Et il y a aussi lʹabsence dʹamour, sa fin, que ce soit par la mort ou par trop dʹhabitudes. Film choral, Love Actually a le mérite de faire rêver, sourire, rire, ou pleurer, tout à la fois. Et ça plait. Évidemment, avec un casting pareil. Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, Laura Linney, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Rowan Atkinson et Andrew Lincoln, le film accueille la fine fleur du cinéma britannique et américain. Mais les bonnes actrices et les bons acteurs ne font pas tout. Bien reçu à sa sortie, le film se crée, par la force des diffusions et rediffusions, un groupe de ferveurs admirateurs et admiratrices. Cʹest un film familial qui regroupe tout le monde devant lʹécran et que lʹon montre avec plaisir à ses enfants et ses petits-enfants. Matt and Luke are back aboard their TV Time Machine to March of 2026. BBC Two launches the innovative and brilliantly funny The Dave Gorman Collection, which sees a then unknown new comic Dave Gorman, set out to meet as many people with his name as he can. Presented as a slide show presentation, Gorman's journey is a lot of fun and fresh.  Next, off the back of the first Big Brother, Channel 4 and the BBC join forces for a Celebrity edition of the reality show which only ran for 8 days and was structured strangely. Half-hour episodes and quick nominations and evictions. The main thing the show is remembered for is Vanessa Feltz, who had a bit of a breakdown when she was nominated for eviction. But, actually, the more surprising takeaway from the show is how being in the house affected comedian and eventual winner Jack Dee. Next, having finished The Fast Show, Paul Whitehouse brings us BBC comedy Happiness. The dark comedy, is an odd pitch: A man who voices a popular children's character is lost when his wife is run over by an ice cream truck. It's dark and absurd topic, but there's pathos in there and some really familiar faces giving their first performances. Lastly, Channel 4, launches raunchy and risque comedy drama Teachers with a star turn from Andrew Lincoln. It's a show where the teachers are just as badly behaved and desperately to be liked as the teenagers they are teaching. It's vibrant, fast-paced and immediately aware of it is.  Finally, Matt challenges Luke to name as many chart hits from March 2001 as he can.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS! I'm your host, Gino Caputi and I'm joined by my kid sis the English Literature Major and Wuthering Heights MEGA FAN, Roseanne Caputi and  we will endeavor to find the truest and best filmed adaptation of the novel, starting from the 1939 William Wyler directed Laurence Olivier Merle Oberon venture  all the way up to the current 2026 Emerald Fennel reimagining starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.  For the first time on this podcast we're breaking with my iron clad rules and tradition and including a version produced for television.  So we have the aforementioned 1939 production directed by William Wyler and starring Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff, Merle Oberon as Catherine and David Niven as Edgar LintonNow I watched this one but Roseanne didn't, big chicken that she is, the 1958 Dupont Show of the Week Presentation starring Richard Burton as Heathcliff, Rosemary Harris as Catherine and Denholm Eliot as Edgar Linton  Then we jump ahead 12 years to a earthy yet still mod 1970 adaptation directed by Robert Fuest and starring Anna Calder-Marshall, Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff and Ian Ogilvy as Linton 22 years later we get the somewhat perfunctory production directed by Peter Kominsky and starring Juliet Binoche as Catherine, Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff and Simon Shepherd as Edgar Linton Then 7 years after that we get the stellar TV version directed by Coky Giedroyc and starring Tom Hardy as Heathcliff, Charlotte Riley as Catherine and Andrew Lincoln as Edgar Linton 2 years after that there's the peculiar movie version directed by Andrea Arnold where the focus is on the younger versions of the characters starring Solomon Glave and James Howson as Heathcliff, Shannon Beer and Kaya Scodelario as Catherine and James Northcote as Edgar Linton And that brings up to 2026's Emerald Fennal version starring Margot Robbie as Catherine, Jacob Elordy as Heathcliff and Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton. Before we dive in, the synopsis: Young brooding Heathcliffe, a gypsy adopted by Thomas Earnshaw-- patriarch of Wuthering Heights, falls in love with his wild-eyed and passionate adoptive sister Catherine. Though Catherine and Heathcliff are soulmates, Catherine in turn marries foppish wealthy Edgar Linton. Coldwater (available on Paramount+ in the U.S.) is a lot of fun though — it's funny, thought-provoking, and it's a good old-fashioned thriller to sink your teeth into. I wouldn't necessarily give it my highest recommendation, but honestly, that fact that Lucy and I had so much fun talking about it made me like it even more. This week on International Feature, we took a trip back to one of the most talked-about holiday rom-coms of all time: Love Actually. Often held up as a seasonal classic, the film has remained a staple of Christmas viewing for years — but for us, revisiting it raised a lot more questions than warm fuzzy feelings. We dug into why the movie's reputation doesn't match our experience, and how some of its most celebrated moments have aged… poorly.