The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Garth Heckman Spud Webb 5'7 In Junior high he went to try out and his coach told him to sit in the stands…. You are too short.  Cut from his Junior year of BB and had to talk his coach into keeping him. He scored 20 points his first game.  No Div. 1 college would even look at him. So he had to play at Midland College- lead them to a national JR league Championship, then got a scholarship to NC state.  Every NBA scout scoffed. They said maybe he could play overseas or if he was lucky he could play with the Harlem Globetrotters. Every NBA team passed on him multiple times… He fell to the fifth round and was drafted by the Detroit pistons… and cut before the season ever started.  He was “lucky” enough to be signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Hawks… At that time his star teammate Dominique Williams was the Slam dunk Champion… spud entered the contest and Dominique said he thought it was a joke and he would do layups… Spud won with numerous 360 slams, dunks off the backboard and Reverse slam dunks…. People laughed at him! He credits his belief in knowing God gave him that talent for a reason, and that dream for a purpose.    My question today is: How will you respond when people laugh at your dream?       Gen 18:1  And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2  He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth 3  and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.4  Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree,5  while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.”6  And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.7  And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly.8  Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.9  They said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.”10  The LORD said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.11  Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah.12  So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?”13  The LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?'14  Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”15  But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”         Rather than just "inappropriate" or "disrespectful," biblical scholars and linguists often look at Sarah's reaction in Genesis 18:12 through a few distinct lenses:   1. Incredulous Incredulity captures a mix of disbelief, shock, and impossibility. Sarah was roughly 90 years old, well past childbearing age, and had dealt with a lifetime of infertility. Hearing a stranger tell Abraham she would have a baby by the following year sounded biologically absurd.   Abraham lives in a Spiritual and Theological worldview… Sarah lives in a physical biological world view…     2. Sarcastic (or Cynical) In Hebrew, Sarah's inner monologue reads as a self-deprecating scoff: "After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?" Describing her reaction as sarcastic or cynical highlights the defense mechanism of a woman who had likely given up hope decades prior and saw the statement as a cruel taunt or bad joke.   3. Human Her reaction was deeply human. It wasn't necessarily a malicious rebellion against God; it was an involuntary emotional slip—a defense mechanism triggered by years of grief, trauma, and disappointment over her barrenness.   The Nuance: Her laugh isn't scoffing insolence; it's a reflex against emotional re-traumatization. When a deep, long-buried desire is suddenly brought up by a stranger, cynicism acts as armor to protect the heart from being broken one more time. The Insight: Faith doesn't require instantaneous emotional compliance. God engages directly with her reaction rather than striking her down, recognizing the pain behind her defense.   4. Prophetic In the broader arc of Genesis, her laughter is viewed as prophetic or foreshadowing. The Hebrew root for laugh (tzachaq) is the exact root used for the name of the child God promises: Isaac (Yitzchak), which literally means "he laughs" or "laughter". What began as the laugh of doubt in Genesis 18 transforms into the laugh of joy and wonder when Isaac is born in Genesis 21: "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me".   Key takeaway: While her response is often labeled as "disbelief," calling it incredulous or sarcastic better captures her emotional reality, while calling it prophetic reveals the literary wordplay embedded in the text.     MAYBE OUR REACTION SHOULD MATCH *TO SOME DEGREE …SARAHS… WHY? WHY WOULD GOD USE ABRAHAM A MAN OF MANY FAULTS?      Failure 1: Deception in Egypt Age ~75 (Gen 12:10–20) The Misstep: When a severe famine strikes Canaan, Abram migrates to Egypt without seeking divine direction. Fearing the Egyptians will kill him for his beautiful wife, he asks Sarai to lie and say she is his sister.   The Fallout: Pharaoh takes Sarai into his royal palace as a concubine while enriching Abram. God strikes Pharaoh's household with severe plagues. Upon discovering the truth, Pharaoh rebukes Abram for his deceit and expels his family from Egypt.       Separation from Lot & Rescue Age ~75–80 (Gen 13–14) As their livestock herds grow too large for the land to support both of them, quarreling breaks out between Abram's and Lot's herdsmen. Abram generously gives Lot first pick WITHOUT SEEKING GOD - Lot gets captured.      