!). What I love most about this episode though is when Emma opens up beautifully about the relief at being able to live their life openly as a non-binary person and just how cute the friendship they have built off screen is. If you love the episode too, get in touch with me via social media @joshsmithhosts - I always love talking to you. Love, Josh x P.S. In this epsidoe you will have heard me talk about my book, ‘Great Chat: Seven Lessons for Better Conversation, Deeper Connections and Improved Wellbeing' which is FINALLY out this week! You can get your copy here https://geni.us/GreatChat and I really hope it inspires you to start using conversation as a self help practice, empowers you to be a better communicator and helps you build the connections you are deserving of. P.P.S. This episode is sponsored by Bicester Village which I am so excited about as it's one of my favourite go-to day trips for great chats and great bonding time with my loved ones. If you need a little retail therapy with a pal, Bicester Village is home to more than 150 fashion and lifestyle boutiques, renowned restaurants and five star service - and we all deserve a bit of five star service don't we?! We have an exciting one to bring you today as we compare Season 1 of House of the Dragon to its novel counterpart, Fire & Blood in its corresponding pages. We are covering the second to last paragraph on Page 350 through the second paragraph on Page 422. While this is not necessarily a spoiler alert since the vast majority of what we talk about from the book is seen on screen, if you haven't read the book and don't want to know how these passages play out on paper, this is your warning. Stay with us as we discuss some of the notable changes that are found between Season 1 and the pages that align in Fire & Blood such as; Ser Criston Cole's relationship with Princess Rhaenyra, Queen Alicent and King Viserys' third son, King Viserys' health condition, Ser Vaemond Velaryon's fate, and Queen Rhaenyra's response to King Aegon II's terms. With Chase & Josh highlighting key differences, providing a numeric grade for Season 1 overall as well as a grade for the affiliated 72 pages in Fire & Blood, and discussing how the portrayal of characters can give a conflicting sense of allegiance, don't miss out! "And with his death, the war of ravens and envoys and marriage pacts came to an end, and the war of fire and blood began in earnest."
Tread Perilously's month of prestige fantasy makes haste for Westeros and the House of the Dragon episode called "The Princess and the Queen." After giving birth to her third child, Princess Rhaenyra faces rumors and accusations about its father. The source of those whispers? Queen Alicent. The situation leads to tension between Rhaenyera and her husband, Prince Laenor, and a situation in the yard while their boys train with Alicent's sons. Meanwhile in Pentos, Daemon and Laena consider an intriguing opportunity from the local aristocrats -- but will Laena's own pregnancy put the kibosh on whatever Daemon truly wants? Also, why is Larys Strong so interested in aiding Alicent? Erik and Justin immediately resume their Ice and Fire nerdery, starting with a look into Game of Thrones's endgame and the other spinoff. Justin champions King Viserys's long, lingering death. Erik once again offers his support to fanfic writers. He also briefly forgets the name of his "favorite" Ice and Fire character. Justin tries to piece together the political situation in King's Landing based on a single episode of House of the Dragon. The architectural design of Harrenhal comes into question. Erik dives into the dynamic between Alicent and Larys Strong and some Star Wars talk happens.
After King Viserys' death, the Small Council plots to install Prince Aegon on the Iron Throne. Ser Criston Cole kills Lord Beesbury when he objects to Princess Rhaenyra being supplanted, while Lord Commander of the Kingsguard Harrold Westerling resigns in protest. Ser Otto delays announcing the king's death to fortify their position and demands nobles give fealty oaths. Queen Alicent, who learns that Otto always intended to install Aegon as king, fails to gain support from Princess Rhaenys, who is held captive in the castle. When Aegon disappears from the Red Keep, Otto has Kingsguards Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk search the city, while Alicent sends Criston and Prince Aemond. Mysaria, the White Worm, informs Otto that Aegon is hiding in the city's sept, but Criston and Aemond apprehend him after a brief fight. After Lord Larys Strong warns Alicent she is being spied upon, including by Tayla, she has Mysaria's house burned. Aegon insists he is unfit to rule, but Alicent convinces him otherwise, quoting his father's dying words. Meanwhile, Erryk smuggles Rhaenys from the castle while Otto has hundreds of common folk herded into the Dragonpit's main hall, announcing Viserys' death and crowning Aegon as king. Amid the commotion, Rhaenys reaches her dragon Meleys, then enters and demolishes the hall; she defiantly confronts the royal usurpers before fleeing on dragonback. Hosted on Acast. #houseofthedragon After a six-year time jump, the story starts to shift as we get closer to the Dance of the Dragons. With Lord Corlys suffering a life-threatening injury, his brother Vaemond sails for Kings Landing to challenge the succession of its seat. Princess Rhaenyra returns home to defend her son's legitimacy and status as heir to Driftmark, and finds her home completely different from when she left. The Hightowers all but rule the Seven Kingdoms as King Viserys' health has worsened. Rhaenyra pleads with her father to stand up and defend her. Viserys makes it known that he is still the King, and his word is law. The Targaryens and Hightowers make peace with each other for the King's sake, but that peace is short-lived. Queen Alicent's misinterpretation of the King's words will have dire consequences for the realm. King Viserys finds peace. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/fandomhybridpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fandomhybridpodcast/support

