Steve brought in Mike Piazza who had the biggest non-playoff home run in Mets history - until this year maybe? Today Steve hosts 'The Leadoff Spot' on Sirius/XM radio weekdays from 7-10AM. Steve also broadcasts some Toronto Blue Jays games and is a regular contributor the #mlbnetwork. Episode 262 features unique barbecue and baseball stories with the president of AmazingRibs.com, Clint Cantwell and co-host of the National League Town podcast, Jeff Hysen while Chef Ray Sheehan assumes guest co-hosting duties. Clint Cantwell is president of AmazingRibs.com which is a leading online resource for barbecue and grilling information. As president, Clint performs day-to-day operations, creates recipes, writes articles, shoots photos, and does whatever else is needed to help run the heavily heavily trafficked website. He is also a champion pitmaster and an outdoor cooking content creator. Clint was named one of the "10 Faces of Memphis Barbecue" by Memphis Magazine in May of 2015 and was the winner of the Travel Channel's “American Grilled” nationwide cooking competition series. Clint previously worked as a public relations professional in New York City and shares two incredible baseball stories. One involves the 2000 World Series, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, and a broken bat. The other involves Barry Bonds record breaking 756th home run baseball which is prominently displayed in the National Baseball Hall of fame in Cooperstown, New York. Jeff Hysen is a New York Mets fan. He channels his long-time love and vast knowledge of his favorite baseball team into the podcast, National League Town which he co-hosts with Greg Prince. There is a lot more than meets the eye with Jeff as he is a lawyer as well as a stand-up comedian. His ideas for improving the game of baseball are insightful and worth a listen by us as well as by those who are in charge of tinkering with the game's rules. This is a baseball discussion without arguments and with plenty of interesting information. We conclude the show with the song, Baseball Always Brings You Home from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. SERIES 3 EPISODE 49: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Oh my God is this perfect. Kamala Harris doing an interview on Fox with Bret Baier tomorrow night pushes ALL the fascist buttons, all at once, and she ESPECIALLY pushes the one button that proves, as Chrissy Teigen tweeted and Rep. Maxwell Frost got entered into a Congressional hearing, that Trump remains a "P.A.B." Can you IMAGINE Trump sitting down to be interviewed by Maddow, or for God's sakes even Andrea Mitchell. Or the Meidas Network guys. Or me? It is not only enraging Trump now, not just tomorrow, but for the rest of the campaign. Every moment. He cannot stop it. He cannot stop his own insanity, he cannot hope to contain it; there is an excellent chance it will literally push him fully over the edge and he will start dropping n-words. Trump only found out in late afternoon and promptly lost it. He attacked Fox as ‘weak and soft”, he called Baier “Fair and balanced” and meant it as an insult. On TOP of which, Trump had already been raging about Fox letting liberals on its network. Now there is a chance that even the Washington Post and New York Times political reporters will skip whatever D-C cocktail party they were going to go to Wednesday night in hopes of getting into Politico's “Spotted” column and start asking the Trump mouthpieces and the Republicans why if SHE can go on Fox, he can't go on MSNBC. Or Washington Post Live. Or a New York Times cocktail party. This also, I think, finally puts a stake through the she's-not-doing-interviews canard, and transforms that entire issue into a journalistic bidding war. If you're wondering if Baier might trip up Harris - worry more about Harris tripping up Baier. Madame Vice President? Ask HIM some questions. Ask HIM where Fox is, covering the guys who joined Lara Trump's boat parade while flying Trump Flags and Nazi Flags with swastikas on them. Ask HIM where Fox is covering Trump's obvious mental decline and whether he's had a stroke or a tumor. Ask HIM where Fox is about Trump saying the military should be deployed against his enemies, and at the election three weeks from now. Ask HIM where Fox is covering Trump's promise to invoke a law that lets him imprison or expel ALL Hispanics in this country based only on race. Or ALL African-Americans. Or ALL German-Irish-Americans named Baier. PLUS: Now we know why Trump has been forced to do the stupidest thing possible, eight days before the election: spend a vital campaign day in New York, a state he cannot win. He is hosting a high-end fundraiser. If you're trading campaign time for campaign funds this late - you're losing. B-Block (22:14) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A hospital in the UK's National Health Service is now renting out wheelchairs £2 an hour. Hockey's Ottawa Senators failed to give away the Zamboni-Shaped Gravy Boats they promised yesterday. How is Canada supposed to put gravy on the biscuit it just put in the basket? And hi I'm David McCormick I'm running for the Senate from Pennsylvania and I am NOT actually from Connecticut. See me rooting for the Philadelphia Steelers? C-Block (33:42) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: After the Mets tied up the National League Championship Series yesterday it means we still have the chance of another Mets-Yankees all-New York World Series. So while it's still a possibility, let me tell you how I wound up on the periphery of the biggest moment of the last one, in 2000, when Roger Clemens threw Mike Piazza's broken bat at him (if you're a Mets fan) or he didn't (if you're a Yankees fan) or how he actually threw it straight at me (if you were me, reporting for Fox from the camera well next to the dugout). Also why Mike Piazza threatened to sue me over it.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ponder, if you will, a creature of myth and Legend born from The Whispers of ancient winds. It is known as the Thunderbird, a colossal bird-like Phantom that soars high above the land, its wings stretching wide like the sky itself. In the realm of Native American folklore this creature is not just a bird, but a Harbinger of dark storms over time. Tales of this legendary beast have drifted into the modern world leaving behind a trail of curious sightings and strange encounters. Like Echoes In a Canyon these reports are often dismissed. Hoaxes, they say, or the tricks of nature, but in the shadows of our minds, in the places where reason gives way to wonder the legend of the Thunderbird endures. Mets radio announcer Howie Rose joins BT & Sal to talk Mets playoff push and remember Mike Piazza's home run after 9/11.
