God Is Your Heavenly Father; and You Can Speak to Him, in Prayer, as if He Were Your Earthly Father MESSAGE SUMMARY: God is your Heavenly Father and the Creator of the Universe; however, you can talk to Him as your father, and remember that He loves you. Imagine climbing up into His lap and imagine Him wrapping His arms around you – He is God your loving father. As God tells you in 2 Samuel 7:14-15: “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you.". You need to start talking to God as the best dad there could ever be. Talk to Him about your life; your concerns; and your needs. You need to ask God for His counsel, and you need to ask Him questions regarding His will for your life.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, you know how difficult it is for me to be in silence before you. A Word From The Lord ministry, with Archbishop Foley Beach, has partnered with Poor Bishop Hooper to walk us through the season of Advent using their original music and animated art. AWFTL Advent Devotional Schedule 12/01/23: In this first episode "Foreword", we begin with God's Creation of the World. However, sin comes into the world necessitating the need for "A Means of Grace and the Hope for Glory", the Christ. 12/3/23: In this episode, “Hope”, the Holy Spirit notifies the aging but unbelieving Priest, Zechariah, that his barren wife Elizabeth will give birth to John the Baptizer, who will prepare the way for God's Grace for our undeserved Salvation, through birth of His Son. 12/10/23: In this episode, “Peace”, the Virgin Mary is notified by an Angel that God, through the Holy Spirit, will bless her with the birth of The Christ, the promised Messiah; and He will be named Jesus. 12/17/23: In this episode “Joy”, Elizabeth is visited by her cousin, Mary as they share both the joy of their unanticipated pregnancies and the assume blessing of God's favor for them and the World, the Incarnate Jesus. 12/24/23: The episode, “Love”, depicts the struggles that Joseph is facing from both his love and duty to an, as yet, unmarried but pregnant Mary. Also, Joseph is coming to grips with burden and responsibility of his early-life fatherhood for Jesus, who is Father God, in a human presence, as God's Son. 12/25/23: The final episode brings it all together in Jesus' genealogy from Adam to The Christ – proving that Advent and Christmas are a great deal more than what the commercialization of Christmas often implies. We end our Advent journey with “The First Born”  - The Christ!

Adam, a first time father, looked down at his newborn son with love. Adam and his wife had made mistakes in the past and suffered greatly for it, but this child, their firstborn, was a chance to start fresh. The new family didn't have the support of friends or relatives, but they did their best, and figured it out as they went along.   When the family was blessed with another son a few years later, they were so grateful to the Lord, and excited to watch their boys grow and play together. The family of four worked hard, loved God, and they were in it together.    Sometimes, though, the sins of our past have a way of catching up with us.   When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and were banished from the Garden of Eden, they plunged the world into sin. They couldn't have known at the time just how far-reaching the consequences of this event would be for their family—that their son Cain would one day grow jealous of his brother Abel's favor in the eyes of the Lord, and commit the very first murder.   Adam, the first man, and very first human father, has much to teach today's fathers about the consequences of our actions and the absolute necessity of obeying God.   Micah 6:8 says, “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”   Lessons we can learn from Adam include:   Obedience: God wants us to freely obey Him, to trust Him, and to submit to his love. A man who follows and obeys the Lord can be a child's first example of obedience.   Integrity: Fathers with integrity know that nothing is hidden from God's sight. Even when no one is around, God sees our actions; men with integrity act accordingly.   Responsibility: Godly fathers take responsibility for their own failures and shortcomings, rather than blaming others for their mistakes. The ability to accept responsibility is not a show of weakness, but a sign of strength.   Let's pray.   Heavenly Father, Adam, the first human father, had no blueprint for fatherhood. Thank you for the wisdom and knowledge we can glean from fathers before us in your Holy Word, the Bible. Uphold fathers, Lord, and open their eyes to your love, and your good plan for their family. Give them the support they need to follow you, and to humbly obey your commands. In Jesus' name, amen.