After last week's hard-hitting (heh) wedding episode we've jumped ahead in time by 10 years this week on House of the Dragon, to see that Princess Rhaenyra has just given birth to her third child, albeit of questionable parentage -- and that tensions are high surrounding the line of succession. On this episode, Petra and Vanessa discuss the gathering storm of Alicent's maneuverings, Viserys' ill health, Rhaenyra's children, Harwin Strong's untimely death (RIP to our favorite himbo), and more.

#houseofthedragon Trying to fulfill her duty to the Realm, Princess Rhaenyra embarks on a "courtship tour", where the most eligible bachelors in Westeros compete for her affections. Her homecoming coincides with the return of Prince Daemon, whose presence grows more chaotic - especially when he decides to introduce his niece to the ways of the world outside of the castle walls. Princess Rhaenyra takes control over her life and her fate, and her actions have both positive and negative effects in the lives of several members of the royal household. King Viserys issues an ultimatum to the Princess regarding her marital status, and she issues a challenge of her own. The King is forced to cut ties with someone close when he realizes he can no longer trust their judgement. James and Ender discuss the pilot episode The Heirs of the Dragon HBO's new Original series House of the Dragon. Overview: With both his sons dead and the succession undecided, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen convenes a Great Council for the Westerosi lords to select a future ruler. Jaehaerys' eldest grandson, Prince Viserys, is chosen over his eldest grandchild, Princess Rhaenys. Nine years into his reign, Viserys organizes a tournament to celebrate Queen Aemma Arryn's pregnancy, confident she will give birth to a male heir. The Small Council disregards Master of Ships Lord Corlys Velaryon's warning that the Triarchy, an alliance of Essos' Free Cities, threatens to cripple Westerosi shipping lanes. Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, criticizes Viserys's brother and heir, Prince Daemon, for his brutality as the City Watch commander. At the tournament, Ser Criston Cole, a common-born Dornish knight, outcompetes Daemon, while Aemma dies in childbirth, her son, Baelon, dying shortly after. Viserys refuses the council's pleas to anoint a new heir until Ser Otto reveals that Daemon mockingly styled Baelon as, "The Heir for a Day." Outraged, Viserys banishes Daemon from King's Landing and anoints his only living child, Princess Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne. Episode Director: Miguel Sapochnik Episode Writter: Ryan Condal

Welcome to WATCH DEM THRONES by Black With No Chaser. The series starts off 172 years BEFORE Daenerys and 9 years after the death of King Jaehaerys. Fast forward several years and King Viserys I is now having a succession crisis of his own. The king was blessed with his daughter Princess Rhaenyra, but tragedy hit his family hard. King Viserys I's wife, Queen Aemma Arryn, suffered through multiple stillborns and miscarriages, leaving the king with no male heir and only a daughter. He then names Rhaenyra as his eventual successor....AND SO BEGINS THE DANCE OF THE DRAGON...
It's finally here!! After over 3 years since Game of Thrones came to a most disappointing end, the pilot for House of the Dragon has aired with an amazing and unforgettable pilot that leaves its viewers with a lot to process. Beware, there there will be spoilers beyond this point... It is safe to say that there is a lot to talk about including the horrible and brutal death of Queen Aemma Arryn and how it is a product of the patriarchy of the Seven Kingdoms, the trauma it causes the, until now, ignored Princess Rhaenyra, the violence of Westeros, and of course the introduction of the most notorious Rogue Prince, Daemon Targaryen. That and much more in this episode of Back Into Thrones.
