GET YOUR MULTIVERSE NEWS MERCH HERE:https://multiverse-news-shop.fourthwall.com/In a peek behind the curtain, James Gunn shared with Rolling Stone this week that the Milly Alcock-lead film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will now just be called Supergirl. This is similar to July's Superman, which started out with the title Superman: Legacy. Gunn shared that he and his team do what he calls “premortems,” where they attempt to suss out issues with projects prior to release rather than reacting on the back end. The shortening of titles has come out of those discussions. In the same article, Gunn got candid about the state of Batman in the DCU and the complexities of navigating the character with Matt Reeves' adaptation in consideration or making it his own. Lastly, Gunn announced today that actor Tom Rhys Harries will play Basil Karlo/Clayface in the film set to be released in September 2026.Live action remakes continue to rule at the box office, with this weekend's How to Train Your Dragon capturing the top spot opening to a global $197 million. A24's romantic comedy Materialists starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, opened to a modest $11 million domestically, but goes down in studio history as A24's third highest debut at the box office. Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break's Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television. Here's the format of the show:The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, & Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including HBO's The Last of Us, Disney Plus's Andor, Max's Hacks, and Apple TV Plus's The Studio.Newsbreak – This month, they breakdown a busy month of news out of TV's Upfronts, with a special focus on the decline of scripted TV and the rising prominence of sports in this year's presentations.Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, & Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. Josh and Bill both went with Netflix thanks all the news they dropped out of this month's TUDUM event, along with the news they swapped out Cocomelon for Sesame Street.Meanwhile, Alex capes up for the newly rebranded HBO Max, thanks to the high quality and virality of their big series The Last of Us, Hacks, and The Rehearsal, the NBA playoffs, the Superman film library, and their recent decision to cull much of Discovery's library from their service.New Series Spotlight – This month we are shining the spotlight on Netflix's Sirens. This series stars The White Lotus' Meghann Fahy and House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as estranged sisters unexpectedly reunited on the eve of Alcock's boss's big Labor Day Weekend Gala. Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, Josh Segarra, Glenn Howerton, and Bill Camp also star. The series was created by Molly Smith Metzler, and is an adaptation of her 2011 play Elemeno Pea.
Sirens, starring Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, and Julianne Moore, has been one of the most-watched TV shows in Australia for the past week, so now it’s time for a brutally honest (and very emotional) review. From where the story began, how it was adapted for Netflix, and what the cast really went through bringing this story to life on screen (let's just say the main actress lost some toe nails) we’re here to talk through all the behind the scenes stories that will change the way you see Sirens. We also need to talk about those glaring plot holes in the series, the unexpected scene that gave us chills, Kevin Bacon's villain story, and then unpack exactly what happened in that surprise finale scene, along with why the show needs to come back for a second season. Come hither into our watery lair... we three witchy mermaids want to drag you into our content cave... hehe. Happy Friday. This week on the podcast, at 12:51, we travel to the fictional island of Port Haven, where Julianne Moore swans around in floaty Grecian gowns, rehabilitates birds of prey, and presides over her billionaire husband's palatial home. Meghann Fahy plays Devon, who starts the series coming out of jail and caring for her dad who has dementia. She reaches out in desperation to her younger sister Simone, played by Milly Alcock, and gets no reply. But she does get a fruit basket. She furiously travels down to confront Simone and unexpectedly breaks into her new world, where her younger sister is the personal assistant, really the emotional support assistant to Michaela, the aforementioned ultra-rich wife. Is this just another attempt to ride the coattails of White Lotus' success? Or something different?Next up, at 34.52 we turn to one of the most unexpected rumoured romances of… potentially the century? That's right, it's Jojo Siwa + Chris Hughes. The Dance Moms & Love Island alumni have been setting tongues wagging since they appeared together on celebrity big brother.