Lips Speak LouderTake a walk with me down Fascination Street, as I get to know Nashville based rock band Lips Speak Louder. In this episode, we get re-acquainted with previous guests Angela Lese and Rachel Brandsness. Each of these women had their own solo episode, where we got to know their back story. So we don't do that in this one. Instead, we discuss how they met, why they decided to start a band together, and why it was deemed necessary to make it a duo. Having been previously associated with the bands: Flarelight, The Dead Deads, Taco Mouth, Fingernails Are Pretty, Jax Hollow, and The Raelyn Nelson Band, and Emily Wolfe; this ultra-talented pair has developed their own unique sound. Rachel explains how she had to tinker with pedals and amps to manage a low end, fuller sound coming from her guitar, and the research that went into it. They explain where the name of their band comes from, and how they got Emily Wolfe to produce the album; which was recorded at Sweetwater Studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We do discuss their 10 track debut album 'Consolation Prize', and some of the tracks available on it. They even graciously let me play my favorite song from the new album! Make sure you follow them on the social medias, and check out their website for vinyl, merch, and tour dates. They will be supporting Emily Wolfe on June 14th at The Levitt Pavillion in Denver for Pride Night.

Destination And Subject: Kyle Dubas and Pittsburgh Penguins Commence Head Coach Search 05/05/25Rick Tocchet, David Carle, and others have been widely discussed as candidates to fill the vacancy Mike Sullivan left when he departed the Steel City. Jeff Taylor and Jordan DeFigio have at least one warm-to-hot take as to who might fit the bill behind the Pittsburgh Penguins' bench, especially while the team undergoes its nearly inevitable transitionary period.Sidney Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson told Pierre LeBrun this weekend that his client would be traveling to Sweden to participate in the IIHF Men's World Championships. What's more, Crosby's longtime teammate and dear friend Marc André Fleury will be making the trip as well, representing Team Canada alongside his old captain.Sid won't be Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia's sole ambassador in the tournament, though. Mr. Consistent: Sidney Crosby Grabs Gretzky's NHL Point-Per-Game Record! 03/27/25With an original working title of ‘Passenger Princess,' production/release of this episode was delayed until close to the start of this evening's road game versus the Sabres. And wouldn't ya know it? Just as I sat down to knock out the edit and get this one posted, Sidney Crosby does what he does best: Contribute to his team's offense. It was a beautiful goal, featuring many of Crosby's best attributes as an athlete and a teammate: On-ice awareness, positional intelligence, and a practiced ability to have quick hands, even from tough angles. The puck ended up on Sid's stick as he floated to the net front, and even though it was in-tight to his body, the captain managed to get a super-fast shot off, beating Billy Reimer high on the glove-side. Just incredible. From us here at Fly Penguins Fly Podcast: Congratulations to Sidney Crosby on a monumental achievement, as he passes Wayne Gretzky to possess the longest-ever season streak of point-per-game play in the NHL.Thanks to Espresso A Mano, Pittsburgh's finest coffee roasters and cafe, for partnering with Fly Penguins Fly podcast. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence went viral in conservative media in June 2023 when the L.A. Dodgers announced plans to honor the local house of the order at the team's annual Pride Night. Reporting on the ensuing scuffle focused largely on sports, politics, and culture wars, not on religion, and it largely misrepresented or overlooked the international order of queer and trans nuns at the heart of the story. In this program, Melissa M. “Half Of Forty-Three” 02/03/25In the midst of back to back weekend victories, the Pittsburgh Penguins made a big trade with the Vancouver Canucks. Gone are the Pittsburgh days of Sweden's Marcus Pettersson and New Jersey's Drew O'Connor, for henceforth they will both suit up in blue sweaters emblazoned with orcas. Jeff and Jordan try to let it really sink in: The Penguins are in full-on rebuild mode, welcoming in as they have defenseman Vinny Desharnais and back-again forward Danton Heinen. “For The Love Of Sid” 01/30/25Sidney Patrick Crosby's backhand shot is the stuff of legends - except when it's happening right in front of 11k Utah Hockey Club fans (minus five thousand give or take Penguins fans). Yep, Sid called game last night in a sudden death OT victory over the NHL's newest franchise. If you haven't beheld the goal yet, cue it up on the inter webs, because it's a thing of absolute beauty. “The Great Thaw” 01/27/25We're not going to pull punches here, folks: The Pittsburgh Penguins are dismally bad at winning right now. They just can't get over the hump most nights, particularly when they're playing bottom-dwellers like the Ducks or Sharks. As the Pens head into the Shark Tank this evening for a 10:30pm puck drop against Macklin Celebrini and Co., it is this podcast's opinion that (a Penguins fan) ought not get one's hopes up. The schedule over the next month is chalk-full of divisional games, versus teams the Pittsburgh Penguins haven't necessarily fared too well agains. Frankly, in