The highly anticipated Week one of the NFL season is finally here! The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 10th at U.S. Bank Stadium. Fans are eager to see how the Vikings will perform in their first game of the season, and there is a lot to talk about. To delve into the first week of the season, The Real Forno Show has invited Vikings Wire columnist and Minnesota's Sports Dad, Judd Zulgad to discuss the Vikings' first game. This is an exciting opportunity to hear from a knowledgeable expert about what we can expect from the Vikings on Sunday. Interestingly, the Vikings currently have a win total of 8.5 wins via Draft Kings Sportsbook, which is a positive sign for the team. Many believe the Vikings should win on Sunday as the Buccaneers are a team in transition, moving forward without Baker Mayfield. However, this means that the Vikings should not underestimate the Buccaneers and their new-look offense. How will the Vikings attack their new-look defense run by Brian Flores? In addition to discussing the Vikings' first game, we will also talk about Justin Jefferson's contract extension, offensive line continuity, and the state of the cornerback room. These are all important factors that will impact the Vikings' success this season. The latest episode of The Real Forno Show will air Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel. Welcome to today's edition of the Vikings Daily Opener. We are now 73 days away from the Vikings' week 1 season opener. In this episode, we discuss a variety of topics, including the disrespect towards Justin Jefferson, the Curse of 1998, the Vikings' training camp, the new NFLPA executive director, and the state of the Vikings' wide receiver position. Pat McAfee made an unsupportable comment about Justin Jefferson on his show, claiming that Dalvin Cook's presence on the field was the reason behind Jefferson's high level of production. However, this argument ignores the reality of the Vikings' offensive strategy, which ran through Jefferson. The Vikings were also top 3 in passing attempts per game last season, further supporting the argument that Jefferson's success was not due to Cook's presence. We also discussed the Curse of 1998 in an article that explores the Vikings' struggles after the tragic 1998 season. The team entered purgatory, missing the playoffs for six out of the next seven years, and never finishing better than 8-8. The article highlights the Vikings' draft incompetence and missed opportunities, leading to their struggles. The Vikings will start their training camp for the upcoming NFL season on July 23rd, with rookies reporting first. Veterans are scheduled to report on July 25th. The team's headquarters, TCO Performance Center, will host the training camp, which is open to the public for 14 practices. The NFL Players Association has announced that Lloyd Howell will be the new executive director, taking over from DeMaurice Smith by the end of 2024. Howell, who was the treasurer and chief financial officer of Booz Allen, will be the fourth executive director in the NFLPA's history, following in the footsteps of Smith, Gene Upshaw, and Ed Garvey. We also discussed the current state of the Vikings' wide receiver position heading into the 2023 season. The article from Vikings Wire provides a comprehensive analysis of the position, highlighting Justin Jefferson's historic 2022 season and K.J. Osborn's development, but also acknowledging Adam Thielen's regression during the past season. Lastly, we took a trip down memory lane and discussed the number 73 and its impact on the history of the Minnesota Vikings. From Ron Yary to Junior Aho, the impact of the number 73 on the team's history cannot be overstated. Thank you for tuning in to today's episode of the Vikings Daily Opener. Welcome to today's Vikings Daily Opener! We are now just 75 days away from the Vikings week 1 season opener. Alexander Mattison wins celebrity pro-am cornhole tournament In an unexpected turn of events, Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison recently won the Johnsonville SuperHole IV preliminary, a celebrity pro-am cornhole tournament held at the Adrenaline Sports Center in Ramsey, Minnesota. Despite having never played cornhole before, Mattison's enthusiasm and willingness to learn impressed everyone in attendance. He was paired with professional cornhole player Noah Almanza and the two went on to win the event, advancing to the finals in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and earning $100,000 for their charity. The American Cornhole League, which is the sanctioning body of cornhole in the United States, made one of its many tour stops at this pro tour event. The event featured four celebrities competing against each other in a pro-am style tournament. Vikings running back room preview As the 2023 season approaches, Vikings fans eagerly anticipate seeing how the running back room will perform. With the departure of Dalvin Cook, there are many questions about who will step up and become the top back in the Vikings' offense. Alexander Mattison is expected to fill the void and become the top back, but the Vikings are likely taking a true committee approach to the position. The article published on Vikings Wire provides a comprehensive analysis of each player in the running back room and their performance in the 2022 season. The article delves into the performance of each player in the 2022 season, with the majority of the performance coming from now-departed running back Dalvin Cook. However, with Cook's departure, players like Mattison and Nwangwu are expected to receive more opportunities this year. Vikings playmakers remain talented According to Bill Barnwell's rankings, the Minnesota Vikings have one of the most talented playmaking corps in the league, even without two of their top players from previous years - Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook. In recent seasons, the Vikings have had no shortage of talent at the skill positions with players like Stefon Diggs, Justin Jefferson, and T.J. Hockenson putting up impressive numbers for the team. Rookie Jordan Addison is expected to make an immediate impact across from Jefferson in the passing game, which should add to the team's already impressive list of "playmakers." Despite the uncertainty at the running back position, the Vikings remain a team with impressive talent at the skill positions. With the addition of rookie Jordan Addison and