The holidays have come and gone, and the hot stove has cooled with the frigid temperatures of January arriving. But Spring Training, the WBC, and Opening Day are right around the corner, and the Orioles have revamped an already talented albeit underperforming roster as they look to take a massive step forward and return to the postseason in 2026. Griffin Bass fills in for Zach Moore as he joins Paul to discuss the offseason so far and compare the Orioles to the rest of the division. Have they done enough to over take the Beasts of the East, or does Mike Elias have another trick up his sleeve? That and more on The Bat Around!
Mike Elias went and got his veteran starter on a one-year deal. This time it's a familiar face: Zach Eflin. Does this mean the starting rotation is a finished product? The newest and shiniest Baltimore Orioles addition arrived for a bizarrely timed Friday afternoon press conference at Camden Yards and won the day. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the Pete Alonso emergence at The Warehouse alongside David Rubenstein, Mike Elias and Scott Boras and what the future holds for the slugger, whom the owner compared to Frank Robinson coming the Charm City. The post Luke Jones and Nestor discuss Alonso emergence at Camden Yards and what Orioles must do next first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.
Ed and Jeremy took some time from Tuesday's BBMS to discuss David Rubenstein's assertion that there are no financial restraints on Mike Elias as he tries to add pieces to the team. If there are still those who doubt him after the Alonso contract, what else would be able to convince the naysayers?
It's a new era in Baltimore! The Orioles made the biggest splash of the last 20+ years at this year's Winter Meetings, signing slugging first baseman, Pete Alonso, to a five year, $155 million contract to fortify the middle of the order and give the O's one of baseball's best lineups. And with Mike Elias's comments that they have an "unlimited budget," it would appear the team is far from finished adding to this roster. Dillon Atkinson fills in for Zach Moore as he and Paul react to this huge signing and opine on what's to come. All that and more on The Bat Around!
The Orioles have made their biggest move in the Mike Elias era by signing Pete Alonso to a 5-year/$155 million contract. What does this mean for the Orioles? BlueSky Twitter YouTube Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
It's not our money and it made the baseball team better so there will be no complaining about Mike Elias taking the money of David Rubenstein and Michael Arougheti and investing in a legitimate attempt to win. The Baltimore Orioles got better with the signing of slugger Pete Alonso but they get $155 million better? Luke Jones and Nestor take a deep dive into the Birdland splash of MLB free agency. The post Luke Jones and Nestor discuss all aspects of Pete Alonso coming to the Baltimore Orioles for big money first appeared on Baltimore Positive WNST.
Things have quieted down around the warehouse, but that doesn't mean that Mike Elias is taking a break. According to the Baltimore Banner, the Orioles and their GM have their eyes set on players coming out of Japan. Very interesting... BlueSky Twitter YouTube Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The guys fire up the livestream to at long last discuss some Orioles baseball following the dawn of a new era at Camden Yards. The 2025 season was one that was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons, from a miserable start in the opening few months, the in-season firing of Brandon Hyde as a result of it, and the painful (and ultimately unsuccessful) attempt at clawing their way back into playoff contention. Since then, the O's saw a division rival once again represent the AL in the World Series in a seven game set that was won by a Dodgers team who look miles ahead of where Baltimore needs to be in just about every facet of the game. They've now hired a new manager in Craig Albernaz who looks and sounds every bit the part of the guy who can get this group of talent back to where they need to be; but as we've learned in Birdland this calendar year, talk is cheap. In Albernaz' opening press conference, he, Mike Elias, and David Rubenstein said all the right things regarding what it will take to turn things around. Can they do it? Only time will tell. As a wise man once said at the end of another extremely difficult Orioles season, "you just... don't... know." Thanks as always for tuning in, and we'll be back at you very soon!