the interest of contending next season, this organization might do well to take the next 10-15 games as an ‘opportunity' to climb in the draft lottery standings. We close this episode out with a full discussion of Robert Eggers's “Nosferatu,” a captivating new film that Jeff and Jordan took in, together, just last week. Jesse Marshall: The Cost Of Winning 01/16/25The Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday placed franchise goalie Tristan Jarry on waivers, effectively banishing him to the American Hockey League on an indefinite basis. We're lucky enough to be joined today by The Athletic's own Jesse Marshall. An experienced hockey writer for numerous outlets, Jesse is the co-creator of the Dying Alive podcast, as well as a regular contributor to McKeen's Hockey. With elite hockey IQ - at least as a writer and a keen analyzer of game tape - it is the opinion of our producer and co-host Jeff Taylor, that it's long past time Kyle Dubas hired Jesse in a hockey analytics role. Diehard But Curious 01/13/25Sweet sleeping zambonis. The Pittsburgh Penguins underachieved at biblical levels over the past handful of games, save a predictably unexpected stomping of their perennial daddies, the Edmonton Oilers. In that game, Sidney Crosby put on an absolute SHOW of offense and playmaking, but every other game since last Tuesday's loss to Columbus has been a let-down. Once Jordan and Jeff recap the Pens' aforementioned standings skid, your co-hosts take some time to figure out which non-Penguins team they'll potentially root for heading into a Pittsburgh-less playoffs. Add to that some good-natured film reviews and a couple shoutouts, and you've got yourself a Monday afternoon hockey podcast, do… you… not. Thanks to Espresso A Mano, Pittsburgh's finest coffee roasters and cafe, for partnering with Fly Penguins Fly podcast. Taking The Night Off 01/09/25We've had it for now. At least until the back-to-back this weekend. Tuesday's SO loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets positively broke Jeff's brain. Jordan doesn't seem too well-for-ware over it, herself. Your co-hosts had posted up at a South Hills gin mill for what they'd hoped would be a gratifying win over what Matt Vensel called “Border Rival” Columbus - alas, the story was all too familiar, with Jarry flailing to make even a single save in the shootout.Enjoy this spirited catch-up and hockey chat. The Penguins are probably going to get their asses handed to them tonight when McDavid and the Oilers visit the Paint Can, but there's more hockey this weekend, against far more ‘human' teams. 2025 is here, and it's shaping up to be an exciting year for theme park lovers!
Back To The Grind 01/06/25It was a weekend that saw the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the defending Stanley Cup Champions in Florida, then a team, in the Canes, who perennially gives the Pens fits - especially when the matchup happens on the road in Raleigh. On one hand, the song remained the same in that Pittsburgh put a great game on the ice against the Cats, essentially stealing a point against a first-class Florida lineup. On the other hand, the Penguins proceeded to do one of the things they do best: They blew (another) 2-goal lead against a divisional rival. After a great multi-goal first period in North Carolina, the Pens seemed to doze their way through the second frame and found themselves trailing after forty minutes. Another consolation point was salvaged, thanks to a late-game tally from Erik Karlsson, but neither players nor coach were left with a good taste in their mouths. Jeff and Jordan preview a tough, tough week of upcoming matchups including the Columbus Blue Jackets (nearly tied with the Pens in the WC race) on Tuesday night, and the Edmonton Oilers (defending Western Conference Champs) on Thursday. Thanks to Espresso A Mano, Pittsburgh's finest coffee roasters and cafe, for partnering with Fly Penguins Fly podcast. Before They Even Stop Crying 01/03/25Coming out of Christmas break, the Pittsburgh Penguins dropped four of six points against vulnerable squads. "Oozing with culture." If our admittedly shoddy record-keeping is to be believed, the Capitals haven't embarrassed themselves since they lost to the Sharks on Pride Night - and even that was kinda worth it. Rave, Kelly, and Eva grapple with this new version of the Caps that's horny as ever and somehow also…good? At…hockey. Also on the docket: the Rangers' slow death, Matvei's Michigan, and that whole thing with Paul Bissonnette. This episode was recorded on December 15, 2024. “Hardly Best On Best” 12/16/24On the way to stealing a point from their loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost Marcus Pettersson to what has proven to be a week-to-week lower body injury. That's not good, especially for a team who've just recently begun banking points en route to a possible wildcard berth.Jeff's gears have been ground. The culprit? The NHL's decision not to include Russian players in a so-called ‘best-on-best' tournament. Promoting an event as featuring the world's most elite talent is far from genuine, when the odds-on favorite for Hart Trophy winner, Kirill Kaprizov is at home or on vacation. Alexander Ovechkin. Artemi Panarin. Igor Shesterkin. The list goes on, and none of them will be participating in what could otherwise have been a truly killer shindig.Subscribe to Jeff's new Penguins-related Substack feed:https://substack.com/@penspodThank you for listening!!
