In this episode, I review the Marvel Comics Trade Paperback Star Wars: The Rise Of Kylo Ren by Charles Soule, and Will Sliney. Enjoy!
This week Mike is doing a book review on Charles Soule's Light Of The Jedi as well as giving an overview in the new era of Star Wars; The High Republic! For more detail, for the first 20 minutes, Mike gives some information on The High Republic era (set 200 years before The Phantom Menace) before delving into the review - his reviews are split into 3 parts; the first is completely spoiler free, with some vague information on the book's themes, vehicles & etc while the second will have some very light spoilers, plot details and character information with the last part giving more information about certain aspects and Mike reads out a single page that he believes give a good insight into the book as a whole, but for clarity, he does not spoil the story or what happens to any characters in this recording. Light Of The Jedi was released January 5th 2021 by Charles Soule who has also written Star Wars comics including; The Rise Of Kylo Ren mini-series (ep 1 of SWCIC) the Obi-Wan & Anakin mini-series (ep 11 of SWCIC), the Lando mini-series (ep 18 of SWCIC), as well as the 31-issue run of Poe Dameron and 25-issue run of Darth Vader comics (2017) – Mike will be tackling the Poe & Vader series in the future too! Other High Republic content currently available includes; A Test Of Courage – a young reader novel by Justina Ireland, Into The Dark – a young adult novel by Claudia Gray (who Mike spoke with on SWCIC on December 12th), The High Republic comics by Cavan Scott and High Republic Adventures comics by Daniel José Older, plus Cavan Scott has the “sequel” novel to Light Of The Jedi coming out on July 6th 2021. In the last episode of SWCIC (episode 47), Mike tackled the 6 Heroes stories in the Age Of Rebellion one-shot comic series (from original trilogy); Leia in “Princess Scoundrel”, Han (& Chewie) in “Running From The Rebellion”, Lando in “Cloud City Blues”, Luke in “Fight Or Flight”, Yoda in “The Trial Of Dagobah” and Biggs Darklighter & Porkins in “Stolen Valor”, plus Mike also gives additional information about each of the characters, connections, species and more!! Jack of the Just Conversations podcast returns for part 2 of the deep dive into the concept of good & evil, consciousness, “the fountain of existence”, identity & more – continuing the very abstract discussion! So for this week’s part, the conversation on consciousness continues but please be advised on a trigger warning, as rape is mentioned as an example during the discussion. For clarity, the rest of their conversation tackles abtract ideas, the equalisation of the universe, how the universe may have started, the causation of consciousness, the “fountain of existence”, free will & determinism, one’s self and more! In case you missed it, part 1 of their chat started with the “passive apocalypse” and the polarising political system in America before delving into the main conversation topic; the concept of “good & evil”. Mike & Jack discuss whether “good” or “evil” even exist, as well as the historical retelling of events that alter perception, whether or not intent can affect the “goodness” of an action, religion’s impact of the perception of evil, heaven & hell and consciousness! This week, Mike speaks to Jack of the Just Conversations podcast for a deep dive into the concept of good & evil, identity & more – a very abstract discussion! Part 1 of their chat starts with the “passive apocalypse” and the polarising political system in America before delving into the main conversation topic; the concept of “good & evil”. Mike & Jack discuss whether “good” or “evil” even exist, as well as the historical retelling of events that alter perception, whether or not intent can affect the “goodness” of an action, religion’s impact of the perception of evil, heaven & hell, consciousness and more! Part 2 will be out next week on this usual feed (but both parts are already out on Patreon in one full episode) – be advised on a trigger warning, as although their discussion on consciousness continues, rape is mentioned as an example during the discussion. For clarity, the rest of their conversation tackles abtract ideas, the equalisation of the universe, how the universe may have started, the causation of consciousness, the “fountain of existence”, free will & determinism, one’s self and more, so either tune in next week or pop over to Patreon to hear more! I'm talking Star Wars comics, reviewing "Thrawn: Treason," "Myths & Fables," and "A Crash Of Fate," and answering your mailbag questions! - "Star Wars," "Doctor Aphra," and "Target Vader" series ending - "Rise Of Kylo Ren" limited run - "Thrawn: Treason" Review - "Myths & Fables" Review - "A Crash Of Fate" Review Mailbag Questions 1.) Eddie Rios - Greetings my friend! Love your podcast. I listen to every episode you produce usually in my car on my way home from work. Keep up the good work. With the announcement of the ObiWan series do you think we'll see a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine? Its good to know you are slowly building more followers. You deserve it. Peace. 2.) Kylie Burns - Hey there Brian! Big fan here. Been listening to your content since The Force Awakens came out. I love how your channel has grown and wanted to say congrats on your little youngling coming soon! I did not like TLJ. If you can rebuttal any of the following I am open to looking at it differently. It's stupid to have a droid say the famous line "I have a bad feeling about this." It was totally out of character for Luke to just drop everything and go into hiding. We've never heard of ships using fuel before the Disney era. Force communication didn't kill Luke and Leia in ESB, why did it kill Luke in TLJ? When was it established that Force ghosts could interact with the physical world? Why were the turbolaser beams from the Finalizer arching in space? Why is Leia all of a sudden able to use the Force to save herself when we've never seen her use it before? I'd like to hear your opinion on these topics, and how you can still call it a SW movie with those flaws. Keep up the great work Brian! 3.) Rose Cooper - Brian, today is my birthday! Hoping to get a question on the show. In your opinion what is the best expanded universe scene in any book, and what is the best scene in all of canon (book, movie, anything)? 4.) Todd Marsh - Hey Brian I have a question for your podcast. I know you enjoy the new canon quite a bit. But what is the biggest drawback in your opinion of a connected universe? Would love to hear your thoughts.
