Dr. Burris, who has authored three books on educational equity, has received numerous awards for her leadership, including being named the 2013 New York State High School Principal of the Year. Carol Burris served as principal of South Side High School in the Rockville Centre School District in NY from 2000-2015. Carol received her doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her dissertation on equitable practices in mathematics instruction received the 2003 National Association of Secondary Schools' Principals Middle of the Year Award. Carol serves as a Fellow of the National Education Policy Center and is the co-director of its Schools of Opportunity program.  She authored three books on educational equity. A group of rising South Side High School students will be part of the new Peacemaker Academy here in Fort Wayne that focuses on nonviolence training and conflict resolution. The project, spearheaded by Reverend Angelo Mante, Executive Director of Alive Community Outreach, is in partnership with the Rotary Club of Fort Wayne. WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with Mante and Rotary Club president elect Lynne Gilmore to learn what the program looks like, what they hope to accomplish and how this might impact the cultivation of peace in our community. Dr. John Neidecker was born and raised in New York on Long Island. He has wanted to be a physician from his earliest recollection. He was an athlete and his own experience with injuries led him to pursue a career in Sports Medicine. Knowing this, he decided to obtain his undergraduate degree and certification in athletic training from High Point University. After college he then worked for one year as a certified athletic trainer at South Side High School on Long Island. He then went on to go to medical school in south New Jersey at Rowan University, School of Osteopathic Medicine. He then remained there to complete his residency in family practice and served as chief resident. After residency, he went on to his fellowship at the world famous Cleveland Clinic, working with the Cleveland Indians, Lake Erie Crushers and Oberlin College. After his medical training was complete, Dr. Neidecker went back to south New Jersey to work at the Cooper Bone & Joint Institute where he served as team physician for Rutgers- Camden University, Rowan University and the Philadelphia Wings. (Professional Indoor Lacrosse) One of Dr. Neidecker’s passions is ringside medicine. He is on the board of directors for the Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP), an international non-profit organization, dedicated to health and protection of boxers and mixed martial artists.
