POPULARITY
Rise and Fall From firm favourites for the drop and pundit premonitions of getting ‘annihilated', to ninth in the top flight and discussions on whether the Blades could even make the Champions League, and finally to a post-lockdown descent into disappointment, departures and a merciful return to the Championship, our previous short stint in the Premier League was a hell of a ride.In the third and final part of this series, we look at our two seasons back in the big time – from dreamland to nightmare. Joining us is senior BBC journalist and former Sheffield United correspondent for Yorkshire Live, Nathan Hemmingham, who lifts the lid on Wilder's unique warmth, why our second season in the Premier League went wrong, and what it was like to cover football during COVID restrictions. Leaders across the North of England have issued the united message of support for Ukraine, and offered a welcoming hand to those displaced by the invasion from Russian forces. In Rochdale, the Greater Manchester town twinned with Lviv, members of the Ukrainian community joined councillors in the town centre for a show of solidarity. One of those people who attended the vigil was Neil Emmott, the Rochdale council leader. He tells the Northern Agenda's Westminster editor Dan O'Donohue why the town is "standing shoulder to shoulder" with Ukraine, and whether Rochdale would welcome those who have escaped from the war.And Kristian Johnson, investigative reporter at Yorkshire Live, speaks to York Central MP Rachael Maskell about the dentistry crisis hitting the North. The Labour politician explains how some of her constituents are using their life savings, travelling abroad, or even pulling out their own teeth, because it is "virtually impossible" to see an NHS dentist, due to years-long waiting lists and medical professionals leaving the health service. The Northern Agenda is a Laudable production for Reach. Yorkshire Live writers Steven Chicken and David Hartrick discuss the 1-1 draw with Barnsley. What can we read into Carlos Corberan's selection decisions? Was this a step forward or a continuation of a poor run? And when can we say a poor run has become a slide? We also talk about the boos that broke out on the final whistle and whether that was fair; why things seem to be a lacking a bit of oomph; and the question of whether or not this season so far has been an over-performance, an under-performance, or just the right level of performance.
The Northern Agenda - the political podcast that offers a perspective outside the Westminster bubble - asks why there is a North-South divide when it comes to life expectancy.Host Rob Parsons speaks to Dr Jonathan Pearson-Stuttard about a new report from Imperial College London on life expectancy inequalities in England. For our latest podcast Paul Wheelock picks up the phone to Nathan Hemmingham, who is the Sheffield United reporter for the Liverpool ECHO's sister website, Yorkshire Live. They talk about how Ben Davies is getting on, after he joined the Blades in the summer on loan from Liverpool, and discuss what the defender's plans are for the future. And also about Rhian Brewster, who made the permanent move from Anfield to Bramall Lane the summer before last, but whose time at Sheffield United has not worked yet. But a lot of the podcast is about how the Blades, who had some good battles with Liverpool when they were in the Premier League, are now recovering and rebuilding after the depature of their beloved manager Chris Wilder, and their relegation back to the Championship… and that includes ta story about the time Wilder and Jurgen Klopp, it sounds, got a bit tipsy together on champagne after a match.Get exclusive podcasts direct to your inbox every week for FREE by joining the Blood Red Club. Yorkshire Live duo Steven Chicken and David Hartrick look back on a disappointing 0-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest and try to unpick what it tells us about Huddersfield Town's prospects this season. What went wrong in the game and how do they fix it? Are the players taking enough responsibility for changing things up mid-match? And does that performance give opposition analysts an obvious approach to take against the Terriers? We also talk about why Town aren't getting goals out of their strikers and how much that rests on the forward's shoulders and look ahead to how Corberan might approach the upcoming trip to Swansea.
Paul Wheelock speaks to Conor McGilligan, who works for Leeds Live and Yorkshire Live, to get the lowdown on Liverpool's opponents this weekend, Leeds United. They talk the atmosphere Jurgen Klopp's team are going to encounter on Sunday, new England international Patrick Bamford, and just how good the Liverpool-linked Raphinha really is. A mother of two is found bludgeoned to death in a suspected burglary gone wrong. The attack is barbaric. Blood spatter covers the ceiling. But in spite of the carnage, only a small sum of money has been stolen. Is a woman's life really worth the £100 that was reported missing? The attack shocks the quiet suburban neighbourhood as police struggle to find a suspect. Is this really a random attack, or is someone closer to home responsible?...
