For Cow Calf Producers, Implants Have A Clear Advantage There's a perception that non-implanted calves garner a higher premium on sale day than their implanted counterparts. However, data consistently shows no difference in sale price between implanted and non-implanted calves. Why Use Ralgro From Merck Animal Health RALGRO® (zeranol implants) increases weaning weight by 23 pounds on average compared to non-implanted calves, according to Merck Animal Health. With results like that, it's easy to see how cattle implants at the cow-calf level can result in a favorable payday. Free Standing Panels Vs. Permanent Fencing Free-Standing Panels Advantages: Portability: Can be moved or reconfigured easily for different livestock, seasons, or operational needs. Ideal for temporary or seasonal use. Quick Setup & Removal: Require no digging or permanent installation—set up in hours instead of days. Versatile Use: Can be used for corrals, sorting pens, alleyways, or even makeshift chutes or holding pens. Minimal Ground Disturbance: No need to dig post holes or pour concrete, preserving soil and reducing site impact. Ideal for Leasing or Shared Land: Can be used on rented property or rotated across pastures. Disadvantages: Less Durable in Harsh Conditions: More likely to shift, tip, or become unstable in high winds or with aggressive animals. Theft or Misplacement: More prone to being stolen or moved if not secured. Higher Long-Term Cost per Use: Although cheaper upfront than heavy-duty permanent structures, replacing or repairing worn panels can add up. Limited Size & Strength: Often not suitable for large or very strong animals unless reinforced or anchored. Permanent Fencing Advantages: Strength & Durability: More secure for large or aggressive livestock. Withstands weather and repeated use better over time. Low Maintenance (Long-Term): When built correctly with quality materials, requires less frequent repair. Increased Property Value: Adds permanent infrastructure, improving land resale or lease value. Security: Less likely to be tampered with, moved, or stolen. Disadvantages: Expensive Upfront: Higher costs for materials, labor, and installation. Inflexible: Cannot be moved or resized without significant effort and cost. Time-Consuming to Install: May take days or weeks to complete, especially for larger corrals or complex layouts. Requires Permanent Land Use Decision: Not ideal for rotational grazing systems or temporary setups. Which One to Choose? Use Free-Standing Panels if: You need flexibility, have limited budget upfront, are leasing land, or run a mobile or multi-site operation. Choose Permanent Fencing if: You want long-term security, own the land, manage large herds, or need infrastructure that stands the test of time. Traveling to Canada? Know what to pack, what to declare, and what to expect at customs. Smart travel starts here! What to Know Before Flying to Canada Traveling internationally—especially to Canada—requires a bit more preparation than domestic trips. Whether it's your first time or you're a seasoned traveler, here's what you should know before you board. Entry Requirements and Canadian Customs Tips Valid Passport: Make sure your passport is current and valid for the entire duration of your stay. U.S. travelers don't need a visa for visits under six months. ArriveCAN App: Travelers are encouraged to use the ArriveCAN app to provide customs and immigration information ahead of time. What to Declare: Be honest—declare all food, alcohol, and goods. Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) takes violations seriously. Duties and Limits: Know your duty-free allowances. Canadians returning home have specific exemptions for goods and alcohol, which vary by time spent abroad. What to Pack for a Smooth Trip Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Canada's weather can vary dramatically. Layers are key! Travel Documents: Keep your passport, boarding pass, and ArriveCAN receipt handy with an electronic copy on your phone. Remember to file your “Customs Declaration” within 72 hours of departure on airlines for faster customs processing. Electronics & Adapters: Canada uses 120V (same as the U.S.), so most electronics are compatible. Health & Insurance Info: It's smart to travel with proof of insurance and any necessary prescriptions. It is highly recommended that prescriptions are in original bottles from the pharmacy. If those bottles are large, advise the pharmacy of international travel and ask for smaller labelled bottles with enough for the “planned” trip as well as an extra week's supply incase of an emergency. Stay Connected on the Go Cellular Carrier: When flying internationally even if just over the border it is extremely important to contact your cell phone carrier (Example: Verizon, AT&T, Sprint) to verify if your plan covers all of the countries that will be visited. Roaming fees are expensive. If your plan does NOT cover, for example Canada, ask for a “Travel Pass” to be added to your cell phone or data plan which are typically significantly cheaper than roaming fees. Consider a Canadian SIM card or an international roaming plan to stay in touch during your trip. Wi-Fi & Internet: Free Wi-Fi is common in airports, cafes, and hotels, but rural areas may have limited service. To avoid “Roaming Charges” always place the phone on “Airplane Mode”, connect to the available Wi-Fi, and change the final setting to enable “Wi-Fi Calling.” No Roaming Fees: To be absolutely sure that you are not on roaming data, after putting phone / tablet on “Airplane Mode” with “Wi-Fi” connect. Consider using apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Facetime or Google Meet to stay connected with others. OUTDOORS FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS We want to hear from you! Episode 82 Oklahoma joins the list of states to enact meat labeling laws. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt last week signed into law a measure requiring manufactured protein products to be labeled differently from meat. House Bill 1126 requires food manufacturers, distributors and retailers to clearly disclose that cell-cultivated or cultured products or those that come from a lab, plants or insect proteins are not meat. Those convicted of false advertising could face a misdemeanor. The law places the burden of proof on the manufacturer and not the retailer. Oklahoma's Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry would be responsible for investigating complaints that food products are falsely advertised or misbranded as meat products. The act takes effect Nov. 1. Several U.S. states have enacted or proposed laws regulating the labeling of meat and alternative protein products, particularly focusing on plant-based and cell-cultured (lab-grown) meats. These laws aim to ensure transparency for consumers and protect traditional meat industries.AP News+7The Guardian+7National Agricultural Law Center+7 States with Enacted Meat Labeling Laws Missouri: In 2018, Missouri became the first state to pass a law prohibiting misrepresentation of products as meat if they are not derived from harvested livestock or poultry. AP News Arizona and Tennessee: Considered legislation to ban cell-cultured meat; however, the bills did not pass in the 2024 legislative sessions. Penn State Agricultural Law Center+2National Agricultural Law Center+2Houston Chronicle+2 Federal Regulations At the federal level, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees meat labeling through the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). In March 2024, the USDA finalized a rule allowing the voluntary use of "Product of USA" or "Made in the USA" labels on meat, poultry, and egg products only when they are derived from animals born, raised, slaughtered, and processed in the United States. USDA Summary The landscape of meat labeling laws in the U.S. is evolving, with several states enacting or proposing legislation to regulate the labeling of alternative meat products. These laws vary in scope, with some focusing on prohibiting specific terminology and others imposing outright bans on certain products. The federal government also plays a role in standardizing labeling practices to ensure consumer transparency. U.S.–China Trade War Eases with Major Tariff Reductions on Meat Exports In a significant development for U.S. agriculture, the ongoing U.S.–China trade war eased this week following a new 90-day tariff reduction agreement. The deal brings temporary relief to U.S. meat exporters who have faced steep trade barriers in the Chinese market. Under the agreement, U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods will drop from 145% to 30%, while China's retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products, including meat, will fall from 125% to 10%. The reductions officially took effect on Wednesday, May 14th, signaling progress as both nations continue trade negotiations. China, the world's largest beef importer, remains a critical market for U.S. meat. In 2024 alone, U.S. exports to China included nearly $1.6 billion in beef, $1.1 billion in pork, and $490 million in poultry meat and products. This temporary tariff relief offers a much-needed boost to American meat producers and exporters while long-term trade talks continue. REFERENCE: https://www.meatingplace.com/Industry/News/Details/119098 USDA Closes U.S. Border to Livestock Imports Amid Northward Spread of New World Screwworm (NWS) The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has once again closed the southern border to live cattle, horses, and bison imports due to the ongoing detection and rapid spread of New World Screwworm or NWS, in southern Mexico. This latest decision follows continued reports of the parasite advancing further north than previously observed—up to 700 miles from the U.S. border. