Episode 514 - Dana S Diaz - How Narcissistic Abuse Creates Confusion and Conflict Within VictimsDana S. Diaz studied journalism and psychology at DePaul University. While there's no better teacher than life experience and Dana has had life-long experiences with narcissistic abuse, her education did give her the ability to accurately verbalize and express how narcissistic abuse creates confusion and conflict within victims.Today, Dana is a proud voice for fellow victims who are unable, afraid, or ashamed to share their experiences. She strives to create awareness and understanding to ensure victims are given the support they need to first understand their situation and then begin the healing process. Her first book, chronicling her own abusive marriage that lasted nearly three decades, started as a journal that she hid under the couch cushion in the basement. When she isn't speaking out on narcissistic abuse, Dana can be found listening to music by Eric Hutchinson, Elle King, Green Day, Amy Winehouse, Julia Michaels and Taylor Swift. She equally loves her gray Converse shoes (she wears them every day!) and her Toyota FJ Cruiser.Dana watches the sun rise and set every single day, and enjoys hikes in the woods. She absolutely loves animals for their sensitivity and loving hearts, and has two cats, Kitty Kitty and Tigger. Dana makes her home in Illinois with her husband Doug.https://danasdiaz.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca

Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIn this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, Analytic Dreamz explores the meteoric rise of Canadian pop star Tate McRae with her latest single "Sports Car." Born on July 1, 2003, in Calgary, McRae first gained recognition placing third on 'So You Think You Can Dance' in 2016. Her music career took off with the debut EP 'All the Things I Never Said' in 2020, followed by hits like "You Broke Me First" and "r u ok." "Sports Car," released on January 24, 2025, marks a bold shift, introducing an edgier pop sound with introspective lyrics, co-written with Julia Michaels, Grant Boutin, and Ryan Tedder. The song is part of her upcoming third album, 'So Close to What'. "Sports Car" has not only received acclaim for its sultry sound reminiscent of early 2000s pop but also for its visually striking music video directed by Bardia Zeinali. The track debuted at #24 on Global Spotify with 3.248M streams, reaching #9 on US Spotify charts and securing a spot on "New Music Friday" playlists for over 1.5 million users. Despite no confirmed positions on the Billboard Hot 100 or UK Singles Chart, the song's cultural impact, including references to the Ying Yang Twins, has sparked significant online engagement.Analytic Dreamz also discusses McRae's 2025 'Miss Possessive Tour', which sold out all North American dates almost immediately. The tour, her first in arenas, kicks off on March 18 in Mexico City, covering 50 dates across multiple continents with Zara Larsson as a special guest for the U.S. and Canada leg. Ticket prices have varied, with some resale markets showing significant demand, such as Los Angeles tickets starting at $146 on Viagogo. This segment encapsulates McRae's journey from a dance competition to global music stardom, highlighting the success of "Sports Car" and the anticipation surrounding her upcoming tour.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Thank You For Your Time: Understanding the Experiences of Job Seekers in Effective Altruism, published by Julia Michaels on July 10, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Summary The purpose of this research is to understand the experiences of job seekers who are looking for high-impact roles, particularly roles at organizations aligned with the Effective Altruism movement (hereafter referred to as "EA job seekers" and "EA organizations," respectively).[1] Organizations such as 80,000 Hours, Successif, High Impact Professionals, and others already provide services to support professionals in planning for and transitioning into high-impact careers. However, it's less clear how successful job seekers are at landing roles that qualify as high impact. Anecdotally, prior EA Forum posts suggest that roles at EA organizations are very competitive, even for well-qualified individuals, with an estimated range of ~47-124 individuals rejected for every open role. Given that some EA thought leaders (Ben West, for example) have suggested working in high-impact roles as a pathway to increasing one's individual lifetime impact (in addition to "earning to give"), it seems important to understand how well this strategy is working. By surveying and speaking with job seekers who identify as effective altruists directly, I have identified common barriers and possible solutions that might be picked up by job seekers, support organizations (such as those listed above), and EA organizations. The tl;dr summary of findings: A majority of EA job seekers are recent graduates or early career professionals with

This episode is especially for you if you want: a) to develop your creativity b) massively boost your public speaking skills, or c) want to be charismatic but think you're too quiet or d) are curious about what it's like working in the pop music industry. Who knew that the factors that make a hit song actually have a lot in common with great public speaking? (Hint: a lot has to do with the right hemisphere of the brain!) Drew Lawrence is a multi-platinum selling songwriting and recording artist signed to Warner Music. He is best known for his work with Christina Perri including co-writing her international hit song “Jar of Hearts”. Drew's songs have been recorded by a variety of worldwide artists. He and Laura meet at the intersection of music writing and public speaking. They also look at Taylor Swift's career and the influence of having top talent v. doing the work. I have a passion for helping people improve their speaking skills, recognizing the power of effective communication and building a lasting legacy through music. A leader cannot inspire people without emotional connection built on authenticity. Learn some charisma and communication shortcuts from Laura's chat with Drew. Their A-List takeaways include:
Kara has been singing since she was a kid and pursuing music professionally since her early 20's. She started a short-lived girl band after high school, which included a record deal. Kara had a short stint where she drove for Uber and would always serenade her passengers. She even had the opportunity to participate in an Uber campaign. She showed up on set and was put in a car, told to sing an original song and before she knew it, Julia Michaels was riding as her passenger. The campaign turned out to be a national commercial, and Kara's original song was showcased for the world to hear. Now, Kara works the nightshift as a caregiver for the elderly as well as individuals with developmental disabilities. During the day, Kara works on her music and songwriting, posts covers to her YouTube channel, and, when she's not working, loves to gig at local bars and restaurants. Kara even dropped her first EP last summer, which garnered positive publicity and the opportunity to perform at venues in the U.K.

