After a tragic childhood, Aileen was living on the streets by age fourteen. From that point forward all she really knew was drinking, drugging, grifting and hooking. When she met Tyria Moore, Aileen hoped to settle down in a place of their own. However, she would go to great lengths to make ends meet and keep Tyria. From 1989 to 1990, Aileen killed seven men by hitchhiking and receiving rides from them under a false pretense or in some cases engaging in prostitution. She then shot each of them and stole anything of value. Eventually, she was caught, convicted and sentenced to death. Questions still remain as she had sworn from the beginning that she killed in self defense. However, on the day of her execution, she asked for one last interview where she said she needed to confess and then claimed not a single one had been in self defense. Tune in as Savannah attempts to give the facts with insight as to why Aileen may have suddenly changed her story. Meanwhile, Elysia tries to think of anything at all to say other than "yeah", "oh my god", and "I don't know about that". Don't forget to leave us the weekly emoji! Find us on Instagram and Facebook! It's just about time for National Moth Week! In this episode we talk about Producer Derek's favorite moth: the cinnabar moth (Tyria jacobaeae). Finally, a rival for Isabella Tigermoth. And this moth isn't alone in her fight against the noxious Stinking Willie; her fellow biocontrol agents include the tansy ragwort flea beetle (Longitarsus jacobaeae) and the ragwort seed head fly (Botanophila seneciella). This moth and her team are basically Superman, but for cows. Tangents include Animorphs, Spider-verse, being a goth kid, and John Wick. Aileen Wuornos has been captured, her killing spree at an end, but her arrest is only on an outstanding warrant. Police need evidence to prove her guilt and they persuade Tyria, Aileen's girlfriend, to elicit a confession. It's a delicate operation but over the phone Aileen eventually agrees to confess. Dr. Michelle Ward explores, with Psychologist Dr. Tasha Jackson, the diminishing emotional state of Aileen in custody, as we hear of her hallucinations from a letter to her best friend, Dawn. In court for the murder of Richard Mallory, Aileen is faced with the ultimate betrayal by her ex-girlfriend Tyria. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Police are investigating the murder of Richard Mallory. He's been shot dead by Aileen Wuornos who he solicited for sex work, but Mallory himself has a violent past. Aileen confides in her girlfriend Tyria about the murder, who is initially shocked. Meanwhile, the police investigation runs cold, but it is only six months until Aileen's next kill. This time, her victim is a construction worker named David Spears. She shoots him not once, but six times in the chest. Dr. Michelle Wards speaks to police investigators from the case about Aileen's escalation to serial killer. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Aileen Wuornos has hitchhiked to sunny Florida, making money through sex work along the highways before meeting a millionaire yacht club president, whom she marries in 1976. But her chance at happiness is short lived and the marriage is annulled. She heads home to Michigan to see her brother, but he soon dies of cancer. Aileen is heartbroken and attempts suicide. Returning to Florida, Aileen meets the love of her life, Tyria. But Dr. Michelle Ward hears how sex work is still Aileen's only way of making money and it leads her to her first murder, Richard Mallory in 1989. Hosted on Acast. Das Halloween-Event ist nach Tyria zurückgekehrt. Im GuildNews Podcast Nr. 459 gruseln sich Sky und Durzan vor dem verrückten König und diskutieren mit euch über das kommende Extra Life Event.
Aileen has always hated men. She was abused by her grandfather as a child then grew up to be a sex worker and suffered more abuse from men. She thought there was no hope of love for her, until she meets the love of her life Tyria Moore. Tyria and Aileen went from romantic partners to partners in crime. Aileen would use sex work as a way to lure men in, kill them, and take all their things. Leaving Tyria to pawn everything off. But when their love is put to the test in an interrogation room for the murder of 7 men, which one will crack under the pressure? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Der Turm der Alpträume ist nach Tyria zurückgekehrt. Unsere Moderatoren Sky und Durzan stellen sich ihm und diskutieren mit euch auch über alle Änderungen, die er gebracht hat.
Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons is the third expansion for Guild Wars 2. It brings us to Cantha, a mysterious continent far south across the Unending Sea, and brings with it fishing, skiffs, and a new jade-powered friend. End of Dragons features the final confrontation with the Elder Dragons of Tyria, and begs the question: what's next?
