Are you ready to step outside your comfort zone? Are you ready to start dealing with your daily challenges head on? In this episode, we are joined by Todd Palmer to discuss how ditching your comfort zone leads to growth through authenticity, transparency and vulnerability. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover how you can ditch your comfort zone as a leader or business owner to experience success. Learn how to shift from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Learn how to have those difficult conversations at work. Resources 30-minute consultation with Todd Palmer to get unstuck 1st chapter of Todd's new book for free Episode Highlights Ditching Your Comfort Zone- Todd speaks about ditching his comfort zone and what he had to go through, being very introverted, not participating in conversations around peers. Todd learned that sometimes you have to go out and approach others instead of waiting for them to come to you. Todd also shared that avoiding difficult conversations at work or in your personal life does not allow for growth and development. Having Difficult Conversations At Work- As a leader, being able to have difficult conversations with your employees is an integral part of the success of your team and organization. These conversations can be difficult mainly because of fear of failure. Transparency, authenticity, and vulnerability are crucial to change and growth amongst a team. Managing difficult conversations helps us build and maintain healthy personal as well as work relationships. Difficult Conversation About Growth Through Authenticity, Transparency & Vulnerability- Todd shared that when a connection is missing from a team it allows for doubt amongst the team; doubt in that their leader is not concerned with the best interest of the team. As a leader, whether you are the Team Lead or Manager you have to engage and connect with your team, in order to build a certain level of trust. Todd shared that communication is important across all levels within a company. Communication shows team members that you as leader care about your team. Fixed Mindset; Not A Growth Mindset- Fixed and growth are the two basic mindsets that shape our lives. We become so sheltered in our comfort zones that instead of embracing challenges, we avoid them. One of the main issues with having a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset is that we feel threatened by the success of others instead of finding lessons and inspiration in the success of others. 3 Powerful Quotes from This Episode “Find joy in being of service to other people” “If it doesn't challenge you then it won't change you” “Great moves never come from within your comfort zone” About Todd Palmer Todd knows that growth happens only when we lean into the uncomfortable -- and he knows from personal experience: Todd went from being a struggling entrepreneur with $600,000 in debt to make the INC 5000 (a record total of 6 times!) as one of America's fastest-growing companies. Today, as a collaborative business advisor and CEO of Extraordinary Advisors, Todd helps his clients ditch their comfort zone, dive into their “failures,” and re-frame their mindset to be more authentic, transparent, and vulnerable to affect real change along the path to success. When you set your intentions, good things happen. Alex recently got the office space he wanted, which is literally minutes away from his house and the building had a waiting list on it! How did he do it? Persistence and commitment, but most importantly, setting the intention and not giving up. Key Takeaways: Be insanely intentional about what you want and why you want it. What are your needs and what are your wants? Assess your priorities and then come up with a plan. Three years ago, Alex's average profit per deal was hovering between $12 - $13K. When Alex set the intention to aim for $20K per deal … Guess what … his team did it. You've got to get buy-in from your team. If you don't ask, then you don't receive. Alex never wanted an office, but with two young children running around at home, Alex couldn't work from home anymore and had to find office space. Since Alex wanted something within a 5-minute drive, Alex started knocking on businesses' doors looking for office space! Doughnuts! Doughnuts are your friends. This is the perfect example of what being insanely intentional and committed to something looks like. Sometimes you gotta think a little bit outside of the box and get creative. Know why you want something, set your sights on it, and then don't take no for an answer. The more nos you get, the closer you are to a yes. Organizing for Change Podcast - Episode 12 Show Notes Goal: “to equip coalitions, organizations, and individuals to bring change to their community” Host, Amanda Decker joins Jennifer Rowe, Assistant District Attorney for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office. Welcome to Episode 012 of the Podcast: A Champion for Change Guest: Jennifer Rowe, Assistant District Attorney for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office Norfolk County District Attorney Website: http://www.mass.gov/norfolkda/ Organizing for Change Website: https://organizing4change.podbean.com/ Organizing for Change Twitter: @organizing4chng 3 Insights from This Episode: Find a Champion. The District Attorney’s Office had credibility and relationships with many diverse partners. They are champions for change, leveraging this influence to address gaps in information sharing around Rx prescribing (due to things like HIPPA,) by bringing people who do not traditionally work together to share information and create change. One of these ideas was to put on a conference for safe prescribing of medication. During this conference, medical prescribers (nurse practitioners, doctors, dentists etc), state officials, law enforcement (both local and national), educators, parents, and coalition members were able to talk about different experiences and realize how they were all connected to each other and were trained in their role how to prevent over prescribing. There is Nothing Like the Power of the Personal Story. In Norfolk County, any one is supposed to be able to get naloxone (the opioid reversal drug) from their pharmacy. Due to a number of circumstances, a number of people who try to pick up naloxone for their loved one are met with negative experiences. When Jen and the team wanted to talk to pharmacists about what the person getting naloxone experienced, they made a video with people’s actually experiences with attempting to obtain naloxone. This video was eye opening to everyone at the safe prescribing conference. A first hand experience that details the problem, has incredible power to create change. Identify the Right People. Jen and her team worked to find people who had the right information, resources and motives and put them to the task of mentoring other starting coalitions in Norfolk County. The DA’s office leveraged their influence to give credibility to other voices in the prevention field to create community change. Today, almost every community in Norfolk County has a Substance Use Prevention coalition (despite many of these coalition not having funding) and the DA’s office serves as a connector to provide ongoing training for coalitions. Off air insight from Jen: Although HIPPA does not allow doctors to talk to someone other than the patient (without a waiver), this does not prevent the parent (spouse, grandparent etc) from talking to the doctor and giving them information. Many people do not understand that HIPPA does not prevent them from calling their loved ones doctor. Although the conversation will be a “one way street”, a “one way street” is still better than a “no way” street. Next Episode: Subscribe now for free and you won’t miss episode 013

I had no idea what to expect from this book, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting a lot. I don’t know why. The title just seemed so vague and I think I was expecting it to be fluffy and not full of a ton of solid content. But boy was I wrong! This was one of my favorite books I’ve read this year! The tag line is Finding Your Joy in God, Your Man, Your Kids, and Your Home. Every homemaker should read this book at some point! The book is broken into 4 main parts: Your walk with God, your marriage, your parenting and your homemaking. In every section I felt encouraged and also convicted about how I spend my time, respond to my husband, respond to me kids, and more. If you are looking for a good book on Biblical Womanhood, then I highly recommend you get a copy of Women Living Well! “I would like to believe that the Proverbs 31 woman may not have enjoyed every second of spinning her thread. It was mundane, hard work. In the same way, we may not enjoy every minute of cleaning toilets or folding underwear, but I think we all will admit that we love the feel of clean sheets on the bed, fresh towels in the bathroom, bathed babies in clean pajamas, and a warm meal on The result of our hard work is a blessing to everyone how enters our home.” – Women Living Well, page 171 Thanks for Listening!

So the book explores topics such as: the gospel, prayer, worship, community within the church, giving, and more. It also has a great appendix with some really good resources such as: hymns for your devotion time. It's been a few years since I've read this one, so I'm planning on going back and reading it again soon.
