While Bill is on a research and writing sabbatical for the next 4 weeks we decided it's important to revisit the horrors we laid out in our Project 2025 podcast series, Trump's Project 2025: Up Close and Personal – and have the series author, pro-democracy advocate and the author of nine books, David Pepper, tie them to what's actually happened so far. In Chapter 5, Part one, the fictional characters Congresswoman Louise Getty (a stand-in for Liz Cheney) and Senator Wade Stiller, former rivals, meet at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. They reflect on their pasts and express concern over a hostile political climate under Trump's second term, feeling fear and paranoia about being surveilled and targeted by the government. Their conversation reveals a sense of vulnerability as they confront the reality that many of their colleagues have abandoned principles out of fear. Louise recalls the intense political maneuvering and betrayals leading up to and following the January 6 insurrection. In Part Two, Woody Nuxhall, the newly appointed head of the Treason and Political Crime Section of the DOJ, oversees his zealous young team of prosecutors, eager to pursue investigations and vendettas against political enemies. The group discusses tactics to surveil and undermine former colleagues and opposition figures, planning a strategy fueled by partisan loyalty and vengeance, while embracing a radical transformation of the DOJ's role in politics. While these stories are fictional, they are based on Trump's own words and Project 2025.We'd like to thank the artists who contributed their time to make this episode:Richard Schiff and Morgan Fairchild who read the chapters and Jason Kravits, Tony Michaels, Jim Hilmes, Joe Walsh and Omid Abtahi contributed character voices. While Bill is on a research and writing sabbatical for the next 5 weeks we decided it's important to revisit the horrors we laid out in our Project 2025 podcast series, Trump's Project 2025: Up Close and Personal – and tie them to what's actually happened so far. In Chapter 3, the fact-based fictional story of Dr. Yvette Hardman and JJ Newsom depicts the dismantling of expertise and science-based decision making in the federal government under a second Trump administration guided by Project 2025. Dr. Hardman, an experienced infectious disease expert, is removed from her position at the CDC and replaced by JJ Newsom, an unqualified political loyalist with no relevant experience. This reflects Project 2025's plan to fill government positions with partisan appointees rather than nonpartisan experts. The new administration, in this fictional account and now in real life, rejects science-based pandemic response recommendations from Dr. Hardman instead prioritizing political and economic considerations over public health. This aligns with Project 2025's directives to limit the CDC's ability to make public health recommendations. The story highlights the Trump administration's hostility towards science and the displacement of experienced civil servants. Overall, the narrative illustrates how a second Trump term guided by Project 2025 would undermine the role of expertise and independent scientific advice in government, with potentially disastrous consequences for public health and safety. We'd like to thank all the artists who volunteered their time to make this episode: CCH Pounder, Richard Schiff and Jason Kravits who read the chapters and Omid Abtahi, Laurie Burke and Joanne Carducci who did the voices. To start, special guest host Stuart Stevens weighs in on day one of the confirmation hearings and the abomination that is the slate of nominees Trump has put forward for some of the most important positions in the Executive Branch. In Chapter 3, the fact-based fictional story of Dr. Yvette Hardman and JJ Newsom depicts the dismantling of expertise and science-based decision making in the federal government under a possible second Trump administration guided by Project 2025. Dr. Hardman, an experienced infectious disease expert, is removed from her position at the CDC and replaced by JJ Newsom, an unqualified political loyalist with no relevant experience. This aligns with Project 2025's directives to limit the CDC's ability to make public health recommendations. The story highlights the Trump administration's hostility towards science and the displacement of experienced civil servants, which Project 2025 seeks to accelerate through measures like the "Schedule F" executive order to reclassify and fire federal employees. Overall, the narrative illustrates how a second Trump term guided by Project 2025 would undermine the role of expertise and independent scientific advice in government, with potentially disastrous consequences for public health and safety. Chapter Two of Trump's Project 2025: Up Close and Personal depicts the personal story of Eve, a nurse struggling with infertility, whose treatment is threatened by the new president's executive order banning certain fertility treatments. The episode explores how the president's policies would impact everyday Americans, particularly women and families, by interfering with reproductive freedom and the right to self-determination. The author of the serialized novel “2025,” upon which this podcast series is based, David Pepper, highlights how the fictional story is directly based on the policies outlined in the Trump's Project 2025 and the president's own words, underscoring the very real and devastating consequences a second Trump term and the implementation of Project 2025 could have. Our hearts go out to the people impacted by Hurricane Helene and their anti-government governments, who will be replaced one day with public servants, which is what this conversation is about. To help those who are impacted, there's a resource on where to donate in the show notes. (Do not choose the Red Cross, for reasons explained in the show notes). Thank you. Thank you to everyone who joined our live taping with Laboratories of Autocracy and Saving Democracy author David Pepper, who is not just a democracy warrior, but also the mastermind behind the new podcast series Project 2025: Up Close and Personal. Picture this: short, terrifying vignettes with a cast so star-studded, you'd think it was Hollywood's last gasp before a fascist takeover—J. Smith-Cameron, Fisher Stevens, Richard Schiff, Morgan Fairchild, Omid Abtahi, and many more! We previewed "Chapter 2" of the series–it's the audio equivalent of a cold sweat. You can listen to it [here]. Democrats have been playing defense for so long, they've forgotten what offense looks like. "There are two million uncontested races out there," David pointed out, which is about as comforting as knowing JD Vance's particular brand of weird fills the halls of power in Republican hostage states. David also shared the story of how he got a call out of the blue from Vice President Kamala Harris last spring, to discuss ways to fight back. Thanks to the audience Q&A, he shared who he thinks should be her Attorney General—should she win, of course. Want to make that dream a reality? Join the fight! Gaslit Nation hosts phonebanks with Sister District every Wednesday at 6 p.m. RSVP [here]. Join our next live taping on Tuesday October 1st at 12pm ET with Greg Palast, discussing his new film Vigilantes Inc: America's New Vote Suppression Hitmen. Bring your questions on all the ways Russian-backed MAGA is trying to steal the election, their plans if they lose, and ways to protect the vote. Come As You Are Weekly Political Salons! Join us every Monday at 4 PM ET via Zoom! Let's share frustrations, ask burning questions, seek support, and help shape Gaslit Nation. Everyone's voice matters—whether you're a political junkie or just finding your voice, you belong here! Recordings available exclusively on Patreon.

