Hey everyone...in honor of our upcoming 100th episode (!!!), I'll be occasionally re-releasing some of my favorite past conversations. And why not start with a bang: Actor, Musician & Director Paddy Considine on his favorite band Guided By Voices and their documentary Watch Me Jumpstart (Episode 34 which originally aired on May 2nd, 2024).Now that you've all caught up with Paddy and the rest of the Harrigan family on the season finale of MobLand & his band Riding The Low releasing their latest 12" EP (Above And Beyond), it's time to revisit this episode where we discuss this band that brought us together and how this documentary changed our lives forever. The original podcast show notes:This week, we talked to the actor (House Of The Dragons, 24 Hour Party People, The World's End), musician (Riding The Low), writer/director (Tyrannosaur, Journeyman) Paddy Considine, about his all-time favorite band (in any universe), Guided By Voices and the documentary Watch Me Jumpstart.  We discuss these mythical legends of Dayton, what it was like for Chris being in the band and working with Pollard, Pollard's incredible work ethic and output, Paddy's trip from the UK to visit Ohio for the first time and taking a GBV/Bob Pollard tour of Dayton, the eureka moment of understanding the band, wrapping your mind around Bob's lyrics, the early confusion of why, how and who was recording this music, being under-appreciated by the establishment, GBV's influence on Paddy's acting writing & music, Pollard's legendary mix-tapes, turning people onto the band, the obsession of collecting Pollard's entire discography, beer, basements and talking to Bono about Guided By Voices. So, disarm the settlers, and let's go deep into the world of Guided By Voices on this episode of Revolutions Per Movie.PADDY CONSIDINE:Riding The Low:https://www.ridingthelow.co.uk/Tyrannosaur:https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B007ZYJT1U/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_rREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. Hot Fuzz Full Reaction Watch Along:   / thereelrejects   With Simon Pegg returning to theatres in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Greg & Aaron continue their CORNETTO TRILOGY Binge with a Hot Fuzz Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Greg Alba & Aaron Alexander as they swap London's rainy streets for the seemingly sleepy village of Sandford in Edgar Wright's 2007 action-comedy Hot Fuzz. When top London policeman Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg, Shaun of the Dead, The World's End) is transferred to the idyllic West Country, he's paired with bumbling local cop Danny Butterman (Nick Frost, Paul, Attack the Block). But Sandford's picture-postcard charm hides a dark secret—and Angel's meticulous policing uncovers a string of “accidents” that may actually be murders disguised to maintain the village's Perfect Parish Award. Rounding out the stellar cast are Jim Broadbent as the genial but suspicious Inspector Frank Butterman (Iris, Moulin Rouge!), Timothy Dalton chomping scenery as elitist Simon Skinner (James Bond in The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill), and Olivia Colman bringing comic flair as pub manager Dorothy “The Heat” Lintott (The Favourite, Broadchurch). Rafe Spall stands out as self-important councilman Michael “Lurch” Armstrong (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), while Paddy Considine impresses as paranoid farmer Charlie Wainwright (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Outsider). Greg & A-A-Ron break down every memorable moment—from the frantic supermarket aisle shootout and the legendary “gravy train” pub brawl, to the adrenaline-pumping car chase through Sandford's narrow lanes and the explosive finale in the village church. Don't miss their take on the film's razor-sharp editing, signature Wright-Jedward humor, and the way Hot Fuzz brilliantly subverts buddy-cop tropes while delivering some of the most highly searched-for action-comedy sequences of the 2000s! With rare exceptions, The Nose doesn’t usually cover movies from the previous Oscar season once the actual Oscars have happened. But major world events are the sort of things for which one might break with tradition, and with the death of Pope Francis on April 21, we thought we might make an exception. Conclave is a 2024 political thriller melodrama based on the 2016 Robert Harris novel. It’s set at the Vatican and tells the story of the death of one pope and the election of the next. Conclave was nominated for eight Academy Awards this year, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes, and Best Supporting Actress for Isabella Rossellini. It won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. And: MobLand is a British crime drama television series. It was originally developed for Showtime as a spinoff origin story for Ray Donovan. But it eventually morphed into the standalone gangster story that has become the most-watched series launch ever for Paramount+. It stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and Helen Mirren. On the latest episode of Bingeworthy, host Mike DeAngelo dives into the violent and dysfunctional criminal underworld of "MobLand," the new hit Paramount+ series that blends London gangster drama with Shakespearean tragedy. The series stars Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a streetwise fixer trying to hold his mob family together as rival clans threaten to tear everything apart. The show also features standout performances from Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Paddy Considine, and more (read our review here). While the opening scenes showcase Hardy's character executing brutal clean-up jobs with unnerving calm, the show slowly peels back the layers of its characters, revealing deep family wounds, conflicting loyalties, and a criminal hierarchy on the verge of collapse. As Hardy described it, "It may be wrapped up in a gangster genre, but there's a lot more going on… It's like 'Game of Thrones' in Bermondsey.”

