Today we’re bringing you a fascinating conversation with Batwoman’s Nicole Kang on country icon Patsy Cline’s ‘Sentimentally Yours’, the last album the legendary singer recorded before her tragically premature death at age 30. Nicole tells the story of how Cline’s music formed part of the tapestry of her childhood and became an essential shibboleth of her relationship with her taciturn immigrant father and spoke to his relationship with his adopted home country. Nicole tells the story of discovering the album anew as an adult in the midst of heartbreak and how it led her to open a new dialogue with her father about her childhood. We talk about identity, assimilation, direct emotion, the idea of Nicole playing Patsy on Broadway, the mystique around artists who died young and Nicole performs a poem from her one-woman show that speaks to the impact of Patsy Cline’s music on her.
tl;dr: 'One Day All This Will Be Yours' is a wickedly funny and inventive look at time travel. The novella's protagonist is the sole survivor of The War to End All Wars. That epithet seems unlikely given how many wars the world has seen, with each conflict being named so. But in this case, it might actually be true, since the weapons used are time travel devices. Welcome to The Table is Yours' first anthology. We bring you: The First Scroll: A New Age Begins. In April of 2018, a little over a year today, Fantasy Flight Games produced The First Scroll. It is a compilation of the first seven, introductory, stories for their reboot of Legend of the Five Rings. When this was released I, like many, was hopeful that they would continue to release anthologies. So far FFG has not.FFG still may make them, but today I, along with my extremely helpful and wonderful team of readers and editors, are releasing our take on The First Scroll. We will continue to make them as succinct and comprehensive collections of the fiction of that cycle. The Table is Yours has gone through several transformations in a couple of years that it has existed. I refuse to truly let it die. I am convinced that the material we are producing is as timeless as the story itself. We are not a newscast. Our material doesn't have an expiration date. With that in mind, we want to give everyone a chance to consume the story however they can, and if they prefer audio books, then we are happy to oblige. I want to thank first Fantasy Flight Games for taking our game and treating it well. The story is one of the most iconic and necessary parts of L5R to be L5R. You have treated it with the utmost respect and care. I Look forward to adapting more of your work. Next, I want to thank the team. Even in the beginning, The Table is Yours was not only my show. I have always had help. I want to give huge thanks to: Kakita Kaori who really pushed me to restart and resume; Max Williams for lending his voice, even if his Yakamo deserves a solid punch to the head; Masami for her incredible organizational sense and keeping us on track as well as some editing work; and Benjamin Naveaux for tackling the editing with me to keep the workflow smooth with consistent releases. Lastly, I want to thank you, the listeners. Reading, editing, publishing, producing, adapting, and directing this cast has been an excellent project. When the reboot came I knew I wanted to be a part of the community in a larger capacity, to give back. Thank you for listening.