We had the pleasure of interviewing maryjo over Zoom video!A 21-year-old singer/songwriter hailing from Cleveland, maryjo has the kind of unforgettable voice made for heart-melting piano ballads. But while her songs show a phenomenal vocal command—often drifting from full-throated belting to a gorgeously fragile delivery inflected with cracks—it took years for the Knoxville-born artist to overcome her fear of singing in front of others. “My family's very musical and singing came to me really naturally, but for some reason I became super-private about it after we moved to Cleveland when I was eight,” says maryjo, who also started writing songs as a little girl and took up piano in fourth grade. As she got older, she worked through her shyness by sharing videos on social media, steadily amassing a devoted following that now includes over 1.3 million followers on TikTok. After bringing her powerhouse vocals to the stage on season 19 of “American Idol,” maryjo landed a deal with Atlantic Records and set to work on her debut single, “Love Fools”: a stripped-back but spellbinding ballad featuring the soul-stirring piano work of two-time Academy of Country Music Award-winner Gordon Mote. With more new music on the way, maryjo arrived at the breathtaking emotion of “Love Fools” by staying true to her instincts. “When I first went into sessions, the sound we were coming up with was very much like cookie-cutter pop,” she recalls, naming Elvis Presley and Julia Michaels among her main inspirations. “Finally I had to stop and say, ‘This isn't what I'm supposed to be doing.' I took a step back and asked myself why I was trying for something that didn't feel right, and because of that we honed in on a sound that feels like me: something I can put so much emotion into when I'm singing, so that I can give the audience something real to connect to.”We want to hear from you! The Talk of Fame Podcast got to chat with Izzy Potter who is a singer/songwriter currently based in Nashville, TN with roots in New York. She is an independent artist with universally relatable, poignant, and often personal lyrics. Her first self released EP “Place Called Home” has her most requested high energy single “Juniper” to play live. Izzy's lyrics have depth and insight that is both playful and intriguing, and has been remarked as “spot on” for such a young talent. Her storytelling is invoked with the spirit of acoustic pop/folk style sounds. Her storytelling style is often compared to artists like Taylor Swift, Julia Michaels, Noah Kahn, Fleetwood Mac, and Phoebe Bridgers. She has been songwriting since she was 12 years old and was recognized by NSAI songwriting evaluators as “One to Watch.” In New York, Izzy can be found anywhere around town playing with local bands--such as her Bowery Ballroom NYC debut alongside Long Islands indie-rock band Arcy Drive--playing local venues, bars, restaurants, festivals including the Huntington Paramount Stage, Arlene's Grocery, and various Breaking Sound events. Her remarkable prowess on the bass guitar soon landed her a number of high-profile television gigs spanning America's Got Talent to backing up pop star Julia Michaels on TODAY. By the end of her senior year at NYU, Rykman's virtuoso talent and infectious spirit saw her invited to join pianist Marco Benevento's band (as recommended by Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz), with whom she performed countless shows including dates with Vulfpeck, Dispatch, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, Guster, and many more. Rykman soon formed her own namesake band, accompanied by Adam November (guitar, loopers, effects) and Chris Corsico (drums). She quickly earned a reputation as a mesmerizing, unmissable live act, lighting up an array of international stages with headline sets, show-stealing festival performances (including Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, and Sweetwater 420 Fest), shows alongside Khruangbin, Guster, and The Disco Biscuits (among others), and recent appearances sitting in with the 8G Band on NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers. That same spellbinding power was soon captured on a series of independent singles, including “Elevator” and the million-streaming “Plants,” both of which have now been newly enhanced for Rykman's debut album, JOYRIDE. Written and recorded with childhood friend, producer Gabe Monro, the album serves as a vivid canvas for Rykman's vibrant expression and chameleonic songcraft. We had the pleasure of interviewing She Is Jules over Zoom video!Through thoughtful reflection, rising songstress She Is Jules has created an infectious pop anthem for anyone struggling with mental health or any other chronic illness. Her captivating single, “Do Therapists?,” is streaming now on all major platforms, a witty, pop-forward track raising the question, “do therapists need therapy because of their patients?” Therapists carry a lot of trauma on their shoulders, and this captivating perspective focuses on that internalized fear as She Is Jules asks “...does my therapist need therapy because of me?” The incredibly powerful attributes of this perspective create a conversation that many may have been too vulnerable to bring up. She Is Jules has an incredibly kind and compassionate air to her, and “Do Therapists?” captures her essence intertwined with flowing, vibrantly honest storytelling.“Do Therapists?” was co-written by Sam Bierman and Alexa Riesenberg. Bierman also doubled as the producer for this single, invigorating an already compelling song with masterfully crafted soundscapes. Jules has an incredible team when it comes to giving her visions and dreams a voice. She is inspired by artists like Taylor Swift, Julia Michaels, and Halsey; their raw, authentic storytelling and writing abilities inspire artists like Jules to share truly thought-provoking stories that listeners of any genre can relate to. She Is Jules is a knockout songwriter as a result of her straightforward, authentic approach to music which allows her to meet listeners as she is. She is dedicated to creating a space where listeners are able to enjoy her music and feel safe being their true empathic selves through every chapter life has to offer.More about She Is Jules:From acoustic pop to electronic dance music, She Is Jules does it all - yet her brut tone and etherial songwriting remains a voice that you won't forget. Starting at the young age of 8, Julianna Pollifrone picked up a guitar and started her journey to becoming an artist. Her voice can be heard throughout songs all around the world; amassing over +113 million streams on Spotify alone.
