Evan opens the segment in full vacation mode, laid out in 85-degree weather doomscrolling… and stumbles onto an absolutely wild story: Shia LaBeouf claiming Mike Piazza rejected him for an autograph around 90 times as a kid. The guys react to Piazza's “tough sign” reputation, debate athlete obligations to fans, and Tiki basically turns it into a master class on why he always signed for kids and almost never said no. Then Evan dares the audience to call in with a story of Tiki turning someone down, and of course it backfires immediately. Callers flood in with the opposite: Tiki waiting around to sign a jersey, taking photos, being gracious, and generally proving he's the anti-Piazza. And because it's Evan & Tiki, the segment goes completely off the rails when Evan's back pain becomes on-air content. In a moment that has to be seen on YouTube to believe, Tiki agrees to help Evan put on a giant BioFreeze patch… and Evan directs him to place it basically on his ass. It's uncomfortable, hilarious, very WFAN, and it ends with Tiki warning him not to touch his eyes or anything else afterward because of the menthol. The segment then pivots back toward football as a caller tries to talk Giants and problem-solve the Jets by comparing injury history and coaching, but the real headline is simple: Piazza gets roasted, Tiki gets praised, and Evan turns pain management into performance art.

The crew opens with a big-picture baseball thought experiment: MLB should invent “Fugazi deadlines” to turn the offseason into a fast, chaotic sprint, because the last week has felt like an NFL-style frenzy. The Mets' entire winter gets compressed into a handful of headlines, from missing on Kyle Tucker to landing Luis Robert Jr. and adding Freddy Peralta, plus the value of getting a controllable arm like Tobias Myers as part of the bigger move. Then the conversation shifts into the real Mets fan experience right now: confusion, nerves, and a growing divide. One side sees the Peralta trade as an obvious upgrade. The other sees a potential rental that cost two top prospects, and says if you do that, you better be serious about keeping him. From there, it becomes a full debate about how “rentals” actually work, with a Mike Piazza comparison, plus the bigger question hanging over everything: can anyone realistically beat the Dodgers. The answer is complicated. The Dodgers might be the best team, but baseball still gives you a shot if you catch the right breaks and play clean, because you cannot afford a single slip against a team that deep.

Send us a textWe began by talking about the best HOFers that did not make the HOF. Not hitting as many home runs hurt the chances of Derek Jeter, Wade Boggs, and Tony Gwynn all of whom did not win an MVP. Manny Ramirez did hit a lot of HRs never won an MVP, but he's also not a HOFer. Mike Piazza never won an MVP finishing second twice. Dylan Cease got the big bucks for seven years while Sonny Gray got $41M for one year. Pitchers get paid in different ways but long term deals have been  harder to get for pitchers.  Now Framber Valdez is smiling. Nine managers were selected to replace ones not coming back. Warren Schaeffer the latest as he signed on with the #Rockies. Good luck.  We talked about the others who'd already taken the job. And then there's the #Mets. We go unit by unit although we did not talk about catcher Francisco Alvarez.  Is there a way for the team to compete for a pennant in 2026?  They have work to do. Will Francisco Lindor be named team captain? Juan Soto does not seem to want the job. Fortunately there is still time pre-season to continue to change the team after trading Brandon Nimmo for Gold Glove 2B Marcus Semien.  Then there's time until the trading deadline too!Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! SEASON 4 EPISODE 28: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: Donald Trump does not own the White House. Donald Trump does not own the United States of America. Donald Trump does not own the world. NOTHING Trump has done, in sending in thugs and military to attack people that did not vote for him in cities and states that do not support him, is LEGAL. NOTHING Trump has done in having his Nosferatu Stephen Miller threaten Governor Pritzker with “seditious conspiracy," is LEGAL. NOTHING Trump has done in sending so-called “election monitors” to interfere in the voting in California and Jersey on BEHALF of Republican Thugs, is LEGAL. NOTHING Trump has done to let himself say – supposedly jokingly, per the New York Times – “I’m the speaker AND the president," is LEGAL. NOTHING Trump has done in his demolition against, destruction of, attack ON the East Wing of the White House, is LEGAL. Almost NOTHING about Trump administration - his presidency - his forming unilateral DICTATORSHIP, is LEGAL. And it is TIME to CUT HIM OFF FINANCIALLY by taking the one measure that will force an end to this Trumpian madness: for the blue states to follow up on Gavin Newsom’s suggestion, on the suggestion of others including me in this forum, and stop transmitting federal taxes to the national treasury until Trump resigns. We must have a tax payment boycott and it must be led by Governors and other STATE OFFICIALS so that there can be no attempt by Trump or his enablers and flunkies to prosecute or further threaten democracy-loving civilians. De-fund Donald Trump. Now. ALSO: More on these "election observers." Also the targeting of Mike Johnson as the fall-guy. And a media update on Bret Baier, CBS, NBC and the Ballroom, Cheryl Hines and Olivia Nuzzi, and Bill Maher making a jackass of himself. AGAIN. B-Block (36:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Kayleigh McEnany trying to sell her audience Hamburger Helper and convince them it's steak. ICE arrests a guy for playing the Star Wars imperial march. Anna Paulina Luna has a debate with a California congressman who doesn't exist. And Andrew Cuomo achieves a new high in low: laughing at a 9/11 racial slur about the man who beat him in the primary. B-Block (48:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Before the World Series ends (and I still think that's in five games) it's time to tell the 25th Anniversary edition of Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, the bat, and how Clemens was actually throwing it at me. C-Block (1:06:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL, CONCLUDED: There are so many ripples in the pond on this Clemens saga - they're still rippling!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