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[Editor's Note: We experienced some technical difficulties with the audio of this episode. Our apologies, and thank you for your understanding!]Meghann Fahy's been thriving on screen for quite some time now. She was in over 80 episodes of One Life to Live as Hannah O'Connor and starred in the hit Freeform series The Bold Type which ran for five seasons. But, there's no denying that The White Lotus was a different kind of game-changer. Not only did Mike White's HBO series continue to be a pop culture sensation in its second season, but the quality of the new episodes earned nine members of the ensemble Emmy nominations, including Fahy.Since that Emmy nomination? Fahy's downright soaring. She had a role in the 2024 genre mash-up gem Your Monster starring a Collider Ladies Night favorite, Melissa Barrera. She was in The Perfect Couple with Nicole Kidman, she was in Rebuilding with Josh O'Connor which earned high praise at Sundance, and is also in Molly Smith Metzler's highly anticipated Netflix series Sirens with Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock. All very exciting achievements, but there's something extra special about the movie Fahy has hitting theaters on April 11. Christopher Landon's Drop marks the very first time Fahy is #1 on the call sheet for a feature film. She headlines as Violent, a widowed mother reluctantly going on her first date in years. While dining in an upscale restaurant with her dating app match, Brandon Sklenar's Henry, Violet starts getting a string of unusual and alarming anonymous drops to her phone. Is it her date? Is it another diner? Or perhaps it's an employee at the restaurant. Violet doesn't know and she'll have to figure it out on her own because the assailant is watching and they insist she tell no one - or else.Drop rocks a sharp script and the much-needed skilled mind and eye to execute it in Landon, but the success of the film heavily depends on Fahy's ability to deftly navigate the production challenges that come with such a concept while also ensuring the viewer can feel the threat Violet's under, and she excels tackling both - big time. While celebrating Drop's World Premiere screening at SXSW, Fahy visited the Collider Media Studio at the Cinema Center for a Collider Ladies Night interview to go back to the beginning and recap her journey to landing at the top of the call sheet. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes The topic of Captain America reshoots is one we've discussed a lot and recently Cap himself Anthony Mackie addressed reshoot and poor test screening rumors head on, telling Empire “It wasn't retooled at all, every Marvel movie I've done has done reshoots, so it's not retooling or remaking. You basically get the movie and the story you want, you edit it together, then go back and shoot a few more scenes." Since last week, The Hollywood Reporter has also finally revealed that the total budget of the film is significantly less than previously thought - coming in at around $180 million dollars. Switching to the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Benedict Cumberbatch made some headlines after revealing in an interview with Variety that Doctor Strange will not be in Avengers: Doomsday. Cumberbatch cited the reason being Strange's character “not aligning with this part of the story,” and also let loose that the Master of the Mystic Arts will be in “a lot” of Avengers: Secret Wars. In typical James Gunn fashion, the director and DC Studios co-chair gave us a first look at Milly Alcock's Supergirl in a still photo he released on social media last week. The post also confirmed filming recently began. The weekend's NFL division championships provided space for a new-ish Superman trailer, with mostly the same footage, but a different look at Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luther. And in our final DC news nugget, actor Ulrich Thomson was cast as villain Sinestro for the upcoming Lanterns series. Thomsen is a Danish actor who was seen in The Blacklist here in the states. In comics, Sinestro is Hal Jordan's mentor. The Oscar nominations were unveiled last week after a brief delay caused by the devastating and ongoing fires in California. Leading the pack this year is Emilia Pérez, earning an impressive 13 nominations despite ongoing controversy surrounding the film's portrayal of cultural identity, which has sparked heated debates online. Close behind are The Brutalist and Wicked, tied with 10 nominations each and A Complete Unknown and Conclave earned eight nods apiece. On the studio front, Netflix emerged as the frontrunner with 16 total nominations, followed by A24 with 14, Universal with 13, Focus Features with 12, and Searchlight with 10. However, the announcement wasn't without its surprises—or disappointments—as some fan-favorite films, including Challengers, Furiosa, and Civil War, were notably snubbed. Warner Bros unveiled a new official trailer for SINNERS from director Ryan Coogler and frequent collaborator and star Michael B. Jordan, the film will hit theatres April 18. David Leitch — the stuntman turned director behind John Wick and The Fall Guy — is in talks to direct Ocean's 14. The film is expected to return original Ocean's 11 cast members George Clooney and Brad Pitt, among others. Neon has released the first trailer for horror film Hell of a Summer, starring Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who is also making his directorial debut. The film debuts in theaters on April 18. HBO has renewed anthology series The White Lotus for a fourth season. The third season will begin streaming on February 16. Focus Features, Universal's art house division which released and financed Nosferatu, is reteaming with Robert Eggers for his next film titled Werwulf, currently set for release on Christmas Day 2026. While details are scarce, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the story is set in 13th century England. George Nolfi, known for his screenplay work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean's 12, has been tapped to write New Jedi Order, the Daisy Ridley-centric Star Wars movie. The move to Nolfi makes the third writer change for the project.

