On this episode of Doomer Optimism, Dr. Ashley Colby (@RizomaSchool) has a beautiful chat with Maggie and Mark Samborski, and Steven Morris (@lifesmyth) about the emerging trends in locally-oriented farming and trade. About Maggie Samborski Creating a World-wide Agricultural Revolution. Urban Agriculture Activist & Community Farm Steward, Green Goddesss Sanctuary, Village of Oakview, MO About Steven Morris Steven Morris started his journey into Doomer Optimism in 2011 when during the time of a divorce he stumbled upon 3 of the many early doomer optimist voices: Chris Martenson's Crash Course, John Michael Greer's blog The Archdruid Report, and KMO's C-Realm podcast. These 3 identified the many issues of decline in the world that he could sense but didn't have words for. At the same time they all provided positive possibilities for the future. Steven considers himself an amateur Renaissance Man and Polymath of sorts with a wide variety of interests including, appropriate use of technology, regenerative systems, explorations in consciousness, alternative (sometimes called complementary) currency systems, computer technology, and complex systems. He has worked on multiple award winning independent films, managed warehouse logistics for a small business, run a college radio station and lead ecstatic dance workshops. He is a trained Host for Nora Bateson's People Need People gatherings. He currently generates income from running the audio visual technology behind corporate events and is working with the Commons Engine as the video editor for their upcoming Currency Design for Change Agents master class to be launched this spring. About Dr. Ashley Colby Ashley is an Environmental Sociologist who studied at Washington State University, the department that founded the subdiscipline. She's interested in and passionate about the myriad creative ways in which people are forming new social worlds in resistance to the failures of late capitalism and resultant climate disasters. I am a qualitative researcher so I tend to focus on the informal spaces of innovation. She's the founder of Rizoma Field School and Rizoma Foundation.

What happens when you're massively rich, famous, and rewarded for living a life of over-indulgence?If you're lucky, you awake one day to realize that a life of sex, drugs, rock & roll—a life you were convinced would make you happy—only leaves you empty. You then embark on a Victor Frankl-esque search for meaning that ultimately leads to spiritual awakening and a path towards purpose, self-actualization, and service. This is a story that recurs on this show in many forms.Today's version of that story comes in the shape of Adrian Grenier. You know Adrian as an actor—he's appeared in many films and television projects—but of course, most well known for his portrayal of Vinnie Chase in the HBO hit show Entourage, a dizzying and meta experience for Adrian that in so many ways came to parallel his own life. But Adrian has evolved past this archetype of adolescent id, trading Hollywood for a ranch outside Austin, Texas. He's matured into a regenerative farmer, environmentalist, and founder of the Lonely Whale Foundation. He's also an impact investor, leading DuContra Ventures as co-founder and Chief Experience Officer.A heart-centered community builder who cares deeply about our symbiosis with self, each other, and the natural habitat we share, today Adrian shares his worthy story. It's about the hidden, ugly truths that lay beneath the modern American dream. It's about the work required, and beauty to behold, in wrestling with the soul. It's about endeavoring to connect with and express that which is more fundamental and meaningful. But most of all, it's about finding ways to be in service to a better world. To read more click here. You can also watch listen to our exchange on YouTube. Challenging Women to Embrace Change Carenda DeonneHave you ever felt like life is spiraling out of control? Or that you are being pressured to be “perfect” in everything you do. This is especially true if you are in the ministry in some form or fashion. God forbid you should ever be anything BUT perfect, right? It seems like people today are putting unnecessary pressure on themselves to live a life of perfection. Then, when they do not live up to the perfect image, they feel like they have failed. Failed in life, failed in business, failed in marriage – you get the picture. Well, my guest today was just like you. Carenda Deonne she lived like this for many years as a former pastors wife and entrepreneur. After two failed marriages and business relationships, Carenda stopped pointing the finger outward and pointed inward. She confronted her own imperfections, lack of self-love and trust. Only when she was “Carenda,” was she able to life a full and fruitful life. Now, she is licensed minister, a contributing writer to “Grace