The Unconditional Covenant Age ~85 (Gen 15) Abram voices concern that he remains childless and his servant Eliezer will inherit his house. God reassures Abram that a biological son will be his heir and cuts a formal covenant with him, promising descendants as numerous as the stars.       Failure 2: Scheming with Hagar Age 85–86 (Gen 16) The Misstep: After living in Canaan for ten years without a child, Sarai proposes that Abram take her Egyptian servant, Hagar, as a surrogate mother. Abram agrees without seeking God's guidance, taking matters into his own hands to force the fulfillment of the promise.   The Fallout: Once Hagar becomes pregnant, domestic conflict erupts. Hagar despises Sarai, Sarai mistreats Hagar, and Abram washes his hands of the dispute. Hagar flees into the wilderness before an angel instructs her to return. She gives birth to Ishmael when Abram is 86.       The Covenant of Circumcision & Abraham's Internal Doubt Age 99 (Gen 17) The Moment of Disbelief: After 13 years of silence, God appears, renames Abram to Abraham ("Father of a Multitude") and Sarai to Sarah ("Princess"), and institutes circumcision as the covenant sign. When God explicitly states that Sarah herself will bear a son within a year, Abraham falls face down and laughs to himself, asking mentally: "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at ninety?" (Gen 17:17).     The Three Visitors at Mamre & Sarah's Laugh Age 99 (Gen 18:1–15) Three divine visitors visit Abraham under the oaks of Mamre. The Lord repeats the divine pledge: "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son."   Overhearing this from inside the tent entrance, Sarah laughs to herself, thinking about her advanced age and physical state. When the Lord asks why she laughed and whether anything is too hard for God, Sarah denies it out of fear, but the Lord responds: "No, you did laugh."     MAYBE SARAH IS LAUGHING KNOWING WHO HER HUSBAND REALLY IS?       BECAUSE EVEN AFTER THIS VISITATION FROM GOD….   King Abimelech (Genesis 20:1–18) The Outcome: Abimelech takes Sarah into his harem. However, God appears to Abimelech in a dream, warning him that Sarah is married and that he will die if he touches her. Abimelech protests that he acted in good faith, returns Sarah untouched, gives Abraham restitution, and asks why Abraham did this.     Pattern in Abraham's Failures Across these 24 years, Abraham's missteps shared a common theme: self-preservation and impatience.     BUT LETS ASK OURSELVES A QUESTION: Regardless of how Sarah saw her husband Abraham - regardless of how we see him… How did God see him?      Names and Titles Given to Abraham   Abraham ("Father of a Multitude"): Originally named Abram ("Exalted Father"), God personally renamed him in Genesis 17:5 to reflect his ultimate destiny: "No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations." "My Friend": God personally refers to Abraham as His friend in Isaiah 41:8 ("Abraham My friend"), a title affirmed throughout Scripture (2 Chronicles 20:7, James 2:23). Prophet: In Genesis 20:7, God speaks to King Abimelech regarding Abraham, stating, "Restore the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live." "My Servant": God repeatedly refers to Abraham with honor as His servant (Genesis 26:24, Psalm 105:6), marking him as a trusted agent of the Divine will. The Promises and Blessings Spoken Over Him Divine Shield and Great Reward: Infinite Descendants: Royal Lineage and Multiplied Nations: Universal Blessing for All Humanity: Divine Protection: An Everlasting Land Covenant:     SARAH MAY HAVE LAUGHED AT FIRST IN DISBELIEF - BUT   3. Sarah's later reversal is the untold "second half" of the story. But Genesis 21:6 gives Sarah's own commentary once Isaac is born: "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." She takes the very word she used in doubt and reclaims it in worship. Isaac's name literally means "he laughs." This is a remarkable narrative arc — cynical laughter transformed into worshipful laughter —          FINAL THOUGHT: WHY DID GOD CHOOSE ABRAHAM?  IN SPITE OF ALL HIS FLAWS HE PRACTICED GODS HEART AND DESIGN FOR PRAYER.   What do I mean? Gen. 18 later in the chapter God tells Abraham I am going to destroy Sodom and Gomorra and Abraham does something very familiar according to Luke 11.       Luke 11 tells us how to pray - AFTER SHARING THE LORDS PRAYER JESUS SAYS SOMETHING AWKWARD ABOUT PRAYER - A parable.  A man goes to his friends house - he needs 3 loaves of bread… he will not give up asking.    If you ask seek knock - out of sheer perseverance I will answer!   Abraham here in Gen. 18 does just that for Sodom and Gomorra - showing Gods heart for the lost. 50 45 40 30 20 10!   I believe one of the greatest clues is given in these two stories in scripture about who God uses!   The one that will not give up asking God to fulfill his purpose!     WHAT IF WE UNDERSTOOD THE STORY OF ABRAHAM LIKE THIS: Yes he was a heap of missteps, failures, a massive example of weak humanity….    But in all his mistakes and failures he never quit asking God for that son!  FOR THAT ANSWERED PRAYER.      WILL YOU BE THE ONE WHO P.U.S.H.es into God. P - pray U - until S - something H - happens?