At times it feels almost impossible, given the demands, distractions, and noise all around me. I invite you to lead me to a quiet, silent place before you — to a place where I can hear you as Elijah did. In Jesus' name, amen.     Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 123). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Resentment. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Compassion. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Today's episode features a one-of-a-kind interview with Geoff Kirby. Geoff is in the publishing business these days, and is the rare person who is openly transparent about spiritual warfare he has personally fought. No, we're not talking about casting aside negative thoughts about losing a job or girlfriend, although that's important in its own right. We're talking about actual encounters with demons, exorcisms in the name of Jesus; that sort of thing. Pretty intense stuff, right? Not something we'd prefer to talk openly about on podcasts, but Geoff realized if his story can help others, it's an injustice not to share it. The juicy stuff is inside the podcast, but suffice it to say it's the love, patience and perseverance of both Geoff's heavenly and earthly father that proved to be the pivotal influence in living a life devoted to God and raising a godly family. In this episode, you'll learn: -The impact Geoff's father had on his upbringing and into adulthood...05:47 -How an experience watching The Lion King helped Geoff process his emotions as a child...10:12 -Retreating into an unhealthy place emotionally after a major move...14:13 -A reciprocal cycle of darkness at a new school for the senior year...22:20 -Becoming aware of the spiritual darkness all around us...24:50 -Scriptural instruction on engaging in spiritual warfare...32:55 -A divine challenge to choose life or death...36:54 -The world wants your children dead: spiritually and eventually physically...41:15 -The war never stops, even after (or especially after) a specific victory is achieved...47:23 -Leaving a legacy by leading by example...53:34 -And much more! About the guest: Geoff grew up in a Christian household, with a father working with Christ-based non-profit ministries year round; despite this they were never religious as a family. After a decade of struggle, culminating in a spiritual battle for his soul, Geoff found hope and strength in Jesus. What followed was a fifteen year battle between what is right and what is easy. Running a record label, artist management, co-producing independent metal bands, and transitioning to podcast production, Christian broadcasting, graphic design, website design, & digital publishing, as well as a failed marriage and fighting to keep his second, Geoff has been through the ringer. As he approaches 40, with 3 beautiful daughters, a God-fearing wife, and a cat, Geoff spends his time using his creative skills and talents helping Christian ministries approach and surpass the next level to reach their communities for the Kingdom of God, much like his father before him. 5 Ways To Draw Closer To Your Earthly Father Even If You Don't Have a Great Relationship | Donald Kelly - 063

Father's Day is an important holiday for many reasons. While our relationship with our heavenly father is imperative, loving and serving our earthly father is just as important. In today's episode of Changing, Donald discusses how we can serve our father and build a better relationship for long-term growth with five different strategies. Learn about your past. Research your family tree and do genealogy to learn about your family's past. Cook a meal with your father. What's the cuisine or recipe your dad loves making or eating?  Create those things with him, and create a family recipe to pass down to your own kids. Talk to him. Learn about how he met your mother, what he used to do when he was younger, or memorable moments from his own life. Conversations about his interests will help you learn more about him and give him a chance to speak about his aspirations.  Plan a vacation or stay-cation: Plan a short trip together depending on your resources and relationship with your father! Consider traveling back to his hometown or a memorable time of his life so he can share another part of his life with you. Play a game. Whether in-person or remote, playing a game together will be an easy and enjoyable way to spend time together and enjoy one another's company. A final bonus tip: pray for him. Especially if you don't have the best relationship with your father, you'd be amazed at what can happen when you approach the situation with humility to the Lord. Above all, first, lead with love. Prayer, simply put, is talking to God. It is irreducibly relational. It's personal—he is the Absolute Person, and we are derivative persons, fashioned in his image. In a sense, prayer is as basic as persons relating to each other, conversing, interacting, but with this significant caveat: in this relationship, we don't chat as peers. He is Creator, and we are creatures. He is the great Lord, and we are his happy servants. Prayer, for the Christian, is not merely talking to God, but responding to the One who has initiated toward us. He has spoken first. This is not a conversation we start, but a relationship into which we've been drawn. Fathers (v.2-4; 11-13) In this text we have two kinds of fathers – a. Heavenly Father i. Perfect – “Hallowed be your name” – Worthy of Your Adoration ii. Powerful – “Your kingdom come” – Demands your submission iii. Provider – “give us each day the bread we need” iv. Pardoner of Sins – “forgive us our sin” v. Protector – “lead us not into temptation” vi. Personally present – 1. His Son to redeem us (Matt.1:21; John 1:1-14) 2. His Spirit to seal us for our inheritance b. Earthly Father (v.11) i. Providers ii. Protectors iii. Perfect not - "father among... you who are evil" To understand the implications of these, listen to this sermon.

