Damian Pardo talks with legendary Biochemist and Biohacker, Tony Bosch
All Billy Corben does is pump out quality documentaries and Screwball is just the latest in a long line of bangers. You have surely seen some of his work: Cocaine Cowboys, Broke 30 for 30, and THE U Part 1 & 2 '30 for 30' just to name a few. This is the first of many Corben docs we plan on discussing here on the podcast, and it's one you can find on Netflix. Screwball, which covers the Biogenesis MLB PED scandal and the cast of characters involved, might be one of his lesser known docs, but may be his best. The doc tells the story of Biogenesis founder and sort of doctor Tony Bosch and the scandal that busted him, his associates, and big time major league players like Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez at the center of the fraud. Think you know how the dominoes started to fall in the Biogenesis scandal? This documentary will shock you as to how it all went down. On this show, we discuss: - How Tony Bosch became PED dealer to the sports and entertainment world - His bizarre relationship with Manny Ramirez - How a $4,000 loan went bad led to everything coming crashing down, yes a $4,000 loan! - The Rob Manfred led investigation and the seedy people MLB sought help from - If you think Alex Rodriguez is a phony that only begins to peel back the layers on him - Is Porter Fischer someone you feel bad for or is he just a loser? - much much more... In this national segment we discuss Lance Armstrong, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Dr. Tony Bosch and Screwball. We discuss NBA Playoffs and the Julio Jones Trade and much more!

This episodes guest is the infamous Tony Bosch. Tony is one of the all-time "villain's" in Major League Baseball history. Tony was literally the man behind-the-needle of the largest steroid and PED scandal in MLB baseball history. I first learned about Tony a few weeks ago while watching a baseball documentary titled "Screwball" that is currently available on Netflix. Screwball is the story of how Tony was quite literally the man behind the needle of the largest steroid and PED scandal in MLB baseball history. This podcast episode is meant to be strictly informational, and in no way shape or form is Behind the Dish or John Buck supporting the use of performance enhancing drugs by anyone. Tony has a wild story, and we wanted to hear it from him. As always, you're support means the world to us, and we hope you enjoy episode 35 with Tony Bosch.
Brett Romberg & Andy Korge talk with Tony Bosch, former Biogenesis owner, and Luke Pettigout, ex-NFL player.
Mariana breaks down how a major player made it big—and lost it all—in the dangerously unregulated, billion-dollar black market of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Tony Bosch’s Biogenesis of America was behind the largest PED scandal in American sports history, leading to the suspension of 14 professional baseball players, including Yankees' superstar Alex Rodriguez. How did he go from self-proclaimed “biochemist” of an anti-aging clinic to pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute testosterone? The Trafficked TV series is available now on National Geographic, and new episodes air Wednesdays.

Paco talks with Bay Area comedian and baseball coach Ben Kolina about the 2018 Netflix documentary Screwball. Screwball Recounts the high-profile doping scandal that rocked Major League Baseball. This entertaining doc takes us into the surreal Miami underworld that provided performance-enhancing drugs to Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez and other star players. They say South Florida is a sunny place for shady people and this is certainly true of steroid peddler Anthony Bosch. While Bosch's medical credentials may be lacking, his storytelling skills are first rate. The documentary also raises serious questions about doping and ethics in sports. The incredible nuttiness of “Screwball” could someday be adapted into an award-winning feature film a la “I, Tonya.” It has that same kind of out-there, Coen-esque feel in which people’s greed and stupidity lead to national news. There are plenty of dumb people out there, but only a select few that end up playing on as big a scene as Tony Bosch and Porter Fischer, who arguably changed the trajectory of one of the most popular sports in the world.Ben had his first experience getting laughs at the expense of visiting outfielders in Bleacher seats of the Oakland Coliseum. Ben is co-producer of the popular weekly comedy showcase at the Night Light in Oakland and is a regular at the Punch Lines in San Francisco & Sacramento.Follow Ben on:Twitter: @BenKolinaInstagram: @BenKolinaFollow Sup Doc on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.

