Trying to maintain balance Physical exertion, running working out, stretching Get enough sleep Listen to yourself Talk to your friends, connect with people Forgive yourself for feeling bad, accept where you are and allow it to run its course Positive self talk Doing things that align with your purpose Doing nothing is still doing something Your body knows what you need when you need it, listen. Learn to say NO Mental health, just like physical health, is an active lifestyle. You must create an environment that supports a healthy mindset, through healthy boundaries and healthy outlets for your body and mind to grow. The best thing to focus on is always on preventative measures like showing up for yourself and knowing when your batteries are drained and need a recharge. Taking care of yourself is always priority number one! Q: What do you do on the road? Take time for yourself Have quiet time/personal time Accepting the fact that everything won’t go perfect, and going with the flow Remind yourself that the audience doesn’t know what is or isn’t “right” so go easy on yourself if you do make a mistake. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to express yourself in front of an audience, just remember “I am enough!” Remembering to have alone time and make sure that you are showing up to every gig or interaction with a balanced state of mind. Being stuck in a tight van, or just being away from family or home for long periods of time might make you feel disconnected. Remember the tools you use to stay grounded when you are not on tour and make sure to implement them as much as you can. Sometimes silence is all you may need. Moderated by Kelly Fleek Panelists included: Megan Jasper — Larger record label “Sub Pop” Ben Jenkins —Small-sized record label “Killroom Records” Abbie Gobeli —KEXP Radio Station DJ, and manager for the band “Actors” Shannon Hemmett — From the band “Actors” Q: What makes a band “Label Ready?” Talent A willingness to put in the work Taking yourself seriously as a band and as a business Have music that resonates with your audience Believe in what you do and make it meaningful "LLC Factor" Experience doesn't play a big role in their decision-making process. Jasper brought up the example of the artist Yuno, who is now under the Sub Pop record label. She talked about his inexperience with the music industry, but because he had a special sound, was very talented, and is incredibly driven, the record label had no qualms with taking a chance on him. Q: What are labels looking for today? Same as always, great art and great people to work with. Many things are changing in the music industry, that is not one of them. There are many ways to get your music out to the masses, DIY or with a label, one thing remains the same, great music will always be great music. Q: Is it important to live in a city of music? No Whatever location you live in provides a special foundation of experiences that foster your own unique sound, giving you a unique perspective to draw from, leading to new music. Living in a music city might be overwhelming for some because it creates a high-pressure environment from the need to stand out amongst a gaggle of other talented and driven musicians, just like you. That being said, sometimes it is important to move to gain new perspectives, and to grow. It doesn’t matter where, as long as you feel comfortable and are able to express yourself creatively. Touring, on the other hands, is much more important if you want to be seen. Q: Is it necessary to rub elbows with everyone? The panelist agreed that it is NOT necessary to go around collecting the names of people that you are in bed with, but they also mentioned that having friends in the industry is always helpful. If networking is not your cup of tea, remember these words, “Great art always finds a way!” Some tips on networking Connect and collaborate Build friendships with bands in other cities Help and support each other Before heading off stage, some ideas the panelists left us with are as follows: You band label is a marriage, it is important to set healthy boundaries, honesty and communication is key. Genres are not very important right now, Spotify is even talking about creating a new way to get music discovered that would help artists that are in-between genres. Focus on writing and playing good music! The job of a label is to help push bands to the next level, strategize and execute new ideas to reach greater audiences, and ultimately, create profits for both the band and themselves. Touring is CRUCIAL, tour as much as possible for your situation. If there is a label that speaks to you, don’t hesitate to send them a demo, they will listen to it eventually. Get your music out there! People always forgive a bad recording of a great song. Record it to your best ability or budget, and get it out!

