In our latest Session, Juliet talks to film director, visual artist and composer Imran Perretta about his new feature film Ish (2025), due to be released in the UK and Ireland on 31 July, as well as his short film the destructors (2020) and his installation A Riot in Three Acts, first exhibited at Somerset House in 2024. El aclamado director rumano Cristián Mungiu alzó el sábado la segunda Palma de Oro de su carrera por "Fjord", un drama sobre las diferencias culturales entre los países de Europa a través de una piadosa pareja rumano-noruega que se instala con su familia en un fiordo. Cuando las maestras de los niños descubren moretones en sus cuerpos, la sociedad comienza a cuestionar las costumbres conservadoras de los padres evangélicos y estalla un álgido debate en medio de la atmosfera glacial nórdica. “Déjenme por favor saborear este momento. The Orphanage (2007) ​ The Orphanage (Spanish: El orfanato) is a 2007 Spanish gothic supernatural horror film and the debut feature of Spanish filmmaker J. A. Bayona. The film stars Belén Rueda as Laura, Fernando Cayo as her husband, Carlos, and Roger Príncep as their adopted son Simón. The plot centers on Laura, who returns to her childhood home, an orphanage. Laura plans to turn the house into a home for disabled children, but after an argument with Laura, Simón goes missing.  The film's script was written by Sergio G. Sánchez in 1996 and brought to the attention of Bayona in 2004. Bayona asked his long-time friend, director Guillermo del Toro, to help produce the film and to double its budget and filming time. Bayona wanted the film to capture the feel of 1970s Spanish cinema; he cast Geraldine Chaplin and Belén Rueda, who were later praised for their roles in the film.   Personal Shopper (2017)   Personal Shopper is a 2016 supernatural psychological thriller film written and directed by Olivier Assayas. The film stars Kristen Stewart as a young American woman in Paris who works as a personal shopper for a celebrity and tries to communicate with her deceased twin brother.  An international co-production between Belgium, Czech Republic, France and Germany,  the film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Assayas shared the Best Director Award with Cristian Mungiu, who directed Graduation. The film was released on 14 December 2016 in France and 10 March 2017 in the United States. Director Cristian Mungiu discusses his new film, R.M.N., with fellow Director Victoria Hochberg in a Q&A at the DGA theater in Los Angeles. In the conversation, Mungiu discusses the importance of diagetic sound and ambience in the film, the subconscious effect the film's visual imagery contributes to the mood, and how he takes the time to fully understand his material before working on a film. The film tells the story of a father who returns home to his family in their Transylvanian village in Romania after a violent incident at his job in Germany. When the local factory hires foreign workers, deep-rooted impulses and animosities emerge, causing ethnic and economic resentments and shattering the veneer of peace in the community.

This week I'm back with another Indie Movie Review. I set out to do at least one a month but I have not released any since Free Skate back in January so you'll get a few in the coming weeks until I catch up. Today's entry is R.M.N. A Romanian film that has been making waves since debuting at Cannes last year. Though the film is set in Romania, the main theme of the film applies to any Western country. While you are tracking the main plot, you'll also want to pay attention to the subplots as everything comes together in dramatic fashion at the conclusion of the film. I touch on the details of the film in this review but do not feel I spoiled anything until the very end and there is a substantial spoiler warning before I get into those details.