Mike Piazza's most memorable home run of his career.
Willie Colon is sitting in with Jerry today and Jerry keeps the positivity theme of the week going by talking about the Mets win to start the show. Pete Alonso got things going with a home run that tied him with Mike Piazza on the Mets career list. Sean Manaea was terrific again and Jerry says Manaea has been the stopper for a few weeks now. The Mets have an uphill climb to catch the Braves. The Yankees had a bad night in the field in D.C. Aaron Judge looked human. Willie says enjoy the show and worry about Juan Soto's free agency later. Willie thinks the Yankees are going all the way. Willie says there's no limit to what the Yankees should give Soto if he delivers a ring this season. CLo is in with his first update of the day and Willie does not remember him from when CLo covered the Jets. Willie had a great relationship with the media when he played. The Mets had a big night in the desert but didn't gain ground on the Braves. Jerry doesn't take the AL Central teams seriously. The Yankees struggled against Patrick Corbin. In the final segment of the hour, a caller suggests the Yankees can't pay Soto more than Judge but Jerry and Willie disagree. Then, Jerry has a bone to pick with some WFAN colleagues, including someone sitting in his chair today.
Hour 1 Willie Colon is sitting in with Jerry today and Jerry keeps the positivity theme of the week going by talking about the Mets win to start the show. Hour 2 With Haason Reddick still holding out, Jerry asks Willie for the player's perspective on holdouts and how quickly a player can be ready once he does report. Jerry plays a clip from CeeDee Lamb about his negotiations and wonders how much agents tell their clients when talking to teams about a deal. Willie says a player could definitely be in the dark because of what his agent decides to tell him. CLo returns for an update and begins with Pete Alonso's solo home run. Pete talked about how much he loves the Mets and his teammates. Is he goofy, is he desperate to stay or is he just saying the right things as coached by Scott Boras? It was a rough night in the field for the Yankees. Willie doesn't think the videos of Haason Reddick working out will help him at all. Jerry thinks if players who missed time in camp perform early then others could question the importance of camp. Willie says it's more about lasting through the season than being ready for week 1. Wille doesn't think Jerry Jones is afraid to start over. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry plays “What Would Willie Do?” Willie teaches us that many big men don't know how to fight because if they were big growing up nobody challenged them and they never had to learn. Hour 3 Willie, like Jerry, has high expectations for the Jets but wants to see them start hot. Willie has a few questions he still wants to see Aaron Rodgers and company answer. CLo returns for an update but first we talk about golf plans and how quickly Jerry can get through 18. Brandon Nimmo had high praise for Sean Manaea. Willie says winning is the best deodorant which is similar to a line we mocked Boomer for saying recently. The line between pro athlete and NARP just got sharper. Willie Colon saw a completely different version of Todd Bowles behind closed doors and Jerry wonders if Bowles wouldn't have been fired by the Jets if he showed a little more of that publicly. Evan and Morash had Scott Hanson on yesterday. He delivered big news that RedZone viewers won't have to suffer through another late window with only two games on a Sunday afternoon. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry learns that McDonald's is about to release a McChicken Big Mac. Jerry and Willie discuss favorite burger and chicken fast food chains. Hour 4 We finish up the fast food and White Castle talk then get back to the Mets, who need to keep winning to make the postseason in an NL Wild Card race that's been tougher than expected. Steve Beuerlein calls into the show. The former QB is now the lead analyst for the Cowboys on Compass Media Networks. He talks to us about the Cowboys and the NFC East. CLo returns for an update but first tries to give kudos to Pat Boy ...

