The Founderz Lounge Episode #89 with Don Varady and Steve Bon.In this episode of Business & Bullsh*t, Don and Steve break down why community still wins in a distracted digital world. They talk about the startup boom in America, what the rise in entrepreneurship really means, and why more people are trying to build businesses than ever before. They also unpack Peloton's comeback, how smart brands stay relevant, and why small strategic changes can matter more than chasing constant reinvention. They also get into Taco Bell's push into beverages, the rise of smart glasses, digital distraction, and what happens when technology keeps making life more connected but less human. Don's big point in this episode is simple: real business growth still comes from real relationships, local visibility, and actually being part of your community, not just pouring more money into ads, SEO, and digital noise. If you care about entrepreneurship, local marketing, startup growth, community involvement, brand relevance, and building a business that people actually remember, this episode is for you.Timestamps:[00:00] Trailer and Intro[01:01] Founderz Roundup[01:02] Coastal Entrepreneur Awards[02:59] Startup boom in America[06:35] Peloton's comeback[12:04] Random Bullsh*t[12:18] Taco Bell coffee and Live Más Cafes[15:09] Smart glasses and digital distraction[20:04] Founderz Hot Take[20:35] Why community involvement still wins[24:39] What The Hell Is This?[24:54] Crochet dolls and Positive PooKey Takeaways:• There are more people trying to become entrepreneurs than ever, but most still underestimate how hard it is to build something real. ~Don Varady• Peloton's comeback shows that brands do not always need a total reinvention. What's more important is a handshake, look in the eyes, forming a relationship.” ~Don Varady• People in business do business with people that do business with them. ~Steve Bon• “I don't think we need to be any more distracted than we already are.” ~Steve Bon• Local B2B relationships can be more valuable than spending more money trying to advertise directly to consumers. ~Don VaradyConnect with Don and Steve…Don Varady:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/don.varady/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/donvarady/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/don-varady-450896145 Steve Bon:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephenbon Instagram: https://instagram.com/stevebon8 Tune in to every episode on your favorite platform: Website: https://www.thefounderzlounge.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheFounderzLounge Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Nurr4XjBE747qJ9Zjth0G Apple Music: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-founderz-lounge/id1461825349 The Founderz Lounge is Powered By:Clean Eatz:Website: https://cleaneatz.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CleanEatzLife/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cleaneatzlife/ Website: https://cleaneatz.com/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJRGrE-Xv4IMW_DbxSOTGGA Bon's Eye Marketing:Website: https://bonseyeonline.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bonseyemarketing Instagram: https://www.linkedin.com/company/bon's-eye-marketing/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/bon's-eye-marketing/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@bonseyemarketing9477

Send us Fan MailWe're joined by American expat resident Cherie Siebert to trace Vienna from its Habsburg-scale grandeur to its everyday pleasures. Vienna can feel like a living museum and a laid-back neighborhood on the same afternoon. We talk through how easy it is to get around on foot and by public transportation, where palace areas like Hofburg, Schönbrunn, and the Belvedere fit into a real day, and why seasonal markets mix architecture, craft, and local tradition. From St Stephen's Cathedral's tower and crypt to the surprising places where Roman ruins appear under your feet, Vienna keeps handing you history. Then we follow the sound. Cherie shares her favorite place to hear classical music, the Musikverein Golden Hall, plus the pull of the Vienna State Opera. As for art, the city's deep museum bench, including Gustav Klimt's iconic “The Kiss.” We also make room for the city's hard truths, including Holocaust memorial reminders found by simply wandering the center. To round it out, we get into Vienna coffeehouse culture, where to skip long tourist lines, why locals treat cake and coffee as a ritual, and how wine bars and nearby wine inns expand the food story. We also cover parks, Danube swimming spots, the Prater Ferris wheel at night, and easy day trips by train to Salzburg, the Wachau Valley, Bratislava, Budapest, and even Prague. Flat whites are out and iced coffees are in - and there's a wide range of factors behind this change. Cafes across the nation have noticed an uptick in younger customers reaching for cold drinks over hot. Flight Coffee co-founder Richard Corney says there's been a rise in people buying iced drinks, as well as chilled RTD coffees. "I don't have stats off the top of my head in terms of value now, but we've definitely seen a big consumer shift in how coffee's being consumed - mainly lead by Gen Z." We hear from the lead author who tells us what went wrong, and the insights that can still be drawn from apparent ‘failures'. Next we turn our eyes to shisha smoking in the UK. With shisha or “hookah” cafes on the rise, we explore the smoking habit in more detail. What are the effects on health? And why are UK laws poor at regulating the practice? In today's episode, we explore how remote workers are transforming Canada's cafe culture—and not always for the better. Coffee shops are grappling with laptop-toting customers who camp out all day on a single purchase, forcing owners to get creative with policies like purchase-per-hour requirements and designated work zones. Then, we head north to the Yukon, where the government is streamlining mining regulations to attract investment in critical minerals like tungsten—a move that could give Canada leverage in upcoming trade negotiations with the U.S. Plus Trump declares the Iran conflict nearly over, Canada commits nearly $1 billion to domestic defence innovation, and Live Nation settles its antitrust case with major concessions. TALK TO ME, TEXT ITA wine bar full of people on dates with AI chatbots sounds like satire, but it's real—and it sparks a bigger question we wrestle with: what happens to human connection when apps become our closest companions? We pull apart the scene at an NYC “companion cafe,” from laptops on stands to role-play intimacy, and ask whether digital romance is a coping tool, a symptom of loneliness, or both. The mood turns as we square up to devastating headlines that are hard to carry day after day. That emotional whiplash is why we chase lighter stories, even when they're messy. Enter the billboard love campaign: one woman buys ads, fields thousands of applications, and wraps dating in NDAs and funnels. Is it bold self-advocacy, or a spectacle engineered for attention? We weigh the optimism against the cost of turning romance into a marketing plan, and what it reveals about how visibility shapes modern relationships. Then we dive into a viral workplace standoff: a veteran passed over for promotion, asked to train the 25-year-old hired above her, and saying no. We pull the knot apart—seniority vs merit, ageism concerns, the ethics of free training labor, and the art of holding boundaries without torching your career. The negotiation ends in severance, but the lessons stick: document everything, know your value, and don't confuse team spirit with exploitation.Between coffee runs and Alabama weather whiplash, we keep it human and close the loop with a community moment—your long-weekend stories and a request for prayers for a loved one's hip appointment. If you're curious about AI dating, bold bids for love, and the politics of promotion, you'll find both grit and grace here. Listen, share your take on the wildest story, and if this resonated, subscribe and leave a review so more people can join the conversation.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREE Thanks for listening! The experience of the customer day-in and day-out is often treated as a given. Something that is expected, but not something that is earned. We work to The real focus of our efforts should be on training and resourcing our staff to deliver a consistently excellent product, space, and hospitality experience every time. Are we truly doing that? Today on Shift Break we will be talking about how training not only needs to be harder than the work we are training for, but that training, coaching, and continued support needs to emerge as the calling card of specialty coffee or else we will continue to be known as people who talk a big game in our marketing, but miss the mark in the real world. On today's episode we begin by discussing China's arbitrary detaining of an Indian transit passenger in Shanghai, and how that connects with China's territorial disputes with both India and Japan, as well as China's cult-like believe in the "One China" propaganda. Next, we look at a small group of pastors who were arrested in October, and how they turned their cells into outreach centers, and avoided beating and torture (for now). They hope to return to prison soon (seriously)! And last, as we go through this week's Pray for China cities, a number of things come up, including my memories of a good friend (Dan the Man), China's state propaganda shop, and the dog restaurants of Tieli.
