With all the greatest love and admiration and with respect to all the behind-the-scenes skullduggery that took place while this film was made, we talk about Superman II -- the theatrical (Richard Lester) cut with comparison to The Donner Cut (because the seams were too unseemly and Dave went back and subsequently found it impossible to ignore in this discussion). We can't help but have real issues with Superman II...Join Our Riotous DC Debauch!Site: https://dconscreen.comStore: https://bit.ly/DCoStorePatreon: https://patreon.com/dconscreenApple: http://bit.ly/DCoSReviewSpotify: http://bit.ly/DCSCREENSpreaker: https://bit.ly/DCoSSpreaker

Disney connoisseurs Tim Babb from Can't Wait for Christmas and Charlie Ague from Closer to Christmas and Ague Designs are here with me to break it down!Joan Lunden and Ben Vereen host this Christmas parade with narration written by Doug Cody. Subsequently, Ben showed us a behind the scenes preview of “Captain EO” with Michael Jackson, George Lucas, and Francis Ford Coppola. After Cruella de Vil drove down, Mary Poppins and the Alice in Wonderland players glide down Main Street. Then Ben gave a stirring performance in Frontierland. The toy soldiers from “Babes in Toyland” march along, and Mickey and Minnie ride a coach behind them. The Gummi Bears, Goofy, and Donald follow on floats, accompanied by characters from Peter Pan, Chip and Dale, and the Hundred Acre Wood. Finally, Santa Claus himself flew in to close out the celebration.Steamboat musical number? Check. Ads for “Superman II”? Yep. Endless commercials from Eckerd and Gaines? Definitely! The Forbidden Worlds Film Festival reviews conclude with 1962's Japanese Moby Dick adaptation; The Whale God Mike & Spider-Dan delve into the 1962 kaiju/Moby Dick movie The Whale God, which Mike was hugely looking forward to watching but it has some controversial topics within – although it's not gratuitous, note the sexual assault trigger warning. Neither Mike or Dan had seen or heard of this movie before, due to its non-existent UK release, so they were excited to watch it on an IMAX screen at Forbidden Worlds – they review the movie in-depth, talking about the plot, dialogue and kaiju for the first 30 minutes, then give the trigger warning and discuss the sexual assault scenes and the plot implications & character reactions that follow. Although this is the last review, Mike & Dan still have some interviews to release, so keep an eye out for those before GCC returns to the more regular interview-style pods! “There're piles of skulls, which of course I appreciate” - Steve on the set design On this week's episode, Totally Cool Awesome 80s Month and the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza pay tribute to the late, great Val Kilmer with a convo about the super-fun Ron Howard fantasy flick, Willow! How amazing are Warwick and Val together on screen? Isn't it refreshing that Davis was just allowed to put a shirt on and be this character, without getting covered in prosthetics or whatever else? Wouldn't things have been just fine in this movie without the Brownies flying around? And how amazing is that two-headed Siskel & Ebert monster? PLUS: Queen Bavmorda accidentally touches The Ooze and becomes Super Bavmorda (and is also played by Kevin Nash)! Willow stars Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Jean Marsh, Patricia Hayes, Billy Barty, Mark Northover, Pat Roach, David Sternberg, Phil Fondacaro, Tony Cox, Kevin Pollak, Rick Overton, and Gavan O'Herlihy as Airk; directed by Ron Howard. Don't miss our next Worldwide Digital Event, happening Friday, June 20th at 9pm/eastern where we'll be LIVE talking about a total superhero all-timer, Superman II! Join us that night to revel in all the fun with Zod & Friends, everyone at the Daily Planet, and the two legendary performances from Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman! This week, Shat the Movies finally kneels before Zod—and listener Chris Lloyd—by reviewing Superman II (1980), the sequel that gave us Terrence Stamp's immortal sneer, Margot Kidder's bathrobe thirst, and Christopher Reeve's blue-eyed beefcake perfection. This episode dives headfirst into the Donner vs. Lester debate, asks how much ejaculate the Fortress of Solitude can handle, and questions Lois Lane's true intentions once Clark Kent drops the glasses—and the powers. Gene and Big D examine everything from Superman's bizarre morality and dubious revenge tactics to the wildly impractical Phantom Zone prison system. They also debate if memory-wiping kisses and cellophane logos deserve a place in superhero canon and why Perry White's newsroom features a threatening photo of Bill Cosby. Whether you're team “Mormon Dad Superman” or “Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex,” this episode delivers laughs, awkward truths, and more than a few inappropriate questions about Kryptonian sex. Plot Summary After banishing Kryptonian rebels General Zod, Ursa, and Non to the Phantom Zone, Superman continues his life as Clark Kent—until a hydrogen bomb explosion in space releases the trio. Landing on Earth, they gain Superman's powers from the yellow sun and quickly set their sights on global domination. Meanwhile, Lois Lane grows suspicious of Clark's identity, prompting him to reveal his secret and sacrifice his powers to be with her. But when Zod and his cronies begin wreaking havoc—and Lex Luthor joins their side—Superman must reclaim his abilities and protect humanity. The final showdown brings the villains to the Fortress of Solitude, where Superman uses brains over brawn to save the world, while also redefining the meaning of romantic boundaries with a memory-erasing kiss. Andrew & Tara keep their SUPERMAN MARATHON rolling down the road to James Gunn's Superman giving Superman III Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Andrew Gordon & Tara Erickson as they revisit the 1983 superhero romp Superman III, where Clark Kent / Superman (Christopher Reeve, Somewhere in Time, Superman II) faces his most unusual adversary yet—computer whiz Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor, Stir Crazy, Brewster's Millions). When small‐town tech genius Gus lands a gig with sinister oil baron Ross Webster (Robert Vaughn, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Bullitt), he's duped into synthesizing Kryptonite, creating an evil doppelgänger of the Man of Steel who rampages through Smallville in one of the film's most searched‐for scenes. Meanwhile, Lois Lane (Margot Kidder, The Amityville Horror, Black Christmas) juggles her investigative instincts with her growing suspicions about Superman's strange new behavior. Rounding out the cast are Annette O'Toole as Ross's calculating wife Vera Webster (noted for 3:10 to Yuma and later TV's Superman & Lois), Pamela Stephenson as socialite Lacy Warfield (comedian from Not The Nine O'Clock News), and Jackie Cooper as Daily Planet editor Perry White (the original Pete & Gladys), plus Marc McClure returning as the ever‐awed Jimmy Olsen (Superman, Superman II). Andrew & Tara break down every standout moment—from Gus's frantic Kryptonite heist in the Arctic and the iconic “Evil Superman” fight in a Glendale parking garage to the hilariously over‐the‐top spoof of technology run amok at Ross's private plane hangar. Don't miss their take on the unforgettable sequence where Superman's alter ego lounges in Smallville's diner, the cheeky “cloning” of Superman by synthetic Kryptonite, and the climactic rooftop showdown that forces Clark to reclaim his true heroism. Ilya Salkind is one of the movie's executive producers that started the superhero genre. Superman: The Movie in 1978 taught audiences that you can believe a man can fly. Salkind's father Alexander acquired the rights to make the movie, and its sequels, Superman II and Superman III. He also exec-produced 1984's Supergirl starring Helen Slater. In this episode, Salkind gives an in-depth conversation about making those movies. He discussed casting Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Gene Hackman, and the legendary Marlon Brando.
