If you are a Christian, God has personally picked out gifts for you—we call them “the gifts of the Spirit.” And these are gifts you'll want to put to use! Notes Whatever gift God gives us is the right gift.  “Do not neglect the gift that is in you” (1 Timothy 4:14). The church exists for the exaltation of God, the edification of the saints, and the evangelization of the world (upward, inward, outward).  A unified church is a powerful witness to a divided world. 1. You are not all that and a bag of chips. 2. Whatever gift you have has been given to you by God. 3. We all have a part to play in the church with our spiritual gifts.    4. The gift of serving. 5. Others are called to teach the Word of God.  6. God has given some the gift of encouraging others! If we really love one another, we must speak the truth in love. Deposit a compliment before you make the withdrawal of a criticism.  We need teachers, and we need exhorters. 7. The gift of giving. “If it is giving, give generously” (Romans 12:8). 8. The gift of showing kindness and mercy.  We need to take some bold steps of faith and find and use our gifts!  Everyone has a role to play. You are never too small for God to use; only too big. The church is family, and you have a seat at the table. There is a place in God's family for you! God loves you, appreciates you, and notices you. God is not mad at you; God is mad about you!  As “connected” as we are through technology, we still experience loneliness and a need to belong. And there's a lot we can learn from a biblical concept called koinonia. Notes We need God, and we need each other. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” —Proverbs 27:17 The church is a place to find relationships, encouragement, and perspective.  1. They were a learning church. It's not only strong preaching we need, but also strong listening.  2. They were a loving church.  The Lord likes it when we talk about Him to other people.  The Lord listened and heard means “to prick the ear,” “to bend down,” “to not miss a single word.” The stronger your vertical fellowship is the stronger your horizontal fellowship will be. The first century church looked out for each other. You have been blessed to be a blessing to others. The early church met house to house. 3. They were a worshiping church. From Genesis to Revelation, our faith is one of worship. There are times we don't feel like worshipping. If a nonbeliever were to watch your everyday life, would they want to know more about Jesus or less?  When we come to God in prayer and worship, we see things correctly. “The sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which the child of God rests his head at night, giving perfect peace.” —Charles Spurgeon 4. The early church in Acts is a model for us today—particularly in evangelizing the world. In this Sunday message, Pastor Greg Laurie looks at the inaugural message of the early church and reveals their secret to success. The Holy Spirit wants to empower us and fill us again and again.  Nonbelievers cannot understand the work of the Holy Spirit. They were unified.  When the believers were persecuted for preaching the gospel and told to stop, they prayed for even more boldness to do so (Acts 4:31).  If we can't say “this is that which is spoken of,” we should not seek it or practice it. If it's not in the Word, it's not of the Lord.  When sharing your faith, get to know the person you are speaking to.  People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. There is distinct power in the simple message of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The Holy Spirit will do His part; make sure you do yours. Campbell Morgan The book of Acts is simply a picture of normal Christianity. The book of Acts is a record of the acts of the Holy Spirit, covering a 30-year period from AD 33–63. The book of Acts was authored by the Holy Spirit, speaking through Dr. Luke. The name Theophilus means, “Lover of God.”  1. Before you can change the world, you must first be changed.  The disciple's greatness was not because of who they were as individuals; it was because God put His hand on them. Jesus did not call these men who became apostles because they were great; they were great because Jesus called them! The word used for appeared refers to the eyeball. Before they could change the world, Jesus needed to change them. Paul said, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). 2. The church had a job to do, and so do we!   “You will be My witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere!” (Acts 1:8). Jesus is not late in returning; there is something He wants from us.  3. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to do what God calls us to do.  The word power comes from the Greek word “Dunamis.” It's never too late to be used by God. Give your worries to Jesus Christ. God is in control of your life. Have an attitude of gratitude. Job thanked God, despite his difficulties. Live with honesty and integrity. Character over charisma. “If I take care of my character, God will take care of my reputation.” —D. L. Moody Marry the right person. Find someone Godlier than you. Wedlock should be a padlock. Eight words you should say to your spouse every day: “I'm sorry,” “please forgive me,” and “I love you.”  Tell those you love that you love them. Keep short accounts and forgive.