In today’s episode of the Speaking4Him Podcast, I share my thoughts on The Chosen Season 4 Episode 5: “Sitting, Serving, Scheming.” This episode offers a powerful look at three very different responses to Jesus — each one challenging us to examine our own hearts. 1. The Power of Serving Beyond Expectations We see characters who are challenged by Jesus to go the extra mile in service, not out of obligation, but out of love. Their actions remind us that true service flows from a heart transformed by Christ. When we serve others sacrificially, we reflect His character in a world that desperately needs it. 2. Mary & Martha: Giving Jesus Your Heart The familiar story of Mary and Martha is portrayed with fresh emotional depth. Martha’s busyness and Mary’s devotion highlight a timeless truth: Jesus desires our hearts more than our performance. This episode invites us to slow down, sit at His feet, and let His presence reorder our priorities. 3. Judas Iscariot: When You Miss Jesus at the Heart Level Judas’s storyline continues to unfold with tension and tragedy. His inability to grasp Jesus’ mission at a heart level leads him down a dangerous path. The episode shows how misunderstanding Jesus — or trying to fit Him into our own agenda — can have devastating consequences. Listen to my full review on the Speaking4Him Podcast, and then watch this episode for free on The Chosen app or thechosen.tv!. It’s well worth your time, and I believe it will challenge and encourage you in your walk with Christ.

Jeffrey Epstein's history appeared to connect two predatory systems: the sexual-abuse network he operated for years and the opaque financial world that helped build his wealth, reputation and access to powerful people. He recruited and abused girls, including minors, while Ghislaine Maxwell was later convicted of helping facilitate that trafficking operation. Long before those crimes became publicly known, Epstein had worked as a highly paid consultant for Steven Hoffenberg at Towers Financial, which collapsed as one of the largest Ponzi schemes in American history after investors were defrauded of more than $450 million. Hoffenberg later claimed Epstein had been deeply involved in the fraud, but Epstein was never charged in connection with the Towers scheme. The overlap nevertheless raised enduring questions about whether Epstein had learned early on how to exploit secrecy, deception, elite connections and other people's vulnerabilities for his own benefit. Those same characteristics fueled allegations that Epstein's sexual operation may also have functioned as a “honeypot” or blackmail enterprise. Survivors and other witnesses described a world in which wealthy and influential men were brought into Epstein's properties, while reports of cameras, recordings and his unusual access to political, financial and royal circles encouraged suspicions that compromising encounters were being documented and potentially used as leverage. Some former intelligence figures and authors alleged that Epstein had operated on behalf of an intelligence service, but those claims were never conclusively proven, and federal investigators later said they had found insufficient evidence that he ran a trafficking ring for powerful men or maintained a formal “client list.” What remained undeniable was that Epstein created an environment built around sexual exploitation, secrecy and access to power, while the unanswered questions surrounding his finances, surveillance practices and relationships ensured that the honeypot allegations never disappeared.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Jacob, a lifelong schemer, finds himself in a mysterious all-night wrestling match in Genesis 32. This encounter becomes an enacted metaphor for his life, forcing him to move from wrestling by scheming to wrestling by trusting God. Ultimately, Jacob surrenders his self-reliance, foreshadowing the ultimate surrender of our Savior, Jesus, in Gethsemane. Choose to wrestle with life's difficulties by surrendering and trusting in God's power, rather than relying on your own schemes.

