Una selección ordenada cronológicamente de 158 columnas de Pedro Labra Herrera se concentran en La mirada crítica: 25 años de teatro chileno. Este es el nombre del libro que acaba de lanzar el catálogo de Liberalia Ediciones, escrito por el destacado periodista especializado en Cultura y Espectáculos, Pedro Labra. Durante 41 años desde la fenecida Revista Cosas, en paralelo cuatro en el diario La Segunda y luego veintitrés en El Mercurio, Labra ejerció la crítica de cine y teatro tomando el pulso de la cartelera santiaguina en ambas manifestaciones. Ahora publica su primer volumen en el que repasa las propuestas escénicas más significativas desde comienzos de los 90' hasta la eclosión de la pandemia, a través de 158 críticas suyas seleccionadas de un total de no menos de tres mil reseñas en cuatro décadas. Publicadas entre 1993 y 2020, son críticas de obras nacionales en temática, autoría y dirección, que fueron reunidas con el fin de revisar la riqueza de los aportes y evolución de este lenguaje artístico en el país. Incluye también un extenso, original y enjundioso estudio en el que analiza qué es la crítica y qué función cumple este género periodístico. “Son 25 años de la historia de Chile narrados desde el escenario. Es muy interesante ver cómo el teatro va construyendo la historia de sus tiempos”, dijo el reconocido psiquiatra, dramaturgo y actor, Marco Antonio de la Parra quien, junto a la periodista y presidenta del Círculo de Críticos de Arte, Ana Josefa Silva, estuvieron a cargo de la presentación en el lanzamiento oficial del libro efectuado el recién pasado sábado 14 de junio en la Librería del GAM, y que contó con la presencia de personalidades del medio artístico y cultural criollo, como el Premio a las Artes Escénicas Nacionales Presidente de la República 2023., Ramón López¸ las destacadas actrices Diana Sanz y Mariana Prat, la directora de Liberalia Ediciones, Berta Inés Concha, el laureado director teatral, Jesús Urqueta, el escritor Jorge Marchant, el pintor Enrique Campusano, la reconocida periodista fundadora de diversos medios, Verónica López, los críticos de Artes Escénicas, Marietta Santi y Leopoldo Pulgar, entre otros; además de seguidores, amigos y familiares del autor. Cada crítica tiene una presencia aislada y su vigencia muere a los días de su publicación. La idea de Labra fue entregar una revisión orgánica y condensada, detallada y rigurosa, de los muchos aciertos y diversidad expresiva de nuestros más talentosos dramaturgos, directores y colectivos, con el propósito de poner en valor los logros y evolución del quehacer artístico en esa área y lapso como un continuo creativo. Los textos compilados llevan por cierto el sello que caracterizó siempre su pluma y estilo: honesto, franco y exigente, sin temor a las reacciones adversas del medio. “Mi larga práctica laboral –una experiencia de vida única e irrepetible– me permitió ser testigo privilegiado y con perspectiva crítica de una prolífica y rica etapa del teatro nacional que, creo, en su conjunto aún no ha sido suficientemente destacado”, señala el autor. Agrega: “Como el escenario siempre es el reflejo de la realidad circundante, también subyace aquí la aspiración de que en estos montajes hayan resonado en alguna medida las preocupaciones y la atmósfera flotando en el ambiente político-cultural de su momento. Un solo ejemplo: el malestar social de la nación se anticipó en escena diez años antes de su estallido en octubre de 2019 y nadie lo percibió”. Del mismo modo el corpus da cuenta del cambio inevitable de gustos y estilos, así como sugiere la consolidación de una tradición a través del regreso a títulos clásicos. De actuales 78 años de edad, el especialista decidió aprovechar la ocasión para exponer el concepto de crítica periodística que desarrolló y aplicó durante su prolongada labor. En la primera parte de su libro establece qué –a su criterio– define una crítica, a quién se destina y le debe importar, qué funciones cumple, por qué es necesaria, y cómo se llega a ejercer esta singular profesión que adquiere matices diversos según quien la ejerza. “Este es un raro, solitario y controversial oficio”, señala, “a menudo incomprendido y confundido con su pariente, la crítica académica; difícil de explicar y más aún de aprender, por lo demás sumamente expuesto y con frecuencia vilipendiado”. Se agrega una serie de notas, reflexiones y otros considerandos sobre su práctica