Jayson Tatum struggled again, starting 1-of-5 before leaving in the third after getting poked in the eye. Marcus Smart contributed 17 points and Boston held the Nets without a three-pointer into the third quarter. The Celtics stuck around within one or a few possessions until Williams aggravated his turf toe late, heading to the bench while Tristan Thompson's unit yielded two Kyrie Irving jumpers and a devastating Kevin Durant steal-and-dunk that created a 10-point lead that Brooklyn built up to 11 to wrap a commanding second half. Tremont Waters, Grant Williams, Aaron Nesmith and other Celtics depth pieces failed to muster any more than 94 points in a low-scoring performance, as the reality that the Celtics could lose out became apparent after Brad Stevens said pregame that the team is weighing its options on how it'll handle health with the play in tournament inevitable.

Miami all but secured a first round bye, while the Celtics are heading to the play in tournament with three games remaining. Jimmy Butler peppered Marcus Smart and the Celtics defense with shots to pace Miami's offense ahead of Boston's comeback. Bam Adebayo scored consistently throughout, while veteran newcomer Trevor Ariza had a throwback performance against the lagging Celtics defense.