the existing weapons on the team, the Vikings remain one of the most talented teams in the league at the skill positions. Kirk Cousins speculation for 2024 starts Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, both the 49ers and Rams may be interested in pursuing Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins in March 2024 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Cousins' health and the performance of other quarterbacks on the 49ers and Rams will determine their interest in him. If Cousins remains healthy and performs well, both teams could compete for his services in 2024. The segment highlights the potential tug of war that could occur between two NFC West rivals, both of whom have a history with the talented quarterback. That's all for today's Vikings Daily Opener. The Minnesota Vikings have been in the headlines lately due to some updates and controversies. Justin Jefferson, the team's wide receiver, has been nominated for Best NFL Player at this year's ESPY Awards and fans can vote for him on ESPN's website. Meanwhile, the Two Old Bloggers podcast talked about the delay in extending Jefferson's contract, Dalvin Cook's frustration with the new offensive scheme, and the controversy surrounding Danielle Hunter's potential release. The Vikings Wire provides player profiles on various members of the Minnesota Vikings' 90-man roster, and Insider Matthew Coller doubts whether the Vikings will make K.J. Osborn a competitive offer. Finally, the Vikings face a significant challenge this season as they attempt to replace former Pro Bowl wide receiver Adam Thielen, who left the franchise due to declining production, with Jordan Addison, the team's 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Welcome to the Vikings Daily Opener, your daily source for all things Minnesota Vikings. In today's edition, we'll take a look at the state of the Vikings' quarterback room and share some interesting statistics and articles from around the league. Vikings State of the Roster: Quarterback Yesterday, Tyler Forness of Vikings Wire provided a detailed analysis of the Vikings' quarterback position. Led by veteran Kirk Cousins, the quarterback room also includes Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall. While Cousins' statistical performance in 2022 wasn't his best, he still played well and made plays that he hadn't made in prior seasons. The article also discusses the rest of the quarterback room, including Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall, and their potential contributions to the team. Finally, Tyler examines the future of the quarterback room, which is uncertain beyond 2023. Insane Justin Jefferson Stat In other news, Justin Jefferson continues to break records and amass impressive statistics. The Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver has already racked up an impressive 4,825 receiving yards in just three seasons with the team. What's more impressive is that he is on track to surpass the Chicago Bears' all-time receiving yards record with just 235 more yards. Johnny Morris, who played in 121 games for the Bears from 1958 to 1967, holds the record for the Bears' all-time leading receiver with 5,059 receiving yards. With only 234 more receiving yards, Justin Jefferson will surpass Morris and become the all-time leading receiver for one of the Vikings' divisional rivals. The Curse of 1998 4thquarterhero delves into the history of the Minnesota Vikings' 1998 NFL season, which was marked by an impressive performance that ultimately ended in a heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship game. He reflects on the impact of this loss on the team and its fans, who were left reeling from the disappointment of missing out on a Super Bowl appearance. The article highlights the remarkable statistics that the team achieved during the 1998 season, such as becoming the first team in NFL history to score at least 24 points in every game of the season and the first team to score more than 550 points in a season. However, despite these impressive feats, the Vikings were unable to secure a Super Bowl victory, and the loss in the NFC Championship game marked the beginning of a decline for the team and its key players. Analyzing the Vikings Offense Finally, ATwice examines the offensive production of the Minnesota Vikings under head coach Kevin O'Connell and what fans can expect in the future. The Vikings have had some record-breaking offenses over the years, and with O'Connell leading the team, they look to continue trending upward. O'Connell has an impressive coaching background, having worked with great offensive-minded head coaches such as Jay Gruden, Chip Kelly, and Sean McVay, and has already led the team to a 13-4 record and a division title in his first year. It's 80 days until the Minnesota Vikings season opener Tripping down memory lane, Dave looks at who has worn #80 for your Minnesota Vikings, and one player is a true legend. Cris Carter. Judd Zulgad reported on recent happenings at the Vikings' TCO Performance Center, including an overview of recent interviews and discussions with team coaches and executives. One article provides an in-depth analysis of Coach Kevin O'Connell's approach to coaching rookie quarterback Jaren Hall, while another article discusses the NFL's Coach Accelerator Program, which seeks to improve diversity in hiring practices throughout the league. In addition to covering recent news and updates, the show also includes rankings of the Vikings' best prime-time games in 2023, as well as updates on player signings and contract negotiations. For example, the Vikings have signed first-round pick Jordan Addison to a four-year rookie contract, and the team could soon have over $20 million in cap space. Finally, the Daily Norseman reported that two Vikings players, Justin Jefferson and Christian Darrisaw, have been named to Pro Football Focus' top 25 NFL players under the age of 25. Jefferson is praised for his elite receiving grades and consistency, while Darrisaw's impressive improvement from his rookie season to his second year has made him one of the top young offensive linemen in the game. Overall, this Vikings Daily Opener provides a wealth of information and analysis for Vikings fans and NFL enthusiasts alike. Whether you are interested in player prospects, team news, or contract negotiations, this episode offers a comprehensive overview of recent happenings at the Minnesota Vikings.