and Glory Magazine,” the founder and organizer of P.H.S. which stands for “Prospering Healthy Souls,” which is a Christian centered group for professional women. Through this group, she helps women in fostering prosperity through wisdom, healing and strategy for both, personal and professional growth. Carenda Deonne is also the a published author of three books, the latest is titled, https://amzn.to/3kTehiQ (“Perfect Patty Messed Up Devotional,”) which we will be discussing today. She is a professional speaker and takes her message of “IMPACT” all across the world, as she is determined to be an undeniable voice and calls herself, an “agent of change.” Help me welcome to the program, Carenda Deonne! First question, other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Carenda Deonne?” Now, from your bio, I guess it would be safe to say that your life has not always been one of sunshine and roses, right?” At what point in your life did you realize you had to take care of you? Why do you identify yourself as a “Change Agent?” What does that mean? Why do you believe some people are so hesitant to embrace change? As you go through the process of helping your clients, what is one of the major misconceptions you find that people have concerning change? I know I've talked to some folks that were going through some issues, they felt like, “once I get through this, THEN I'll do such and such.”  Have you found that to be true as well?  I mean, why do some people find it so hard to embrace change, especially when they KNOW they must change, until they “go through” whatever it is they are experiencing at that moment? Tell us about your book, https://amzn.to/3kTehiQ (“Perfect Patty Messed Up Devotional.”) What is this book about? How can someone get a copy of https://amzn.to/3kTehiQ (“Perfect Patty Messed Up Devotional?”) Is it on Amazon? What other services do you provide? If someone has a question or wanted to reach out to you, how can they do that? How can someone get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this in the show notes below. Folks, I know you know someone who can use Carenda's services. I also know that you or someone you know would be blessed by Carenda's new book, https://amzn.to/3kTehiQ (“Perfect Patty Messed Up Devotional.”) Just go down into the show notes and click the links right there. Does the idea of change make you uncomfortable? For most people, the answer is yes because let's face it, change IS hard. But we also know that progress only happens when we step into the discomfort and embrace change. Meet Kimberley Gardiner, SVP & Chief Marketing Officer at Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., who shares her career journey and how the desire for impact led her to become a change agent. Kimberley shares how once she decided to share her ideas authentically, even when they went against the status quo – in a very male dominated industry - she was much happier, more satisfied, and more engaged. This decision to push to do things a little differently, a little better, led to the success that she has achieved. Kimberley brings more than 20 years of automotive experience to her current role at VW. She most recently served as the Chief Marketing Officer for Mitsubishi Motors North America. She joined Mitsubishi from Kia Motors America where she directed marketing efforts for the brand. Previously, she served as CMO and Vice President of Operations for 5th Kind, a global digital asset management company. She is known for being an innovative thinker with a passion to help drive change in the automotive industry – a great fit for helping to push for mainstream adoption of electric vehicles led by Volkswagen. In this episode, Kimberley shares why you shouldn't be afraid to ask for advice, her daily success habits, how to build your own personal board of directors, and how to plan and achieve your long-term goals. Put the record player away and move forward with the lesson.” – Kimberley Gardiner “Positioning success in terms of how it ladders up in the long term will help you be more successful in the short term.” - Kimberley Gardiner “By saying yes to everything you shortchange the things that are really important to you.”- Kimberley Gardiner “The more you paint that picture early on, of what change can look like in the future, in a way that a person or team can relate to - saving you time, helping with turnover, achieving goals faster, and ultimately being more profitable, with a smaller footprint, the more people will be excited about the opportunity ahead.” - Kimberley Gardiner About Kimberley Gardiner: Kimberley Gardiner, SVP, Marketing & CMO, Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. Kimberley is responsible for leading brand marketing for VW, including building on the momentum generated by the introduction of Volkswagen's first all-electric SUV, the ID. 4.