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced the immediate suspension of livestock imports through U.S. ports of entry along the southern border. This action comes after the border had temporarily reopened in early February following enhanced inspections and biosecurity protocols. The border was initially closed in November of the previous year due to similar concerns. The New World Screwworm (Cochliomyia hominivorax) poses a significant threat to livestock health and U.S. agriculture. Though eradicated from the United States in 1966, NWS has reemerged in remote areas of southern Mexico, including on farms with limited cattle movement. The pest's resurgence is being treated with high urgency by both U.S. and Mexican officials. To combat the spread, USDA-APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service) is working closely with Mexican authorities to increase the release of sterile screwworm flies, the primary method for controlling the pest. This sterile fly technique had successfully helped maintain a barrier zone in southern Mexico and later extended into Panama, serving as a buffer for decades. However, over the past two years, the screwworm has advanced through Central America and back into Mexico, creating an escalating threat to U.S. livestock industries. USDA-APHIS and Mexican counterparts will continue aggressive surveillance, monitoring, and mitigation efforts to stop the spread. The border will remain closed until USDA determines that the risk has been sufficiently mitigated and disease metrics improve. The decision to suspend cattle imports from Mexico has led to a downward revision in projected U.S. beef production for 2025 and 2026, according to the agency's latest WAZ-de Report, World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates. The report cites tighter cattle supplies and reduced slaughter volumes tied to the import halt as key drivers behind the lower forecasts. Beef exports are also forecast lower as limited domestic supplies are expected to reduce U.S. competitiveness abroad. Griddle vs. Grill: Which One's Better for BBQing Beef? Benefits of Using a Griddle for BBQ Great for smash burgers, fajitas, Philly cheesesteaks Even heat and no flare-ups Easy to clean and ideal for small patios or RV setups Why You Might Prefer a Traditional Grill Adds smoky flavor from charcoal or wood Better for steaks, kabobs, and ribs Authentic sear marks and a backyard BBQ vibe Verdict — Use What Fits Your BBQ Style Choose a griddle for convenience, consistent heat, and multitasking (think: onions + patties at once) Choose a grill for high-heat searing, smoke, and bold beef flavor Top 5 Expert Beef BBQ Tips for Flavor & Juiciness 1. Choose the Right Cut Go for marbled cuts like ribeye or chuck for flavor Leaner cuts like sirloin or flank work better with marinades 2. Don't Overhandle the Meat Pressing burgers too hard or flipping too often = dry beef Remove steaks from the refrigerator, "warm-up" on the counter at least 30 minutes prior to grilling. 3. Season Simply but Generously Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are enough Use rubs for roasts and brisket — let them sit 1+ hour before cooking 4. Let It Rest Before removing from heat, add a pat of butter to melt on the steak during the resting stage. Always let beef rest 5–10 minutes after grilling to lock in juices 5. Invest in a Meat Thermometer Ideal internal temps: Burgers: 160°F (medium) Steaks: 130°F (medium rare), 145°F (medium) Brisket: 195°F–205°F for perfect pull-apart texture OUTDOORS FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS We want to hear from you! Authorities uncovered a treasure trove of over 300 protected species, including eagles and falcons. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service called it "an unprecedented display of arrogance and disregard for federal law." Busted: $900,000 Fine in Largest Taxidermy Bird Sting in U.S. History According to OutdoorLife.com; A Georgia man has been fined a whopping $900,000 in what authorities are calling the largest taxidermy bird bust in U.S. history. Dr. John Waldrop of Cataula, Georgia, was sentenced this week for illegally trafficking thousands of rare and endangered bird mounts and eggs from around the world — including some species possibly extinct. Federal agents say Waldrop smuggled over 1,400 bird mounts and nearly 2,600 eggs between 2016 and 2020, using fake shipping info and even recruiting his farm's caretaker to help hide the shipments. His massive collection included protected eagles, rare parrots, and songbird eggs — many of which didn't have the permits required by law. Some of the birds and eggs were from species so rare, no U.S. museum has them, including three eggs from an Asian shorebird with only around 1,000 left in the wild. Officials say Waldrop created demand that fueled illegal poaching across Africa, Asia, and South America. Waldrop pled guilty, was fined $900,000 and will serve three years of probation. His caretaker got six months. Authorities say the case shows just how seriously wildlife trafficking is being taken — and how much it can cost when the law is broken. EPISODE 78 DETAILS U.S.-China Tariff War Cripples Agricultural Exports as Industry Faces Major Setbacks Triple-Digit Tariffs Disrupt U.S. Beef, Poultry, and Pork Exports to China and Hong Kong Triple-digit tariff rates on goods traded between the United States and China have “effectively closed that market for U.S. exports,” according to a source quoted by Politico from the agriculture industry. Despite the sharp decline in imports, China still purchased $25 billion worth of U.S. food and agricultural products last year. “Making up for that around the world is going to be very challenging,” the source emphasized. The Trump administration recently imposed new tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese goods, compounding already substantial levies. In response, China retaliated with tariffs reaching 125% on U.S. exports. Since early March, U.S. beef exports to China have come to a near standstill following Beijing's declaration that U.S. export licenses were no longer valid. Even before the full retaliation in early April, U.S. chicken exports to China dropped by 48% in February compared to the same month last year. In 2024, China and Hong Kong together accounted for $525 million in U.S. poultry meat and products (excluding eggs), ranking as the third-largest export market behind Mexico and Canada. Beef exports reached nearly $2 billion, just behind South Korea, while pork exports to the region surpassed $1.1 billion, trailing only Mexico and Japan. It's The Ranch It Up Radio Show! Join me - Jeff Tigger Erhardt, Rebecca Wanner AKA BEC and my crew as we hear all about the how and why of virtual fencing. Could it work for your outfit? Plus, news, markets and a whole lot of the cow stuff that you will only get on this all new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show. Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on the Ranch It Up Radio Show YouTube Channel. Season 5, EPISODE 233 Virtual Fencing For Livestock Management Vence, developed by Merck Animal Health, is an innovative virtual fencing system designed to manage cattle movement without traditional physical fences. Utilizing GPS-enabled collars and solar-powered base stations, Vence allows ranchers to define and adjust grazing boundaries remotely, enhancing rotational grazing practices and reducing labor and fencing costs. How Virtual Fence From Vence Fence Works Base Stations: Solar-powered units are strategically placed to communicate with the collars, covering 5,000 to 10,000 acres depending on terrain. CattleRider Collars: Each cow wears a collar equipped with GPS and RF transceivers to track location and communicate with base stations. HerdManager System: Ranchers use this platform to set and modify virtual boundaries via tablet or computer, facilitating dynamic grazing management. Merck Animal Health USA Animal Guidance: As cattle approach virtual boundaries, collars emit sound cues; if ignored, a humane electric pulse is applied. Cattle learn to respond to these cues, minimizing the need for physical barriers. EPISODE 77 DETAILS Trump Proposes Legal Return for Undocumented Farmworkers Farm Labor in the Spotlight Amid Deportation Plans During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, President Donald Trump proposed a potential exception to his broader deportation agenda—specifically for undocumented farmworkers. Trump suggested that some of these workers could legally return to the United States if they first leave the country and are later vouched for by American farmers. "We're going to work with farmers … for certain people, that we're going to let them stay in for a while and work … and then come back and go through a legal process," Trump stated. A Workforce at Risk: Half of U.S. Farm Labor Is Undocumented According to a report by the Center for Migration Studies, approximately 50% of the U.S. agricultural workforce is undocumented. This includes critical roles in not just crop farming but also in the meat and dairy industries—sectors heavily reliant on immigrant labor. Farm groups have long cautioned that aggressive immigration enforcement could severely disrupt food production, leading to potential labor shortages, increased food prices, and long-term instability in the agricultural supply chain. Farmers as Gatekeepers to Legal Status? While the president didn't provide specific policy details, his comments suggest that a farm-based sponsorship system could be part of future immigration reform efforts. Under this concept, farmers would play a pivotal role in identifying workers essential to their operations who might qualify for temporary or permanent legal status. Industry Response: Balancing Enforcement and Economic Reality Agricultural leaders have expressed concern about the consequences of mass deportations on their ability to sustain operations. Many argue that a pragmatic, stable guest-worker program is critical for the future of American agriculture. By offering a potential path for legal return, even with initial deportation, Trump's remarks may indicate some recognition of the industry's dependence on this labor force. Cattle Industry News Trump's Tariffs Trigger Chinese Retaliation, Impacting U.S. Meat Exports President Donald Trump ordered new tariffs on Chinese goods, raising total duties to 104% starting Wednesday in response to China's retaliation against earlier U.S. measures. In return, China imposed steep tariffs on U.S. meat—56% on beef and 81% on pork—effective Thursday, according to the U.S. Meat Export Federation. This move threatens a major market, as China and Hong Kong were the third-largest U.S. pork buyers at $1.14 billion and the second-largest for beef at nearly $2 billion last year. Meanwhile, Mexico—America's top pork buyer—has not yet responded to separate U.S. tariffs outside the USMCA agreement. Visit a Greenhouse or Botanical Garden: Once the weather warms, we all get the itch to be outside. On the days not so nice, take a stroll through a local greenhouse or botanical garden to become inspired on what your gardening plans might look like. A great way to educate yourself on the various plants that will thrive in your climate zone. Enjoy A Bike Ride: Get the bicycle out, air up the tires and hit the trail or road. The weather is perfect for a sweatshirt or light jacket plus the addition of seeing nature along the way makes for a perfect biking combination… just don't forget the helmet! WHY COOK ON GAS GRIDDLE BBQ; HOW TO SEASON & MAINTAIN A GRIDDLE Grilling in the bbq world or using a smoker has been a long lasting tradition when it comes to the outdoors. If you haven't purchased a griddle to try, you might realize you are missing out. We jumped on the bandwagon of adding the outdoor propane griddle a few years back. As a result of the diversity, we now own two in different sizes. The first purchase was a 4 burner propane gas Pit Boss Griddle. We chose this one for the front grease cleanout location as where the griddle stays on our cabin deck, that is more accessible. The second purchase was a 17” propane gas Blackstone Griddle. After realizing how easy it was to cook all our meals on the larger version, we opted for a more compact one to take along camping, going to the lake or for picnics. CONS OF BBQING: Regardless if it is a Griddle, Grill or Smoker; we have learned the same issue applies and that is providing an area with minimal wind. Now there are “windshields” one can make or build, but we have had to watch the wind regardless when using any of these. NOTE: Do not use a griddle, grill or smoker inside of buildings. GRIDDLE SEASONING & MAINTENANCE Once purchasing a griddle, before use it is an ABSOLUTE MUST that one reads the manufacturer's booklet regarding the Preparation, Seasoning and Maintenance of the griddle to ensure the longevity of the cooking top but also so that food doesn't stick and tastes desirable. 