Today, sports fans and high achievers, you're in for a treat! Empathy is not soft. It's not weak. Nothing thrills me more than when I can share examples of empathetic leadership that help win national championships or create winning sports dynasties. You may recall my example of Golden State Warriors coach, Steve Kerr, in my book, The Empathy Dilemma.Emmy award-winning producer and sports broadcaster Jen Mueller shares how she's seen coaching and leadership styles evolve in the last few decades, how she conducts sideline interviews with athletes who may have either had the worst or best day of their careers, why empathy is not just showing up on a bad day, but encouraging and celebrating your team's best days, and why top athletes and performers crave clarity and feedback in order to get better. You'll get so many tips on how to deliver feedback, ask the right questions, and infuse joy and levity into your team for championship-level performance. To access the episode transcript, please search for the episode title at www.TheEmpathyEdge.comKey Takeaways:We don't need or want to be cruel in the name of candor. Candor and clarity are empathetic and can help everyone understand where they are at. Prepare ahead so that you can be with your team in the moment. Consider: how do you give somebody permission to talk about their win and an easy way to share in that celebration with everybody else? You can lead a high-performance team, while still leaving room for emotion, feelings, and disappointment when things don't go well. "We assume that everybody understands what winning and losing look like and they don't. However, there is not much clarity from the team and what exactly it will look like, which leaves many who work for the network in the dark.  Jim and Puck discuss how unfair it is for the M's still keep their employees in the lurch of what their plans are. They wonder why the Mariners don't just steal a play out of the Kraken playbook and go on local television and then offer a streaming service.   The Seattle Times also had a story about the wild success that the Kraken are having with their Kraken Hockey Network and so far early in the season it has been a runaway success compared to being on ROOT Sports the last few years.  They also turn their attention to what the Mariners will do in free agency and the likelihood that they will sign Justin Turner and or Carlos Santana.  Puck doesn't think a serious organization brings back a 40 and 39 year old, however, Jim disagrees and likes what Turner brings. PuckSports handicapper TroyWins.comjoins Puck and Jim to go over all the football bets for the weekend and at the end they give our their “Dogs of the Week.” Chris Egan, KING 5, joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly chat.  They navigate Thanksgiving food traditions, high school football playoffs, Thanksgiving vs. Christmas and they discuss the funeral of former sportscaster Tony Ventrella. Egan and Puck have a spirited back and forth over the debate of Christmas and Thanksgiving. How much do the Seahawks need Smith and how much does Geno need the Seahawks?Where will Aaron Rogers end up next season?  Any chance he could land in San Francisco?  Will there be a number of suitors for him?Are Deion Sanders and his son a package deal to the NFL?  If they are, where?  Was the Bills win over the Chiefs important?  Did the Steelers once again offer the blueprint how to beat Lamar Jackson and the Ravens? The “Dugar Report” with Michael-Shawn Dugar, The Athletic as he joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his brand new weekly appearance taking the latest with the Seattle Seahawks.  Mike and Puck get right into the win over the 49ers and what was the single biggest reason for the win. Mike told Puck that Mike Macdonald offered a different tone than what Pete Carroll would always preach.  It was great to have Abe Lucas back on the field and you could tell immediately that he was a difference maker and he raised the play of the entire offensive line. Geno Smith continues to be hot topic with fans and media and showed again with his last second drive why he continues to be such a polarizing topic and player. Mike gets into a very interesting discussion with Puck on the team building philosophy of Mike Macdonald and how it's different than the rest of the league thinking  and how it harkens back to an older style of football. They also discuss the 49ers window and look ahead to the Seahawks matchup with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.  Lastly, Puck wraps up the Thursday show with, “Hey, What the Puck!?”   Money is not everything for everyone.  Washington State defensive tackle David Gusta illustrated that this week with Puck. Puck explains that they work for the team and no one who works for a team whether on TV or radio is going to be overly critical of that particular team.  The Seahawks finished up the first month of the season and Puck loves where the team is at right now.  The offensive numbers have stood out and the defense, minus the Detroit game has been good.  On thing the defense needs to improve on is forcing turnovers. Mike Garafolo, NFL Network joins the show and immediately discusses the market for Davante Adams who has requested a trade from the Raiders.  The Jets and the Saints are the obvious landing spots, but Mike said keep an eye out for the 49ers because they tried to trade for Adams over the summer while dealing with Brandon Aiyuk.  If the Niners were to trade for Adams they would obviously be shipping Aiyuk out.  Does Tyreke Hill want out of Miami and does he want to return to the Chiefs.  Mike gives the lates on that situation.  Doesn't look like Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers will play for the Giants on Sunday as he deals with a concussion.  Also, don't anticipate to see Seahawks defensive tackle Byron Murphy against the Giants, but Leonard Williams will try and give it a go.  Other NFL news, what happened with Von Miller and his four-game suspension?  Drama brewing between Josh Allen and Stefon DiggsBrad Adam, ROOT Sports drops by for his last weekly visit of the baseball season to put the finishing touches on the season.  They address the Jerry Dipoto “press conference” over the weekend.  Do Mariner fans trust this ownership group?  Mariners have significant holes in the infield, how will they fill all those holes?Lastly, what is the future of ROOT Sports?  