Aileen and Ty meeting created tsunamis in their life together, they both loved each other (Lee would later say like sisters, however, Ty had been introduced as Lee's Wife on more than one occasion) but never the less these two were virtually inseparable from June of 1986 into 1991 when Lee would be arrested for the murder of 7 men and faced the electric chair for her crimes. Lee desperate for love and acceptance turned her to the only person she could trust, Tyria. Lee did anything and everything to make sure Ty stayed in her life, even killing in order to support their dream bubble for as long as possible, and a wrong-place, wrong-time scenario landed Richard Mallory in a chance encounter with an angry Lee who claims to have acted in self-defense when the sex-crazed Richard went rouge and decided to rape her... per her side of the story... Nature may be red in tooth and claw. But one plucky caterpillar dresses in orange and black to avoid becoming somebody's lunch. What's really surprising, though, is that this distinctive set of stripes can serve as both a warning or as camouflage, depending on how far away it is from the viewer.Animals can deploy color as a defense mechanism in a couple of ways. Some shades and patterns help potential prey blend into the background. Whereas bold markings often serve as a signal that an animal is unpalatable—for example, chock full o' toxins.“So, these two strategies have often been considered in isolation and often seen as mutually exclusive and alternative mechanisms. But under natural conditions you find this distinction is less clear cut.”Jim Barnett of the University of Bristol, who led the study to explore whether the same coloration might do double duty, allowing an animal to be obvious under some conditions but unseen in others. They focused their attention on the caterpillars of cinnabar moths. These larvae sport bright orange and black stripes. Their vivid appearance was believed to remind the birds who may have eaten others of their kind that they are none too tasty, thanks to their diet of alkaloid-rich ragwort plants. The researchers snapped photos of the caterpillars in suburban green spaces around Bristol. And they used a visual modeling program to give them a “bird's-eye view” of what the caterpillars look like, either close-up or from farther away.“And what we found is that although at close range the caterpillar's stripes are highly conspicuous—these bright colors distinguish it quite easily from its ragwort background—but when viewed from a distance they blend together to form a color which is actually quite difficult to discern from the background color. So, what we think is going on is that the caterpillar is getting the best of both worlds.”Close up, the stripes say keep your distance. But from a distance, they allow the caterpillars to hide in plain sight. The results can be seen in the journal Royal Society Open Science. [James B. Barnett, Innes C. Cuthill, Nicholas E. Scott-Samuel, Distance-dependent aposematism and camouflage in the cinnabar moth caterpillar (Tyria jacobaeae, Erebidae)]The finding is a reminder: Don't forget to step back and see things from a different perspective.—Karen Hopkin[The above text is a transcript of this podcast.]
GuildCast looks over the WintersDay event and chats on the successes and shortcomings of ArenaNet's implementation. Also the latest patch is discussed.
ArenaNet gives a schedule for the Guild Wars 2 WintersDay celebration and releases a trailer to preview the snowy wonder.
GuildCast looks at the recent NCSoft announcement of a "realignment" at their Seattle office. Also Guild Wars 2 will be having a lot of new content introduced in the next few months.
Feeling lucky? If you're one of the many people who have been buying Black Lion keys, then probably not. The low drop rate and dice rolling of RNG has meant some people have blown a whole lot of cash in the gem store to end up with not a lot in the way of Halloween goodies. Did you get a chainsaw sword skin on your first try? If so, don't mention it to Elisabeth. We look at the controversy and whether the response by ArenaNet is up to par. Whether this aspect of the festivities has left you pulling your hair out, there's no doubt there's a lot of content strewn across Tyria to sink your sweet tooth into. We talk about just what is available and whether we're getting indigestion from all the candy corn -- seriously, does anyone actually eat that vile stuff? Patch notes arrive with the regularity of Gary's troll videos and this week is no exception -- in either case. Karma rewards were added. Is this a good thing? Is the dance I just had to do at the mere mention of it an indication? There's a skritt burgular on the loose. Yes, a burgular. Don't ask questions. Before we get lost in theft and too many vowels, we talk about just what has landed in Guild Wars 2 with this new patch beyond all the spooky goings on. Class tweaks and changes have arrived, particularly for all you Elementalists out there. Guardian's also saw some adjustments, will I explode into a fiery rage? It is Wednesday after all... Throw in viewer questions and that's a whole lot of show to take care of. Joining GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon are Richie Procopio, Massively's Elisabeth Cardy and ZAM's Scott Hawkes for a troll dancing episode of GuildCast!