5 Easy Steps To Season A Gas Griddle BBQ Rust Removal: New or Old moisture may collect on the cooking surface causing a patch of rust or a rough spot. Scrub away any rust or rough spots using a Scotch Brite pad. Clean Griddle: If the griddle is new from the factory, it may come with a thin oil coating. To clean us a small amount of mild dish soap in warm water to remove the factory coating. Proceed to also wipe off everything else after use with a clean damp cloth. Seasoning A Griddle: A griddle must be seasoned before use. First turn all burners on high heat, allowing for the griddle cooking surface to begin changing color. Using high smoke point cooking oil like flaxseed, drizzle it all over the surface. Careful it is HOT. Have ready a pair of tongs or heat-resistant gloves, take a lint-free cloth as the goal is to evenly wipe or coat the entire cooking surface including the tight corners as well as the outside of the griddle surface. Wait and Repeat 3x: This is a slow process, and needs to be repeated a minimum of three times. The oil will start to smoke with the burners being on High. Wait until you see that the smoke has stopped. Drizzle and wipe another coating of oil thoroughly. Repeat the process until there have been at least 3 applications. READ YOUR GRIDDLE SEASONING INSTRUCTIONS. Coat To Protect: Once the initial oil seasoning is complete, turn the burners off so that the surface may cool to where it is warm to the touch. Using a lint free cloth, begin wiping a sealing product such as BuzzyWaxx (beeswax). Bacon Up - Bacon Grease, or manufacturer's of griddles offer their own products. A thin coat is all that is needed, just make sure you reach all the corners. After completing these 5 simple steps, your griddle is ready for breakfast, lunch or dinner! So now start slinging some hash, becoming your own hibachi backyard grill or even try baking cookies - ENJOY! Season 5, EPISODE 231 Sustainable Beef: A Processing Plant Where Color Doesn't Matter New Beef Processing Plant With Competitive Fed Cattle Grid Premiums The Red Angus Association of America (RAAA) recently showcased an innovative fed cattle grid pricing system at the NCBA Trade Show. This system, adopted by Sustainable Beef LLC, is set to transform the industry by offering competitive premiums for upper two-thirds Choice carcasses, regardless of hide color. Angus, Red Angus & Charolais Cross Cattle Receive Same Premium Tom Brink, RAAA CEO, announced that Sustainable Beef LLC, opening in April 2025 in North Platte, Nebraska, will implement a color-blind grid system, equally rewarding Red Angus, Black Angus, and smoky cattle. “This system levels the feeder calf market, allowing feedlots to confidently invest in Red Angus and black-hided cattle, knowing both will qualify for top premiums,” Brink said. Kelly Smith, RAAA Director of Commercial Marketing, emphasized RAAA's efforts to connect Red Angus producers with feedlots through its feeder cattle network. He highlighted that FCCP-tagged cattle will meet the Angus label's genetic verification standards, ensuring seamless access to premium marketing opportunities. Mark Nelson, Sustainable Beef's Director of Cattle Procurement, reinforced the company's commitment to sustainability and producer profitability. Sustainable Beef will provide an exceptional work environment and favor moderate carcass sizes, which naturally benefits Red Angus genetics. The RAAA-Sustainable Beef collaboration represents a significant step forward in ensuring equitable market opportunities for all quality cattle. This initiative will drive profitability for producers while delivering high-quality beef to consumers. For more details, visit RedAngus.org. Cattle Industry News JBS Sees Strong Demand Despite Challenges In The U.S. Cattle Cycle According to JBS executives, JBS expects a more challenging US cattle supply scenario in 2025 compared to last year, when strong beef consumption and initiatives to improve commercial and operational efficiencies contributed to the performance of the US beef business unit. Executives commented saying that the U.S. cattle cycle will likely be more challenging this year, regardless of the speed of herd replacement, specifically saying that JBS Beef North America's margins still have room to improve by 1% to 1.5% in 2025 due to the company's initiatives to improve commercial and operational efficiencies. Robust demand continues to support the company's investments in expanding its US meat processing and prepared food facilities. In February, JBS announced $200 million in investments to expand its beef production facilities in Cactus, Texas, and Greeley, Colo. In the other regions where JBS operates, demand for all animal proteins also remains strong. Discover fascinating facts about bighorn sheep, their habitats, and the Grand Slam of Sheep Hunting, plus top states for record-breaking bighorns. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 231 What's a Group of Bighorn Sheep Called? Bighorn sheep, one of North America's most iconic animals, live in social groups that are referred to as a herd instead of a flock. These majestic creatures are known for their impressive curled horns and can be found in rugged terrains across the western United States and Canada. Their social structures and unique behaviors make them fascinating creatures to observe. Which State Has the Largest Bighorn Sheep? Montana, Idaho, or Colorado? When it comes to size and record-breaking Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, Montana stands out. Over the last few years, three of the top five Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep recorded by the Boone and Crockett Club came from a small area in northwestern Montana, specifically Wild Horse Island. This remarkable location, just off the western shore of Flathead Lake, has produced some of the largest bighorns in history. Why Montana is a Hotspot for Bighorn Sheep Wild Horse Island, situated in Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, is a prime habitat for bighorn sheep. It's on this island that some of the most impressive Rocky Mountain bighorns have been found. The area's rugged terrain and abundant resources make it an ideal location for these incredible animals to thrive. Bighorn Sheep: True or False? Males and Females Live Together in Herds False: Males and females do not typically live together in the same herd. Bighorn sheep have distinct social structures. Rams (males) typically form bachelor groups, while ewes (females) live in herds with other females and their young. Female-led herds are organized and have specific roles: some act as guardians or leaders, while others may serve as babysitters for the young. Male-only herds, on the other hand, can consist of 5 to 50 rams at any given time, while female herds are larger, typically ranging from 5 to 100 members. The Grand Slam in Sheep Hunting: What Are the 4 Species? For hunters seeking the ultimate challenge, the Grand Slam of Sheep Hunting is a prestigious achievement. It includes four distinct species of North American sheep: Dall Sheep: Found in Alaska, Yukon, and Northwest Territories. Stone Sheep: Found in British Columbia and the Yukon. Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep: Found in the western U.S., including the Rocky Mountains. Desert Bighorn Sheep: Found in the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. The Grand Slam Club Founded in 1956, the Grand Slam Club/Ovis recognizes hunters who successfully bag all four species. To date, fewer than 1,400 people worldwide have accomplished this feat. Achieving the North American Sheep Grand Slam is a rare and highly respected milestone in the hunting community. Desert Bighorn Sheep: The Most Expensive of the Bighorns Among these species, Desert Bighorn Sheep are often considered the most expensive and challenging to hunt due to their rarity and the remote locations they inhabit. Conclusion Bighorn sheep are fascinating creatures with unique social structures, diverse habitats, and remarkable species. Whether you're interested in their role in the wild, looking to track record-breaking bighorns, or hoping to achieve a Grand Slam in sheep hunting, understanding these majestic animals enhances the experience. From Montana's Wild Horse Island to the vast landscapes of Wyoming, the pursuit of these extraordinary animals continues to captivate wildlife enthusiasts and hunters alike. Beef Sales To China Plummet March 2025 Showed A Dramatic Drop Is Beef Sales To China New data from the USDA revealed steep declines in beef sales to China following the expiration of trade licenses. According to USDA/FAS data collected by USMEF, beef net sales to China for March 7-13 "plummeted" 92% from the previous week, and for March 14-20, they fell 97%. Overall through March 20, beef net sales to all countries are 43% lower than the previous four-week average. Additional analysis from Steiner Consulting Group found that outstanding beef sales to China are 24% lower year over year. The trade licenses, which were granted in the "Phase 1" trade deal with China in 2020, provide hundreds of U.S. meat plants with access to the Chinese market. However, following a 20% U.S. tariff on all Chinese exports, the Chinese Communist Party promised "strong, powerful countermeasures," which have included not only the expiring licenses, but also additional tariffs on exports of U.S. poultry (15%) and pork (10%). Trade licenses to pork and poultry processors were renewed. According to FAS, China was the U.S.' No. 3 agricultural export market in 2024, with $1.58 billion in beef, $1.11 billion in pork, and $490.11 million in poultry sales. While avian influenza had already been detected in cattle and other mammals, including in the United States, the infection of a sheep will increase concern over the potential impact of the disease's spread. There have been cases among humans which have ranged in severity from no symptoms to, in rare cases, death. But there has not yet been any confirmed transmission between humans. The virus is spread through contact with infected birds or other species, including through touching their droppings and bedding, although people can also catch the virus by killing or preparing infected poultry for cooking. Avian flu has been detected in cattle in the United States, with the Centers for Disease Control reporting 41 cases and 989 dairy herds affected as of last Friday. Experts say the risk of avian flu to the general public is very low. Mexico Pushing For More Domestic Pork Facing Trade War Mexico has become a huge importer of U.S. pork, but the government in Mexico City is now talking about self-sufficiency as trade tensions with Washington are about to intensify. In a recent meeting with domestic producers, the Mexican