One of the most vexing problems of the faith is explaining and understanding how a good God could allow evil in the world. If God is really good, how do we understand all the pain, suffering, trials, and tribulations in the world? Perhaps the greatest lie ever believed in Christianity is the reason that Jesus had to die and who killed him. The conventional view is that Jesus was punished in our place for our sins by the Father. The theological term for this view is called Penal Substitution.  But is that the truth? Was Jesus actually punished in our place? This punishment paradigm is problematic for several reasons. One of the biggest lies we believe about God is that He separates from us when we sin. We believe a Holy God cannot even look upon sin and therefore separates from us. We tear down the narrative many of us have believed from the Garden of Eden and then also seemingly proven on the cross when Jesus cries out, "My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?" Repair one of the most toxic lies you believe about God in this session.

How do we reconcile the God of the Old Testament, who appears vengeful, violent and angry with the compassionate, loving Jesus of the New Testament? In this message, Eric outlines the supreme revelation of Jesus being the perfect revelation of the Father. 

What do you believe happened on the Cross? Was Jesus punished for our sins or was He creating a covenant of forgiveness? Eric preaches the second part of his series on how our view of God's character is built through the narratives we believe. He shares why the narrative that Jesus was punished in our place is not only harmful to God's character, but actually an unreliable interpretation. 

Who we believe God to be is the most important thing about us. In this message, Eric shares the story of our sin and separation and how we got it all wrong. Our modern day interpretation of the Father more closely resembles the GodFather than a loving father. We have believed that God's holiness demands He separate from us.
