This week we talk about Netflix's recent short film anthology, ‘African Folktales, Reimagined' where 6 filmmakers from Africa each made a short film inspired by a folktale from their region.  We rank the films and talk about each entry, digging into what aspects we loved and those we did not.

The 6th edition of The Ngalabi Short Film Festival took place at The International University of East Africa over three days from the 28th to the 30th of July 2022 and as is the tradition with this podcast we got together to talk about the short films that stood out for us. The Ngalabi Short Film Festival is organized by Goethe-Zentrum Kampala with a variety of shorts showcased from all over Africa & Germany. Filmed over 7 years, Softie is a documentary film about Kenyan political activitst Boniface Mwangi who journeys over the years from photojournalist, to activist to running for MP of Starehe constituency in Nairobi. The films look at this journey from his perspective and his families perspectives showing the difficulties for both of them. We discuss this film with the amazing, fellow podcaster Audrey Kawire Wabwire, listen to her podcast Power of the Streets which features young Africans leading human rights activism. In the first season, she speaks to some of the people leading the #metoo movement in Africa.
