It's (not) a new podcast! Therefore, a great big welcome back to our dearest friend of the podcast, Lo the Lynx, who is also joined by our newest friend, Virginie! Be sure to check out their podcast, Ragman's Harbour. (Get it? Silent Sisters? Ragman's Harbour? We think we're funny.) In this episode, we take a look at Rhaenyra and Alicent's last-ditch effort to broker a peace deal through the lens of gender studies. Is the show being a little too simplistic and gender essentialist when it comes to who wants war and who wants peace? Our guests break it down for us. Then we deep dive into a very haunted Daemon's weirwood dream, where dreams, magic, and reality seem to blur together. And what's eating Daemon and Ser Criston Cole? Could it be actual guilt for respectively earning their lady love's displeasure? Things aren't going so well in the Green's camp, with Aegon ascending his drinking buddies to the King's Guard, Larys Strong ingratiating himself to the king, and Aemond losing his one safe space to be vulnerable. Finally, we turn our attention to Baela, Helaena, and Rhaena. One experiences the thrill of helping the war effort on dragonback, the other processes the death of her child, and the last is entrusted with safeguarding the youngest of Rhaenyra's children. What doth it do Bros? Welcome back to Westeros for the third episode of House of the Dragon season 2. In part one of this episode, the realm is uneasy as war is beginning to seem inevitable. The Brackens and The Blackwoods square of in the Riverland's resulting in a massive battle, setting the stage for the importance of the region. Ser Criston Cole prepares for his first day as hand of the king and wouldn't ya know it, he is not prepared or equipped for the role AND he's late to his first meeting. Rhaenys informs Rhaenyra there may be on way to avoid war and that is her speaking directly with Alicent in an attempt to reason with her. Aegon teases the possibility of riding into war himself to prove that he's "a man"... Mysaria joins Rhaenyra's council. Meanwhile Rhaenyra sends all of her young children away with Rhaena along with 4 dragon eggs. Daemon makes it to Harrenhall and Ser Simon Strong swears fealty to Rhaenyra giving them rule over the region. Reaction: 2024/06/23Breakdown: 2024/06/26 What does love look like in different cultures/houses? Why do we worship royalty/celebrity? Alicent Hightower escapes her reality by way of Ser Criston Cole, defying Otto Hightower's authority and denying her children love: so much so, Aemond Targaryen seeks it in the arms of a brothel madame (who looks strikingly familiar to her).

Vi pratar konsekvenserna av Daemons misslyckade mordplan, interna splittringar, Criston Coles projiceringar och allmänna aint'-shit-ness, tvillingfajten och Aegons taktiska missar. House of the Dragon season 2 begins on a somber note as Rhaenyra and her family(AKA The Blacks) mourn the loss of Lucerys after his death at the end of season 1. Meanwhile, Alicent and the Hightower family(The Greens) continue their plan to install Aegon as king and begin preparing for war. With each family hatching their plans while forces like Larys Strong and the white worm work in the shadows, the impending violence is imminent. Daemon's scheme to bring retribution for the blacks using the assassins "Blood" and "Cheese" is certain to have ripple effects throughout the season. Does the House of the Dragon season 2 premiere effectively set the stage? Tune in to hear our review, recap, and thoughts on these topics: Rhaenyra's reaction to Lucerys's death. Returning to Winterfell and the Wall for the first time since Game of Thrones ended in 2019. The tension between King Aegon and Otto Hightower. Varys Strong's schemes. Ethics with Ser Criston Cole. The tale of the treacherous "Blood" and "Cheese" AKA dumb assassins. This week's winner, loser, and wild card player. What we expect to see next. According to IMDB, "A Son for a Son" is described as: "As Alicent grows concerned by Aegon's Small Council, Rhaenyra arrives at a fateful decision." We have an exciting one to bring you today as we compare Season 1 of House of the Dragon to its novel counterpart, Fire & Blood in its corresponding pages. We are covering the second to last paragraph on Page 350 through the second paragraph on Page 422. While this is not necessarily a spoiler alert since the vast majority of what we talk about from the book is seen on screen, if you haven't read the book and don't want to know how these passages play out on paper, this is your warning. Stay with us as we discuss some of the notable changes that are found between Season 1 and the pages that align in Fire & Blood such as; Ser Criston Cole's relationship with Princess Rhaenyra, Queen Alicent and King Viserys' third son, King Viserys' health condition, Ser Vaemond Velaryon's fate, and Queen Rhaenyra's response to King Aegon II's terms. With Chase & Josh highlighting key differences, providing a numeric grade for Season 1 overall as well as a grade for the affiliated 72 pages in Fire & Blood, and discussing how the portrayal of characters can give a conflicting sense of allegiance, don't miss out! "And with his death, the war of ravens and envoys and marriage pacts came to an end, and the war of fire and blood began in earnest."
We pick back up where we left off last week and shift focus into Episode 4 in the House of the Dragon series today. Amends are attempted, freedom comes with a price, and desires refuse to be ignored. Stick around as things heat up. Daemon makes his return from the Stepstones, Rhaenyra sneaks out of the Red Keep, Ser Criston Cole is on the receiving end of a surprising development, spies make reports to important people of power, the King is burdened with knowledge he refuses to accept, and more than one person is sent away from Kings Landing as a result. With Chase & Josh recapping the episode, debating important topics, discussing the key takeaways, highlighting the important moments, and grading what they saw on screen, you'll want to stick around for this. "You are the dragon. Your word is truth and law."