The ways in which the hosts like and dislike the evolution of Star Wars, the franchise's dubious stance on droid slavery (a topic that the hosts had previously covered in last year's podcast on Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi), a mini-discussion on The Book of Boba Fett, and Disney's decision to scrap the Star Wars Legends comprise just a few of this episode's talking points. Created by Jon Favreau, Season 3 of The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Brendan Wayne, Lateef Crowder, Katee Sackhoff, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Katy M. Iranian-American actor, Omid Abtahi (The Mandalorian, American Gods, Argo, Better Call Saul) talks about voicing Hawkman in Justice Society: World War II available on VOD today, April 27 and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray May 11, 2021. Abtahi has performed in the World of Warcraft and Call of Duty videogame franchises and now makes his DC Universe Movies debut as Hawkman in Justice Society: World War II. The Iranian born, Orange County native and Cal State University, Fullerton alumni and I joke around about the two biggest sports in Iran, which are soccer and wrestling, how we probably crossed paths at various Persian parties in our youth throughout Orange County, especially in Irvine and of course what it means to bring life to a Middle Eastern character like Hawkman, who is of Egyptian origins. We also plan on getting some kebabs, tea and hookah once we can gather together again as California heads into the yellow tier. Official Synopsis: Justice Society: World War II finds modern-day Barry Allen – prior to the formation of the Justice League – discovering he can run even faster than he imagined, and that milestone results in his first encounter with the Speed Force. The Flash is promptly launched into the midst of a raging battle – primarily between Nazis and a team of Golden Age DC Super Heroes known as The Justice Society of America. Led by Wonder Woman, the group includes Hourman, Black Canary, Hawkman, Steve Trevor and the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick. The Flash quickly volunteers to assist his fellow heroes in tipping the scales of war in their favor, while the team tries to figure out how to send him home. But it won’t be easy as complications and emotions run deep in this time-skipping World War II thriller. Follow Omid Abtahi on Twitter @AbtahiOmid and on Instagram @omidabtahi. Justice Society: World War II is available on VOD today, April 27 and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray May 11, 2021.

This week TV addicts Schmee and Riker review the pilot of The Mandalorian, "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" (Disney+). We discuss how well it did in defining the genre/conventions of the show, introducing its characters, how well it informed the series plot, and how well it hooked us to watch more! The long wait is over! After a pandemic and behind-the-scenes battles delayed production, "American Gods" returns for Season 3 on January 10. The King Bee and Gene Lyons are back with a look at what's happened since Season 2, who's coming back, and multiple ways to pronounce "Chic Eglee." The Shat Crew also introduces listeners to some new characters, and cautions against ever watching "Marvel's Inhumans." Season 3 Overview: The third season of American Gods, based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name, premiered on Starz on January 10, 2021, and will consist of ten episodes. Charles H. Eglee adapted the third season, serving as the showrunner after the departure of second-season showrunner Jesse Alexander and original series creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green after the first season. The season was officially greenlit in March 2019 and production began in October 2019. The season stars Ricky Whittle, Emily Browning, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley, Omid Abtahi, and Ian McShane, who all return from the previous season, while Ashley Reyes joins the main cast. Mark Hamill has spent one week filming for Star Wars: Episode IX, but the Jedi Master has confirmed that most of his parts for the film are still to come. We've heard many rewrites (that's not a bad thing) are happening, could we be getting more Luke than initially planned? Flashbacks and other newly introduced devices in Star Wars open up the possibilities. We also talk about The Mandalorian cast, and the fact that cast member Omid Abtahi voiced Amis in The Clone Wars, could the actor be returning as the Mandalorian cadet responsible for Satine's capture and death? Boys of Abu Ghraib udkom på dansk blu-ray fra Another World Entertainment i februar. Hør mere om filmen i podcasten og læs om blu-rayen på bloggen.

Time permitting, we spend the remainder of the show offering up opinions on the final Catching Fire poster, the new Entertainment Weekly covers, and all of the new stills released over the past couple of weeks. We'd love to know your thoughts on any or all of these topics, so if you'd like to share, please leave a comment over on our website!