• Only really connecting with one or two of the relationship dynamics presented • Our genuine disbelief that this is considered a romantic comedy “classic” • The blatant fatphobia and the way several characters are mistreated for laughs • The uncomfortable and inappropriate dynamic between Keira Knightley and Andrew Lincoln's character • Too many characters, too little depth, and barely enough time spent with any storyline • The randomness of certain casting choices — and how Martin Freeman ends up in movies like this • Why ensemble rom-coms just don't work for us when the emotional payoff isn't thereA holiday staple for some… but for us, this was more frustrating than festiveLetterbox'd Synopsis: Eight very different couples deal with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London.

Today, we're celebrating a special milestone—the 10th anniversary of The Babadook— with director, Jennifer Kent. The Babadook was Jennifer's feature debut and has since become an iconic classic and one of the GOATs of horror.Jennifer has been recognized for her ability to craft horror with heart, making audiences not only tremble but also reflect deeply on the emotional struggles at the core of her stories. Her follow-up film, The Nightingale, is a brutal yet emotionally resonant tale of revenge set in 1820s Tasmania. And Jennifer also wrote and directed The Murmuring for Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities anthology series on Netflix. The episode starred The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln and reunited her with Babadook star Essie Davis.The Babadook is back in theaters starting today, through Sunday, September 22nd so be sure to check your local listings and catch it on the big screen!This episode feels like years of film school in 45 minutes as Jen offers a wealth of insights and lessons and I can honestly say, this is my favorite interview I've ever done of the Nick Taylor Horror Show and definitely the most insightful.We dive into Jennifer's journey, from her early career as an actress to transitioning into filmmaking under the mentorship of Lars von Trier as well as her creative process, how she approaches working with actors, and how she brings terrifying visions to life through practical effects, meticulous sets and sound design. We'll also discuss what makes The Babadook so enduring, the power of horror as a storytelling tool and much much more.There are three big topics we did not cover in this interview because Jennifer has spoken at length about them in previous interviews so I will cover these really quickly up front.Number One: The Babadook as a Queer Icon. A Netflix glitch mistakenly categorized The Babadook under the LGBTQ+ genre causing an outpouring of memes parodying the error. But, what began as an online joke morphed into something meaningful for the queer community as powerful metaphors emerged. In The Babadook, the monster symbolizes repressed emotions and trauma and many in the queer community saw parallels between this and the experience of repressing one's identity. The film's message of embracing and living with one's inner "monster" instead of destroying it is also seen as a metaphor for self-acceptance. Furthermore, The Babadook can be seen as a "destroyer of families," which parallels and parodies certain rhetoric about queerness being a threat to traditional family structures and in one scene the Babadook literally emerges from a closet.Number Two, the possibility of a Babadook Sequel: Jennifer has been very clear that there will never ever be a sequel to The Babadook. She made sure to retain the rights to any sequels and said she will never allow one to be made. To her, The Babadook is a film that stands alone, and a sequel would destroy its integrity.Number Three: Did Amelia Write the Babadook book?: This topic has been speculated by fans and even raised on The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs. It's revealed that Amelia used to write children's books, so it would make sense that she created the Babadook book as a form of coping with her trauma. Jennifer has said that this was intended but never said outright which allows for multiple interpretations. Sam Bloom is a world champion adaptive surfer, a competitive kayak racer, a public speaker, world traveler, and a wife and a mother to three boys.