Inside this edition of 201CWithout a Curse,201D Alex discusses the latest flawed Hall of Fame vote and Alex Rodriguez2019 record-setting 162-game suspension. With Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas getting inducted into the Hall of Fame last week, Alex examines the top three Red Sox 2013 David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Jon Lester 2013 who project to have the best Hall of Fame candidacies. Though Ortiz2019 counting numbers would be Hall of Fame worthy if he were to stay healthy for three more seasons, it2019s unlikely he2019ll be inducted unless the voting bloc changes its mind on steroid users. Poorly founded heresy has been strong enough to keep surefire Hall of Famers like Jeff Bagwell and Mike Piazza out of the Hall. Thus, a positive drug test would probably be enough to keep a borderline candidate like Ortiz out of Cooperstown. In the 201CAround the League201D segment, Alex talks about the hypocrisy of the Hall of Fame election process. The best hitter and one of the best pitchers of all-time, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, didn2019t even garner 36 percent of the vote this year because of their ties to steroids. But yet, there are almost undoubtedly steroid users who are in the Hall of Fame. There are players who abused amphetamines in the Hall of Fame, and amphetamines are now banned substance. A player who tests positive for 201Cgreenies201D would receive the same suspension as a player who tests positive for human growth hormone. The problem with attempting to keep players who were active in the 201Csteroid era201D out of the Hall of Fame is the fact that there2019s no definitive beginning or end to it. The line between modern medicine and cheating has been blurred, and will never be clear again. Former Miami Herald sports columnist Dan Le Batard sold his Hall of Fame vote to Deadspin this year in an attempt to expose the flawed voting process. But Alex says Le Batard instead exposed the media. Everyone knows the Baseball Hall of Fame voting system is flawed. What Le Batard showed us is what the Hall of Fame vote has now become for writers: A way to generate content. Rodriguez2019 162-game suspension may be a 201Cwin201D for MLB, but nobody affiliated with the game should be celebrating anything. The 60 Minutes piece on Tony Bosch that aired on Sunday night shows that MLB has taken on an unwinnable battle against the underworld all for the sake of protecting the 201Csanctity of the game.201D What does that even mean, by the way? Alex begins this edition of "Without a Curse" by talking about the sagas involving Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez. Braun was suspended for 65 games after accepting a plea deal this week. Alex says Braun accepted the deal because it was the best scenario for him, even though he has now given legitimacy to Tony Bosch's testimony. MLB nailed Braun, and is now preparing to nail others tied to Biogenesis. There has been a lot of vitriol spewed at Braun from players across the league, and Alex says it shows that even though players will accept peers who aren't forthcoming about their steroid use, they won't accept outright liars. Braun is an outright liar, and tried to throw the sample collector, Dino Laurenzi Jr., under the bus in 2012 when he appealed his positive drug test. He's a snake. Speaking of snakes, A-Rod continues to engross himself in a PR battle with the Yankees and Brian Cashman. A-Rod sought an unsolicited 2nd opinion on his most recent quadricep strain from Dr. Michael Gross in New Jersey, and then courted Gross to appear on WFAN to dispute the Yankees' diagnosis. According to the CBA, a player can't seek a 2nd opinion without his team's consent. The Yankees may file a grievance against A-Rod in another attempt to void his contract. It was also reported this week that A-Rod is potentially facing a lifetime ban from baseball because of the litany of evidence they have against him in the Biogenesis case. If A-Rod is suspended for life, the Yankees don't have to pay the remainder of his albatross of a contract. Could the Yankees have been supplying MLB with medical information to help build its case against A-Rod? It's a conspiracy theory that isn't all that crazy. In terms of Red Sox news, Alex recaps the past three games against the Rays. Matt Moore and David Price have shut down the Red Sox, as the Rays seemed primed for a 2nd half run. Dustin Pedroia and the Red Sox finalized an eight year $110 million contract extension on Wednesday, a move which Alex is ecstatic bout. Long-term contracts are intrinsically risky, but Pedroia is worth taking the risk on. The prognosis is not good on Clay Buchholz, who will likely be out until September. Alex talks about how much criticism should be levied against Buchholz, and whether Red Sox fans should be disappointed at his lack of durability. With Buchholz out, the Red Sox have been rumored to be interested in White Sox starter Jake Peavy. If Will Middlebrooks is traded for Peavy, it says the Red Sox have big plans for top prospect Xander Bogaerts ... this season. In the "Around the League" segment, Alex analyzes the AL East standings, and the Orioles' acquisition of Francisco Rodriguez. The Rangers also made a big trade this week, acquiring Matt Garza from the Cub. Alex tells you which team won the deal, and if the Rangers are now suited to make a run at the A's in the AL West. Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1.