A story which follows the growing process of Andrey Pavlenko, from the very beginning of his life, a child being raised in urban Russia, the miraculous events that followed which allowed my family and I to come over to America where a string of life events played a key role in the development of a strong spiritual connection with life itself. A man that was once consumed by the material world, one that didn't pay any merit to anything beyond that which he can observe, has found a way to transform not only his way of thinking, but his habits, his drive, his success, his relationships, his conversations, and his ability to create. From art to new businesses, once he found his way in this world, being interconnected with all that IS. The spark of creativity is within us all. We are all capable of creating and expressing our emotions through any means available to you. Whether that be art, music, talking, running, swimming, sculpting, welding, or anything else, that can come to mind. We are all capable of using any means that interests us, into an art because the art comes in when you apply your personality, your experiences into the task at hand. Anything can be art if you do something with enough passion. This is a story about a man that had to be an adult from the early age of 14. This man was handed a life that didn't allow for him to become better, more stable, balanced being because his parents weren't of any help to him, all throughout his life. He ended up getting emancipated because they were endangering his well being. He moved forward with life, with jobs to come to a realization that creating music gave him a feeling of divinity. He gets lost himself in the moment of creation of each beat, each note, melody, and the song as a whole. He provides you with the raw aspect of his mind at that point in time. You are able to reach through to him, his way of thinking, feeling, seeing, by experiencing the music. A place where he has found his passions but no way to further allow it to grow. with having to deal with being homeless in his past, he learned a lot about life, and has learned to appreciate the days that he has, all that he has, and when he doubts himself or his music, he brings himself back to possibly losing it all and returning back to that place after finding a life that he was at peace with. If there is one thing that I love and admire, that is a person that has figured out their passions in life and is letting nothing stand in their way. Daniel Debrocke is a wonderful man with a fantastic story. I didn't go into the same amount of depth I go into with my guests in the studio but getting an hour with Daniel was a great experience and I'm sure we will be hearing from him about more of his journey sometime in the future. Daniel and I discuss his regime and day to day life. He tells me what he likes to focus on, what goals he sets out for himself day to day and long term. He tells me some of the difficulties he has overcome in life that has placed him into the path in life that he has chosen for himself with such love and passion. He tells us how he stays motivated, and in reality, he tells us that if you love what you're doing, you don't need to stay motivated. Some of the things that I picked up from the conversation were to question everything. Put your happiness FIRST whatever you do. If it doesn't make you happy, if you aren't being fair to yourself, stop doing whatever it is and find something that's more relevant to you and your life. Each time you fail you get a chance to self-reflect on all of your choices, see all the things that can be improved and you can grow from, which in your journey you will realize that only failures breed success! One of the things that really stuck with me and made me recall an important part of MY life and gave me some energy and a good reminder is that "Once you wake up one part of your life, it will have residual effects on the rest of your life" because you prove to yourself that something you once thought was impossible is looking at your face, being conquered by YOU. After you accept that, you ask yourself what else have you been wrong about and what ELSE are you capable of. One of the most common traps we fall for in our lives is Attachment. We get into a mind set that things have to be the way they are forever, with no changes whatsoever. Whether it be a relationship, a possession of yourself. Attaching yourself to material things, to people, to ideas all do one thing.. Limit you to the possibilities you are capable of! If you attach to one idea, you are no attached to the idea that you are NOT something else. Keep your options open, learn to love and appreciate without fearing loss of something or even a loss of identity. You are you, no matter what you chose to do with your life. On this week's podcast, Zack Hill which has made an appearance in the Generation K podcast with Kevin Hintz, comes down with his amazing wife to join me for a journey through raging river of unpredictable waters which we all call LOVE and all that comes along with it. If you have ever thought that love is a fairly tale you are very mistaken. Love takes a lot of work from both of the people involved. Sometimes it takes too much from us and we end up losing each other over trying to keep the relationship alive. This couple has been through so much and endure even more. They share with us what a real story of love sounds like. From the beginning when they hated each other, through many tests and obstacles in which they might have chosen not be physically present in each other's lives, but remained close, to the birth of their beautiful daughter which turned out to be filled with its own complications and obstacles to overcome. What was planned out to be a beautiful, natural water birth, quickly got thrown out the window to try to deliver the baby alive. Missing out on the ability to experience a proper connection with the baby would send many mothers into a depressing spiral, but we will soon find out how they turned their whole experience from a breaking point to a deep and an unbreakable aspect of their lives. Through all the hardships of their story together, they have always been facing tough and difficult situations, yet they sit in front of me, with their spirits high, love on full blast, and an outlook on life that brings light to any persons eyes! A story of a boy that was raised in a low income neighborhood. Always had a bad temper and had to stand up for himself just to survive. At an early age of 5 he suffered a traumatic accident that almost ended his life. There were times when things looked bleak and even downright hopeless, from his outlook on life, his family, his social status, etc. There came a point to where he had his whole life in his hands, and he found what really matters to him. He found his passions and his drive to at keep his head above water and find a reason to fight through the bullshit that was around him! Through the act of self expression in poetry, hip hop, and krump dancing, he is able to fulfill himself and try to inform the world all at once. I will follow this crusader on his journey. I could write a whole book to the reason of why I'm creating this podcast, in the mean time this is the smallest sliver of my vision and passion that have been driving me toward the spread of a new perspective to all that seek something more! Bringing in people that have survived tragic life experiences whether cancer, abuse, negligence, suicide, and much more. The homeless population that have stories of great achievement and great downfalls in life. The older generation that have been put inside senior homes to rot, never to be seen or visited again.
