Physiological peace and rewiring a creative soul. Creative pursuits helped my guest, Jaime Townzen, to overcome years of grief and caregiving stress to complete and publish her first novel, but it's not all about writing! In this episode Jaime shares her journey from high-achieving, people-pleasing pre-med student to embracing her passion for storytelling, a transition sparked by a pivotal moment of encouragement from a college professor. A period of caregiving and loss stalled Jaime's writing career, but a spontaneous decision to try watercolour painting during the pandemic provided her with a sense of physiological peace that years of traditional self-care could not reach, while also serving as a bridge to transport her back to writing. Her Masters' thesis became the springboard for her novel, Absorbed, a coming-of-age story that explores themes of 1990s nostalgia, teen identity and the complexities of consent. The conversation also touches on the importance of granting oneself grace during seasons of emotional exhaustion and the value of following the 'spark''of excitement to reignite inspiration. Jaime's story serves as a powerful reminder that creative outlets are not just hobbies, but vital tools for navigating life's most difficult transitions. You might also like:Blossoming in Art with Bianca GiarolaTech, Translations and Storytelling with John GuiverAdventures in all Dimensions with Gina FarrarClick here to buy Samantha EJ Button's poetry collection Not Wholesome Content I would love some financial support to help me to keep making this podcast. Jacaranda trees are a symbol of spring in Gauteng. These subtropical trees, with their lavender flowers, bloom yearly in Gauteng, especially Pretoria and Johannesburg, adding a touch of color and joy to the South African cities. Apart from their captivating color and shape, what makes these trees fascinating is that they are not indigenous to South Africa. Scientifically known as Jacaranda mimosifolia, the tree is originally from South America, specifically Brazil, and was introduced to South Africa in the 1800s. These resilient trees are considered an invasive species—they are not naturally part of the South African ecosystem but have adapted and can survive without human help. But due to their popularity and strong cultural value, people are permitted to plant and grow the trees within city limits. The trees became a significant part of the modernization of Pretoria in the 1900s, with samples given to residents to grow in their homes. With Gauteng's humid weather and rainy springs, the purple giants are thriving, creating a beautiful lavender carpet on windy days and perfect shade on a hot day. "Jacarandas were classed as an invasive species, but they have a clause in their invasive status,” said Jason Sampson, Head of Botanical Gardens at the University of Pretoria. "They are not listed in urban areas, so which means that because they have a strong cultural value, you're still allowed to plant them within city limits, like in Pretoria." The purple flowers bloom for about two to three weeks before the leaves come out, making the experience even more special. They've also become the perfect background for pictures, with residents snapping a shot whenever they have a moment. Their striking colors beautifully contrast the concrete building. A resident in Johannesburg, Naledi Mnisi told The Associated Press how she enjoys jogging in the morning while admiring the beauty of the jacarandas. "Jacarandas make me feel inspired," said Mnisi. "They represent a new season, a time of growth, and when you are running in the morning, it's easier to get up and get going as opposed to like winter, where it's gloomy and dark." This article was provided by The Associated Press.

In this powerful interview, David Ditchfield recounts his extraordinary near-death experience (NDE) following a horrific train accident in Cambridge, UK, in 2006. Once at rock bottom as a functional alcoholic, David was transformed spiritually after being pulled under a speeding train and, just before critical surgery, encountering beings of light in the afterlife. This profound NDE awakened remarkable creative abilities, revealing hidden talents for music and painting. Despite having no formal classical music training and an inability to read or write music, David has composed two symphonies and a rhapsody—every piece premiering at sold-out concerts, including a commission from The Cambridge Clarinet Choir. His inspiring NDE paintings have been displayed in major exhibitions, including a year-long show at the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. David's story, recently featured in a BBC World Service documentary, is a testament to human resilience and the profound, positive changes that can arise from even the darkest moments. He continues to compose and paint in Cambridge, sharing a message of recovery, hope, spiritual growth, manifestation, and authenticity. Does the Bible give us some "early warning signs" of the Antichrist? Don't believe everything you hear on the internet about the newfound identity of the Antichrist, his favorite TV shows, and what he had for breakfast. God's Word doesn't give us an artist's sketch of the Man of Sin - but it does have some tips for spotting him early. Jim will mention 3 of those, today. We'll complete our series, The Fig Tree is Blossoming, with this sermon in the book of Daniel. It's called: The Career of the 11th Horn. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Right Start can also be heard on One Christian Radio 107.7FM & 87.6FM in New Plymouth, New Zealand. You can purchase a copy of this message, unsegmented for broadcasting and in its entirety, for $7 on a single CD by calling +1 (800) 984-2313, and of course you can always listen online or download the message for free. This section of something I have been writing lately, has to do with Prabhupāda's statement about how chanting Harē Kṛṣṇa is forced meditation; I'm just interpreting that. I've included some other śāstra, which I'll just read to you briefly. In other words, it's a brief segment excerpt. At Nectar of Instruction, verse three. In his purport, Śrīla Prabhupāda tells how powerful such a prayer can be. "Devotional service," Prabhupāda writes, "is so pure and perfect that once having begun, one is forcibly dragged to ultimate success." In other words, for those who pray for Kṛṣṇa's help, Kṛṣṇa takes personal care and pulls them in the right direction. Anugraha, often translated as mercy, literally means "to grab and pull." Chanting japa invites Kṛṣṇa to grab and pull us to him. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, in his last bhajan in Śaraṇāgati, tells how the Holy Name abducts him, taking him directly to Kṛṣṇa. "The Holy Name is the bud of the flower of divine love, and it is the very abode of astonishing mellows. Such is the power he manifests that when his holy name starts to blossom a little further, it then reveals his own divine form and qualities. Thus my heart is abducted and taken directly to Kṛṣṇa. Blossoming fully, the flower of the holy name takes me to Vraj and reveals to me his own love dalliance. This name gives to me my own eternal spiritual body, keeps me right by Kṛṣṇa's side, and completely destroys everything related to this immortal frame of mine." Abduct means "the action of taking someone away by force." Kṛṣṇa, by his supreme powers, personally escorts those who chant his divine name back to his supreme abode. Kṛṣṇa's name is so kind that he helps even those who accidentally chant His names, what to speak of those who chant with love? As Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 11.2.55, The Yogendras say the Supreme Personality of God is so kind to the conditioned souls that if they call upon him by speaking his holy name, even unintentionally or unwillingly, the Lord is inclined to destroy innumerable sinful reactions in their hearts. https://vedabase.io/en/library/sb/11/2/55 ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #mantrameditation #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

A single moment changed everything for Ghanaian visual artist Nana Frimpong Oduro. It began with a quiet walk, a dying tree, and a gifted camera from a stranger. That moment led him away from architecture and toward a new life in photography. In this episode, I sit down with Nana to explore how he built a career rooted in emotion, storytelling, and self-discovery. He shares how he creates powerful images without technical equipment. Instead, he relies on instinct, connection, and the people closest to him. His work is raw, painterly, and deeply human. This conversation is for artists seeking clarity on their path. Nana's story offers insight, encouragement, and a reminder that your creative voice is worth following. Listen in and reconnect with the reason you started creating in the first place.