Agriculture Minister pointed out that the country's own pork sector only meets 53% of demand. Imports last year reached 1.4 million metric tons, a large majority from the neighboring United States. President Donald Trump, in early February, threatened 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada, imposed taxes on large numbers of imports from both countries in early March and has vowed to tariff most other products on April 2. Canada has already retaliated against some U.S. products including chicken, while Mexico is poised to impose tariffs on exports including meats if the United States carries out its threat next week. Pork demand has soared as Mexico has become more affluent. Last year, 38% of U.S. pork and pork variety meat exports went to Mexico. By value, exports to Mexico jumped 10% in 2024 to nearly $2.6 billion, more than the next two markets, China/Hong Kong and Japan combined. The value of U.S. pork exports to Mexico has more than doubled from $1.15 billion in 2020, and the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service projected further growth this year before trade policy disruptions. Sustainable Beef Plant Comes To Nebraska A crowd estimated at more than 1,200 people witnessed a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a $400-million cattle processing plant this week in North Platte, Neb., a project that Sustainable Beef LLC originally announced in 2021. The new facility is expected to provide about 850 jobs and expand beef processing capacity in the area in addition to establishing more long-term sustainable growth for local cattle producers and family farms. The facility is expected to process an estimated 1,500 head per day, according to Sustainable Beef officials. We will have more on Sustainable Beef LLC and its new fed cattle grid pricing system with Red Angus Cattle on next week's program. The family's plane, a Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser, crashed Sunday evening during a sightseeing trip. As night fell, the pilot and his daughters, who have not been identified, were forced to cling to the wing of the plane, waiting in the freezing cold for help. It wasn't long before the tight-knit community of Alaska's bush pilots sprang into action. When the plane was first reported missing, local pilots immediately rallied to join the search. By Monday morning, a group of volunteers, including pilot Terry Godes, took to the skies in their own planes, hoping to spot the wreckage. Godes, who had seen a Facebook post about the missing family, was the first to spot the plane, with the family waving from the wing, signaling they were still alive. After Godes radioed in the location, the Alaska State Troopers and National Guard were quickly alerted. The National Guard sent in a C-130 transport plane and a helicopter for the rescue operation, but conditions were challenging. The ice was too soft to land on, and the rotor wash threatened to blow the children off the wing. Despite these difficulties, the National Guard performed a flawless, one-of-a-kind recovery, saving the family from the icy wilderness. The pilot and his daughters were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The rescue, which involved the quick thinking and coordination of local pilots, the Alaska State Troopers, and the National Guard, was a testament to the strength of Alaska's community and the courage of those who risked their lives to bring a family home safely. EPISODE 74 DETAILS Consumer Meat Trends: Ground Beef No. 1 Millennial Meat Consumers Prefer Ground Beef Over All Other Meats Consumer trends, food trends, how have these trends changed? Who is consuming our product and why. That was the purpose of the Power of Meat Presentation at the 2025 Annual Meat Conference. The 20th such survey, the Power of Meat polled more than 1,600 consumers, and overlaid their responses with data from in-person consumer interviews and various other avenues with particular attention given to millennial shoppers as they start to take the place as meat consumers. According to the survey, ground beef was the number 1 food category of the year – among 85,000 other foods - in terms of dollar growth from 2023 to 2024, and chicken was not far behind at No. 10. All told, ground beef sales last year were up 9.6% to $15.3 billion, with unit sales up 6.8% to $1.6 billion. With a lot of focus on the millennial shopper here are some of the compelling trends that were established: With 94% of consumers concerned about the cost of living (“astronomical” was a frequent word among surveys), and the average price per unit of meat up 34% from 2019, more and more consumers want to recreate the restaurant experience at home; as a result, retail sales for meat reached $104.6 billion in 2024 (up 1%), and pounds hit 22.8 billion (up 2.3%). 72% of consumers said they'd return to normal restaurant purchases if their budget allowed it. Of the meat case's 2024 growth in units sold, millennials accounted for 62% of that growth, and for dollar sales growth. The survey showed opportunities for processors to advertise specific features on their product's packaging, including: cook times; proper cooking appliances (especially air fryers for millennials); the nutrients in meat, such as zinc and iron; and finally, messaging around animal welfare, which is prominent in the UK and other European markets. Learn about skunk mating season, how to handle skunk spray on your dog, and check out the best gadget gift ideas for your home or cabin. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 229 Skunk Mating Season Skunk mating season runs from February through March, bringing stronger odors into neighborhoods. Male skunks travel up to six miles to find a mate. The pungent smell is part of their courtship rituals. Females release strong odors to repel unwanted males, and males may even fight over a mate, intensifying the smell. Dealing with Skunk Odors on a Dog If you or your dog gets sprayed, here's a simple DIY solution: Mix hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap to neutralize the scent. Be cautious near your pet's eyes and fur, as the peroxide may bleach. Wear OLD CLOTHES. Mix 3 to 4 parts 3% hydrogen peroxide to 1 part baking soda, along with a teaspoon of dish detergent. Apply this mixture to your dog while it's still bubbling IMPORTANT KEY WARNINGS: Do not use the solution near your dog's eyes, and be careful when applying around the mouth. Peroxide may bleach your dog's fur, an effect that is especially noticeable on black or brown dogs. Peroxide may also bleach any other material it comes in contact with, like clothing, towels or furniture. Skunk Safety Tips Keep pets on a leash outside to avoid skunk encounters. Ensure your dog's rabies vaccinations are current, as skunks can carry rabies. Gadget Hot Buys: Gifts & Home Essentials Looking for gift ideas or practical items for your home? EPISODE 73 DETAILS Pork & Poultry To China; Beef Left Waiting U.S. Pork and Poultry Exports to China Resume, But Beef Industry Awaits License Renewals In a significant development for U.S. agriculture, pork and poultry producers have regained access to Chinese markets, while beef exporters remain in limbo. The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) recently restored export licenses for over 300 U.S. pork processing and cold storage facilities, securing trade for the next five years. However, U.S. beef companies are still waiting for confirmation that their "expired" licenses under the Phase 1 trade agreement will be renewed. China Reopens Market For U.S. Pork & Poultry According to the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), the agreement reinstates billions of dollars in U.S. pork and poultry exports. Major producers such as Cargill Inc., Smithfield Foods, and Tyson Foods Inc. will now resume shipments to China, ensuring steady demand for American meat products. In 2024 alone, U.S. pork exports to China totaled over 367,000 metric tons, valued at approximately $1.1 billion. Uncertainty Looms For U.S. Beef Exports Despite these positive developments, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has confirmed that the recent license renewals did not extend to beef producers. The U.S. beef industry exported an estimated 170,000 metric tons to China in 2024, making it a critical market. However, industry analysts at Stephens Inc. caution that uncertainty remains until the registration status is clarified. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) noted that China has yet to respond to renewal requests for U.S. beef export registrations. Over the past few days, the registration status of U.S. meat exports shifted from "existing" to "expired," raising concerns within the industry. Without clarity from Chinese authorities, American beef producers face potential trade disruptions. Implication For U.S. Beef Producers With pork and poultry exports back on track, the focus now shifts to securing access for U.S. beef. Industry leaders and trade officials continue to push for renewed agreements, emphasizing the importance of stability in international trade. As the situation unfolds, stakeholders in the U.S. beef sector remain hopeful for a resolution that reinstates access to one of the world's largest meat markets. Stay tuned for updates on this developing trade issue and its impact on the U.S. meat industry. Plus updates on the tariff war, news, sale recaps, cattle sale info and market commentary that you will only get on this all new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show. Season 5, EPISODE 228 Electronic ID Tags Q & A & News And Tariff Updates What Are The Pro's & Con's Of Electronic Animal I.D. Electronic Identification Tags From Merck As the leading provider of EID tags and readers through the Allflex® brand, Merck Animal Health wants to support cattle producers in their decision-making with the expertise and solutions they need. Key Distinctions With Official ID Rules The new policy only applies to interstate movement. Other exemptions include direct-to-slaughter cattle and sexually intact cattle (and bison) under 18 months of age. Animals that will need electronically and visually readable tags when they enter interstate movement include: Sexually intact cattle and bison 18 months or older All dairy cattle, including beef-on-dairy crossbred animals Cattle and bison of any age used for rodeo, recreation events, shows or exhibitions Another important detail: Visual ear tags applied before Nov. 5, 2024, will be recognized as official IDs for the life of the animal. They'll be grandfathered in and will not need an EID. Easing The Financial Burden Producers and the livestock industry have raised concerns about the potential cost burden of the new tagging policies. Congress recently directed USDA-APHIS to allocate no less than $15 million for the cost of tags and related infrastructure to help offset those costs.2 Producers may be able to access EID tags for free via their state veterinarian. They can apply those tags at approved tagging sites. Producers can also buy EIDs directly from a distributor, online vendor or local dealer and apply the tags themselves. In addition, producers are not required