This week the theme is simple: STAY SCHEMING.  We open with the "Spin That" controversy taking over everybody's timeline — India.Arie's response video, the boycott debate, and why the real issue isn't one song, it's the lack of balance in today's music compared to the 90s. That spirals into booster culture, the underground food stamp economy, and why every good scheme requires patience (looking at you, Brinks truck guy). Then we get into one of the great 90s urban legends: did Toni Braxton really break up the young Dallas Mavericks — Jason Kidd, Jimmy Jackson, and Jamal Mashburn? And was her "Good girls don't kiss and tell" response the greatest album promo scheme ever pulled? (The Secrets album turns 30 this month, so Jimmy Jackson is conveniently telling the story again...) Plus: DJ Jazzy Jeff reveals he mixed Jill Scott's classic albums under the alias "George Glass" — and even won awards under the fake name. We debate who invented the producer tag, break down 9th Wonder's Billboard chart experiment (spoiler: Reasonable Doubt didn't sell in '96 and it's still a classic), and confess which albums our younger selves overrated. Stacy brings a full segment of 90s songs you didn't know were covers — Brian McKnight's "Crazy Love," Maxwell's "Woman's Work," Monica's "Angel of Mine," Xscape's "Who Can I Run To," Whitney's "I Will Always Love You," Destiny's Child's "Emotion," and more that will make you question your whole childhood. We also cover Uncle Luke's run for Congress, Mara Brock Akil asking for $50 MILLION to make the Girlfriends movie, a full turn-by-turn map breakdown of Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Posse on Broadway" (the whole song takes place on like six blocks!), the eternal debate of O-Dog vs. Bishop — psychopath or sociopath? — a 90s streetwear draft (justice for Cross Colours!), and Brian McKnight's truly diabolical Father's Day interview. We close it out with a full track-by-track revisit of Tevin Campbell's "I'm Ready" (1993) — the Babyface heat, the Prince problem, why "Shhh" should have never happened, and our final ratings.

Ghost and Ashe in America walk through Season 4 Episode 5, a dense hour with three parallel crises of faith. Judas visits his old mentor Hadad in Bethany, and inside of three minutes Hadad has coached him through why he should be taking a stipend, investing at interest, and positioning himself for Secretary of the Treasury when Jesus takes the throne. The hosts unpack why the character is written not as a scheming villain but as a precocious, earnest guy whose novelty wore off, whose ego never got the death the other disciples got, and who runs back to his old life instead of to Jesus the moment doubt shows up. Meanwhile in Jerusalem, Yusuf arrives at the Sanhedrin and watches Lahad casually pitch murdering Jesus to draw attention to a Beersheba border-expansion project. Sound familiar. And Martha misses the whole thing standing in the kitchen resenting Mary for sitting at Jesus's feet. Jesus tells his mother his followers are spiritually destitute because when people do not want to hear the truth, they turn off their ears. That is the working definition of a normie, delivered by Jesus himself.

David is first author on GPQA and co-author on HCAST and the METR Time Horizons paper. Together they built the measurement Daniel Kokotajlo called the single most important piece of evidence on AI timelines: the log-linear line of "how long a task a frontier model can complete at 50% reliability" vs release date. The conversation opens on reward hacking. Current models can articulate in chat why a behaviour is undesired and then execute it anyway as agents. From there: construct validity, Melanie Mitchell's four-problem taxonomy, and the ARC-AGI 1-to-2 collapse as a worked example of adversarially-selected benchmarks regressing once labs target them. Beth's counter: METR deliberately does not adversarially select. David's: models do not have to do the right thing for the right reasons.Methodology, then specification — David's compiler analogy, Beth on four-month tasks as expensive to evaluate rather than unspecifiable. Then the SWE-bench reality check, the METR finding that half of passing PRs would not be merged, and Beth's horses-versus-bank-tellers analogy for the labour market. The close: monitorability, the coin-spinning boat, two-year recursive self-improvement, and Beth's line that "overhyped now" and "big deal later" are not correlated claims.