Questions Covered: 05:10 – What is the meaning of Matthew 24:28 because it's translated differently. One says “where the carcass is the vultures will gather”. Another says “where the body is the eagles will gather”. Is it talking about the church and the saints? If so, why do some translations not seem that way? 15:30 – What is happening in the book of Tobit to Sarah's previous husband? Is God allowing the demons to kill the husband? Or is it more figurative?  16:52 – My son was saying he doesn't understand in Job why God is allowing all these things to happen to Job. He thinks it's unfair and that it's really then the work of the devil. How can I explain why God is allowing these things to happen?  21:58 – What are some resources I can use to better understand the bible?  24:12 – What is the connection between 1st Thessalonians Ch 4:14 and the assumption of Mary? It's in my rosary pamphlet so I was wondering if you could offer any other passages connected to the assumption to better meditate on it.  31:52 – How best can you read the bible and fully understand it? Are there any resources to use so that I can be sure not to just take everything literally?  39:00 – Is Joachim's (Mary's Earthly Father) name in the Bible?  41:42 – I'm having trouble interpreting the moment where Jesus is with the apostles, and they see someone is spreading the word of Jesus and they don't want to hear about it but Jesus says they're an ally. How can we say that the Catholic church is the true church while excusing the fact that people are part of other denominations?  46:16 – The Old Testament mentions some animals that we're not supposed to eat because they're “dirty”. Are we fully allowed to consume animals even though this is mentioned?  51:01 – What did Martin Luther do to alter the original bible scriptures to make them his own?  52:44 – For the virgin birth prophecy in Isaiah 7:14, is it a dual prophecy or is it only for the virgin birth?  …

The covenant of redemption, planned in eternity past between Father and Son, dawned in creation when Israel was under the boot of Roman and Herod the Great ruled with an iron fist over God's people. The incarnation of our Lord would come through some of the most unlikely means imaginable – a young carpenter named Joseph and his betrothed, Mary. In this sermon, we explore how God revealed His plan and purpose to Joseph to prepare him to be the earthly Father of Christ. Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25 Preacher: Dr. Shawn Merithew

This book is different from most books on raising children. It is a plea for the parents to truly know and walk with God – for them to love God and His Word. In the correct order, focusing first on the parents, Andrew Murray then urges parents to sincerely and consistently love their children and in all tenderness and gentleness teach them as God also teaches us. Children are a most precious gift that we receive from God, and they deserve our very best. Our faithful training will not be lost on our children; this is a promise found over and over again in the Scriptures. If our hearts are right towards God and our children, the world's influence will not impact our children. We can and must exercise faith, so our children and our children's children will be able to impact the world for Christ and inherit eternal blessings. A few of the parenting topics covered in this book: * What sin did to the family and how to redeem that which was lost. * The distinct and also shared roles of fathers and mothers. * How and why to teach children manners. * How to show children the Scriptures in a way that takes root in the heart. * How to teach with a quiet, gentle spirit, as God teaches us. * How to intercede effectively in prayer for our children.

God Is Your Heavenly Father; and You Can Speak to Him, in Prayer, as if He Were Your Earthly Father

TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Lust. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Perfect Provision. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV): Matthew 6:7-15; Colossians 1:2-3;2 Corinthians 6:18; Psalms 69a:1-12.  A WORD FROM THE LORD WEBSITE: www.AWFTL.org. REFLECTION QUOTES “Something about the name Jesus Something about the name Jesus It is the sweetest name, I know” ~“Something About the Name Jesus” by Rance Allen (1948-2020) “We deserved death, wrath, and hell forever…. Jesus drank our hell.” ~Conrad Mbewe, Zambian pastor “When we were dispersed like scattered sheep, and lost in the labyrinth of the world, Christ gathered us together again, that he might bring us back to himself.” “Holiness is not a merit by which we can attain communion with God, but a gift of Christ, which enables us to cling to him, and to follow him.” ~John Calvin (1509-1564), French theologian, pastor and reformer “The grace of God is love freely shown towards guilty sinners, contrary to their merit and indeed in defiance of their demerit. It is God showing goodness to persons who deserve only severity and had no reason to expect anything but severity…. [G]race means so little to some…, because they do not share the beliefs about God and man which it presupposes.” “Grace is free in that it is self-originated, and of proceeding from One who was free not to be gracious.” ~J.I. Packer (1926-2020), English-born theologian “It is the dogma that is the drama – not beautiful phrases, nor comforting sentiments, nor vague aspirations to loving-kindness and uplift, nor the promise of something nice after death – but the terrifying assertion that the same God who made the world lived in the world and passed through the grave and gate of death. Show that to the heathen, and they may not believe it; but at least they may realize that here is something that a man might be glad to believe.” ~Dorothy Sayers (1893-1957), English writer and poet SERMON PASSAGE Matthew 1 1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham… 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. Micah 6 8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