en Chile y el exterior. El estudio tiene un mérito extra: la bibliografía en español sobre el tema es casi inexistente. Tal como ha declarado Michael Billington, decano de la crítica de teatro en el mundo occidental, condecorado por la corona británica por sus más de 60 años de trayectoria (y a quien el libro cita en más de una oportunidad), el profesional chileno dice que va al teatro para enriquecerse a sí mismo y que su vida entera ha sido iluminada por un puñado de extraordinarias jornadas frente al escenario. Con la publicación del volumen, Labra se propone, a fin de cuentas, al menos dos objetivos esenciales: Uno, hacer presente la otra función de la crítica, menos conocida, pero de gran importancia, su valor como registro y testimonio de una forma artística por definición efímera e inasible, que deja de existir físicamente cuando cae el telón. El texto en la prensa que documenta un montaje escénico, es su única posibilidad de perdurar, de ser fijado en la memoria y preservado para la posteridad o quizás para un historiógrafo del futuro en un libro como éste. Lo otro es ratificar que, en definitiva, todo el esfuerzo que despliega el crítico va dirigido al lector-espectador, a quien aporta claves, guía y orienta hacia una percepción más rica, compleja y profunda del hecho teatral. A fin de que éste vaya afinando su sensibilidad y desarrollando su propia “mirada crítica”, la que contempla evaluando; aquella que observa alerta, concentrada, detenidamente, para luego establecer analogías y diferencias, y elaborar un juicio de valor argumentado. «Estas páginas reafirman algo obvio, pero no bastante difundido: la crítica teatral forma parte intrínseca de la historia del teatro de un país. El registro, la evaluación, la opinión sobre el devenir de su quehacer escénico, enseña, entrega claves, orienta a sus lectores y moviliza sus preferencias. Así se conecta directamente con el objeto criticado, formando parte del mismo tejido cultural». Welcome to Daily Bitachon. We continue with another beautiful teaching from Rabbenu Yonah on Mishleh Chapter 3, Pasuk 25. He writes these powerful words: One should rely on Hashem in all times of difficulty and darkness, knowing the truth that Hashem is rav l'hoshia—abundant in salvation—as we say every single day in our Amidah. Mikol tzarah/from all difficulties v'yeshuato ke'heref ayin/His salvation comes in the blink of an eye. Therefore, we must rely on Hashem's salvation even if a sword is on a person's throat. Rabbenu Yonah quotes a pasuk in Iyov: Hen yikteleni, lo ayachel/Even if he were to kill me, I would still hope toward Him." Where does this concept come from—that even if a sword is at your throat, you shouldn't give up hope? It's from a well known Gemara in Masechet Brachot: Chizkiyah HaMelech was ill. Yishayah the prophet came to him and said, " Command your household—you are dying and will not live; you are dying in this world and will not live in the next." Why? Because Chizkiyah chose not to have children, having foreseen with ruach hakodesh that his children would be wicked. The prophet rebuked him for this, saying, " That is not your concern. You must do what you are obligated to do, and Hashem will do what He must." Chizkiyah responded to the prophet, " Let me marry your daughter—perhaps through my merit and yours, we will have righteous children." But the prophet replied, " You're a dead man. I won't give you my daughter." Chizkiyah answered, " Prophet, please leave. I have a tradition from my grandfather's household that even if a sword is on one's neck, one should not give up hope." Who is this grandfather he's referring to? Rashi explains that it refers to David HaMelech. In Divrei Hayamim א , 21:16 , David HaMelech counted the people, and Hashem decreed punishment on them. David lifted his eyes and saw an angel of Hashem standing between heaven and earth, v'charbo shlufa b'yado/a drawn sword in his hand, netuya al Yerushalayim/stretched out over Jerusalem. And what did David Hamelech do? He prayed. Even though the sword was over him, he prayed. That is the source Chizkiyah HaMelech referred to, as he was descended from David HaMelech. But the Vilna Gaon, in his commentary in Sefer Kol Eliyahu , is troubled. He points out that the text doesn't say the sword was literally on David's neck—only that it was stretched over Yerushalayim. So metaphorically, yes—but do we have a source that a sword was