Today, the Two Mikes had a quick discussion with Dr. Salvatore Giorgianni Dr. Giorgianni is a Practicing Clinical Pharmacist and the Senior Science Adviser to the Mens' Health Network. he focused his presentation on the ongoing debate in the medical community about whether obesity -- in men and women -- is a medical problem or a lifestyle problem. He said there are medicines that will help those with diabetes, lung disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, but all of those illnesses also require changes in the lifestyle of the patients who suffer from one or more of them. On obesity, however, the above-noted argument continues at full throttle with the stop-eating bad things team going at it with the team that advocates developing a medicine that will help as people change their lifestyles. This status quo is not working, and simply maintaining an obese lifestyle can lead to nothing but increasingly poor health, especially in men. For example, Dr. Giorgianni said that men tend to live sicker lives than women, and are dying on average six years sooner than women. Until a helpful medicine comes along, he said, "what it comes down to is what and how much you eat, what you don't eat, what you do to regularly exercise, and what you do to keep everything in moderation." No medicine can turn the trick, however, without the individual's lifestyle changes to accompany it. MEN'S HEALTH Expert: Dr. Salvatore J. A new working paper from Johns Hopkins University claims that COVID-19 lockdowns imposed by a variety of governments worldwide had “little to no effect” on COVID-19 mortality. The study, published by the Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise conducted and by three professors from around the world, also found that lockdowns “imposed enormous economic and social costs” and are “ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument.”

MEN'S HEALTH EXPERT: Dr. Salvatore J. Giorgianni, Jr., PharmD. is Senior Science Adviser to the Men's Health Network and a Past-Chair/Chair-Emeritus of the American Public Health Association and former Alumni Association Board Member of Columbia University School of Public Health. LEGAL ANALYST/AUTHOR: John O'Connor, is author of Postgate: How the Washington Post Betrayed Deep Throat, Covered Up Watergate, and Began Today's Partisan Advocacy Journalism and host of The Mysteries of Watergate Podcast. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Northern California representing the United States in both criminal and civil cases. TALK TO DEEP THROAT'S LAWYER! Deep Throat's lawyer discovers the Washington Post betrayed his client—while covering up the real truth about the Watergate scandal. The conventional wisdom of Watergate is turned on its head by Postgate, revealing that the Post did not uncover Watergate as much as it covered it up. The Nixon Administration, itself involved in a coverup, was the victim of a journalistic smoke-screen that prevented mitigation of its criminal guilt. As a result of the paper's successful misdirection, today's strikingly deceptive partisan journalism can be laid at the doorstep of the Washington Post. After Deep Throat's lawyer, author John O'Connor, discovered that the Post had betrayed his client while covering up the truth about Watergate, his indefatigable research resulted in Postgate, a profoundly shocking tale of journalistic deceit. In an era when numerous modern media outlets rail about the guilt of their political enemies for speaking untruths, Postgate proves that the media can often credibly be viewed as the party actually guilty of deception. Americans today mistrust the major media more than ever. Postgate will prove that this distrust is richly deserved. PLUG BOOK: Postgate: How the Washington Post Betrayed Deep Throat, Covered Up Watergate, and Began Today's Partisan Advocacy Journalism BIO: John O'Connor is an experienced trial lawyer, practicing law in San Francisco since 1972. He has tried cases in state and federal court throughout the country. He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Northern California from 1974-1979, representing the United States in both criminal and civil cases. Among his interesting assignments have been representation of the government during the OPEC oil embargo of the 1970s; writing Fifth Amendment and “state of mind” briefs for the prosecution in United States v. JUNE IS MEN'S HEALTH MONTH ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: PRESSURE BUILDS TO DROP MASK MANDATE ON PLANES... Wearing mask may go from symbol of responsibility to vulnerability... For Many Workers, Change in Mask Policy Is Nightmare... WHY MASK WARS MAY NEVER END... June is Men's Health Month, a time to encourage boys and men to take charge of their overall health by making healthier lifestyle and wellness choices. This year, as the country is slowly beginning to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial that men keep up a healthy regime by getting regular checkups and ensuring that their healthcare choices account for the risks associated with their age, ethnicity, family history, and lifestyle. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in the United States, men on average die five years earlier than women and at higher rates from three leading causes of death—heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injuries. Additionally, nearly 15 percent of men aged 18 and over are in fair or poor health. This year, in support of Men's Health Month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) will focus on promoting the Six Plays for Men's Health to remind men and boys that they can improve their health by seeking medical advice and taking other important steps, such as making healthy food choices, staying active, quitting smoking, getting regular checkups, taking care of their mental health, and being #VaccineReady—which includes getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Anyone can text their zip code to 438829 to get vaccination locations near them. For vaccine information in Spanish, text your zip code to 822862. On June 18, OMH will join the Men's Health Network to celebrate Wear Blue Day as part of the year-round Wear BLUE awareness campaign to raise awareness for education about men's health. Visit our Men's Health Month webpage, available in English and Spanish, to learn more about the Six Plays for Men's Health, and access shareable graphics and social media messaging as well as other men's health-related resources.
