#NCAA #MarchMadness #Gonzaga #Baylor #Stanford #Arizona #NBA #NFL #UFC We capped a great Easter long weekend off with a great podcast episode breaking down the fantastic weekend of sports! The most exciting moment of the weekend was the instant classic game in the NCAA college basketball semi final game between the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the UCLA Bruins. The score was close for the entire game with no team leading by more than six points. With the game in overtime UCLA hit a basket to tie it up at 90 with 3.3 seconds left when the ball was inbounded to Jalen Suggs. The Gonzaga guard ran down the floor and hoisted the ball up just past half and the ball banked off the glass and through the hoop to continue the undefeated season for the #1 team in the nation with the 93-90 victory. The shot propeled the Zags to the final against Baylor who has been the consensus #2 team in the nation this season. This has all the makings of an epic titanic battle for supremacy between the two best programs in 2021. The womens NCAA basketball tournament was finished on Easter Sunday April 4th and was a huge ratings success. The final game featured the Stanford Cardinal facing the Arizona Wildcats and was another really close and tight battle right until the end. Stanford won the National Championship for the first time in 29 years with a 54 to 53 win that went down to the final seconds. This was a great and fun tournament and has greatly increased the popularity of the womens game with a lot of close games throughout. The conversation switched to the NBA and we broke down a lot of the top stories that emerged over the last few days or week in the league. We briefly mentioned the NFL and the big trade of Sam Darnold the Jets QB to the Carolina Panthers for three draft picks. This will open up New York to draft a top college QB in the draft #2 overall. There was no UFC card this weekend but we looked ahead to next Saturdays card and the new addition of Kevin Holland replacing Darren Till in the main event against Marvin Vettori. The UFC has put together a trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier for July. The much anticpated announcement for Francis Ngannou's first title defense of his Heavyweight belt has hit some contract difficulites and has dominated the UFC news this week. The majority of fans and media are clamoring for a huge clash with Jon "Bones" Jones but has hit big snags because of compensation and lack of money offered to the challenger. Watch and listen to our takes on the negotiations. Please support our partners and sponsors by going to our website www.completesportsmedia.com you can purchase products at reduced rates. Today is Electoral College Day which normally is a footnote in the news, but today is a major story.  We discuss some of the election chaos and fake news, but also question the necessity of the Electoral College in the 21st Century.  Then we shift gears and discuss local issues with Poway Unified School District’s need to borrow money.  While discussing Poway Unified, we also pay tribute to outgoing board member Kimberley Beatty and the good work she has done in our community.  Finally, we discuss the Cleveland Indians decision to drop their mascot name and the impact this will have on other sports teams to change their names as well. We discuss so many people and places including Festivus, Pledge of Allegiance, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, George HW Bush, George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Ross Perot, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Michelle O’Connor-Ratcliff, USA Today, Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Reds, Stanford Cardinal, Alcatraz, Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Chiefs, Golden State Warriors, Chicago Blackhawks, San Diego State Aztecs, San Diego Padres, Las Vegas Raiders. Closing Quote: "All-or-nothing systems disenfranchise millions of voters and prompt campaigns to focus solely on closely contested states. This year, the candidates are ignoring two-thirds of the states because all of the electoral votes in each appear safely in one or the other's camp. So certain an outcome discourages turnout in those states as well.  Though the system dates back to the 19th century under laws adopted by each state, it doesn't have to be that way. Certainly, the U.S. Constitution doesn't require it." USA Today USA Today.  (19 Sept 2004).  Editorial/Opinion.  "States can make Electoral College more democratic."     #JohnRileyProject #ElectoralCollegeDay #ClevelandBaseballTeam #PowayUnified   JRP0194   Referenced Links:   Poway Unified Considers Borrowing at least $20 Million during State Funding Deferral https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/pomerado-news/news/schools/story/2020-12-11/poway-unified-to-borrow-20-million-in-loans-during-state-funding-deferral   John Riley Project Info:   Bookings? Washington receiver Ty Jones, linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio, and Head Coach Jimmy Lake spoke to the media after their 31-26 loss Saturday afternoon to the Stanford Cardinal at Husky Stadium, and you could tell the loss - the first of the season for the Huskies - was going to be one that might take just a little bit longer than 24 hours to absorb. In fact, the UW coaches may want to allow this one to sting just a little bit longer to make sure the lessons were learned. And they were hard lessons too. Whether talking about execution in all three phases of the game; from another slow start, to not being able to run between the tackles, to not being able to stop the run and get off the field on third down, to giving up big returns in the kicking game and also a blocked extra point - there’s going to be a lot of film study the Huskies can use to grow and get better. But they still had their opportunities to come back from another 24-point halftime deficit, and almost made it happen. But the Cardinal made plays on both sides of the ball in the moments that mattered to keep the Huskies at bay. Jones talked about not having teammates Terrell Bynum and Puka Nacua there today, as well as the big day for freshman Rome Odunze. Ulofoshio’s frustration was evident as he talked about the things he felt they didn’t execute that could have spelled the difference in the game. And Coach Lake was asked about the slow start, but couldn’t pin-point any one thing that stood out that would have given him pause during pre-game. He was also asked about energy being an issue, the growth of players like Zion Tupuola-Fetui and getting more pressure to get Stanford QB Davis Mills off his spot. Did he think the hold call on M.J. Ale was legit, the one that cost UW a chance to potentially tie the game in the fourth quarter? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