Brad shares the behind the scenes emotions of not knowing whether or not he and others will have a job next season. Rundown00:00 Puck opens up telling fans to lay off people that work at ROOT Sports.  You would do the same thing.   Seahawks first month grades.  Offense looks great and so does defense minus just one game.  Big stretch of games coming up for Seattle and all at home, just take advantage of the schedule. 20:03 Mike Garafolo, NFL Network joins the show.  Davante Adams trade update. 49ers players for Adams? On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett, jumps right into the disappointing Mariners season and how they are on the brink of missing the playoffs again. Puck laughs at the idea that they may be eliminated today if the Royals and Tigers win and they would play Friday night on Fan Appreciation Night. Fitting for this organization. Puck moves on to talk about how concerned he is with the injury situation with Abe Lucas.  If they are brining in 42 year old Jason Peters, they are in trouble. Pac-12 is in trouble after UNLV and Air Force announced their intention to stay in the Mountain West, however, the Pac-12 has the best teams from the Mountain West, so don't worry. Puck explains why he's not all that concerned. Mike Garafolo, NFL Network stops by to talk NFL.  Doesn't seem like Byron Murphy and Leonard Williams will play this week.  Abe Lucas not back to full health and Puck wonders if his career is over. Garafolo reassures Puck that his injury is not career ending.  Mike explains that the regular season is in doubt for Christian McCaffrey with his Achilles injury. Brad Adam of ROOT Sports drops by for his weekly to talk about the Mariners fledgling playoff hopes while doing the show from his bedroom because his wife is working downstairs and his daughter is home sick.  Puck prods Brad about the team likely being eliminated before they host Fan Appreciation night on Friday and how fans should feel about the team.  They also talk about not wanting to trade any of their young pitchers to add bats in the offseason.  Does Edgar Martinez want to continue coaching?  Brad has his doubts.  The wrap up laughing at Catie Criggs, former team president who is now with the Orioles doing a beer bong after Baltimore clinched a playoff spot.  Brad and Puck both talk about the worst thing they have ever put into a beer bong. Finally, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Puck tells Mariners fans to fan any way they want when it comes to this last homestand.  In this conversation, Brad Adam and Puck discuss the current state of the Mariners, reflecting on their performance, fan sentiment, and the upcoming offseason. They explore the potential strategies for retaining key players, the importance of leadership within the team, and the dynamics that have shaped the Mariners' season. The discussion also touches on the challenges of fan engagement and the expectations for the future, emphasizing the need for a strong response from ownership and management to meet fan expectations.Rundown00:00 Mariners on verge of elimination 06:40 Puck is real concerned with Abe Lucas 10:33 Will fans vent their frustration on fan appreciation night?15:32 Pac-12 is a mess, but it's actually not that bad 22:41 Mike Garafolo, NFL Network on injury news with Leonard Williams, Byron Murphy, Abe Lucas and the season could be over for Christian McCaffrey. On today's Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett is joined by Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftblog.com, John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com and Bill Krueger, ROOT Sports. Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftBlog.comjoins the show from the start to chat about the Seahawks win over Miami and the play of the defense.  Is the defense good or is it a result of the opponents they have faced?  Also, you are seeing a trend in the NFL with teams running the football more and it's a trend that will likely continue as the season moves forward.  So, as Puck and Rob discuss, old school football is back!   With all the compliments being thrown the way of the Seahawks, they still have issues on the offensive line, in particular Anthony Bradford. Puck and Rob can't figure out why they continue to play him and not give Christian Haynes a shot, but Rob does have a theory that he ran by Puck on why Bradford may be staying in there for now. Rob continues to gush over the play of Geno Smith and the offense despite them struggling in the middle of the game. D.K. Metcalf continues to be a force in the passing game and the running game looked much better with Zach Charbonnet this past weekend. Both Rob and Puck agreed that Charbonnet is a much better back than people give him credit for.  They wrap up their conversation  with thoughts on the rest of the NFC West and NFC and ask who is really better than Seattle right now?  Seattle is playing some really good football despite the opponents. John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com, is next up and they touch in on  the PAC-12's legal maneuvers, Gonzaga's potential addition to the conference, and how legitimate is John Mateer as a Heisman Trophy candidate?  They touch on Wazzu's chances of running the table and creating chaos in the college football playoffs, the impact of media on what teams get the chance to play in the playoffs, and what happens if the Pac-12 can't land UNLV and Air Force.  Where do they turn next?Lastly, Bill Krueger, ROOT Sports, joins Puck to talk Mariners baseball. They immediately jump into the performance of Bryce Miller and Bill suggests he's the best pitcher on the Mariners staff.  Julio Rodriguez is finishing the season strong and Puck asks Bill what he could do to get off to a better start at the beginning of the season.   Bill reminds Puck that the Mariners still have a shot at the playoffs and tells him not to give up hope.  They wrap up their chat with Bill reflecting on his time playing for the Oakland A's and how much that city and organization meant to him and how sad he is that they are leaving Oakland and that Major League baseball should be ashamed of themselves. Finally, “Hey, What the Puck!?”, Puck wonders why Joel Klatt of FOX has a problem with what Oregon State and Washington State are doing in rebuilding the conference?Rundown00:00 PuckSports Mobile App launch…Pac-12 news…NFL running game not dead 12:32 Rob Staton, SeahawksDraftblog.comjoins the show to talk Seahawks win over the Dolphins.  Play of the defense.
