See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Aileen Wuornos was an American serial killer who gained notoriety in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She was convicted of murdering seven men, Richard Mallory, David Spears, Charles ‘Chuck' Carskaddon, Peter Siems, Eugene ‘Troy' Burress, Charles ‘Dick' Humphreys, and Walter Gino Antonio, in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Wuornos became one of the most infamous female serial killers in American history. Her modus operandi typically involved luring men to secluded areas under the pretense of sexual encounters and then shooting them. Wuornos later claimed that she killed these men in self-defense, alleging that they had either raped or attempted to rape her during these encounters. Wuornos was arrested in 1991 at the “Last Resort” Bar and her trial became highly publicized. She was convicted of the murders and sentenced to death, with her last meal being a cup of black coffee. Her case raised significant debates and controversies regarding her mental health, her background of abuse and trauma, and the ethics of the death penalty. Aileen Wuornos was executed by lethal injection in Florida on October 9, 2002. Her life and crimes have been the subject of various books, documentaries, and films, including the 2003 movie "Monster," in which Charlize Theron portrayed her and won an Academy Award for her performance, and the documentary, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003). Watch until the end, where I will be posting some clips of her last interview, her last words, and how she feels that she would have turned out if she wasn't so tortured since childhood. Comment
Aileen Wuornos has been captured, her killing spree at an end, but her arrest is only on an outstanding warrant. Police need evidence to prove her guilt and they persuade Tyria, Aileen's girlfriend, to elicit a confession. It's a delicate operation but over the phone Aileen eventually agrees to confess. Dr. Michelle Ward explores, with Psychologist Dr. Tasha Jackson, the diminishing emotional state of Aileen in custody, as we hear of her hallucinations from a letter to her best friend, Dawn. In court for the murder of Richard Mallory, Aileen is faced with the ultimate betrayal by her ex-girlfriend Tyria. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Police are investigating the murder of Richard Mallory. He's been shot dead by Aileen Wuornos who he solicited for sex work, but Mallory himself has a violent past. Aileen confides in her girlfriend Tyria about the murder, who is initially shocked. Meanwhile, the police investigation runs cold, but it is only six months until Aileen's next kill. This time, her victim is a construction worker named David Spears. She shoots him not once, but six times in the chest. Dr. Michelle Wards speaks to police investigators from the case about Aileen's escalation to serial killer. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Aileen Wuornos has hitchhiked to sunny Florida, making money through sex work along the highways before meeting a millionaire yacht club president, whom she marries in 1976. But her chance at happiness is short lived and the marriage is annulled. She heads home to Michigan to see her brother, but he soon dies of cancer. Aileen is heartbroken and attempts suicide. Returning to Florida, Aileen meets the love of her life, Tyria. But Dr. Michelle Ward hears how sex work is still Aileen's only way of making money and it leads her to her first murder, Richard Mallory in 1989. Hosted on Acast. Aileen Wuornos was born into misfortune. Her young biological parents found themselves in constant trouble and ultimately abandoned her, leaving her to fend for herself with her abusive grandparents. Her life would continue in a downward spiral, culminating in the murder of Richard Mallory. Tune in to this episode to hear all the GRIMM details.
In January 1992, Aileen Wuornos, a sex worker, stood trial for the murder of 52-year-old Richard Mallory, who'd picked her up when she was hitch-hiking. When she was intially interviewed by police, Wuornos said she shot Mallory because he threatened to rape her. However, at trial, her testimony about the incident was much more graphic and disturbing. At this time, she'd confessed to murdering six men in addition to Mallory, all in self-defense (in fact, Mallory had a prior conviction for sexual abuse, but this fact was not allowed into evidence). To law enforcement and the state's attorney, Wuornos gave a number of inconsistent versions of events; her attorneys discouraged her from testifying in court, but she insisted on taking the stand. Her account fell apart under close questioning, especially after her longtime girlfriend, Tyria Moore, took a deal and testified against her. On Jan. 27, 1992, she was found guilty of first-degree murder. Four days later, she was sentenced to death. Wuornos was executed in October 2002.