to invest in tag-reading hardware or software, unless they choose to do so for herd management and record keeping. The EID tags can be used the same way as visual tags. Addressing Data Privacy Concerns EID tags are encoded with a number that identifies the animal, but no owner-specific information. The data associated with the tags will be stored in various federal and state databases. Access to that data will also be restricted to the state and federal officials responsible for managing high-impact diseases of the cattle industry. USDA agnostic on EID tags USDA isn't mandating or recommending any one brand of ear tag. Tags must be approved by the department and will be imprinted with the Official Eartag Shield. The Allflex radio frequency ID (RFID) tags offered by Merck Animal Health meet these standards. They use a short-read range that doesn't interfere with radio frequencies commonly found in livestock operations. Allflex tags do not include any global positioning system (GPS) capabilities. Producers also use these RFID tags to track health protocols, performance, reproduction and genetics. The new tagging requirements are intended to bolster the industry's tracing capabilities in the event of a disease outbreak. Contact your Merck Animal Health representative or tag supplier to find out how Allflex tags can help you comply with these rules while managing your beef or dairy operation more efficiently. On Monday, the Chinese government implemented new tariffs on a variety of U.S. agricultural products, including meat products. China's tariff on U.S. pork will increase from 37% to 47%, while its tariff on U.S. beef will rise from 12% to 22%. Additionally, U.S. poultry products now face a 15% tariff. According to USDA analysis, China and Hong Kong account for 5% of U.S. poultry exports, 15% of pork exports, and 14% of beef exports. Announced last week, the tariffs are a retaliation against a new 20% U.S. tariff on Chinese goods, and also cover wheat, corn, cotton, sorghum, soybeans, fruits and vegetables, dairy and fish. China also blocked 15 U.S. companies from buying Chinese products, and another 10 companies from doing business in China; those companies, though, are not in agriculture. In a March 8 press release from the Chinese government, the Foreign Minister told the United States to rethink what it has achieved from the tariff and trade wars these years — whether its trade deficit has widened or narrowed, whether its manufacturing has become more or less competitive, whether its inflation has gone up or down, and whether the lives of its people have become better or worse. Tariffs: Canada Keeps Poultry Tariffs, Postpones Beef & Pork Canada's 25% tariffs on imports of U.S. chicken will remain in place, while the looming start of an identical levy against beef and pork has been postponed until April 2. The Canadian Finance Minister announced the decisions, after the U.S. President Donald Trump signed orders postponing or easing 25% tariffs on large amounts of Canadian and Mexican goods. Trump placed tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, demanding more action against drug trafficking and illegal border crossing, while claiming that trade deficits constituted “subsidies” to the United States' neighbors. In the Oval Office, a White House aide said that the latest executive order excludes goods certified for entry under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) from 25% tariffs until April 2, when Trump is threatening to impose “reciprocal” global tariffs. Cars and car parts will be temporarily spared, while Canadian potash — an important fertilizer — will only be taxed at 10% “in order to help our farmers at this crucial time of year. The aide went on to say, quote, “So this is a modification to our tariff regime to protect American car manufacturers and American farmers.” The fast-moving trade wrangling between the North American governments follows concerns voiced by Democrats and some Farm Belt Republicans in Congress about disrupted trade with two of the biggest customers for U.S. agricultural goods, especially meat. Canada and Mexico combined buy 31% of U.S. poultry exports, 45% of pork exports and 26% of beef exports. The Mexican President had promised a reciprocal action including tariffs, with U.S. meat products a likely target. Want to help the environment and try something new? Discover how eating invasive species can help the environment! Learn how proper prep avoids risky situations. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 228 Why Eat Invasive Species Like Swamp Rats? Invasive species such as swamp rats, green iguanas, and feral hogs are wreaking havoc on local ecosystems, consuming native vegetation, and threatening wildlife. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service encourages people to hunt and eat these species to reduce their population and mitigate their environmental impact. While it might sound odd to consider eating swamp rats, they are often described as having a mild, rabbit-like flavor. Swamp rats were introduced to the U.S. for the fur trade but have since spread uncontrollably. They are prolific breeders, causing damage to wetlands by eating plant roots and accelerating erosion. Should You Try Swamp Rat Meat? If you're up for a culinary adventure, swamp rat meat can be a sustainable choice. Experienced chefs in Louisiana turn these rodents into gourmet dishes like gumbo and Nutria à l'Orange. Some even say it pairs wonderfully with wine, such as a vibrant Zinfandel, or with a refreshing beer. Though the idea might be daunting for some, swamp rats are not only eco-friendly but also tasty. One commenter on the Fish and Wildlife Service post above mentioned they thought swamp rat tasted like pork loin and found it delicious. If you're curious, it could be worth trying—especially if you're looking to support local ecosystems. A Delicious Alternative: Irish Corned Venison Recipe While swamp rat meat may not be for everyone, wild game offers numerous other flavorful and ethical alternatives. One such dish is Irish Corned Venison, a great way to enjoy venison, a lean and nutritious meat. Corned venison is easy to prepare and perfect for a family dinner or holiday meal. Ingredients for Irish Corned Venison: 4 pounds venison roast (any cut, ideally from the shoulder or leg) 1/2 Gallon Water 1/2 cup Cure (Tender quick) 1/2 cup Kosher Salt 1/3 cup White Sugar 1 TBSP Whole Peppercorns 1 TBSP Mustard Seeds 1 TBSP Coriander Seeds 1 TBSP Dried Thyme 1 TBSP Caraway Seeds 6 Bay Leaves Instructions Prepare the Brine: In a large pot, combine the kosher salt, brown sugar, peppercorns, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, allspice, cinnamon, garlic, bay leaves, and pink curing salt. Add enough water to cover the venison and bring to a simmer. Stir until the salt and sugar dissolve completely. Cool the Brine: Once the brine is well-mixed and simmered, allow it to cool completely. This step is crucial for safety and flavor. Brine the Venison: Place the venison roast in a large non-reactive container (glass or food-safe plastic). Pour the cooled brine over the meat, ensuring it is fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for about 5 days. Turn the venison once a day for even curing. Cook the Corned Venison: After the meat has cured, rinse it thoroughly to remove excess salt. Place it in an Instant Pot or Slow Cooker with about an inch of water. Cook until tender. (Example: Instant Pot - 50 Minutes on Pressure Cook with natural release. Slow Cooker - on High for 3-4 hours.) For extra flavor, you can add vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and cabbage during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Serve and Enjoy: Slice the corned venison thinly and serve with the vegetables. The tender, flavorful meat pairs beautifully with a simple mustard sauce or alongside your favorite potatoes. Conclusion: Embrace Wild Game and Sustainable Eating Eating invasive species and wild game like venison can help protect our environment while providing you with a unique and flavorful meal. Whether you're adventurous enough to try swamp rat meat or you prefer the familiar taste of venison, these meats are a sustainable way to support wildlife conservation. Try the Irish Corned Venison recipe for your next dinner and join the movement of eco-conscious eating. EPISODE 72 DETAILS Latest Tariff Updates Tariff Updates: European Union The European Union announced plans for tariffs on $28.3 billion worth of U.S. goods in response to the 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports that the U.S. imposed on Wednesday. The counter-tariffs are seen as strategically calculated to deliver a blow to the economies of those U.S. states that have been most supportive of President Trump, and include tariffs on beef and poultry products. Other items on the list include bourbon, motorcycles, peanut butter and jeans. The EU tariffs would be expected to go into effect beginning mid-April, according to a report by Bloomberg. At the same time, EU leadership indicated that it is open to further negotiations. “The disruption caused by tariffs is avoidable if the US administration accepts our extended hand and works with us to strike a deal,” EU trade chief Maros Sefcovic was quoted by Bloomberg as saying. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the same press conference, “We firmly believe that in a world fraught with geo-economic and political uncertainties, it is not in our common interest to burden our economies with such tariffs.” Meanwhile, Canada is due to impose, on Thursday, 25% reciprocal tariffs on steel and aluminum products and other U.S. goods that the country imports from the United States. Join me Jeff Tigger Erhardt, Rebecca Wanner AKA BEC and my crew as we dive into Foot & Mouth Disease, Animal Health & Disease Management. A must hear for anyone in the cattle business. Plus news, sale recaps, cattle sale info and market commentary that you will only get on this all new episode of The Ranch It Up Radio Show. Be sure to subscribe on your favorite podcasting app or on the Ranch It Up Radio Show YouTube Channel. Season 5, EPISODE 227 Animal Health & Disease Management: Should We Be Concerned & Tariff Updates Improving Animal & Disease Management Practices: Foot & Mouth Disease, and Tariff News Foot & Mouth Disease: In Livestock Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a severe, fast-spreading viral disease that primarily affects cloven-hoofed animals, including cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and deer. FMD is one of the most challenging animal diseases to control. Although most infected animals survive, they're left weak and unable to produce the level of meat and milk prior to infection. FMD was first discovered in the United States in 1870 and eradicated in 1929. FMD is not a human health or food safety threat. The disease is not related to hand, foot, and mouth disease, a common childhood illness caused by a different virus. How To Identify Foot & Mouth Disease There are 7 known types and more than 60 subtypes of the FMD virus, meaning immunity to one type doesn't protect animals against other types or subtypes. The