Only one more GuildCast until launch! After this one that is. We're drawing ever closer to headstart and thoughts lead us to what we will be doing at that highly anticipated moment. Will you be packing your loved ones onto a bus tour for a week? Will you be unleashing that long stored up illness -- after the mad race to get to the manager's office before the rest of your suddenly sick colleagues? Or will you be here watching us crazy folk entertain you with our own fevered anticipation? In any case, better be sure on your times because ArenaNet let slip that we might be running amok in Tyria just a little earlier than we thought... The server list is up! Where will you be going for launch? How important is it that the official list is finally available for all to peruse? Do I seem to be asking more questions than usual? I'll calm down now. Oh Blizzard, you sly dog. In a move that shocked the world -- the world being Mars and even Curiosity knew this one was coming -- the pre-expansion Patch 5.0.4 for Mists of Pandaria is being released on the same day as Guild Wars 2's official launch: August 28. Will this hinder Guild Wars 2's thunderous opening? We ponder the possibilities. You want stress tests? We got stress tests! It feels like Guild Wars 2 has been stressed more than my belt after a pizza buffet in the last week or so. We talk about our experiences. And with that we come to our selection of audience questions. Thank you for sending them in and sorry that we can't get to them all. Keeping it together -- barely -- are GAMEBREAKER's mighty Gary Gannon, Massively's inimitable Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and awe-inspiring Elisabeth Cardy, as well as ZAM.com's barely sane Scott Hawkes. Are you ready? Well we certainly are, it's this week's GuildCast!
Do you like parkour and walking over hot coals? If so, then the live action launch trailer that ArenaNet released for Guild Wars 2 must have been very pleasing for you. To say reactions have been mixed to the promo is a massive understatement. What did the GuildCast crew think of the video and the response to it? We've got patch notes! Yes this means Guild Wars 2 is just like many other MMOs in that respect -- even the ones you pay a monthly sub for -- in that fixes and tweaks continue on with the regularity of a metronome. Guardians were adjusted -- Scott tries not to cry -- as were a few other professions, but who cares? They're not Guardians. All kidding aside, we look at what changes were made, including the exploit-crushing limitation on glory. Now you get a shiny achievement when you hit the cap, but just what good are achievements anyway? You can craft straight from the collections tab in your bank. How much does that rock? It rocks a lot. With discovery soon to be added to the bank/tradeskill magic we talk about the crafting system as a whole and how it contrasts to those in other MMOs. No longer can you buy your butter with Karma, now it drops as easy as it spreads with Sohothin. Are you swimming in butter? And where do you keep it? Apparently there's some myths to be busted. The forums are fully fleshed out and open for business. Are they up to the standard we would expect from ArenaNet? We also have your viewer questions to round off another intriguing week in Tyria. Join GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, Massively's Elisabeth Cardy and Richie "Bogotter" Procopio -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY -- along with ZAM's Scott Hawkes for this week's GuildCast!
The first full week is done, where does the game stand? Orr is apparently untroubled by our crew of misfits, with PAX — and its many odors — getting in the way for half of the team, just what levels have they reached? The Trading Post exists — see, told you it did — and is finally up and running for everyone to use. Just how good is it? Was it worth the wait? We talk about some of the fun things you can do with the Trading Post in Guild Wars 2 and how we think it stacks up.
The three little words that Guild Wars 2 fans are happy to hear: "Two more days." Amazingly, this is the very final GuildCast... before launch -- sorry couldn't resist -- and there's plenty to chew on. A mighty six hour stress test went on yesterday. The two hour extension being a pleasant bonus for many, particularly as there was a bunch of new stuff to play around with. How did your stress test go? Players everywhere became dancing, dancing, dancing machines with the new emotes. From the Haka to the LMFAO dance, characters could be seen getting down with their bad selves all across Tyria. Was it a nimble-footed phenomenon? Or were pairs of two left feet being stomped on? There was also the awesome reveal that the watery fourth sPvP was up and running. What did the gang think of the combative addition? The Twilight Arbor was unveiled thanks to a recent PC Gamer video, mild spoilers were present for the ongoing story of Destiny's Edge -- Logan and Rytlock sitting in a tree, W H I N I N G --and we got a look at what to expect in the level 50 dungeon. Does it look as impressive as the Ascalonian Catacombs? We have a happy bunch of viewer's questions to answer, in addition to all our musings on the last week. Filling in the boxes we have GAMEBREAKER's Gary Gannon, the repository of precociousness Richie "Bogotter" Procopio and the definition of effortless elan Elisabeth Cardy -- both of Massively -- for this week's GuildCast!