Ian and Michael from Lord Of Adders Black: A Black mo baadder Podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Ian's choice The Death of Stalin. The Death of Stalin (2017) is a satirical black comedy written and directed by Armando (The Thick of It) Iannucci. In the wake of the death of Joseph Stalin, the remaining members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union bicker and fight over who will succeed him. Its ensemble cast includes Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Paddy Considine, Rupert Friend, Jason Isaacs, Olga Kurylenko, Michael Palin, Andrea Riseborough, Dermot Crowley, Paul Chahidi, Adrian McLoughlin, Paul Whitehouse, and Jeffrey Tambor. The Death of Stalin attempts to condense a very complex period of what was then the Soviet Union into 1 hour and 47 minutes with added satirical comedy. Its sheer number of key players adds to its denseness. It's tricky balance of humour and people being shot in the head won't be for everyone and the recommendability scores reflected this. The Death of Stalin scores 4.23 overall.

It's time for a deep dive – literally – as we plunge into the abyss on this aquatic edition of Bad Dads Film Review.First up, let's submerge ourselves in the world of submarines! Over the years, there have been so many iconic submarines that have graced the big screen, haven't there? Remember The Nautilus from "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"? A true marvel of underwater engineering! Then, of course, there's The Red October from "The Hunt for Red October" – Sean Connery's Russian accent and a game of underwater cat-and-mouse? Classic! And how can we forget U-96 from "Das Boot", giving us an unflinching look at life aboard a German U-boat during WWII. We also have The USS Alabama from "Crimson Tide", where Denzel and Gene Hackman go head-to-head in a battle of wills. And, to round off our list, there's the USS Dallas from "The Hunt for Red October" – a fine piece of American craftsmanship involved in the hunt for its Russian counterpart. With our heads still submerged, our Movie of the Week is "Submarine". Richard Ayoade's directorial debut, this coming-of-age film is dry, witty, and beautifully shot. It's not about submarines in the way you might think, but it's a deep dive into the complexities of adolescence, family dynamics, and the ever-challenging journey of growing up.Then, for a trip down nostalgia lane, let's journey into the depths with "Stingray". It's a blast from the past for some of us! This marionette-filled adventure was a staple of kids' TV back in the day. "Anything can happen in the next half hour" was the promise, and boy, did it deliver! Aquatic adventures, villains, and of course, Marina, the mute mermaid. It might be a little cheesy by today's standards, but it's got a charm that's undeniable. So whether you're all about the deep-sea adventures, navigating the tumultuous waters of teenage life, or just in the mood for some retro TV memories, we've got you covered. Make sure your periscope's up, and let's set sail on another episode of Bad Dads Film Review!

Spooky season is officially upon us, and Not A Bomb is ready to hand out all the treats! This year, our listeners picked out the movies for Spooktober! We are kicking this terrifying month off with 2016's post-apocalyptic sci/fi horror film - The Girl with All the Gifts. Based on the book of the same name, The Girl with All the Gifts depicts the breakdown of society after a fungal outbreak. Does this sound a lot like a popular Sony video game that turned into a critically acclaimed show? The two share a lot of similarities! Sporting a very strong cast and a unique spin on the zombie genre, The Girl with All the Gifts was not released in the United States but did receive a lot of critical acclaim in the UK. Does this film have what it takes to stand out in the zombie crowd? Should it have played in American theaters? Are fungal zombies scarier than the classic George Romero zombies? Listen and find out!The Girl with All the Gifts is directed by Colm McCarthy and stars Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine, Glenn Close, and Sennia Nanua.Shoutout to listener Tom H for the great recommendation! Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost followed up Shuan of the Dead with the second installment of their now so-called Three Flavours Cornetto Triology - or, alternatively, the “Blood and Ice Cream” trilogy - trading zombie movie rom-com parody for buddy cop movies (Point Break or Bad Boys II?) and rural paranoia thrillers like The Wicker Man. When top London cop Nicholas Angel is transferred to a quaint countryside village and is saddled with inept partner, he begins to suspect that the town may be hiding a dark secret. Featuring Jim Broadbent, Timothy Dalton, Paddy Considine, Olivia Colman, and a whole village's worth of stalwart British stars, the film was an instant hit and proved to be the highest-grossing “flavour” of the three. Set against the backdrop of Margaret Thatcher's Britain, the film incorporates historical details and enough recognizable British talent to appeal to the Harry Potter crowd, but didn't exactly strike paydirt at the box office.