first signs of illness usually appear within 2 to 14 days after infection. Here's what to look for: Fever Great increase in temperature for 2 to 3 days Blisters/Vesicles Blisters can develop on the tongue and lips, in and around the mouth, on the mammary glands, and around the hooves. They rupture and discharge clear or cloudy fluid. Erosions When blisters pop, they leave raw, eroded areas surrounded by ragged fragments of loose tissue. Excess saliva Infected animals may have sticky, foamy, and stringy saliva. Loss of appetite Painful tongue and mouth blisters may lead animals to eat less. Lameness and a reluctance to move or stand Abortions Animals can experience spontaneous abortions and sterility. Milk Dairy cows may have low milk production. Heart disease and death These symptoms are especially prevalent in newborn animals. FMD Can Easily Be Confused With Other Diseases FMD may be confused with other diseases that produce blisters, including vesicular stomatitis, bluetongue, bovine viral diarrhea, foot rot in cattle, and swine vesicular disease. The only way to tell if the blisters are caused by the FMD virus is through laboratory testing. If you observe mouth or feet blisters in your animals, report them immediately so that they can be tested. How To Prevent Foot & Mouth Disease Report signs of disease. Livestock owners, livestock transport and slaughter personnel, and private veterinarians should watch for symptoms of FMD and immediately report sick animals to Federal, State, Tribal, or local animal health officials. This is especially important if the animals in question have had contact with other animals at locations like livestock markets, feedlots, or fairgrounds. Be careful what you pack. When traveling outside of the United States, don't bring back any prohibited items (including food) or dirty footwear or clothing that could potentially move the FMD virus or other disease agents. Declare to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Upon entering the United States, travelers should indicate to the U.S. Customs any visits to farms, ranches, or other areas where livestock are raised or kept. You should also declare any visits to zoos, circuses, fairs, and other facilities or events where animals were exhibited. Follow a “5-day” rule. If you visited a farm or had any contact with livestock on your trip, you should avoid all contact with livestock, zoo animals, or wildlife for 5 days after you return to the United States. If you're returning with pet dogs or cats that have had contact with livestock or been in areas frequented by livestock, make sure your pet's feet, fur, and bedding are free of any dirt or mud and that their bedding doesn't contain straw, hay, or other natural materials. Bathe your pet as soon as you reach your final destination and keep it from all livestock for at least 5 days after returning to the United States. Controlling By APHIS Foot & Mouth Disease Because FMD occurs in many parts of the world, there's always a chance it could be reintroduced into the United States. APHIS continuously monitors FMD worldwide. Our veterinarians stationed overseas help other countries control and eradicate the disease, which reduces the risk of it spreading to the United States. At ports of entry, we work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Border Protection to screen cargo and prevent travelers from bringing any products of concern into the United States. We restrict or prohibit imports of many animals and animal byproducts from areas known to be affected with FMD. We also work with the U.S. Armed Forces to make sure military vehicles and equipment are properly cleaned and disinfected before they return to the United States from international duty. Across the country, APHIS and other Federal, State, and Tribal animal health officials work with accredited veterinarians to monitor domestic livestock for FMD. We have response plans in place that we can quickly activate if the disease is found in the United States. Click HERE for additional details. Tariffs: China Targets U.S Agriculture For Retaliation of 20% The United States plans to impose a 20% tariff on Chinese goods, could result in a significant escalation in trade tensions between the two economic giants. In response, China is reportedly preparing countermeasures that could directly impact U.S. agriculture and food exports. According to The Global Times, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, Beijing "will definitely carry out strong, powerful countermeasures" if the U.S. increases the current 10% tariff. The report indicates that American agricultural products, including beef and pork, are "most likely" to be targeted with new tariffs. The trade uncertainty is already shaking U.S. agricultural markets. Hog futures have dropped 6% in recent trading sessions, according to the Daily Livestock Report (DLR). China and Hong Kong together account for 19% of U.S. beef exports and 6.5% of pork exports—significant figures that highlight the stakes of these trade tensions. As it stands, China has already imposed a 37% tariff on U.S. pork and a 12% tariff on U.S. beef, making American meat exports less competitive in the Chinese market. A further escalation could worsen the situation for U.S. farmers and ranchers. With agriculture facing potential economic strain, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Rollins has signaled readiness to implement relief measures. She indicated that a financial aid package similar to the $28 billion bailout deployed during the 2018 trade war under President Trump could be reintroduced. However, reports suggest that only $4 billion remains in the fund earmarked for agricultural assistance in 2025, raising concerns about the adequacy of available support. All eyes are on how China will respond and what further actions the U.S. might take. The agricultural sector, already facing global market challenges, is bracing for potential disruptions. For farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses, staying informed about trade policy developments is crucial. If China follows through with its threats, the impact could be widespread across U.S. agriculture, affecting prices, exports, and overall farm profitability. Canada and Mexico are also in the cross hairs of trade tariffs with both countries promising immediate retaliatory responses. Season 5, EPISODE 226 Data Decides The Bulls At Keller Broken Heart Ranch & Beef Checkoff Updates Using Technology At Keller Broken Heart Ranch For Bull Selection Genetics That Combine Data & Functionality At Keller Broken Heart Ranch, great cattle are more than just numbers—they must also look and function well. This philosophy has produced standout donor cows like WS Miss Sugar C4 and BarCK 106Z, whose offspring consistently lead the herd and excel in other breeding programs nationwide. These cows and their progeny have shaped the Keller herd's genetics, with their descendants now leading the charge in improving carcass traits and maintaining physical quality. Sons of these donors are used in AI programs, and daughters have become foundational to future breeding success. A Vision For Continuous Improvement The Kellers embrace the mindset of lifelong learners, always striving to improve their herd. By mating cattle on paper and analyzing performance data, leveraging RightMate by Allied Genetic Resources, the Keller Broken Heart Ranch achieves uniformity in their herd without sacrificing performance. Focus on data-driven decision-making has become the cornerstone of their success. This commitment to innovation and adaptability ensures that Keller Broken Heart Ranch remains a leader in the Simmental and SimAngus industries, producing cattle that excel in data, performance, and visual appeal. The Future Outlook The ranch remains steadfast in its mission: to improve the herd. By annually selling 120 bulls and 80 heifers, the Kellers stay dedicated to producing cattle with high marks on the ASA (American Simmental Association) All-Purpose Index (API) and Terminal Index (TI). Some Say The DOGE Should Look At The Beef Checkoff According to Meating Place, the Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund United Stockgrowers of America or R-CALF, CEO Bill Bullard encouraged ranchers and cattlemen to reach out to President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to request the agency audit the USDA's Beef Checkoff Program. Bullard said that we've long argued that the beef checkoff program, which is a USDA program that requires cattle producers to pay $1 for every head of cattle they sell; and it collects about $70 million each year, which he says, much of that comes from producers who do not support the mandatory government program. He went on to say that while the beef checkoff program is supposed to fund education, promotion and research for beef, and not fund lobbying, evidence of abuse has surfaced and an independent audit report found that $216,000 of mandatory producer contributions had been misspent. The Beef Checkoff has strong cattle producer support, according to The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA), and undergoes annual audits and posts that information on their website. NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Ethan Lane told Meating Place that the Beef Checkoff is an example of individual farmers and ranchers coming together to create a program that conducts research, educates consumers and builds demand for beef with a return on investment to producers of $13.41 for every $1 invested—all while operating with annual financial audits, strict oversight and at no cost to American taxpayers. R-CALF is a non-profit organization serving as a voice for independent cow-calf and sheep producers and feeders across America. NCBA is a non-profit trade association representing U.S. cattle producers. DOGE is a temporary contracted organization under the United States Digital Service, which has asked the public to contact the organization with ideas for “reducing waste, fraud and abuse.” Imports Of Mexican Cattle Are Expected To Resume A temporary suspension of imports of Mexican cattle into the United States is ending, according to several reports. The Mexican Agriculture Minister said that USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service or (APHIS) signed the first memorandums to allow the suspension to be lifted. The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) thanked the Trump administration and USDA for “working swiftly” to protect the U.S cattle supply from the threat of New World Screwworm, which sparked the import suspension late last year. APHIS has developed a comprehensive protocol that involves layers of veterinary inspections and treatment to prevent the spread of screwworm and other types of ticks and insects. The Value of Celebrating Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Milestones Have you ever felt like a special moment or occasion is "just another day"? We are here to tell you right now to STOP. It is not just another day to you and that is OKAY. Acknowledge, celebrate, take the time for those moments. Why To Celebrate Special Moments Think about what matters the most in