Aileen was now a killer, her first victim Richard Mallory dead from multiple gunshot wounds, and now she has found a better way at robbing these men... kill them first- she claims self-defense in each and every victim's case but not all were out to rape and beat her. PTSD can make the mind see and hear completely different things than what is actually going on- for Lee the repeated rapes she suffered came to a head and burst into an uncontrolled burning rage within Lee. Triggered possibly by finding herself alone with a man in the woods and her fight or flight response kicked in causing her to take the lives of David Spears, Charles "Chuck" Carskaddon, and Peter Siems but she wouldn't stop at just these men... she was going to keep killing and keep robbing them until one beat her to death or until the cops figured her out... Aileen and Ty meeting created tsunamis in their life together, they both loved each other (Lee would later say like sisters, however, Ty had been introduced as Lee's Wife on more than one occasion) but never the less these two were virtually inseparable from June of 1986 into 1991 when Lee would be arrested for the murder of 7 men and faced the electric chair for her crimes. Lee desperate for love and acceptance turned her to the only person she could trust, Tyria. Lee did anything and everything to make sure Ty stayed in her life, even killing in order to support their dream bubble for as long as possible, and a wrong-place, wrong-time scenario landed Richard Mallory in a chance encounter with an angry Lee who claims to have acted in self-defense when the sex-crazed Richard went rouge and decided to rape her... per her side of the story... This bonus episode is about Aileen "Lee" Carol Wuornos, America's first female serial killer... Wuornos confessed to the murder of all six men, claiming that she was picked up by the men when she was working as a highway prostitute, and shot them in self defense after they attempted to sexually assault her. Wuornos was convicted of the murder of Richard Mallory after a jury trial in Volusia County and was sentenced to death. At trial, the State was allowed to introduce similar crimes evidence about Wuornos' commission of several other murders. While on death row, it was discovered that Mallory had previously served time for Attempted Rape. Wuornos pleaded no contest to the murders of the other 5 men and was sentenced to death in each case. **DISCLAIMER** I am not the owner of the rights to the audio that was recorded for this podcast. Cheers! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Aileen Wuornos was born on 2/29/1956 as Aileen Carol Pittman. Her mom was only 14 years old when she married Aileen’s father, Leo Dale Pittman. She never met her dad, he was in jail when she was born, having been convicted of sexual acts against children. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and hung himself in prison. When she was four her mom abandoned her and her older brother with her grandparents. While she lived with them she was beaten and sexually abused by her grandfather. She became sexually active at age 11. At age 14 she was raped and became pregnant. She was sent to a home for unwed mothers where she gave birth to a son. He was adopted and she never saw him again. She was thrown out of the house at 15 and became a prostitute. At 18 she was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), disorderly conduct, and firing a .22-caliber pistol from a moving vehicle. She was later charged with failure to appear in court. At 20, she hitchhiked to Florida and married a 69-year-old man named Lewis Fell. It was annulled after 9 weeks because he didn’t like that she went to bars and got into fights. On July 17 of that year her brother Keith died of esophageal cancer and she received $10,000 from his life insurance. The money quickly ran out, she spent it on expense cars and other things. She went back to being a prostitute and, a decade later, she met Tyria Moore at a Daytona gay bar in 1986, and the 2 started dating. Some sources say they had a good relationship and Tyria was her partner in crime others say it was rocky. Aileen began murdering in 1989, killing Richard Mallory on November 30th. He was a convicted rapist she she later claimed it was self defense. He, like all of her victims, was a john. His car was found two days later and his body wasn’t found until December 13th. On June 1st 1990 she killed David Spears. His nude body was found along Florida State Road 19 in Citrus County. He had been shot six times. The next victim was Charles Carskaddon. He was killed on May 31, 1990. His body was found on June 6, 1990 in Pasco County. He had been shot nine times with a small-caliber weapon. The fourth was Peter Siems. On July 4, 1990, his car was found in Orange Springs, Florida. Moore and Wuornos were seen abandoning the car, and Wuornos' palm print was found on the interior door handle. His body was never found. The fifth was Troy Burress. On July 31, 1990, he was reported missing. On August 4, 1990, his body was found in a wooded area along State Road 19 in Marion County. He had been shot twice. Her sixth victim was Charles "Dick" Humphreys. On September 12, 1990, his body was found in Marion County. He was fully clothed and had been shot six times in the head and torso. His car was found in Suwannee County. Her final victim was Walter Jeno Antonio. On November 19, 1990, Antonio's nearly nude body was found near a remote logging road in Dixie County. He had been shot four times. Five days later, his car was found in Brevard County. On July 4, 1990, Wuornos and Moore abandoned Siems’ car after they were involved in an accident. Witnesses saw them leave the car and gave police their names. This began a media campaign to find the two women. The police also found items from the victims in pawn shops with prints that matched the prints lifted from the victims car. Wuornos was in the FL system, making it easy to identify her prints. On January 9, 1991 Wuornos was arrested on an outstanding warrant at a biker bar in Volusia County. The next day, police found Moore in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She agreed to help obtain a confession from Wuornos in exchange for immunity. A phone call with Moore lead to Wuornos’ confession on January 16, 1991. In January of 1992 she went to trial for killing Mallory and the judge allowed evidence of the other 6 murders to be presented. She was found guilty and sentenced to death. The same followed for the other murders. No charges were filed against her for Siem since his b