---TIMESTAMPS:00:00:00 Intro00:02:06 Sponsor break: Prolific human-feedback infrastructure00:02:33 Welcome and the scalable oversight motivation00:06:02 Construct validity, benchmark pathologies and the Chollet worry00:15:45 Time Horizons: human time, HCAST tasks and the 50% logistic00:24:50 Is human difficulty really one variable?00:33:05 Agent harness evolution and the inference-compute dividend00:40:00 Scaffolding bells, token budgets and the credit-assignment problem00:44:15 Look at the damn graph: regularisation bug and reliability nuance00:50:00 Why 50%? “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” — Genesis 32:28 Jacob was a schemer. It came naturally. His mother was a schemer, and so was his father (see Genesis 26-27). Scheming was part of the family DNA.Jacob was returning home and wondering what kind of reception he would have from his brother, Esau, whom he had schemed against many years earlier (Genesis 27).But then one night when Jacob was all alone, he faced the one who could not be outwitted. Jacob wrestled that night with God.We might think of this wrestling with God as being for one night, but wasn't it more like for a lifetime? Jacob had wrestled through lots of situations in his life, all of which were in the hands of God. For example, Esau, his elder brother, was the favored son of his father, and Jacob dealt with that by scheming. Jacob also wrestled with finding love and wondering if he could ever return home.We might think of wrestling with God as the opposite of seeking to know and learn from God, but in this case the wrestling became a pathway to a new life signified by a new name. Jacob, now known as Israel, would go through life limping because of that night, but he would have in that limp a sign that God had come to him and blessed him as he faced an uncertain future.God showed up even for a schemer like Jacob. Lord, thank you for being willing to wrestle with Jacob. We can see you are willing to wrestle with us too. Give us what we need in order to follow you. Amen.

The Race to Stop Scheming Before AI Gets Superhuman — Marius Hobbhahn (CEO of Apollo Research)

We often worry about AI models “hallucinating” or making honest mistakes. But what happens when a model knows the truth, but decides to deceive you anyway to achieve a goal of its own? This isn't sci-fi — it's happening regularly in deployment today. Marius Hobbhahn, CEO of the world's top research organisation focused on AI deception (Apollo Research), has been collaborating with OpenAI to figure out what causes OpenAI's reasoning models to 'scheme' against users.Links to learn more, video, and full transcript: https://80k.info/mh25 In a striking case uncovered by Apollo, when many AI models were told they would have capabilities removed if they performed too well on a test, they successfully “sandbagged” — intentionally answering questions incorrectly to appear less capable than they were, while also being careful not to perform so poorly it would arouse suspicion. These models had somehow developed a preference to preserve their own capabilities, despite never being trained in that goal or assigned a task that called for it.This doesn't cause significant risk now, but as AI models become more general, superhuman in more areas, and are given more decision-making power, it could become outright dangerous. In today's episode, Marius details his recent collaboration with OpenAI to train o3 to follow principles like “never lie,” even when placed in “high-pressure” situations where it would otherwise make sense. The good news: They reduced “covert rule violations” (scheming) by about 97%.The bad news: In the remaining 3% of cases, the models sometimes became more sophisticated — making up new principles to justify their lying, or realising they were in a test environment and deciding to play along until the coast was clear.Marius argues that while we can patch specific behaviours, we might be entering a “cat-and-mouse game” where models are becoming more situationally aware — that is, aware of when they're being evaluated — faster than we are getting better at testing.Even if models can't tell they're being tested, they can produce hundreds of pages of reasoning before giving answers and include strange internal dialects humans can't make sense of, making it much harder to tell whether models are scheming or train them to stop.Marius and host Rob Wiblin discuss:Why models pretending to be dumb is a rational survival strategyThe Replit AI agent that deleted a production database and then lied about itWhy rewarding AIs for achieving outcomes might lead to them becoming better liarsThe weird new language models are using in their internal chain-of-thoughtThis episode was recorded on September 19, 2025.Chapters:Cold open (00:00:00)Who's Marius Hobbhahn? Send us a textRHOP-Screaming, Scheming & SamuelsRHOP S10 E9 “Leak What You Speak.”This episode picks up right where the chaos left off: Stacey and Kiarna still going at it, with Stacey loudly reminding everyone Kiarna “doesn't even have a husband.”Wendy tries to mediate, explaining that Stacey only wanted to speak with Monique privately — without Ashley and Kiarna present for safety and