In this episode of Star Warsologies, we share the recording of our our Star Wars Celebration Japan panel "Droids, Artificial Intelligence, and Sentience" Panel description: R2-D2 and C-3PO. BB-8. Battle droids. Star Wars isn't Star Wars without its lovable droids. We'll examine the science of robots, the programming of personality and the ethics of sentient mechanicals in society, plus go behind the scenes on designing droids for the movies. Why do droids in Star Wars look the way they do? Why do we all love R2-D2? How close are we to having droid intelligence and personality in our own world? Let's go inside the gears and processing units to explore all the possibilities. Our team of experts includes Yukie Nagai (Project Professor, International Research Center for Neurointelligence, University of Tokyo), Fon Davis (ILM Model Maker - Star Wars), Chris Kempshall (author, Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire and The History and Politics of Star Wars) and Joel Welch (PhD Law candidate at Western University, Emerging Technology Policies & SciFi). Moderated by James Floyd (Star Wars Insider; Star Warsologies, Star Wars Crossword Puzzles). Show Links: Check out Yukie Nagai's robotics website. Check out Chris Kempshall's website. The Star Wars universe gets a lot of attention for its lightsabers, space battles, and witty droids. But over the decades, a rich lore has developed around its history and politics. Dr. Chris Kempshall researches and writes at the intersection of real-world history, with a focus on the First World War, and the Star Wars universe. His books include The History and Politics of Star Wars, which analyzes various aspects of Star Wars compared to our world, and Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, an examination of the Empire from the perspective of an in-universe historian. Chris joined David Priess to discuss World War I-themed video games, how Star Wars creator George Lucas used history, how to get one's hands around the ever-expanded lore of Star Wars, why the movie sequels differed from published books about the aftermath of the Empire's fall, the structure and operations of the Empire, the problematic politics of the Republic, the treatment of non-human species and droids in Star Wars canonical works, controversy over the redemption of Anakin Skywalker, fan theories about the extent of Emperor Palpatine's manipulation of events and about the evidence that Jar Jar Binks was a Sith, and much more.Works mentioned in this episode:The Star Wars canon, across all mediaWorks in Star Wars Legends (formerly the Star Wars Expanded Universe)The Chatter episode National Security Insights from Board Games, with Volko RuhnkeThe book British, French and American Relations on the Western Front, 1914-1918 by Chris KempshallThe book The First World War in Computer Games by Chris KempshallThe book The History and Politics of Star Wars by Chris KempshallThe book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire by Chris KempshallThe Sharpe Series of books by Bernard CornwellChatter is a production of Lawfare and Goat Rodeo. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (2019) by Bob Sham & Friends
Acomi and Turk182 decide the best way to celebrate May 4th is by watching a movie that will make you hate May 4th and question the Star Wars universe. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Episode IX. What is there to say about a sequel or trilogy that didn't need to exist? Characters with inordinate potential that is never fully realized, or quickly forgotten. Development that is copy-paste or dropped. Cameos of characters from prior movies used as a gimmick to get the viewer interested, or give credence that this is a good film. Events that are never explained, and should just be accepted. Join Acomi and Turk as they try valiantly to hold their kelvin degree boiling bile in check and not rage at the screen. So incomprehensible it makes the Humanoid look like a true sequel. Let's Watch! Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Acomi and Turk182, along the occasional special guest, provide running commentary of awfulsome movie and TV shows. The hosts select movies that either one, or both, have never seen. All jokes and comments are improvised. NO PREPARED JOKES OR COMMENTS! During recording, the movies are watched at a low volume and with the subtitles on. Viewers may want to turn subtitles on as well to enhance the viewing experience. So, cue up the audio, ready the movie, and hit play when we say so. Note: This is commentary recorded by Acomi and Turk182. The commentary can be enjoyed on its own, but if you want to experience the Let's Watch! in all its glory, you'll need your own copy of the movie. Most of the movies viewed can be streamed online for free. #OMTWF #KorovaEntertainment #LetsWatch #LW #Acomi #Turk182 #awfulsome #StarWars #StarWarsTROS #SWTROS Follow Acomi on Twitter at @AcomiDraws and on Instagram at AcomiDraws. It's taken nearly 400 episodes, but a Star Wars film finally takes centre stage. It's 2019's saga-ending The Rise Of Skywalker, a film that was announced in 2012, and went through, well, 'changes' over the ensuing years. The planned remake of Road House actually started life roughly around the same time, and there were a couple of false starts. But when it was finally ready to go, filming seemed to go without too much trouble. It was only in post-production that the problems started to mount... Stories of both are told in this episode. Here we are, finishing our series on the galaxy far, far away. Listen to our review of the final film in the sage here!
