Dans leur nouveau spectacle Combustions, le collectif Les souffleurs commandos poétiques nous embarque dans un flot de sentiments et de mots.  Le collectif des Souffleurs, fondé en 2001 par le comédien Olivier Comte, est une troupe unique en son genre. Aujourd'hui, elle rassemble 29 comédiens français et 38 comédiens du théâtre Kasé à Tokyo, créant un pont artistique entre la France et le Japon. Le collectif dispose de plusieurs lieux emblématiques : un espace à Aubervilliers, un centre à Tokyo, ainsi qu'un décor insolite niché dans les « Alpes japonaises ». Ralentir le monde  Leur ambition est de « transformer le monde » en le ralentissant, mais aussi de « partager un moment avec la littérature ». Ils se définissent comme des souffleurs, des passeurs d'émotions qui « soufflent l'âme » et « injectent de la poésie dans les territoires, les vies et les oreilles ». Leur outil, ce sont les « rossignols », de longues cannes creuses en bois, qu'ils utilisent pour murmurer des mots à l'oreille des passants, offrant une expérience intime et poétique. Ils exécutent des performances qui ne se déroulent pas systématiquement en salle, mais aussi beaucoup à l'extérieur, en régions. « On écrit sur mesure, c'est toujours totalement différent. On se rend souvent dans les cafés, qui sont l'espace public n°2. » Combustions : parler d'amour dans un monde en déglingue  Dans leur nouveau spectacle Combustions, en chansons et en poèmes, Les souffleurs clament l'amour, la passion, le désir, mais aussi le sexe et l'amour charnel.  Mais pourquoi parler d'amour alors que le monde est en incendie généralisé ? Pour ralentir le monde, ne suffit-il pas juste d'être en avance d'une seconde sur le monde. Des lettres qui embrasent Ils puisent dans les correspondances et lettres de Rimbaud, Arthur Miller, Édith Piaf, Victor Hugo ou encore Virginia Woolf. « La lettre donne accès à une littérature particulière car elle n'est pas destinée à être lue par tout le monde, surtout quand il s'agit d'une lettre d'amour. Cette littérature qui crie le manque est brûlante », explique Julia Loyez.  On y entend aussi la correspondance de Victoria, femme ukrainienne exilée en France, et de son mari, Pablo resté sur le front en Ukraine. 2nd Commando Regiment veterans, friends and family share their memories of the late Tim Aplin. Life on the Line tracks down Australian military veterans and records their stories. Private Timothy Aplin was serving with the Special Operations Task Group when he tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash, on Monday 21 June 2010. Scott Palmer, Ben Chuck and a US serviceman also lost their lives in the crash, and many more were grievously injured. The thirty-eight-year-old Tim was from the Sydney-based 2nd Commando Regiment. Tim Aplin has been mentioned before on this podcast by his fellow Commandos who remember him fondly. In this special tribute episode we remember one of our fallen. This podcast contains stories, reflections and tributes from Tim's family, friends and brothers-in-arms. Churchill's Spaniards: The Spanish Republicans Who Fought for Britain in WWII — with Sean F. Scullion In this episode, I speak with historian Sean F. Scullion, author of Churchill's Spaniards, about a remarkable and little-known story: the Spanish Republicans who escaped the fall of the Second Republic, endured internment under Vichy France, and later volunteered to fight in the British Army against fascism from 1940 to 1945. Drawing on multi-lingual archival work and over 110 family interviews, Scullion reconstructs the routes these veterans took—from the French Foreign Legion and North African labour camps to the Pioneer Corps, Commandos, SOE, and even the SAS—and explores why many kept fighting despite exile, wounds, and the bitter knowledge that Franco would survive the war.Scullion also discusses his research method (triangulating sources across British, French, and Spanish archives), the challenge of language barriers inside British units, the post-war lives of these men in Britain (including the Spanish Ex-Servicemen's Association and links with trade unions), and the complicated geopolitics surrounding Churchill's efforts to keep Spain out of the war.What we coverWho were “Churchill's Spaniards”? Four 2nd Commando Regiment veterans share their memories of the Battle of Shah Wali Kot. Life on the Line tracks down Australian military veterans and records their stories. Fifteen years ago, over five days in June 2010, in southern Afghanistan, 150 Australian Commandos and SASR soldiers fought and won the Battle of Shah Wali Kot, our largest engagement since Vietnam. For the Commandos, it was one of the toughest fights of their lives. For the SASR, in terms of kill count, it was their greatest battle ever won. For their grit and professionalism, the Commandos received a battle honour. SASR Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith, for his part in the battle, received our nation's highest military honour – the Victoria Cross – becoming an instant household name. In early 1945, the Allies were advancing in Burma after their hard-won victories at Kohima and Imphal. The focus shifted to the Arakan, a region of dense jungle, mangrove swamps, and unforgiving terrain. For the men sent there, disease, supply difficulties, and the monsoon were as formidable as the Japanese defenders. Among the formations deployed was Britain's 3 Commando Brigade, working alongside Indian and West African divisions of XV Corps in a campaign that tested endurance as much as combat skill. In this episode of the WW2 Podcast, I'm joined by military historian Lucy Betteridge-Dyson. Lucy is the author of Jungle Commandos: The Battle for Arakan, Burma 1945, which tells the story of the Commandos who fought in this overlooked theatre, culminating in the ferocious struggle for Hill 170. On this week's podcast, I speak with former US Marine / Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer / DEA Agent Bret Hamilton. Bret served in the US Marine Corps as a commissioned Officer. Bret deployed in the 1 st Gulf War. Bret left the Marines and, still having a willingness to serve, he joined the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Police Department as a Patrol Officer. After a couple of years, Bret applied and was accepted to join the DEA Drug Enforcement Agency. Bret worked undercover and worked throughout the US. In 2009, Bret became a member of the Foreign Deployed Advisory Support Team (FAST). Bret deployed to Afghanistan in 2010; he was promoted to team leader after his first tour. In 2011, Bret deployed for his second tour to Afghanistan, working with Task Group 66. On this deployment, Bret was shot in the ass. After Bret recovered from being shot, he deployed in 2012 for his third and final deployment to Afghanistan. There, he met and worked alongside Heston Russell team commander of November Platoon. Bret continued to work in the DEA and was the Agent in charge in the state of Alabama. Recently, an interview conducted with Journalist Mark Willacy was used in the case against Heston Russell. Willacy changed what Bret said in the interview. Bret actually said he had nothing but high praise for Heston and the Commandos, and they were some of the most professional soldiers he ever served with, not what Willacy stated that he never wanted to work with Commandos and Heston.