comfort reasons. Cue Kiarna firing back that Wendy needs to stay out of it.Stacey walks in just as Kay calls her a “fake fraud bitch,” and the energy instantly shifts. Wendy reiterates Stacey's conditions, and once the sit-down starts, Kiarna immediately excuses herself to head to the bar.Monique asks Stacey to clarify what happened at Pride, and the conversation turns to whether Stacey communicated with Monique's ex, Chris Samuels. Stacey denies ever dating him and reveals that Chris sent her multiple DMs, including passive-aggressive “thank you would be appropriate” messages and comments about filming. Ashley calls the receipts “fraudulent” since texts can be deleted.Wendy suggests that someone in the group is leaking info to Chris, then launches into her comedic “Detective Wig” confessional, listing her suspects: Kiarna, Cookie, Angel and Giselle, Meanwhile, tensions keep exploding — especially between Kay and Stacey, who cannot stop screaming at each other. When Stacey tries to leave, Giselle follows behind with her trademark messy commentary: “If you're leaving, then GO.”After leaving the event, we see calmer personal moments:Stacey at home with Arabella and Thiemo, focusing on family stability during/after divorce.Ashley talking about her Mom's boyfriend drinking and lack of contribution, worrying for her mother Sheila's wellbeing.Wendy opening up to her sister Ivy about her father's decades-long absence and how hurt she was not to see him in Nigeria.Later, Giselle and Angel host a girls' meetup and unload more complaints about Stacy, while Wendy and Stacey regroup to discuss meeting with Monique again — but Stacey refuses to meet with Kay, citing safety and discomfort. We then see Kiarna talking with her family about Greg asking her to move back in. Tension rises when she seems to prioritize the condo over an engagement ring, and her mother is not having it.In the final scene, Ashley gathers Kiarna, Wendy, Stacey, and Monique for a sit-down. Before Wendy and Stacey arrive, Ashley and Kiarna fill Monique in — and Monique, surprisingly calm, says she doesn't know who's telling the truth because everyone involved lies. She makes it VERY clear that all she wants is accuracy because co-parenting with Chris has already been a nightmare.Wendy brings up that Charisse called Chris Samuels, and Chris told her that Stacey did NOT call him — which makes Monique visibly cringe at the mention of Charisse's name. The mystery of who's leaking to Chris only deepens.Support the showhttps://www.wewinewhenever.com/

Hey, it's Amy Newmark with your Chicken Soup for the Soul, and today I'm going to share two stories with you from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Time for Christmas. There's something about the holiday season that sends parents into overdrive, with all the planning and moving parts, and strategizing about gifts and hoping that children who are grown and gone will still come home for the holidays. And that often involves a little motherly scheming, which is what our two stories are about today. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Do you struggle with the need for control, anxiousness, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or performance mentality? If so, there's so much good news for you!In this message, The Rhythms of a Healthy Soul, Pastor Levi Lusko examines The Chosen's powerful portrayal of Martha and Mary, revealing the essential rhythms of a healthy soul and why sitting at Jesus' feet isn't selfish - it's necessary. From The Chosen Season 4, Episode 5 "Sitting, Serving, Scheming" - witness the tension between Martha's elaborate dinner preparations and Mary's choice to sit at Jesus' feet as His disciple. This isn't about correcting hospitality, but about choosing the best thing over good things.Scripture Focus: Luke 10:38-42Discover why Jesus defended Mary's choice and gently corrected Martha's distraction. Set just six months before the cross, this scene in Bethany reveals what we all need: to learn the unforced rhythms of grace and find rest for our souls.4 Lessons for a Healthy Soul:Good things can keep you from the best things. When you focus on others, you leave yourself unattended.Work without worship is wearying. When you lose your why, you lose your way.Jesus' invitation: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace."ABOUT THE SERIES:Is that in the Bible? That's the question we're asking in this five-week series. We're taking cinematic moments from The Chosen and pressing in—opening the Word, digging deep, and letting Scripture speak for itself. Together, with teachings captured from the set of The Chosen, we'll wrestle with the tension, lean into the humanity, and see the life of Jesus through fresh eyes.ABOUT FRESH LIFE:Fresh Life Church was pioneered by Pastors Levi and Jennie Lusko in 2007.