NRSV 12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. When he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rod such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by human beings. 15 But I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever. NIV 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 5 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’” Notice the similarities and differences in the translations presented.    What does this scripture mean to you?Has it had a different effect this reading as compared to times past? How does this scripture make you feel? Continue breathing deeply as you ponder this meaning. Meditation on scripture / bible verse meditation: I want to share a short experience I had last week. One of the assignments I have in the Navy is with the Military Funeral Honors Detail. In connection to this detail I go the the graveside of Navy veterans who have recently died. There is a playing of taps and we fold and present the American flag. Well last week I arrived early to a funeral. The funeral was at the same cemetery where my father had been buried over thirty years ago. As I approached the grave I realized that the grave of this veteran was within sight of my father’s grave. As I approached the spot, the mortuary company had already set up a speaker and some music was softly playing. As I walked closer I recognized the hymn as “Oh My Father.” In this moment I felt closer to my earthly father than I have in many years.  Today we celebrate Father’s Day in the United States. I know a good number of you are outside of the US but I find this message is very applicable to everyone.  As I reflect on the vacuum that was left by the death of this great man, I realize that each person has a unique and different experience with their earthly parents. Some people have tragic relationships with their fathers, or no relationship. It is more than coincidence that our personal history with our earthly fathers can have a dramatic influence on how we perceive our Heavenly Father. People with loving and connected relationships to their fathers seem to have an easier time understanding God the Father as A loving father. For those of us who did not grow up in the presence of a loving father, this can be somewhat harder. Regardless, we can all benefit from some focused thought on the difference between our earthly relationships and our relationship to God.  Although I think it is a natural human response to experience this connection between our earthly and heavenly parents, it is not the most accurate comparison. Since I am a father now I am aware of the deep divide between the father I want to be and who I am. Even the best fathers are imperfect and can disappoint at times, whereas God is perfect. His love for us is also perfect. Although we face nearly constant trials and opportunities for growth in this life, God loves us perfectly. It is because of this perfect love that he helps us grow by helping us overcoming our trials.  Take a few moments now and consider if you connect your feelings for your earthly father and your heavenly father. Open your heart to the idea that God is a perfect and loving eternal Father and loves you beyond what you can imagine.  Meditation of Prayer:Pray as directed by the Spirit.Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm:I invite you to sit in silence feeling being patient for your own faults and trials.  Meditate and Visualize Positive Change in Your Life:Implement the kind of change you want to see in your life.  Length, Intensity, Modality, Freshness, Conclusion:Each week.  Christianmeditationpodcast.com/contact Website ChristianMeditationPodcast.com contact. Patreon.com/Christianmeditationpodcast Final Question: How is your relationship with God the Father different compared to your relationship with your Earthly Father.  Final thought -I am older now than my Father was when he died. When I was young I could only see how I was missing out by not having a father. As I watch my children grow and enjoy them, I realize that my father was also deprived of the opportunity to be with his children. We all have our own life situations to go through and none are the same. Some of the greatest love on earth is the love that dedicated parents can feel toward their children. If you have missed out on a good relationship with your father.  If you find it difficult to connect to God due to an earthly connection. Take some time to refocus on who God is, and spend time with Him in prayer and meditation specifically regarding this issue. I know that as we continue to open our hearts up to His love, our relationship with Him as well as our earthly relationships can improve.

This week Eric Knopf continues our Daddy God series by uncovering more truth about God’s identity. From an early age, many of us unknowingly assign character attributes from our earthly father to our heavenly father. Unfortunately, not all of our fathers were good representations of God’s love. Undetected, relational insecurities and lies about our earthly fathers can manifest in our relationship with God. Knowing the truth about who God is will transform your relationship with Him. Regardless of your relationship with your earthly father, this encouraging message is one you don’t want to miss.