truly on someone's neck? The Vilna Gaon refers us to Melachim א , 22: 30–33, and also Divrei Hayamim ב , 18:31–32. There, Yehoshafat was at war. He disguised himself and was in hiding, and the king of Aram sent assassins specifically to find and kill him—like a targeted assassination. They found him and were about to kill him. And the pasuk says: Vayizak Yehoshafat—Yehoshafat cried out—v'Hashem azro—and Hashem helped him—vayesitem Elokim mei'meno—God diverted them away from him. Miraculously, they disappeared. The Yalkut Shimoni comments on this episode, saying: melamed shelo yechaser ki'im hatzat harosh—all that was missing was the removal of his head. It was that close. According to the Vilna Gaon, this is the source Chizkiyah drew on. His ancestor Yehoshafat had a sword on his neck and didn't give up—and was saved.He was one step away. The Chomat Anach, from the Chida on Divrei Hayamim , brings down this same concept, similar to the Vilna Gaon. He explains that normally the term " Hashem " refers to midat harachamim (the attribute of mercy), while " Elokim " refers to midat hadin (the attribute of judgment). In that pasuk, both names are used, indicating that according to strict judgment, Yehoshafat should have died—but through his prayers, the judgment was transformed into mercy. This is our tradition—a tradition passed down through generations. Rabbenu Yonah concludes this piece by quotinga pasuk in Tehillim 62:9: Bitchu vo b'chol eit—"Rely on Hashem at all times." What does "at all times" mean? He explains: Gam b'eit shehatzarah krova—even when the trouble is very close, v'lo yeda adam derech l'hinatzel mimena—and a person has no idea how to escape, how he will get out of it—still, trust in Hashem. I once heard a beautiful story from Rav Yaakov Hillel related to this idea. It says, "Even if a sharp sword is on your neck." Why emphasize " sharp "? There was a Rabbi Antebi from Damascus. During a blood libel, he was imprisoned and subjected to psychological torture. They brought him to a guillotine, and the sword came falling down toward him. But it was meant as psychological warfare—the blade was dull. He said, a sword has two sides: sharp and dull. That, he explained, is what Chizkiyah HaMelech meant. If the sword is blunt there is still what to fear. But afilu cherev chada—even if it's a sharp sword—do not give up hope.

When they get there, Claire runs off to find her boyfriend Walter while Jacob and Abbie tell Lawrence that they're getting a divorce, and they're going to tell Claire here so that she's at her happy place and they ask Lawrence if he would break the news so that she can feel free to respond as she needs. But Claire's trip is already off to a bad start when she discovers that she's Walter's winter girlfriend. He's currently hanging out with his summer girlfriend. They drop the news, Claire is sad but not surprised. She decides to go hang out in the basement so she can be around the Christmas stuff. And she comes up with an idea - she wants one more Christmas as a family. Her parents are unsure but Lawrence is like WE'RE DOING IT! And we're flying Gams and Pop Pop out too! One problem arises and its that one of the hotel guests hates Christmas and he brings big money to the hotel so they have to make him happy. When Gams and Pop Pop show up, Pop Pop sees a women and immediately starts being weird. He opens up to Lawrence - he slept with this women 10 years ago and she's gonna be here all week. So Lawrence offers to cover for him as much as he can. And Lawrence keeps finding himself in people's mess when he discovers that on Jacob's camera, there's pictures from a camping trip and he seemed to be getting cozy with another women that's not Claire. Pop Pop decides to just stay in his room which leaves Gam to spend time by herself which leads to her actually hanging out with Claudia, the women her husband secretly had a one night stand with 10 years ago, which she opens up about how she's never quite gotten over this one night stand, not knowing she's talking about Gam's husband. We find out that Abbie had a little something with her boss. Basically everyone in this movie is a cheater. It finally basically all comes out right as it comes out that Claire's new puppy is missing. It's a whole thingClaire is sad and goes to be alone. She sneaks out and finds the puppy and comes back to find out that her parents are staying together. yay?
