The Gonzales family were a prominent, Philippine-Australian family that resided in New South Wales, Sydney. They immigrated from Baguio, Philippines after the Luzon earthquake of 1990 destroyed their home and business. Teodoro, AKA Teddy, and his wife, Mary Loiva, had two children together, Sef and Clodine. Teddy and Loiva worked hard to build a life of success for their family, so they had high expectations of their children when it came to their education. Teddy and Loiva were especially proud of their eldest son, Sef, who was doing extremely well in his classes at Macquarie University, where he decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and studied law. Teddy had hoped that he'd someday be able to leave his law firm in the hands of his son. July 10, 2001 had started out like any other day for the Gonzales family, but at 11:48pm that night, New South Wales ambulance dispatch would receive a frantic call from Sef Gonzales, exclaiming that his family had been murdered in their home. On July 10, 2001, a Filipino family of three was found murdered inside their residence in North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia. Initial reports suggest that the crime was racially motivated. However, further investigations say otherwise and their findings would later on shock the entire country that was almost fooled by the killer. The case was already complicated from the very start, as they had no other witnesses aside from Sef Gonzales' (the only living member of the Gonzales family) testimony. In July 2001, Filipino immigrants Teddy and Mary Gonzales, along with their daughter Clodine, were massacred inside their home in New South Wales, Australia. Twenty-year old Sef Gonzales, the family's only survivor, initially played the part of the grieving son and publicly appealed for information about his family's killer, only for evidence to reveal later that he was the killer all along. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In part 2, we pick up the story of Sef Gonzales after his parents and sister Clodine had been brutally murdered. At this time, Australia was united with Sef in grief. His bizarre rendition of Mariah Carey's One Sweet Day was the first hint of something odd afoot. 12 months, 2 flimsy alibis, a record deal and a web of lies later, Sef was arrested for the triple homicide. In the closing episode we explore what lead this imaginative young man to snap, and the bizarre reality he seemed to inhabit. And what is the link with flat eath theory... nothing but we discuss that as well.

The boys open up this episode, refreshed from a break, with Rev's tale of a unique catch up in Bali. We also go back to 2001 where Australia was united with Sef Gonzales in grief after his parents and sister, Clodine were brutally murdered in their suburban home. We take a look at who the Gonzales' were, their migration to Australia and the events leading up to the horrors that would occur on 10 July 2001. We start the impossible task of unpacking the complex character that is Sef Gonzales and see how his partiality for stretching the truth would get him in trouble over and over. And while the musical ability that he kindly shared through his a cappella band Definite Vibez was questionable, one thing is for certain, he definitely had a darker side. Find out where this would lead him on the first of a two part series - SEF GONZALES PT 1.
