A perfectly imperfect career.Jamie Ness was a big deal in the youth ranks at Rangers. He was one of a crop of youngsters, alongside future Pilgrim Gregg Wylde, who were highly thought of and tipped to go to the top. And while it didn't go totally to plan, Jamie made himself a bit of a cult hero.Injuries blighted him throughout his career. After a stunning introduction to the Ibrox fans, with a 40-yard piledriver against bitter rivals Celtic, injuries and the club going bust meant he had to move on.A trip to Stoke and a pre-season with Tony Pulis halted his career once more, as on day two he picked up a nasty injury. After a few further moves, he perhaps played his best football in Devon, arriving at Home Park in the summer of 2017. Without being the standout, his partnership in midfield with David Fox and Antoni Sarcevic almost saw Argyle claim an unlikely play-off place in his first season. He's since moved back up north, to Scotland, where he has set up an Academy training young Jamie Ness' of the future. This is the story of Jamie Ness.

Gav and Chris return to action and find themselves reacting to a loss against Stoke City in a pretty shit and extremely Stoke-esque game marred by a mixture of tactical mistakes, Stoke themselves and PGMOL apology worthy errors from more useless officials. What's the Crack? Two weeks of waiting for 90+ minutes of frustration; how do the lads feel about it all? Mowbray made some changes to the line-up and opted to keep all our strikers on the bench before later throwing all our strikers on the pitch; would he have been wise to maybe use one or two from the beginning? Though everyone was delighted to see Pierre Ekwah back on the pitch and Jobe did his best with the role he was forced to play, how much did we miss the presence of Dan Neil in the middle of the park? Another match, another terrible example of modern officiating; considering we only lost the use of a key player over 135 minutes of football because of the decision making of a referee whose general incompetence drew an official apology from PGMOL, we were daft enough to think they'd try a bit harder. Unfortunately they doubled down. How did that goal stand? How did they not see it? Were we denied a penalty again towards the end of the match and can we trade in these apologies for points or, if all else fails, alcohol? Maybe a consistent, sensible and professional official or two? Stoke are just so… Stoke. Has Alex Neil been imbued with the spirit of Tony Pulis? Suppose we should give him some credit for managing to take advantage of our weaknesses. So Leicester City away on Tuesday; how do Gav and Chris see this one playing out? Are we expecting some sort of response from both Mowbray and the players? The lads work their way through a wonderful list of enthusiastic, positive and glowing three word reviews from their fellow fans! All this and more! Former Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis joins Hugh Woozencroft and Matt Lawton for a special podcast from The Times. While talking some time away from the game following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday in 2020, he's been tracking the progress of his grandson; a talented eight-year-old enjoying the benefits of a category one academy at a Premier League club; a product of the Elite Player Performance Programme (EPPP) that was launched 10 years ago to produce more home grown players for the country's top clubs. It is, however, a system that Pulis believes is in need of a complete overhaul. Pulis also gives us his thoughts on the best young managers in the UK and whether negative comments about his style of management ever get to him.Read the full article here: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tony-pulis-most-academy-kids-are-never-going-to-play-football-not-enough-is-done-for-them-rjz2n3z6t See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