life at the end of the day. High on that list are those moments when you took the time to make the memories. Keep it rolling. Too often we are losing people in our lives from accidents to cancer to moves. Cherish that anniversary or birthday instead, and know that it is GOOD for your mental health. Often I am called the "glue" inside my friend network. Why is that? Because even if it is my birthday, I will make a point of texting friends to go help me celebrate. Whether it be a last minute birthday lunch or a Girls Night, what happens is that often I am actually thanked for spurring the time together. Everyone is so busy, that no one means to forget a special occasion - it's just that Life Is Happening, however with one simple text or call... You might be surprised how quickly you just made someone else's day. Mastering the Art of Splitting the Bill After a beautiful meal with friends or on a double date, who pays or how to pay the bill is never a comfortable situation. Here we are to help with easy tips. How To Easily Split Bills Before entering the restaurant, think about who will be at the meal, their spending habits... This will set you up for success as soon as you walk in the door. When being walked to the table, attempt to be near your server or let whomever is sitting you... Whisper quietly, "Please plan to split the bill". After the server introduces, quickly interject and advise that the bill will be split and how. It is perfectly okay to do so as that way your last memory of the night will not be over "who pays what". Once having ordered your first drink, then advise the server what is on "Your Tab". Simple Comments go a long way, avoiding ending the night with uncomfortable moments. Top 3 Tips for an Unforgettable Spring Break Who is ready for Spring Break? EPISODE 70 DETAILS Brucellosis Found In Wyoming Cattle Cowherds Quarantined Because Of Wyoming Brucellosis Routine surveillance testing has identified brucellosis affected cattle herds in Wyoming. One herd is in Park County which borders Yellowstone National Park and Montana. The other is in Sublett County in west-central Wyoming. While the two counties are not contiguous, they are connected by forested areas and mountain ranges. Both herds are located within Wyoming's Brucellosis Designated Surveillance Area (DSA) and were quarantined following confirmation of the test results. No contact herd quarantines are anticipated. The Wyoming Livestock Board (WLSB) currently has three herds in Park County and another herd in Sublette County under brucellosis quarantine. Testing of affected herds is a cooperative effort between herd owners and private veterinary practitioners. USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and Veterinary Services (VS) personnel participate. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department cooperates with federal agencies in surveillance and diagnostics of brucellosis. In cattle and bison, the bacteria of concern is Brucella abortus. Brucellosis or “bangs disease” has been in the U.S. since the 1930s. All 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are today considered brucellosis-free—except in livestock near the Greater Yellowstone Area (GYA) where wild bison and elk often intermingle with cattle in the last remaining reservoir of this disease in the U.S. For the full article, click HERE. Retail Beef Demand Stays Strong in 2025 According to Oklahoma State University Extension Livestock Marketing Specialist Derrell Peel, The all-fresh retail beef price for January was $8.15/lb., up 4.3% year over year. All-fresh beef retail prices have averaged 5.2% higher month over month for the last year leading to retail all-fresh beef prices for the past twelve months at a record average level of $8.27/lb. Per capita beef consumption in 2024 was unexpectedly higher at 59.7 pounds as a result of constant domestic beef production and larger net imports of beef. The combination of increased beef consumption and higher prices he says indicates stronger beef demand. All-fresh retail beef prices continue to increase relative to pork and broiler prices. Wholesale Choice beef cutout prices have averaged 11.8% higher year over year for the first six weeks of 2025. Prices are higher for all primals with stronger prices for end meats relative to middle meats. Prices for rib primals are up 9.2% year over year with loins prices up 4.6% compared to the first six weeks a year ago. Chuck prices are 14.8% higher and round primal prices are up 22.3% year over year. Prices for most wholesale beef cuts are higher thus far in 2025 compared to one year ago Most steak prices are higher, including Strip Loins and Ribeye. The most notable exception is weaker prices for Tenderloin in recent weeks. Strong prices and numerous lean carcass cuts, primarily from the round, are supported by increased grinding demand for ground beef production. Struggling with flying anxiety? Discover how to calm your nerves and make air travel easier. Learn how to manage your fear of flying today. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 225 Overcoming Fear of Flying: Practical Strategies for Anxiety-Free Travel Has recent news stories regarding airplane crashes to employee lay-offs increased your flying anxiety? If so, you are not alone! Do not fret as we are here to help you handle the nerves and help in continuing to make your travel memories. Anxiety About Flying Is Common: What to Do If You're Anxious About Flying Right Now Flying anxiety is more common than you might think. In fact, Research shows up to 40% of people worldwide experience some level of fear or anxiety when it comes to air travel. Recent headlines of plane crashes and other frightening incidents can make it even harder to shake those nerves before your flight. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that approximately 45,000 commercial and private flights depart daily in the U.S., carrying 2.9 million passengers. The likelihood of dying in a plane crash is extremely rare, with odds of about 1 in 13.7 million—much smaller compared to the 1 in 95 chance of dying in a car accident. But how can you manage this fear and still get to your destination safely? Here are some helpful tips for navigating anxiety when flying. Accept Your Anxiety and Don't Fight It The first step in managing flying anxiety is to accept it. Trying to fight anxiety can make it worse. Instead, commit to your decision to fly and allow your nerves to pass naturally. Remind yourself that this is a normal response, and it doesn't mean something is wrong. Focus on the Positive Aspects of Flying While it's easy to get stuck in the fear of flying, it's helpful to remind yourself why you're taking the trip in the first place. Whether it's visiting family, exploring new places, or advancing your career, air travel is often the gateway to experiences that bring meaning to our lives. Spend time reflecting on the positive aspects of flying and how it helps you achieve your goals, even if it means overcoming some anxiety along the way. Cut Off Aviation-Related News One of the biggest stressors for anxious flyers can be the constant stream of news about aviation accidents. Try avoiding aviation-related news, especially in the weeks leading up to your flight. Too much information, especially negative headlines, can fuel your anxiety. If you can, gradually reduce your news consumption in the days leading up to your trip. Calm Yourself Before Your Flight The more relaxed you can be on the day of your flight, the better. Try to avoid leaving everything until the last minute. If possible, get organized ahead of time and reduce any additional stressors like rushing through errands. For long trips, consider staying at a hotel near the airport to eliminate the stress of a long commute. When you're at the airport, practice deep-breathing exercises or progressive muscle relaxation to keep your body and mind calm. Remember Your Past Flying Experiences If you're feeling anxious, reflect on your previous flights. Have you made it through safely every time? The more evidence you can gather about past positive experiences, the more you can challenge the negative thoughts that fuel your anxiety. Remind yourself that you've flown successfully before and that pilots and crew are highly trained professionals with extensive experience. Avoid Triggers on Flight Day There are certain things you should avoid on the day of your flight that could increase your anxiety. Consider staying away from caffeine, alcohol, and illicit drugs, as these can heighten feelings of anxiety. Opt for water, juice, or a calming beverage instead, and give your body the best chance to stay calm. Consider Medication If Necessary If your anxiety is severe, talking to your doctor about medication options may be helpful. Anti-anxiety medications can help reduce the intensity of your fears and allow for a smoother flight. Make sure to consult with a healthcare provider before using medication to ensure it's safe for you. Focus on the Present Moment Once you're airborne, it can be helpful to focus on the present rather than worrying about future events or dwelling on past experiences. One trick is counting people around you—such as the men and women on the plane—because it engages your mind in a neutral task that takes you away from anxious thoughts. It's a small shift, but it can make a big difference in how you feel. Lean on Your Travel Companions for Support If you're traveling with a loved one, lean on them for emotional support. Holding hands, talking through your worries, or simply sharing calming memories can help. If you're traveling with someone who experiences anxiety, make their journey as smooth as possible by offering reassurance, keeping them distracted, and helping them feel as comfortable as possible. Flying can be nerve-wracking for many people, but with the right strategies, you can manage your anxiety and arrive at your destination safely. From accepting your feelings to focusing on the positive, these tips can help you overcome the fear of flying and make the experience more manageable. Safe travels! EPISODE 69 DETAILS Line 1 Hereford Cattle & Nebraska Cultivated Meat Update Line 1 Hereford Cattle For Sale, Division about Nebraska Cultivated Meat Ban EF1 Cattle Company: Why Line 1 Hereford Cattle Welcome to EF1 Cattle Company where our Line 1 Herefords are meticulously linebred to ensure consistent, high-performing genetics, making them a top choice for commercial beef production. Their proven predictability enhances herd uniformity, fertility, and feed efficiency, adding long-term value for ranchers focused on genetic improvement. EF1 Cattle Company Line 1 Hereford Cattle: Built For Longevity, Soundness, & Exceptional Performance At EF1 Cattle Company, our Line 1 Hereford two-year-old bulls are carefully raised using a “low and slow” approach to ensure optimal longevity, soundness, and performance in real-world conditions. These bulls are raised entirely on their mothers' milk, with no creep feed, to develop naturally. We wean in early winter and transition to a developing ration, preparing bulls for spring turnout on lush grass where their superior genetics truly shine. During their