Three years after his first appearance on Principle of Charity, the effervescent Tim Minchin returns for this first, and very special spotlight episode for 2025. Emile, Lloyd and Tim reflect on the principle of charity itself, and how themes explored in Tim's latest book You Don't Have To Have a Dream (Penguin Random House) relate to its application in our lives. What role can the scientific method, kindness and authenticity play in helping us consider the viewpoints of those with whom we most disagree, and lead flourishing lives? Tim MinchinIn addition to two decades of award-winning live performance and multiple recorded specials, Tim is the composer and lyricist of smash-hit stage musicals, Matilda and Groundhog Day.He is also a screenwriter (of the award-winning Upright, in which he stars alongside House of The Dragon's Milly Alcock), and a screen actor, (Atticus Fetch in Californication, Friar Tuck in Robin Hood 2014, Darius Cracksworth in Disney's The Artful Dodger). He is a public speaker, and a book of his commencement speeches, You Don't Have to Have a Dream, was recently published by Penguin Random House. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for information about all your favorite fictional Universes. Milly Alcock will show us her superhero landing when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow premieres on June 26, 2026. Other than Sasha Calle's portrayal in The Flash, this means we'll see Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El on the big screen for the first time since 1984. The film will be released just a year after we see James Gunn's vision for the man of steel himself. In a move that seems telling of the new direction of MCU, the Marvel Television banner has been reintroduced and will be used for live action series such as Daredevil: Born Again, Agatha All Along, and Ironheart. The banner was previously used for MCU-adjacent shows Agents of SHIELD, Cloak & Dagger, and others. Brad Winderbaum, head of TV, streaming, and animation for Marvel Studios, said the idea is to let audiences know they can “jump in anywhere” in the MCU and still understand what's going on. Winderbaum also alluded to a Marvel Studios rebrand that encompasses Marvel Television, Marvel Animation, and Marvel Spotlight. HBO's streaming service Max released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Dune television spinoff show, Dune: Prophecy. The show is described as taking place 10,000 years before the events that lead to Paul Atreides' rise to emperor and will follow two Harkonnen sisters as they work to establish the Bene Gesserit. Inspired by the book Sisterhood of Dune, the show has mostly been kept under wraps until now. Movie goers probably should have bought a ticket for themselves and their imaginary friends last weekend as John Krasinski's new film IF didn't quite reach expectations with a $35 million opening in the U.S. Although this means it took first place at the box office, the movie cost $110 million to make and a global box office of $55 million is still a stumble. There may be hope yet for the kid-centered flick with a lot of schools across the country ready to enter summer break. Hot off the heels of an incredibly well received first season of X-Men '97, Marvel Studios seems to have found the voice of their live-action X-Men in screenwriter Michael Lesslie. Lesslie's writing credits include Assassin's Creed, The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. While both parties are still in talks, if the addition pans out, it will be the most significant step to actualizing the X-Men in the MCU since Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019. Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne has joined the cast of Fantastic Four in an undisclosed role. Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen's assassin character, Caine. Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table. 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is officially getting a sequel at Netflix with Adam Sandler returning to reprise his role. Amazon's Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer but Sony does plan to shop the series to another studio or streaming service. Sony Pictures announced last week that I Know What You Did Last Summer, a reboot of the film with the same name as the original 1997 horror slasher, is set for theatrical release domestically on July 18, 2025. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are currently in early talks to return. Last week, Disney announced that Hulu is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell to extend the FX series Shōgun for two additional seasons. A writer's room is currently being assembled. Shōgun is currently the most viewed show in FX's history.
Gavia and Steffan review the Australian dramedy series Upright, starring comedian/songwriter Tim Minchin as a down-on-his luck musician who tries to drive across Australia with a piano, befriending a teenage runaway (Milly Alcock) along the way.