A $4 billion dollar Disney acquisition, Reddit internet flamewars, and three film trilogies of the so-called “Skywalker Saga” have finally led to this: a movie so desperate to backtrack on The Last Jedi and meet its 2019 release date that the end result is something akin to a term paper written half an hour before you're supposed to turn it in. Rise of Skywalker isn't so much a film as it is the apotheosis of every single horrible trend in IP blockbuster filmmaking this podcast has discussed since our very first episode, a movie that set out to please everyone and in turn satisfied absolutely nobody save for your dumbest co-worker and children with the attention spans of goldfish. JJ Abrams' mystery box collapses in on itself in a jaw-droppingly stupid way that leaves you asking one question: how did anyone think this was okay to release? Shout out to the lovely seqarts for upgrading to the $100 Kevin Feige tier on our Patreon! And thank you to our $10 Executive Producers: Owen2, bernventers, Lohik, jprestonpoole, and PineappleRevy. It's a slow start to the year thanks to the writers and actors strikes but there is always fun to be had on the Just Go Watch podcast and especially so when Star Wars is involved. Brace yourselves because the hate is in full flow with the last installment of the sequel trilogy!
This is Day 9 on our journey across the Star Wars universe and at last our hero's have reached the end of the Skywalker Saga! Normally I put a funny joke here, but honestly the movie is enough of a joke on its own! "In the riveting conclusion of the landmark Skywalker saga, new legends will be born-and the final battle for freedom is yet to come." https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2527338/

Jeremy heard that Huw had (on his own time) watched episodes VII and VIII of Star Wars and thus a very controversial instalment of The Watchie Boiyz arises. The Skywalker Saga concluded 42 years after it began as a single movie and blossomed into a hodge-podge of lasers and spaceships. This movie sucks and the Boiyz hate it. That's the episode basically. Alright lets get this over with. We've gone through the hype and disappointment at the "soft reboot" that was Force Awakens. We've tried to piece together the intentions of The Last Jedi and the behind-the-scenes issues that made it the strange movie that it is. And now, we've finally made it to the crown jewel of this trilogy: The Rise of Skywalker. Spoiler alert: we hate it. So if you want to hear us try to figure out the ridiculous nonsense this movie calls a plot while we sink further and further into insanity, hit that play button! Hold on to your dark side, we're going in! As always, follow us on Twitter @ParkingLotCast to stay up to date, interact with us, and check out our episode artwork. You can listen to a new episode of our show on Spotify, iTunes, and Podbean every Tuesday night at 8:30 PM EST! Back in 1980 Pac-Man was released in the U.S., and we were overtaken with something called “Pac-Man Fever.” What metaphorical lessons can we learn about God and faith from the hours upon hours some of us have spent in bean bag chairs with controllers in our hands? #MoPacMan
Look what we have made... it's the season finale of Podcast Part 3, and we're wrapping up our Palpatine trilogy with 2019's The Rise of Skywalker! Will and Sam fire up their force dyad to puzzle over the many strange decisions that led to this messy end to the Skywalker Saga. Along the way, Sam nitpicks about lightsabers, Will bangs the table in frustration a lot, and together they have a friendly and respectful discussion about The Last Jedi. (Yes, it can be done!)