After King Viserys' death, the Small Council plots to install Prince Aegon on the Iron Throne. Ser Criston Cole kills Lord Beesbury when he objects to Princess Rhaenyra being supplanted, while Lord Commander of the Kingsguard Harrold Westerling resigns in protest. Ser Otto delays announcing the king's death to fortify their position and demands nobles give fealty oaths. Queen Alicent, who learns that Otto always intended to install Aegon as king, fails to gain support from Princess Rhaenys, who is held captive in the castle. When Aegon disappears from the Red Keep, Otto has Kingsguards Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk search the city, while Alicent sends Criston and Prince Aemond. Mysaria, the White Worm, informs Otto that Aegon is hiding in the city's sept, but Criston and Aemond apprehend him after a brief fight. After Lord Larys Strong warns Alicent she is being spied upon, including by Tayla, she has Mysaria's house burned. Aegon insists he is unfit to rule, but Alicent convinces him otherwise, quoting his father's dying words. If last episode explored the themes of sex and pleasure, HotD S1E5 was all about love and marriage, with many proposals being made. Some dutiful, some taunting, and some... uh, romantic (???) but also really not. And since this is a patriarchy, these things can never be divorced (get it?) from gender and sexuality. Thankfully, we had our shining beacon of brilliance, Lo the Lynx, back with us to light the way. Join us as we discuss Viserys fighting through his declining health to get Rhaenyra to the altar, FINALLY. Power couple, Corlys and Rhaenys, share their hopes and fears for their children, revealing another layer to each of their characters. The inherant kindness and compassion in the way Rhaenyra and Laenor strike a pact to both do their duty and support each other's personal happiness in their marriage. It was beautiful to watch! We also discuss our parallel paramours, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth and Ser Criston Cole, and their very divergent attitudes towards the arrangement made by Laenor and Rhaenyra. The rift between Alicent and Rhaenyra widens as Otto Hightower poisons what's left of their friendship on his way out. Alicent doubles down on her conservativism and is the first to throw down the gauntlet of war with The Green Dress™. And things turn somber and sad as we must talk about what happened between Criston and Joffrey, the violence queer people face in real life, and our critique of how the show writers handled the manner of Joffrey's death as it relates to his sexuality. Before arriving at its inevitably dark conclusion, "We Light the Way," begins with the introduction and death of Daemon's wife, Lady Rhea Royce, a transactional marriage proposal between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon in the Driftmark, Ser Criston Cole goes rogue due to a broken heart, and a new grudge forged between Alicent Hightower and the rest of the King's inner circle. What could the latest Westerosi wedding spell for the seven kingdoms? Today's podcast topics include: Our initial review of "We Light the Way" What the latest bloody Westerosi wedding could mean for Rhaenyra Targaryen and Laenor Velaryon How many episodes does King Viserys Targaryen have left before his inevitable death? James and Ender discuss the pilot episode The Heirs of the Dragon HBO's new Original series House of the Dragon. Overview: With both his sons dead and the succession undecided, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen convenes a Great Council for the Westerosi lords to select a future ruler. Jaehaerys' eldest grandson, Prince Viserys, is chosen over his eldest grandchild, Princess Rhaenys. Nine years into his reign, Viserys organizes a tournament to celebrate Queen Aemma Arryn's pregnancy, confident she will give birth to a male heir. The Small Council disregards Master of Ships Lord Corlys Velaryon's warning that the Triarchy, an alliance of Essos' Free Cities, threatens to cripple Westerosi shipping lanes. Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, criticizes Viserys's brother and heir, Prince Daemon, for his brutality as the City Watch commander. At the tournament, Ser Criston Cole, a common-born Dornish knight, outcompetes Daemon, while Aemma dies in childbirth, her son, Baelon, dying shortly after. Viserys refuses the council's pleas to anoint a new heir until Ser Otto reveals that Daemon mockingly styled Baelon as, "The Heir for a Day." Outraged, Viserys banishes Daemon from King's Landing and anoints his only living child, Princess Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne. Episode Director: Miguel Sapochnik Episode Writter: Ryan Condal

Fire Will Reign Emotional Fantasy Music - Ice & Fire by Solas. House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series that is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019), both based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R. R. Martin. The prequel series was created by Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO and is based on portions of Fire & Blood. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are showrunners for House of the Dragon. Set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons". Season One, Episode One: The Heirs of the Dragon: In the last years of the reign of Jaehaerys Targaryen, the Old King, tragedies took the lives of his two eldest sons, Princes Aemon and Baelon, leaving the question of succession open. Faced with this situation, the king convened a Great Council where all the lords of Westeros would choose their future ruler. Two of Jaehaerys' grandchildren were candidates for succession, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, the richest man at the time, and Prince Viserys Targaryen, Rhaenys' younger cousin and husband of Lady Aemma Arryn. By Westerosi law, a male descendant always comes ahead of a female descendant, causing Rhaenys to lose even though she was the oldest descendant of the king. Nine years later, King Viserys I reigns under the threat of the Triarchy, an alliance made by the free cities of Essos to obtain the region of Stepstones. In addition, Viserys has to deal with his brother Daemon Targaryen's misbehavior for practicing brutality against criminals in King's Landing in command of the City Watch. Queen Aemma dies during childbirth along with her newborn son, who would be Viserys' heir. The Queen's death occurred during the tournament held for the Prince's birth, where Ser Criston Cole defeated Daemon. The Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, suggests that Viserys name his only living child, the young princess Rhaenyra, as heir to the Iron Throne instead of Daemon. After a falling out with Daemon, Viserys officially names his daughter Rhaenyra the Princess of Dragonstone and has several lords swear allegiance to her. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
