Today on the Rainmaker Family Show we have none other than Eric Knopf! This guy's such a big deal - Forbes called him a top thought leader on Twitter, and he's even been named 40 Under 40 by Business Journal. He's grown some seriously successful businesses, like Webconnex, a Sacramento-based tech company that processes billions and reaches millions each month. But more importantly, he's a dad to two awesome kids who are set to change the world! In this episode, we dived into his latest book, "Raising Entrepreneurs". It's chock-full of tips and advice for parents who want to raise world changers too! Our conversation was just so fun and enlightening! Eric shared some hilarious stories from his journey, like how he convinced his wife (who comes from a family of doctors and lawyers) that he could beat the odds of nine out of 10 businesses failing. He talked about his success with Webconnex, and how he's learned that successful entrepreneurs share unique upbringings fostered by their parents. Basically, the kind of upbringing where parents aren't afraid of their kids' dreams and fully support them in all their aspirations, no matter how unconventional they might seem. We even talked about how important it is to instill a secure identity in our kids. To let them know that their value isn't tied to what they do, so that if they fail (and let's be real, failure is part of the process), they'll understand that it doesn't mean they're failures. Basically, our chat with Eric was all about how important it is to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in our kids. To teach them to be resilient, to overcome obstacles, and to move things forward. And hey, even if your kid doesn't want to start a business, there's so much value in this mindset. Even if they end up being an entrepreneurial person within another company, or what we call an 'intrapreneur', the skills and mindset they learn are invaluable.   So, grab your cup of coffee (or tea, or whatever floats your boat), kick back, and get ready for some major nuggets of wisdom in this episode! Hey everyone, Melissa here from the Family Brand Podcast. In our latest episode, I had the pleasure of talking to Eric Knoff, a lifelong entrepreneur and co-founder and co-CEO of Webconnex, a software company that powers event registration, ticketing, and fundraising for some of the biggest brands in the world. Eric is that he believes most entrepreneurs became entrepreneurs because of a transformational experience in their childhood. And as someone who had a unique and amazing upbringing that led him and his siblings to become entrepreneurs, Eric wrote a book called "Raising Entrepreneurs" to guide parents on how they can apply the same principles with their own kids. During our conversation, Eric shared how he was raised to be an entrepreneur and how his parents played a pivotal role in shaping his childhood experiences. He talked about how they fanned the flame of his dreams and interests, whether it was wanting to work at a road construction site or becoming a fighter jet pilot. And as he got older, he started his own ventures, including selling corn from the family farm at the age of 10. What we loved about Eric's story is that he believes anyone can learn entrepreneurship as an adult, but having a leg up by being raised to be an entrepreneur gives you a different perspective on the world. And that's what he hopes to impart to parents through his book – the principles and experiences that can shape their kids to become entrepreneurs or just have an entrepreneurial spirit that's valuable across all fields and industries. As someone who's always been interested in entrepreneurship and innovation, I found Eric's insights to be fascinating and inspiring. I'm sure you will too! Hit play and let us know your thoughts! What Does “Fear of the Lord” Really Mean?

Epic Life Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 17, 2016 45:12

In tonight’s sermon, Eric Knopf dives headfirst into a big topic: Fear of the Lord. The “fear of the Lord” is a widely discussed and often misused phrase in today’s church. The book of Proverbs states that the “Fear of the Lord” is the beginning of wisdom. And at the same time, Jesus frequently commands His disciples NOT to fear. When facing this apparent contradiction, we must first recognize the multiple definitions of the Greek noun phobos. According to the New Testament Greek Lexicon, phobos can mean either “fear, dread, and  terror,” or, “reverence for one’s husband.” These definitions are not interchangeable, and they require a contextual distinction for accurate understanding. Sadly, while the church does focus on the Grace of God to bring people in, they often use the “Fear of the Lord—with an emphasis on the terror based definition—as a sin prevention and behavior grooming tool. In doing so, the church unintentionally disciples followers into a faith damaging, fear-based relationship with their loving Father. In the words of the Eric’s sermon, “it’s impossible to authentically love someone you also fear.” Featured scripture: “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”  -- 1st John 4:18