second year, our Line 1 Hereford bulls spend summer and fall grazing native grass, with access to free-choice minerals and salt. As sale time nears, bulls are moved to a 40-acre paddock near headquarters, where they receive a precisely balanced, low mega-calorie ration. Unlike other bulls pushed too hard for fast growth, our bulls develop muscle shape and thickness gradually—just like an athlete training steadily for peak performance. This method ensures the bulls have the endurance to cover more cows while maintaining their condition, making them an ideal choice for ranchers seeking long-lasting, high-performance genetics. Nebraska Ag Interests Push Back On Proposed Cultivated Meat Ban At least two major ag groups are not supporting a proposal to ban cultivated proteins as proposed last month by Neb. Gov. Jim Pillen and State Sen. Barry DeKay. The Nebraska Farm Bureau and Nebraska Cattlemen separately announced support for specific provisions in the proposal that requires special labeling and standards for protein derived from the cells of food animals, but the entities do not support a total ban of the lab-produced products. The Farm Bureau supports the restriction of plant-based and cultivated proteins being labeled “meat” and favors establishment of state-level laws covering potential mislabeling of such proteins. Similarly, the Cattlemen support clear labeling requirements for alt-proteins but not a complete ban as product developers should be able to compete in the marketplace SPONSORS Trans Ova Genetics https://transova.com/ @TransOvaGenetics American Gelbvieh Association https://gelbvieh.org/ @AmericanGelbvieh Allied Genetic Resources https://alliedgeneticresources.com/ @AlliedGeneticResources Clear Springs Cattle Company https://www.bredforbalance.com/female-sale Axiota Animal Health https://axiota.com/ @MultiminUSA Jorgensen Land & Cattle https://jorgensenfarms.com/ @JorLandCat Ranch Channel https://ranchchannel.com/ @RanchChannel Questions & Concerns From The Field? American Beef Labeling Act Sparks Debate Over Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling (MCOOL) A new federal proposal to reinstate mandatory country-of-origin labeling (MCOOL) for beef has ignited debate among industry leaders, ranchers, and lawmakers. While some ranchers and advocacy groups support the American Beef Labeling Act, the Meat Institute has expressed concerns, citing past trade disputes and economic impacts. What Is the American Beef Labeling Act? The bipartisan bill, introduced in the U.S. Senate, seeks to require beef sold in the United States to display its country of origin. However, MCOOL was previously repealed in 2015 after the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that it violated trade agreements by unfairly discriminating against Canadian and Mexican livestock producers. The bill's lead sponsors, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), are joined by co-sponsors John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.). If passed, the legislation would direct the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and USDA to develop a WTO-compliant solution within 12 months. If no agreement is reached, the previous MCOOL rule would automatically be reinstated for beef. Industry Reactions: Meat Institute vs. Ranchers The Meat Institute, representing meat processors and packers, opposes the bill, favoring voluntary country-of-origin labeling (COOL) instead. Sarah Little, Vice President of Communications, stated that past MCOOL policies distorted trade, raised consumer beef prices, and provided no measurable benefits to U.S. cattle producers. On the other hand, rancher advocacy groups such as R-CALF USA, the South Dakota Farmers Union, and the United States Cattlemen's Association (USCA) support the legislation. USCA President Justin Tupper emphasized that truthful labeling is essential for consumer transparency and the future of American ranchers. What's Next for Mandatory Beef Labeling? Supporters argue that MCOOL would empower consumers by clearly identifying American beef, while opponents warn of potential trade retaliation and economic consequences. With bipartisan backing, the bill's progress will be closely watched by cattle producers, meatpackers, and industry stakeholders. Key Takeaways: -The American Beef Labeling Act proposes reinstating mandatory country-of-origin labeling (MCOOL) for beef. -The Meat Institute opposes the measure, citing trade concerns and consumer price impacts. -Rancher advocacy groups support MCOOL, calling for transparency in beef labeling. -If no WTO-compliant solution is reached in 12 months, the MCOOL rule would be reinstated. Cattle Industry News NCBA Calls Out Supreme Court Decision on Corporate Transparency Act: A Blow to Family Farms and Ranches The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) voiced strong disappointment following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to lift an injunction that had temporarily halted enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). The CTA introduces new reporting requirements that some say could impose significant burdens on small businesses, including family-owned farms and ranches. NCBA Executive Director of Government Affairs, Kent Bacus, expressed concern about the potential impact by saying the Corporate Transparency Act will blanket family-owned farms and ranches in excessive red tape, placing millions of small business owners at risk of legal trouble. He went on to say that he is urging President Trump and the Treasury Secretary to intervene and protect small businesses from these onerous requirements by delaying enforcement until a workable solution is found. While NCBA's advocacy primarily focuses on farmers and ranchers, the Act's implications extend beyond agriculture. NCBA's Director of Policy Communications highlighted how the law could also weigh heavily on small and family-owned meat processors, adding to their regulatory challenges. The U.S. Supreme Court's decision overturned a nationwide injunction, allowing the Department of Treasury to enforce the Act while ongoing federal court cases challenge its legality. What This Means for Small Businesses The CTA would require entities to disclose detailed ownership information to the federal government, which could pose administrative and financial challenges for smaller operations. Given the complexity of these new requirements, it is recommended that whether in agriculture, meat processing, or other industries—seek advice from legal or tax professionals to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Learn why to set up another for success by teaching the fundamentals first to guarantee a solid foundation to build upon. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Season 5, Episode 223 WHY LEARN FUNDAMENTALS FOR THE OUTDOORS, SPORTS & HOBBIES Often those of us that are skilled in hunting, skiing or many other hobbies become overzealous in wanting to share our knowledge with hopeful new individuals to the activities. This especially holds true if for example you are a father wanting to show your son for the first time how to use a bow. Another great example, assisting in teaching a spouse. Frustrations can come quickly as often expectations are that another will learn quickly your often decades learned skill in the sport. What also comes into play is the accidental missing of not teaching the safety of each skill or activity too. It is highly recommended that for the very first lesson, consider hiring an outside professional or other known individual to walk through the basic fundamentals. Key Reasons Why To Learn These Fundamentals Let that individual be set up for success where they can feel free to ask questions as basic as they might be and the intimidation will quickly ease. It's important to remember, your knowledge, though vast and experienced, did not happen overnight. It was acquired through years of practice, failure and learning what works for you… Which may not be what works for another. Fundamentals Are Key Strong Foundation Is A Must Safety First Make a GREAT first experience to guarantee a lifetime of enjoyment! EPISODE 67 DETAILS A New Packing Plant & Consumer Food Prices New Packing Plant In Missouri America's Heartland Packing is finishing construction of its new plant in Warren County, Mo., with processing operations now slated to begin in April, the company said Tuesday. A division of Wisconsin-based American Foods Group (AFG) LLC, the $800 million plant will have a daily capacity of eventually more than 2,400 head in a 775,000-square-foot, mixed cattle facility, including a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers and loading docks. President Trump Urged To Make Changes & Address Food Costs The Meat Institute urged President Donald Trump to reduce regulatory burdens that it says are driving up food costs for consumers. In a letter addressed to the president, Meat Institute President and CEO Julie Anna Potts highlighted the organization's concerns about several regulations finalized under the previous administration and proposed actions to alleviate their impact. The letter called on the administration to withdraw or revise rules, including USDA's Inclusive Competition and Market Integrity rule. Additionally, the group urged the EPA to withdraw its Clean Water Act Effluent Limitations proposal, which the Meat Institute claims underestimates compliance costs and could force facilities to close. The Meat Institute also expressed support for USDA's inspection modernization for pork and poultry processing, advocating for interim rules to allow modernized facilities to operate above traditional line speeds. The organization emphasized the importance of these changes in addressing inflation and reducing consumer costs. How do you ask about money without stepping on toes? Here's how to handle this sensitive topic with care and make your getaway a success. Start with an Anonymous Budget Survey Instead of asking everyone face-to-face, keep it discreet. Send a private message or use a Google survey. Example: "Hey everyone! I'm thrilled to plan our trip. Could you share a budget range privately so I can ensure the plans work for everyone?" Travel Hacks to Keep Costs Down Travel off-peak: Book trips in spring or fall for better deals. Flight alerts: Sign up for platforms like Hopper, Going, or Secret Flying. Group discounts: Look for free breakfasts, group hotel rates, or all-inclusive packages to simplify planning. Budget Breakdown Tips Allocate costs to key categories: 30-40%: Accommodation 20-25%: Transportation 15-20%: Food and drinks 10-15%: Activities Build Flexibility into the Travel Plan Incorporate “choose-your-own-adventure” slots for activities. For example: Some may enjoy a spa day while others prefer hiking. Plan compromises like street food nights to balance pricier meals. Set Payment Expectations Early Before the trip, decide: How to split costs: Equal split or pay-your-way? Use tools like Splitwise: This app simplifies tracking and settling expenses, keeping everyone stress-free. With a thoughtful approach, you'll create a trip that's enjoyable and budget-friendly for all. Cheers to memorable adventures!
