Informal criminal profiling can be traced as far back as the Middle Ages when inquisitors attempted profiling heretics. It has been officially traced to the 1880s during the Jack the Ripper case. Profiling is described as a method of suspect identification, which seeks to identify a person’s mental, emotional, and personality characteristics based on things done or left at the crime scene, or “Behavior reflects personality.” We cover: HistoryDevelopmentProcessUse in the BTK CaseJoin us on our website https://www.truecrimelabpod.com/ Connect with us on Social Media! - Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/truecrimelabpod/ - Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetclpodcast - Gmail: truecrimelabpod@gmail.comSources: (nd). Of all the clinical disorders in the world none is more famous than psychopathy. They are a perfect stock villain for movies capable of being an unfeeling thug, a sadistic serial killer or Machiavellian mastermind all on a writer’s whim. How close does that get to the actual reality? Popular culture has plenty to say about psychopaths with movies, tv shows, documentaries and plenty of books which tell you all you would ever want to know but have you ever listened to a bona fide expert cut through the myths? This episode brings psychopathy expert Stephane de Brito to the microphone to go through the myths and realities of psychopaths. We also go into how psychopathy cannot be seen in children nor how merely being anti-social to the point of violence is enough either. Want to know more, then download and get ready for psychology on psychopathy and conduct disorder. This episode even ends with a grisly tale. The Question for today: “What is the difference between bipolar and borderline personality disorder?” The following from the National Institute of Mental Health Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD): Borderline personality disorder is a mental illness marked by an ongoing pattern of varying moods, self-image, and behavior. These symptoms often result in impulsive actions and problems in relationships. People with borderline personality disorder may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that can last from a few hours to days. Bipolar Disorder: Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out day-to-day tasks. There are four basic types of bipolar disorder; all of them involve clear changes in mood, energy, and activity levels. These moods range from periods of extremely “up,” elated, and energized behavior (known as manic episodes) to very sad, “down,” or hopeless periods (known as depressive episodes). Less severe manic periods are known as hypomanic episodes. Music used in this episode is the song Irresistible by Sweet N Juicy from the Free Music Archive. CIT ECHO Session on Introduction to the criminal psychology of serial killers Detective Ben Melendrez gives a talk covering the basic understanding of criminal psychology as it pertains to serial killers. Season 1, Episode 2: Psychopathy   In this episode we discuss psychopathy. You would never know given all the attention psychopathy receives that it only occurs in 1% of males in the general population. Cleckley and others have explained psychopathy as being a personality disorder defined by a constellation of characteristics occurring on the interpersonal, affective, and lifestyle levels. There is considerable confusion regarding the construct given its history and its common, if not pejorative use of the label. In this episode, we will explore its history and its relationship to a now forgotten medical condition known as moral insanity.
