Tom Dugan is the President of Integrum, which is transforming the lives of amputees through a unique orthopedic implant that enables them to attach their prosthesis, their prosthetic leg, or any other type of prosthesis, directly to the musculoskeletal system. These bone-anchored prostheses dramatically improve the lives of amputees with the additional benefit of osseoperception, where they can feel the type of surface they are walking on. Tom explains, "What we do is an alternative to the socket. We have a surgical implant, and it's a fixture that is implanted into the canal of the patient's femur. And if you're familiar with dental implants, that's probably a good analogy because the dental implant was founded by a professor in Sweden called Per-Ingvar Brånemark. And Professor Brånemark, back in the '50s, was doing research in rabbits, and he implanted titanium fixtures into the rabbits that had some optical technology so you could see what happens with the bone in terms of healing." "What happened is Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark, along with some other people including his son, Rickard, who's our CEO -- Rickard's a surgeon and an engineer and a Ph.D.-- took that core technology and adapted it to orthopedic use so they could deal with some of these issues the patients were having with their socket prosthesis. So it's an alternative to using a socket." "With socket prosthesis, the patient is essentially supporting themselves with their soft tissue and muscle, the stump of their leg. With our system, there's now a direct connection between the prosthesis, the prosthetic leg, and the patient's musculoskeletal system. And because of that, the patient will get additional benefits such as things like osseoperception, where they can actually feel the type of surface that they're walking on, whether it'd be grass or carpet, or tile. They can feel where their leg is in space, which is something you really don't get when you're wearing a socket prosthesis." #Integrum #Amputee #AmputeeLife #BoneAnchoredProstheses #OPRAImplantSystem #OrthopedicSurgery #Osseointegration #Prosthetics #Orthopedics #OrthoTrauma #ImplantTechnology #MedTech Integrum.se Download the transcript here

Tom Dugan didn't want to do this podcast. He was in San Diego for a week filming for a new Odyssey project and wanted to stay focused on riding, which is totally fair. Buuuuut, a polar vortex hit Texas and his flight got cancelled two days in a row...so shout out to that freak storm and thanks to Tom for existing. Today Tom shares his views on the public records system, Is the City of Methuen playing games with public records requests? If city employees’ names and salaries are not part of public records than how did retired police chief Joe Solomon’s salary become public knowledge? How did Tom Dugan change the public records law and how does the change help anyone making public record requests? Should the Governor’s office, Mayor’s office, or State Representatives be exempt from public records requests? Is there overtime abuse happening in the DPW? What will the next round of public records from Tom Dugan entail? He is also joined by his new intern Eric Spagnoil, together they chat a little about Erics back story, what he can expect from the journalism world, Erics latest story making the front page of the current issue of the Valley Patriot and is ethical journalism on life support or is there some new blood coming up through the ranks to save it? The Valley Patriot is undergoing a restructuring and will have a big announcement in the next coming weeks.
Masterfully directed by Ernst Lubitsch, "To Be Or Not To Be" successfully rides a fine line between satire, comedy, drama, romance and action. The script, written by Melchior Lengyel and Edwin Justus Mayer is one of the best in all of film. It stars Carole Lombard, Jack Benny, Robert Stack, Felix Bressart, Lionel Atwill, Stanley Ridges, Sig Ruman, Tom Dugan and many more excellent actors. The movie feels timely while at the same time as presenting scenes that feel almost documentary and historical. It's an excellent movie and we highly recommend it.Check us out on Patreon at www.patreon.com/classicmoviereviews for even more content and bonus shows.
The Wheel Mill has been around for what seems like years and years with the amount of work that you see in every room of this Pittsburgh indoor bike park mecca. I've conducted so many interviews in various spots within the building with the most amazing people as they rolled through town. Gary Young, Brian Kachinsky, Mike and Mark Potoczny, Tom Dugan, Mike Cottle, Nina Buitrago, Sean Methven, Trey Jones, Isaac McCrea, Chris Doyle and the kids of the past two Next Generation Jams. I've also been fortunate to interview The Halahan's, Mason Ritter, Murphy Moschetta and Eric "Zoo" Miller outside of The Mill although they are each a big part of the park. This time I had the fortune to talk with the key people of The Wheel Mill, Harry Geyer and Mike Potoczny. As you will hear, these guys are passionate about their job and compliment each other so well. The Wheel Mill just celebrated their 6th year of public use but what many don't know is how much farther back Harry's passion for the park goes. Listen all at once or in chunks but don't skip through, there are lessons after lessons and then there are actual lessons! You can find The Wheel Mill on most media platforms as Thewheelmill.com or @thewheelmill Thank you Harry and Mike as well as all of the Pittsburgh cycling community for being involved in one of the best indoor parks in the world.
Marietta Stories | Crazy cool stories from the community builders of Marietta, Georgia
Tom Dugan brings his one man play, Wiesenthal, to Marietta's Strand Theatre May 29th through June 2nd. Tom's dad was a veteran who experienced the liberation of a Nazi concentration camp. Tom became a playwright and wrote the play after researching Simon Wiesenthal's Nazi hunting work. However, this play is a mixture of laughs (it starts with a joke) and the quest for justice. Sometimes you meet people in BMX that are so crazy on the bike and off that you can only assume how the conversation is going to go and just hold on tight. As Gary Young said, Tom (or Tommy as the girls say) is a free spirit. He ended up being so awesome to talk to. As it usually goes, the guest figures that 30-45 minutes is the limit for what they have to talk that may be interesting. I've never had that problem with this podcast and Tom was a believer when two hours flew by. It was super cool to have Gary Young surprise us by joining in as well! Anyway, Tom is a solid guy with amazing skills and no fear. So good to watch! Look for Tom on June 9th when the XGames Real BMX show airs on ABC. It is produced by Stew Johnson and judged by podcast guests Scotty Cranmer and Trey Jones (coming up next) while hosted by another past podcast guest, Chris Doyle! Pretty cool, can't wait! As always, please find this podcast through these podcast apps - iTunes, Tune In or Stitcher OR through the www.thebmxinourblood.com site where you can support the show through donating or buying merchandise safely. In this week's show, Tom Duggan of the Valley Patriot and his cohost, Paul Murano, of the Beneath The Surface radio show discuss both sides of gun control, the first amendment, and address why Arcadia Insurance is mentioning Tom Dugan during a public trial. Fred Vanmagnes has the real news as well. All that and much more on this week’s episode of The Paying Attention Podcast! For more information, check out latest edition of the Valley Patriot or www.ValleyPatriot.com.
We had the pleasure of personally hosting Tom Dugan and his wife all the way from Syracuse, NY. They were heading to SC on their anniversary trip and decided to crash with Dave and his family for the night. Some squats/bench was done, a lil steak and beer, and we recorded an episode on the spot. A number of topics were covered that included: How to get millennials active in church What is discipleship and how does it work Do we compete with the Holy Spirit to keep people coming to church? How do we church correctly? (This was hinted at but not discussed in too much length) Enjoy!