Welcome to episode 2 of The Terry Collins Show. The weekly podcast covering all things NEW YORK METS. On this 2nd show, Terry and co-host John Arezzi start it all off by discussing the Mets disappointing start to the 2024 Season. On Talkin with TC - Terry brings on the former MLB Umpire Tom Hallion and for the first time EVER they discuss the May, 2016 ejection that made the terms "ASS IN THE JACKPOT" and "YOU GOTTA GIVE US A SHOT" part of baseball lore. They watch the incident together and give their take on that heated argument that was captured live on a hot mic. The inside story fans will never forget. Hallion gives us the answer on the origins of that now famous phrase! Then we bring on 10 year old Mets superfan "The Amazin Cam" on the "Ask The Skipper Segment". Cam talks about his appearance on The Kelly Clarkson show, when he got to interview Mike Piazza. Then we watch Cam's Opening Day VIP Experience as the special guest of Mets Owners Steve and Alex Cohen. An incredible episode! Looking ahead to Sunday, the Giants get Daniel Jones back and play the Raiders who just fired their Head Coach. The Jets take on the Chargers and right now Gio likes their chances as the Jets defense has done well against great QBs. Gio thinks the Dolphins/Chiefs game being in Germany takes some juice out of it. The Bills return to Cincinnati where Damar Hamlin's injury occurred. Gio says that's definitely an ‘x-factor' for the game. Jerry returns for an update but first there's controversy over breakfast and Anthony Gallo. The Raiders fired Josh McDaniels. Aaron Rodgers talked about his rehab while on the Pat McAfee Show. Daniel Jones was on with Kay Adams talking about coming back to play this week. Mike McDaniel met the media in Germany to talk about playing the Chiefs. The Texas Rangers have a stranglehold on the World Series, leading 3-1 and could win it all tonight. The Moment of The Day involves the time Mike Piazza had a press conference to deny he was gay. In the final segment of the show, Matt Eberflus is likely to be the next coach to go after Josh McDaniels. Boomer said when a coach gets fired it's usually because of the quarterback position.
Gio thinks the Giants are in the middle of a quarterback mistake right now. Daniel Jones coming back from a neck injury and Tommy DeVito as the backup doesn't seem like a great plan. Gio doesn't like the idea of the Giants playing the Raiders this week as teams seem to rally around the interim coach when the Head Coach is fired. We also talked about Zach Wilson as Boomer still doesn't see the awareness he should have at this point. Boomer is interested to see how the Jets handle Justin Herbert. They have done a great job against great QBs this season. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the Raiders firing Josh McDaniels ahead of their game against the Giants. Aaron Rodgers talked about the Jets comeback win over the Giants. Jerry Jones talked about dressing as a blind ref for Halloween one year. Jerry said there doesn't seem to be a lot of buzz around the Knicks this year, and that's because they brought the same team back. The Texas Rangers are one win away from the World Series after beating the Diamondbacks again last night. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the ‘NY sports moments' rejoins that we play coming out of commercials. We also talked about that time Mike Piazza had to hold a press conference to say he wasn't gay.
Hour 1 Mark Davis fired Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler. Former Giant Antonio Pierce will take over as Head Coach in the interim. They play the Giants this Sunday and the Jets next Sunday. Will McDaniels wind up back with the Patriots? Gio is worried for the Giants because when a Head Coach is fired, there's an immediate lift for the team and they usually win the next week. This is the worst week to be facing the Raiders. The Giants did not trade Saquon Barkley as we expected they wouldn't. Chase Young was traded to the Niners. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but first we talked about the NFL flexing games. Joe Douglas talked about making a lot of calls but no deals were done at the trade deadline. The Jets signed a 35 year old offensive lineman. Daniel Jones was on with Kay Adams and talked about playing this week. Jerry Jones uses the ‘erotic' incorrectly. Sean Casey said the Yankees need to go get Juan Soto. The Texas Rangers had no problem with the Diamondbacks and took a commanding 3-1 series lead. The NBA in-season tournament will pay players even more to ‘motivate' them to play. In the final segment of the hour, Gio has had it with teenagers still trick or treating. Someone stole all of Gio's full-size candy that he left out. Hour 2 A story that could be fake, said Josh McDaniels dressed as Mark Davis for Halloween on the day he was fired. We took calls from people who were victims of candy theft on Halloween. A caller wants to know if we will be serving DiGiorno's Thanksgiving pizza. Gio is thinking of hiring a bouncer next year so only kids are allowed to get candy, not teenagers and adults. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Josh McDaniels getting fired last night. Joe Douglas is not going to put a timeline on Aaron Rodgers return. Daniel Jones was boring again with Kay Adams. Jerry Jones talked about ‘measuring stick' games. The Knicks beat the Cavs. The Texas Rangers beat the Diamondbacks to go up 3-1 in the World Series. Sean Casey wants the Yankees to get Juan Soto. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about college athletes getting rich from the Name, Image and Likeness deals. It provides an unfair advantage to the big schools. Hour 3 Gio thinks the Giants are in the middle of a quarterback mistake right now. Daniel Jones coming back from a neck injury and Tommy DeVito as the backup doesn't seem like a great plan.
