If you have ever wondered what would happen if Cinderella was a story about a boy, well, we warmly present The Princess on the Glass Hill!A pleasing example of the Youngest Son doing things his elder brothers can't, the real question the story asks is, would marrying this particular princess be a route to happiness? Because... who is she, really?!If you are unfamiliar with the Lang Fairy Tales, these seminal collections were assembled between 1889 and 1913 by a married couple, folklorists and translators Nora and Andrew Lang, with most of the work done to compile them completed by Nora, also known as Leonora Blanche Alleyne.Assembled and published in 12 colour-coded "Fairy Books," the corpus the Langs put together included 798 fairy tales from across cultures, many of which had never before been translated into English. They were amongst the most influential books of their time, changing the course of children's literature - although they're hardly just for children, and often deal with quite challenging concepts.Today, purchasing a complete set of the Lang Fairy Books in good condition costs over £4,000 ($5,000+).Thankfully, the collections are all out of copyright, meaning that we can now tell these stories, in podcast form, many for the first time, and share them with a global audience, for free. Our plan is to release the stories between main series of Three Ravens, performing them straight (though with plenty of silly voices) letting the tales speak for themselves in all their madcap, sharp-edged, often quite bizarre glory. The only edits we have made are to amend some culturally-insensitive epithets, which typically pertain to ethnicity, with any such edits made by Eleanor Conlon.Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?REGISTER FOR THE TALES OF SOUTHERN ENGLAND TOURProud members of the Dark Cast Network.Visit our website Join our Patreon Social media channels and sponsors Hosted on Acast. A re-release of one of my favorite episodes, in memory of Rob Reiner, whose direction gave us one of the most enduring love stories of all time. Some movies don't just entertain you. They quietly shape who you become. This week on Hopeless Romantics, we're revisiting The Princess Bride with Meg Mansell, a film that taught us about love, loyalty, humour, and why “as you wish” hits harder than it ever should. We talk about watching it as kids, rewatching it as adults, and how different the story feels once you've lived a little. From Buttercup and Wesley's version of true love, to the heartbreak and purity of Inigo Montoya and his father, this conversation goes far beyond fairy tales and sword fights. We also unpack how romance changes with age, why anxiety once passed for butterflies, and how friendship, safety, and humour end up mattering more than grand gestures. In this excerpt from their February 10 book club recap episode, the Ladies announce their next pick for the Lutheran Ladies' Book Club: George MacDonald's The Princess and the Goblin. From one of many publisher descriptions: "When Princess Irene and her nursemaid stay out too late one night and are chased home by goblins, a young miner boy called Curdie comes to their rescue. So begins a fantastic adventure in which Irene and Curdie must try to stop a goblin invasion, helped by Irene's mysterious great-great-grandmother. This much-loved tale was a personal favourite of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien." Looking ahead, the Ladies also announce their upcoming summer book club read: book three of C. S. Lewis's renowned Space Trilogy, That Hideous Strength. Click to learn more about George MacDonald's The Princess and the Goblin and C. S. Jodi, Bridget, and Philip discuss the seminal 2007 Disney animated/live-action hybrid 'Enchanted,' from director Kevin Lima. This film would usher in the post-Rennaissance era of the Disney Princess which saw a soft revival with 'The Princess and the Frog' and truly exploded with CGI hits like 'Tangled' and 'Frozen.' Amy Adams portrays Giselle, a beautiful princess hidden away in the countryside of the kingdom of Andalasia. With a prologue lifted mostly from 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,' an evil queen desperate for power refuses to allow her stepson Prince Edward's marriage to Giselle to go through. Giselle is banished to another realm and finds herself in 2007 New York City, where she meets and befriends Patrick Dempsey's Robert and his daughter, Morgan. Entrenched in his own busy lifestyle, Robert has no time for Giselle and her fantasies but somehow can't help but be drawn to her. When Giselle is followed to New York by Edward and the Queen's henchman, a plot ensues that could spell a dire fate for Giselle and everyone around her. In this episode, I want to talk about my eldest two sons - Josiah and Elihu - attending a dance for homeschooled teenagers this past Friday. Spoiler alert: their telling of the whole business was pure comedic gold, and had their mother and I laughing until we cried about it. Also, my brother-in-law Kris Duff came to visit us for the weekend from North Dakota. So the whole lot of us piled into our 12-passenger van and visited Rocky Mountain National Park only to realize we should have stopped for a bathroom break in Estes Park before a nearly 5-mile hike on Cub Lake Trail. In other news, I finished both 'The Princess and the Goblin' by George MacDonald and 'A Philosophical Enquiry into the Sublime and Beautiful' by Edmund Burke since last episode. Both well-deserved five stars out of five from me. And MacDonald's fantasy will merit a Series Review once I finish the other works. For this episode, we will talk briefly about Burke's foray into the realm of aesthetics, and how he talks about "that part of a beautiful woman where she is perhaps the most beautiful." Also, I have some thoughts on the most recent update regarding Elon Musk taking over Twitter. What might his reasons be for declining a seat on her Board of Directors, and could it have something to do with his suggestion that the company change its name to 'Titter'? All this and more in this episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/garrett-ashley-mullet/support

A princess who leads by example, empowering others simply by living her own truth, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway doesn't bow to standard protocol or societal norms. Rather, she stands for what she believes, unafraid and unapologetic of her authentic self. As opposed to being defined by her title, she boldly defines the title in terms of her own as an agent for change. You probably know it as 'The Princess and The Pea', but I personally think Hans Christian Andersen told it best in 'The Real Princess'. Subscribe to The Folktale Project at http://folktaleproject.com/subscribe Support The Folktale Project https://www.patreon.com/join/folktaleproject

On this week's edition of The Filum Show, Brian and Dee clash (!) over 'Ad Astra', Brad Pitt, movies about dads and sci-fi - all while Eoin has to look on in horror at what's become of the show. Dee talks Sylvester Stallone and 'Rambo: Last Blood', and 'The Kitchen' is up on the chopping block. Not only that, the gang talk 'The Princess Bride' remake that's currently being touted by Sony, and how it's as close as you can get to perfection with a movie.
